mamamoo is known as a vocal powerhouse in the kpop industry, they’re indeed very talented and unique. anyway, excited for your future reactions!! (especially blackpink)

If you're interested in more of their vocals,i recommend their Killing Voice video. Also Solar,the one doing the poll dance,learned it for Egotistic and since then she does it on some of their stages. Also Moonbyul,the one in the second MV with silver long hair,is friend with Jin from BTS (they both were born in 1992). They don't do things the usual way;Hwasa is always hated by some korean people because she's more tan and considered more curvy compared to other idols. She was called ugly when she auditioned in the past but decided to not fall into those beauty stereotypes and be her owns

Members: - Solar (doing the pole dance in Egotistic and the one with pink and black hair in Hip) : Leader,Vocalist,born in 1991. She has her own youtube channel where she does challenges,covers,etc. - Moonbyul (blond short hair in Egotistic and long silver hair in Hip) : Rapper and Dancer,born in 1992. She originally auditioned to be a vocalist but became a rapper (she still sings as you can hear in Egotistic),she's one of the most credited female idol (she usually writes her own raps) - Wheein (the one in the car in Egotistic and dark blue hair in Hip) : Vocalist and dancer,born in 1995. Her and Hwasa have been friends since middle school and have friendship tattoos - Hwasa (the one with long black hair in Egotistic and short hair in Hip) : Vocalist,Rapper and youngest,born in 1995. I think she's the most famous of the groups because of her amazing charisma on stage and also her solo songs. All of them have solo albums so you can see their different colors compared to when they're in the group.

Welcome to the wild, wacky, wonderful world of kpop's vocal queens. Egotistic and Hip aren't meant to be vocal showcases but if you listen to more Mamamoo you'll soon hear why they're considered to be the vocal gold standard among girl groups. I'll respond to your questions and comments first. I think of kpop as the lawless wild west of pop music where anything goes. Mixing elements of different genres and eras is common so in Egotistic they go from the flamenco guitar intro into a reggaeton based song with a bridge that uses percussion samples that sound Indian or Middle Eastern. Mamamoo has an extremely diverse discography ranging from jazz, 60's soul, contemporary r&b and hip hop to bossa nova, ballads, latin pop, dance tracks and more. People say they can sing anything and Koreans summed up their feelings about the group by coining the slang catch phrase BeLisMaMoo: Believe and Listen to Mamamoo. That was a jaguar in Egotistic. You were on the wrong track with Money Heist and Blackpink - Hip had nothing to do with either. I'll explain some things about both songs later. Members in age order from oldest to youngest with their two primary responsibilities in the group and one of her characters in Hip: Solar - Leader, singer. Boxer. Moonbyul - Rapper, performance. Aka Moonstar because byul means star. Video director. Wheein - Singer, performance. Performance is their term for dance & staging. Environmental protester. Hwasa - Singer, rapper. President. Mamamoo doesn't really have assigned positions other than Solar as the leader and Moonbyul as the main rapper but those are the roles they mention when they introduce themselves. They're a 4X4 team of all stars, all rounders and best friends. They all sing, rap and dance well and they're involved in all creative aspects of their career including songwriting, choreography and styling. Every member has a successful solo career as well and Solar & Moonbyul release music as a subunit duo called Mamamoo+. More info on these songs: Egotistic was title track #2 in Mamamoo's landmark 4 album series called 4 Season 4 Color. Each album had a theme season and color and included a self-composed solo song by one of the members. Each title track explored a stage of love in a relationship cycle from Attraction to Passion to Heartbreak to Unattached. There's a lot more to it than that but those are the basic concepts. 4 Season 4 Color is the most complex, ambitious project ever done by a girl group. Egotistic was the Summer/Red/Passion song. In the MV each member expresses her own take on Red and Passion via her clothing, props and actions in the context of a breakup song where they're telling the guy to take a hike. So to Hwasa Red & Passion signify wild, fierce and uninhibited via the jaguar and bathtub scenes while Wheein is a hot-tempered, tattooed, badass bitch on wheels who wants to burn his guitar playing ass and dance in the flames. :) Another way to interpret it is that the members represent four stages in leaving an egotistic jerk: Anger (Moonbyul tosses chair), Defiance (Hwasa stares down the jaguar), Revenge (Wheein burns his guitar in effigy), and Liberation (Solar flies on the pole). Or both, which is my opinion. Hip is a combo of a diss track mocking their haters as people who spit in their own faces with a message song that re-defines Hip to mean being true to yourself and doing your own thing rather than the usual slang meaning of cool or trendy. MMM is one of the biggest shit magnets in kpop because they've never fit into kpop's rigid standards regarding beauty, fashion, gender, sexuality or polite behavior by proper young ladies. The lyrics were co-written by Hwasa, who is often the target of malicious comments regarding her looks and wardrobe, and the song refers to several incidents where she was attacked for what she wore when going to the airport. The universes at end of the MV are a clue about the characters they played. The first universe is Mamamoo as themselves. In the three alternate universes they play various women who are unusual in one way or another, the point being that everyone deserves respect regardless of their choice of career, lifestyle, fashion or sexuality. The set for the dance scene with all the writing on the walls is a nod to American conceptual artist Barbara Kruger, whose work deals with the social construction and perception of gender and identity. I think when Solar was playing the leader of a glam band her 50/50 split look and the drag musicians were meant to show that things like identity, gender and sexuality are fluid rather than fixed boxes we inhabit. As the saying goes, Hip is intended to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. Hip is Mamamoo's biggest hit to date but I'm with Roger - I prefer Egotistic. 😂

