Its true that Michael and Jermaine co led on some songs when they were The Jackson 5/Jacksons....but make no mistake Michael was the LEAD singer from their very first hit in 1969 till he left the group to go solo....Jermaine was just an after thought

@dottybambni
@dottybambni 3 года назад
Of course troop sang it betterment they were in the 90s and they had different types of singing techniques with vocal range and stuff like that. This was in the mid 70s and rnb wasn’t a big thing back then. I know for a fact when the j5 were teens in the 90s they would have definitely sang it better. But I give it to troop of course

Definitely Mike on lead, with Jermaine doin his counter line thing. Back in the day, when they arrived on the scene, I remember reading how Jackie, the oldest Jackson brother, who had the high & falsetto parts, really liked Jermaine’s voice the most. When I heard the Christmas album where Jermaine sings lead on the classics, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, & The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on Open Fire), I realized why. Even though from little, Michael sang precociously, like he had lived through what he sang about (ex: Who’s Lovin You), Jermaine had the more mature stylistic approach. It’s even evident on the Jacksons version of the Stevie Wonder tune, My Cherie Amore, which was on their 1st album. I’m super curious to know what album this is from, as Michael is clearly approaching that age of voice changing, which eventually limited his range temporarily as a growing teen. I know it’s difficult when you’re not from this era. But production wise? Basically, you have to follow the timeline. Quincy came from the jazz era, collaborating with legends like Lionel Hampton, Count Basie, & Frank Sinatra, ‘50’s, ‘60’s & ‘70’s, while also doing his own projects, including television themes (Sanford & Son, Ironside, etc.) & movie soundtracks. Michael stepped to him on the set of The Wiz, to get him to produce his 1st solo project, which became Off The Wall. It was a process. Prior to that, the Jacksons were strictly a product of Motown, & eventually Epic records, a division of Columbia, which became Sony. So this recording was probably still produced by Motown. Jermaine eventually married Hazel Gordy, daughter of head of Motown Berry Gordy, & out of loyalty, stayed with Motown while the family group went with Epic, & that’s when Randy joined full time. On other note, it’s a trip to many of us who grew up knowing of them as youth, seeing these pictures, how naturally handsome they were, & in particular, what Michael became physically, like in You Rock My World or the family reunion concert they did.....wow! Anyway, check HITSVILLE: The Making of Motown, & the Spike Lee produced, Michael Jackson’s Journey, From Motown to Off the Wall. You can learn a lot & get it into perspective.

The song was produced by Brian Holland of the famous Holland-Dozier-Holland team, who wrote the song along with Michael L. Smith (aka "Lovesmith") of The Smith Connection, another group of youth who you really need to check out, especially "I've Been A Winner, I've Been A Loser and I've Been In Love": ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sWuc_oPJ5Nk.html, their cover of The Beatles' "Til There Was You": ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yKABeE8m2Os.html, "The Day You Leave": ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pgZ1Y-d2vDI.html, their interpretation of "My World Is Empty Without You": ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-T8xrlgKKtVU.html and "i Can't Hold On Much Longer": ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-c-pgJV0OE_o.html. This song was great when covered by Troop (who had a big hit with it) but even better when executed by its original singers, The Jackson 5.

Shows you how great Michael was at a young age and also the Jackson 5 period...bro the Jackson 5 were international SUPERSTARS before Michael even went solo.....Jackson 5 had their own cartoon series and many television specials....Michael is the GOAT no doubt....btw....this song has been remade MANY times and was a hit for r&b group Troop in the late 80s or early 90s....whats crazy about this song is that its been covered so many times and yet this was the b side of the their smash hit "Forever Came Today"

Watchu mean you're an upcoming fan of the J5?! YOU BETTER LOVE THE JACKSON 5. NO OPTION, IF YOU'RE BLACK!!!!! My man, its called a ballad, or a slow jam. Its not called a slower tract. Slow songs are ballads. And nearly all ballads are about love. And its Michael on lead, Jermaine backs up MJ. lol 😆 BERRY GORDY is behind this. And "the corporation". Dude, ballads were a thing. Love songs were a thing. I guess these artists you grew up on, sang ballads. Show more respect to the Jackson family, son. Do your homework on them. Buy ALL their albums/cds.

They were on at the top of their game during this period. Motown's "corporation" production at it's best. This is an old school slow jam. For a large part of the J-5's Motown library they were produced by a group of producers at Motown called "The Corporation", and included the immortal Berry Gordy, Freddie Perrin, Deke Richards and Fonce Mizell (who later produced Donald Byrd and The Blackbyrds).
