This band… just the best! They were HUGE! I got into them way before this (Thanks, MTV!) and watched them change a bit with each album until 💥 Kick blew up the world! 💔 RIP Michael.

I love this song and it takes me back to my childhood in the 80s. INXS also had amazing live shows. I suggest checking out the live version of 'What You Need' from Wembley Stadium in 1991 to see what a powerhouse band they were in a live concert setting.

Yeah, this was the big hit (along with others from the same album). But contrary to pretty much everyone else in the world, I happen to think that the band's best stuff was actually in the 90s. A song like "Suicide Blonde" slays everything on KICK, including this admittedly classic track.

If you're wondering where you've heard this song before, it's probably on the radio or on a movie because it's a very well known and loved song from 1987. You also have bits of it in the 2020 Dua Lipa's single "Break My Heart" where she made an interpolation with INXS' "Need You Tonight".
Loved them, still do! I did a song by them with my band at the time called Never Tear us Apart. So sad the lead singer died young... (Michael) Interesting way you pronounce the name INXS. :) It's "In ExcEss", emphaize on the cess. No biggie of course... I still have the vinyl album and I still play it. Timeless! LJ
Should also be pointed out that this is the song Dua Lipa referenced for her track 'Break My Heart' - in fact, Andrew Farris and Michael Hutchence have a writing credit on 'Break My Heart' as a result.
Also worth pointing out that three of the guys (Andrew - keyboards, guitar, Tim - guitar, and Jon - drums) are brothers. Andrew wrote the song in 15 minutes while a cab waited outside to take him to the airport. It came out of nowhere for him. This band is the band I grew up worshiping and my first ever concert back in 1985.
There is a second part of this song. The other part is called Meditate. You should react to both at the same time. The drums are a drum machine. Back in the day DAWs did not exist. You had to either use a cassette 4 track recorder or a 4 track reel to reel. The cassette porta-studio was the most used while on the road to record ideas quickly. Bands would sometimes record a guitar solo into a porta-studio and then flip the cassette over. You will get backwards guitar or cymbals. The guitar solos on Red Hot Chili Peppers Give It Away was recorded this way
Saw them 3 times and they were great every time. Not their first hit but the hit that made them a monster band. Back in the day, you couldn't go to any catered event and not here this song.
One of the biggest bands to come out of Australia. Michael Hutchence was pure sex. They had so many hits over the years. Their albums "Kick" and "X" are masterpeices. I also really love the "Listen Like Theives" album. Their last album with Hutch, "Elegantly Wasted" is so underrated. INXS is one of my biggest concert regrets. SO bummed I never got to see them live.

This song "I Need You Tonight" was released on September 21, 1987 as the first single from their sixth album "Kicks", ranked no.10 for 4 weeks at the TOP 50 in France. It will also have some success in the world, particularly in the United States where it ranks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 but also in the United Kingdom, reaching second place in the UK Single Chart in November 1988, one year after its release after having been 58th a year earlier, certified gold for 400,000 copies sold. As for the clip, it was directed by Richard Lowenstein, was awarded five times at the MTV Video Music Awards in 1988: Video of the Year, Best Video by a Group, Best Editing, Most Experimental Video, Viewers' Choice. You may not know it but there are "two clips in one", the first song being "Mediate" which also appears on the album and the maxi 45 RPM of the single. in the uk new sensation was the first single i heard.i loved them straight away.i was in collage when this came out so that's what it reminds me of.it's in-EXCESS the red x in inxs helps.you did the short version.at the end there was a break then drum that is the start of mediate which you should check. please do suicide blonde.it is named after the name of micheal hutchence's(lead singer) gf kylie minogue's hair dye.rip micheal!

You're a bit young but in the 1990s and late 80's they were THE band. Best live band on earth and they travelled the world playing gigs everywhere including MTV. Their Wembley concert was packed solid with over 70k screaming jumping up and down fans. Anyway glad you liked it.