100% killing voice, must react. Goosebumps, and it shows their style really well. Mamamoo are amazing. They’re a bit ‘controversial’ because they set their own standards…so they actually get a lot of hate. But antis can’t say anything bad about their talent 😏 And you may as well react to Hwasa’s new song, it’ll be her first one at a new label! Mamamoo are still together, just focusing on solo careers atm. From what I understand they do still plan on working together in the future, no one has left the group, wheein and Hwasa just moved to different labels when their contracts expired.

Mamamoooooo. My fave girl group atm (New Jeans might be another one). I relate to them and their music/lyrics the most. They have the best vocals imo ("Where are we now", "I miss you", "Decalcomanie", etc). And seeing them perform live is best (check out their live performances on youtube channels: It's Live and Dingo)! I saw them a couple of months ago and I got front row so it was amaaaazzzinngggg. "Starry Night" and "Wind Flower" are some of my other faves. And they have great solo stuff too (Hwasa - "LMM" and "Maria", Solar - "HONEY" and "Spit it Out", Whee In - "Watercolor" and "Make Me Happy", Moonbyul - "LUNATIC" and "Eclipse"). Hwasa just released a new song today called "I Love My Body". I also recommend their intro videos done by Purple Hawke (reuploaded by Moofin). Just for a bit on who each of them are. It's a bit old, but I still think it gives some good info.

Welcome down the rabbit hole. Mamamoo is probably the most talented vocal group in kpop and I do not say that as a diss to any other group. There are a huge number of extremely talented men and women in the kpop world, but Mamamoo is just a cut above. They are complete all arounders. Many groups just swoon when Mamamoo is there because of their star power and very kind demeanors. They do humor just as well as serious songs and they always sing live. They tried lip syncing once and failed quite miserably. Start with the guides. There are 2 very good ones out there. Then start with Mr. Ambiguous(debut). Enjoy the ride. The laughs are amazing. The vocals are other worldly. Oh, and check out their Immortal Song 2 performances. Those put Mamamoo on the map in Korea to a much wider audience.

A lot of songs are about relationships yes haha If I remember right, they made HIP after they caught headlines for their fashion “controversy” when their underwear was showing at the airport (think comfy clothes like boxers showing out of shorts… but for some reason it’s wrong when a person with hips does it, right?) so they basically made a song to be like “idc think what you want and take your pictures of me, if I do it it’s hip”

I highly recommend checking out one of the guides to Mamamoo if you’re interested in getting to know the group. “Introducing Mamamoo” made by Purple Hawk has some absolutely incredible editing and is super fun to watch. There are 2 parts with 2 members covered in each. There is another more up to date guide as of 2022 by MooYT that has a part 1 devoted to the members and the second part devoted to the history of the group. What I personally recommend is watching the Purple Hawk guide and then watching part 2 of the MooYT guide for the history of the group. I also recommend watching their Dingo Killing Voice for a sampling of their songs because Mamamoo really likes exploring different genres. If you can name a genre, they’ve probably done it. Their total discography including all of their solo works totals over 24 hrs worth of music with everything from beautiful ballads to songs where they bicker over who’s taller (by 1cm 😂). That’s partly why you’ll probably get a lot of MooMoos (their fans like me) recommending the Dingo Killing Voice medley so that you can get a better scope of what Mamamoo can really do and we can get a better idea of which of their songs we should recommend for you next
