The Story behind this performance is That He was the Headliner for the Tami show but got bumped in Order for The new Young hot British Group ( Rollin Stones) so he complied and show his out on the show the left the stage with Mick Jagger and Keith Richards looking in disbelief and he said to them "Welcome To America"
The Rolling Stones were on the show and were scheduled to follow him as the closing act! They were backstage when he came off. As he passed them he said "Welcome to America boys!" They didn't want to follow him because he burned the stage down! 😂😂😂😂😂

Legend has it that James Brown resented that the producers considered the Rolling Stones a larger act than his. So JB went out to prove who was Number One. Actually remember people in the Carver Theater going crazy!! Everyone thought James was the final act and so we left...Never realizing that the Stones performed next.

You definately mentioning all the greats....they all were masterful dancers....the Nicholas brothers performed one of the greatest dance routines ever filmed and so did a teenage Sammy Davis Jr along with his father and uncle called the Will Mastin Trio....i think both of those dance scenes were done in the 1930s.....lol....almost a 100 yrs ago....and those 2 dance routines are MIND BLOWING.....i love looking back at our past....blacks have been so mistreated and dehumanized that i love seeing the positivity and the greatness of our past.....dont know if JJ will react to those you mentioned because i dont think thats the type of stuff he reacts to but he should on his own time check all of those you mention and many others

I have almost all the James Brown albums with old instrumental vinyls as well, and Mind Power in the JB Paybak album from 73 has an incredible groove with wah wah guitar.
There is a famous story about James Brown being upset that the Rolling Stones were being given the top billing on this show and him going out and tearing it up and the Stones not sure how they follow his Electric performance. Dont remember all the details, maybe someone else will fill it in.
The immortal TAMI show was filmed in England and featured a legendary lineup of pop stars. It was a big deal for black American acts to go over there and when they did they went over and killed it. The British LOVED Black American music. Always have.

Hardest working man in show bizness!! All the kids, regardless of race, loved him and knew they were seeing The Godfather of Soul! I used to love listening to his live recordings when his hype man Danny Ray would be introducing him, with all his various nicknames, and calling out all his hit records, etc. It was like a show in itself LOL
The TAMI Show was a two-night Rock music festival that took place in Santa Monica, California in 1964. The music festival was aired on closed-circuit pay television, and was made into a concert film. It was the greatest gathering of Rock music stars until Woodstock in 1969. Some of the acts that performed there were Chuck Berry, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson And The Miracles, The Supremes, Leslie Gore, The Beach Boys, James Brown And The Famous Flames, and The Rolling Stones.

James Brown: so cold famous groups (Stones & maybe Elvis?) were terrified to share the same venue or a billing w Brown bc those artists knew Brown's greatness would dwarf them 😂. Find the whole series of TAMI performances. Browns' appearance was the best-eveŕ episode of the TAMI Show Concert Series. There is a lone Diana Ross(?) song from TAMI (and ofc a Rolling Stones appearance - which I'm not in to).
From that same show, he came out on "Outta Sight"! He and the Flames tore that one up! The James Brown swagger was crazy on this one! His whole set was incindiary!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
You need to watch his entire act on the T.A.M.I. show. This is the third and last of three songs he did. I saw him live several times during this time period when I was in my early twenties. It totally blew my mind.
This is 1964....i remember requesting this concert when i first subscribed to your channel months ago....however i wish you had played his entire concert performance which is like 17 min long to see his full impact T.A.M.I show was a live movie concert that featured the top acts at that time including Smokey Robinson & Miracles, Supremes, Marvin Gaye and many others James Brown went on next to last.....Rolling Stones led by Mick Jagger was the closing act and one of the biggest acts at that time....after Mick saw James Brown's performance he got sick to his stomach and said how are we gonna follow this.....btw....James Brown's T.A.M.I performance is listed as one of the greatest live performances EVER (please play the full 17 min performance so you can see how great he was)......GREAT REACTION
I actually have the DVD to the T.A.M.I. Show. James Brown was the next to last act to perform. The headlining act was the Rolling Stones. Mick Jagger was on the side watching James perform and didn't want to go out afterwards because he was thinking there was no way they could top that.
1st off sir--------This is " JAMES BROWN & THE FAMOUS FLAMES " --------THEY, THE FLAMES, HAD TO LEARN EVERY MOVE JB WAS DOING, OR ABOUT TO DO. -----------2nd : he was supposed to be headlining the now Legendary TAMI Show, 9/9 & 9/10, 1964, at the old Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, as the concert was shown in movie theaters, all over the country, & Britain,. Japan, & Germany.; that is, until The Rolling Stones demanded to go on last, or else they would not perform at all. Steve Binder was placed in an impossible position, being the creator & producer. ------this was JB's final song ; he had done " OUTTA SIGHT------PRISONER OF LOVE, & PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE." -------Edited, they only show the audience, young WHITE GIRLS a couple times. That's because the reaction to this man was so extreme , it had to be edited carefully. The white guys were either just dumbstruck, or full of fear & hate. The girls were either repulsed, or having their very 1st orgasm's ! it was that extreme, as you can imagine in '64. You can always tell about black male performers by the hair. prior to '67, 98% had processed hair. By '67, it was time--------thankfully------to show pride, & go natural. I so recall seeing Angela Davis with that incredible Afro ! The Tami show is mentioned in a song by The Police called, "When the World is Running Down" - a great groove by a truly great band who also were influenced by JB. Check it out.
James Brown is equal to Michael and Prince,I dont care what anyone says,God he is talented,He Produced his own stuff,he play Instruments(Piano,Keyboards,Drums),He he was of course a hell of a dancer/Entertainer,Michael,Prince And James Brown are the 3 most talented people ever in history.
Prince (and a lot of others) also liked kick'n the mike stand and catching and dancing with it; which James made famous. Not seen here. Notice his pants at the knees are worn when this starts. James also made historic music in addition to being a singular phenomenal performer. You can look up footage of Michael Jackson at 8 years old do'n the James Brown. You can also look a clip with JB, Prince and Michael on the same stage (sort of). Mike's on stage with JB and tells him to call Prince up. I won't tell you what happened. It's a strange, wonderful thing to see.
James Brown in a nutshell. Not merely the Godfather of Soul, and a big influence on R&B artists after him from Michael Jackson to Sly Stone to Prince, but the seminal sound of Hip-Hop. But understand, James stole some of his stage act from Jackie Wilson. He did add much of his own stuff however.

The audience was made up of students from various L.A. high schools. When many white parents heard that there were black men in the show , some parents went to the auditorium and took their daughters home . Pity , looks like they missed a really great show.
@@tonytune4342 well here I am in Central Fla. & my parents dropped me & my younger brother off at the Motortown Revue in 1963 when we were under Jim Crow Laws, so I find it hard to believe that in Los Angeles in 1964 that white parents would act like that.
