Also so he could mimick the sounds better. I heard his roommate at the time said he'd sit there for hours with the drum set just trying to mimick one sound. Don't know if that's true or not but it sounds like something he would do.

You just say what you have to say. It's a reaction, and if that's your genuine reaction, then go for it. Adam is world class, next level talented and skilled. He taught himself beat boxing and vocal percussion and has worked very hard to hone his craft for over 20 years. Someone asked him how long it took him to learn to beat box and he answered "I'm still learning." I had the privilege to see Home Free live last October and Adam's solo set was jaw dropping. It was creative, electrifying and exciting. I never thought I'd be listening in particular for percussion in music. Then I discovered Home Free and specifically Adam Rupp. This is an older video and he's just gotten more awesome since then. He learned to play the drums so he could be more accurate with his vocal percussion. Love this guy and his fabulous skills. If you get a chance to see them live, go for it. You will have a fabulous time. They make you feel as if you are part of their musical journey and not just an observer. Great reaction! Good job.

Love Adam Rupp & his insane talent. He is the best out there in my opinion. He simulates the sounds of a drum perfectly. Many drummers have commented on how good he is. He sounds so realistic. His breath control must be crazy. I heard he makes the sounds both while inhaling & exhaling. This was a few years ago & hard to believe but he is even better now. Adam is the glue that holds Home Free together. He is their secret weapon which other a cappella groups can't match.

“I Can’t Outrun You “- Chance lead, 5 part harmony, hauntingly beautiful, and Chance directed the video. “Brothers in Arms “- more 5 part harmony, and it’s bass/baritone heavy. “Butts Medley”, not only vocally fantastic but hilarious as well. “Helplessly Hoping”- more 5 part harmony. Adam’s talent really shines in “Mary Did You Know “. And Adam did the arrangement for their incredible rendition of “Do You Hear What I Hear “, a Christmas song I never much cared for, but Home Free made me love it.

Adam’s nickname by his bandmates is Freak Of Nature. He has be beatboxing for 23 + years and is self taught and still learning new sounds. Now a days he uses looper in the beginning of his solos to make his own song it’s incredible then does his other beatboxing. There are videos of other solos where he does a Michael Jackson part dancing and all. He blows my mind every time I hear him Maybe next year when they start touring again the might get close to DC 😊

Great reaction!! I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Home Free twice in concert and left in amazement at their God-given talent both times!! They are all phenomenal singers and as Tim says welcome to the party! It’s hard to imagine that the guys take a vocal break while Adam does a 7-10 minute solo. Each time is different and he’s only gotten better. He now uses a looper to add extra layers to his solo. Simply incredible! Definitely get to a concert when you can, you won’t regret it! I think Listen to the Music and Workin’ for a Livin’ are two MUSTS for your list. Can’t wait to see more Home Free reactions. You are now learning, Home Free never disappoints!!

What impresses me, beyond the huge range of sounds he can make, is that when he does the vocal percussion for a Home Free song, he never does more than is necessary. He fits his performance to the needs of the song. It takes a lot of character to be willing to step back and not show off when you have that much ability and have put as much work and time into developing your craft as he obviously has.

Adam's mother is a music director at their church. As a result, he was around music all his life. And if the church band was short someone, he was willing to jump in and help so learned a bit of various instruments here and there. He went to college for trumpet but can also play bass guitar and drums. Maybe more. He didn't start beatboxing until he was in college. The movements just come naturally to him. He does them in music videos as well. But the rare times he sings, he stands perfectly still. And it is Rupp, like cup. His grandparents lived in a town only about 45 minutes from me.

I think a very good explanation for this: Adam Rupp is a drum alien in Angelguise. 😅 Because he is so unbelievably good(and handsome too😊😍)!! Like he swallowed a drum kit. And then vocally he can also make so many more (instrument) sounds which is not normal I also love the moves he makes with it. He has learned that especially to make it look "more real". The glue from Home Free. Adam Rupp comes from a very musical family. His brother Chris with whom he started Home Free is also super talented. Also listen to Chris solos but also other projects like 7th ave where he sings with their sister Tristin. I am so happy to see them on September 27 in Utrecht Netherlands. I'm willing to admit that I might miss the last train home... Then I'll just have to sleep at the station😂

Loved your reaction. He is amazing, isn't he. I've seen so many versions of his solo and it never gets old. I was lucky enough to see him live last December. He now uses a looper in the first part so he can harmonize with himself over the drum line. Freakin' unbelievable. And my 2 favorite things aren't even in the solo - he does amazing brushes and in the Sea Shanty he does castanets. And, even though I've seen so many solo videos, not once have I ever noticed the lights. Ha!

Home Free is well worth going out of state to see them live. I live in central California and I flew to British Columbia, Canada to see them. I took Amtrak to Stateline, NV for concert #3. (Concert #2 was just a ride a couple hours south to Stockton.) I have all the arrangements for concert #4 in December: front row for their Christmastime tour. I'm flying to Omaha and taking Amtrak back to California. In about a month Home Free will start a 2-week tour of Europe. When the US went into lockdown, closing our borders a few years ago because of COVID they were in the midst of a European tour, which they had to abandon suddenly. It was a case of pack up and leave NOW, in the middle of the night, or not be able to come home at all. I think they're trying to finish off some of those dates now, as they did for Canada early last year. If you can get tickets to a show after they come back, DO IT! Their shows are fantastic. Even the VIP seats are worth it. Meeting them and talking with them before the show is such a treat. They are a friendly and funny bunch of guys.

What makes HF unique is that they don't have a frontman, they have FIVE frontmen. Adam Rupp is capable of singing lead (It is well with my soul HOW GREAT THOU ART) but prefers percussion and harmonies. HF does use instruments, but you will clearly see them in the video if the group is featured in the video. Some videos will be hilarious and others will move your heart. No pick me up better than being Home Freed. Starting with the pandemic HF started releasing home recorded songs almost every second Friday. They kept us sane and boosted our spirits and I call it being HomeFreed. I honestly don't miss other artists anymore. Some members have their own channels that you should check out later. Austin, Tim and Chance (the second Adam) release covers and originals, whilst Rob does something completely different on his channel. They also love to collaborate with other artists and those collabs are gold. HF will make you enjoy every genre of music they cover, which starts with country and ends with opera. Till next time. 😊

He reminds me of Michael Winslow of Police Academy fame in the variety and accuracy of the sounds he makes. He not only does the solo in every concert, he commands a looper and creates his own music now. He is the best dancer in the group, and is the litersl heartbeat of Home Free. He and his brother Chris started this group back in college. His sacrifices, determination, business savvy, and dedication kept this group together, hired the right members, and built their sound. He still arranges amazing songs and designs every percussion arrangement for each new offering. When he joins in 5 part harmony such as Helplessly Hoping it is magical.

He isn’t a dedicated drummer but DID learn but focused on trumpet. This explains his level of breath control, because damn. As a choir singer I am in awe of that control and lung capacity. Now as to the movements: First, he knew how to play drums but beatboxing was actually HARD for him to get at first. He began meticulously studying each technique and how to get the sounds down…I’m gonna guess he was a bit obsessive. In his bio he says “ I’d spend hours repeating one sound over and over, experimenting to get it right, which likely resulted in my first-year roommate leaving after just one month” So, he may have literally played air drums sitting at the drum kit and tried out each BBX sound and linked it to the appropriate item. Maybe he played the hi top and kept trying to get it just right, then cymbals etc. This is just me speculating (aside from him saying he did get so focused he’d repeat one sound over and over till he gott it. ) Now, there’s a second part. It’s far easier to get a natural flow and remember better (more so if you’re doing things off the cuff? But even when trying to remember a whole performance of any sort …as well as things like studying etc) They tell students to do something that connects what they’re studying to memory (listen to this composer or that…or make a story out of the separate concepts and think of it as a story….) if we have to remember 30 SEPARATE items it may use up a lot of resources, mentally. The solution? Turn the 30 into maybe 2 batches. Then create a narrative with those 2 batches (whether as a story, as a song, as a dance, as a series of movements) the brain will process this not as 30 separate things now. It will process 2 more complex but less burdensome items. Even 15 separate ones would likely be more burdensome to remember and execute as fluidly.
@ThisTimeLady
@ThisTimeLady Месяц назад
Apologies for that mini essay. I often will seriously either go a bit too fast or too slow playing a piano piece unless I start moving with it. How on earth do we learn all those different bits that help us ride a bike. How do we remember to do x when we turn left, right, how do we just instinctively do whatever on said bike? Muscle memory linked to “ideas”.(stop, go, turn left etc.) much like a dancer knows to do this and that when they need to do x jump or twirl? Then combines those basics into what are more complex steps built on those smaller ones? That will all go and help when a performance need to occur and the movements already memorized will get linked to whatever music they use. So, it’s likely what’s going on here but the added bonus is that it entertains the audience, adds to the performance. You can see how synced up the moves are with what he’s doing. He doesn’t need to go that far if it was just for either him or the audience. But seeing as he’d likely already be moving about haha he likely decided to clean it up more and more each time.

7:20 last one! This is from a live after one that’s out there where he does way less, i think this may be around the same time as the other red flannel video (here he didn’t do the echoing “ladies and gentlemen “ …and then, there’s the 2021 performance. You can see how much he has gotten even BETTER, crisper, and the lighting went from an afterthought to this and then it really looks like it’s taking place at some EDM festival in the 2021 live XD

DO YOU HEAR WHAT I HEAR. Arranged by Adam. I listen to this six times on the trot. Older title with his brother Chris still part of the group. (Watch out for Austin doing the percussion beatboxing sound). By the way is Rupp as in up 👆and Rob Lundquist as in fun/lun lund. Love your reactions. So glad we get to take you on the HF journey. 🎉

P.S. And he can sing beautifully too!! He and his brother Chris started this group 20 years ago. Chris stepped away in 2016 and Adam Chance took his place. Adam had to learn to beatbox and he’s good at it!

I have to admit this is definitely older I saw him a couple years ago actually wow it's been almost three or four but his solo was almost 15 minutes long and I actually think it was a lot better than the one you just watched Not that this was bad but I think I saw in the comments this was from like 10 years ago and he is getting better every year it's just amazing
