@The Stranger I was at the recording 'Live After Death' concert Long Beach Arena 1985, and saw Paul Di'Anno play with his band Killers where he just sang the first two Maiden albums. The same year. At a bar in California.

@DenverStarkey
@DenverStarkey 2 года назад
@@rallypoint1 not true , the clack , tends to blend in with the drums any one with a good pair of working ears can hear his actual notes easily. that said IM exemplifies how you can mix a bunch of instruments and still make each one audible. so many people bury this or that instrument in the mix.

Agreed. It's a shame how much his voice degraded over time. It was sad hearing how little ability and power he had during one of the 2014 tours I went to and listening to some songs of current Maiden stuff now. When it comes to the debate between Halford and Dickinson, Halford managed to not only preserve most of his voice, but really enhance it in a new direction, adding a deeper operatic power behind it.

Bruce is classically educated, he also wrote a couple books as well. You can see the huge difference in what iron maiden sounded like and what they sang about before Bruce. He's an amazing guy volunteered to pilot planes bring troops home from Afghanistan.

Steve Harris (the Bassist) IS Iron Maiden. It's his baby. He is creator, founder, leader, and writes most of the music and lyrics. He is the only constant since he created Maiden in '75.

Steve Harris (Bass) wrote the entire song including the lyrics, and he wrote it last minute to finish the Powerslave album. So this masterpiece was written under pressure like a kid trying to finish their homework on Sunday night, pretty damn impressive and one of many reasons why Steve is one of the greatest songwriters in Metal.

Your comment about " almost hypnotizing" is spot on. The sailors were drifting on the ocean, with no wind, and no water to drink. slowly dying, nothing to do, but accept their fate they would soon die of thirst. So they just slumped down in the boat, silent, as the they rocked slowly back and forth.

Hi Aileen, please consider reacting to Iron Maiden “Dance of Death” (the Live EN VIVO! version). This is a powerful live performance in front of an electric crowd, which highlights Bruce’s powerful voice, his masterful storytelling abilities and his lyricism, all set to catchy riffs and metal grooves (even a classical accelerating tarantella-style guitar riff at the end). Truly magical!

Greatest band on Earth. It’s amazing how metal gets criticism for being loud and satanic. Yet most musicians respect metal as a constantly groundbreaking and imaginative genre. You can’t find an untalented metal musician since it requires mastering your art in order to be relevant. And there’s bands like Iron Maiden who are not only talented but in their love for history and literature, have come up with some of the most iconic songs ever. It is really like the contemporary version of classical music. The constant search for perfection. If you ever read this I would love to see a video reaction about how people in the past reacted to metal music. Love your channel and twitch. ❤️

As Bruce stated in the intro to the song, it's based on a poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge of the same name. The reason there are so many changes is because they stick to the moods and word choice in this poem. The poem in itself has different 'stages' or chapters with clear dividing lines in tone and feel. It's amazing they managed to replicate the moods and feelings so well without really using lyrics to convey them as much as great musicianship.

"Iconic" is a great way to describe Bruce Dickinson's voice. The band actually originally had another singer, Paul Di'Anno, who was also amazing, but his (alleged) methamphetamine use caused friction with the rest of the band, so they sacked him. A lot of people argued (and some still argue to this day) that firing him was a mistake, though I have no idea how one can truly believe that firing a literal meth-head and hiring one of the most iconic metal singers of all time was a mistake.

The bass is such a prominent element in Iron Maiden's music because it is basically Steve Harris' band. He started the band, recruited all of its members over the years, and is the mastermind behind the entire enterprise.

Its great to see a reaction that really appreciates the whole band and their chemistry. Steve Harris is a first rate bassist and Bruce has boundless energy, he is also an airline pilot and has flown the band all over the world on Ed Force One. He is also a championship fencer and even presents tv shows, on occasion. As a band they genuinely respect their fans, and fans are loyal to Maiden. Run to the Hills is a personal favourite check it out, it is about the Native Americans and their struggles with the settlers. Up the Irons

First comment, I laughed "nice bangs" Well in metal, hairstyle in important, lol. We read the poem for British Literature class in HS. I brought the song in for class and played it. To think I was listening to this in 1984, pretty sure before you were born Aileen. Man, I'm old. Bruce is a modern Renaissance man - singer of a rock band, commercial pilot, fencer, author, etc. The soft interlude represents the ship adrift at sea as the crew starts to die. Aileen, I encourage you to read over the lyrics to get a better appreciation of the meaning behind the song. The moral of the story comes at the end - "...We must love all things that God made" If you ever want to know what the best Iron Maiden songs are IMO and the meaning behind them, just look at the list I left in the comments of your Fear of the Dark react.

Actually saw them when they were on this tour in 1983. I was 19 at the time and it was the best concert I’ve ever been to. Upper mezzanine dead center of the stage. IT WAS SO LOUD! Loved every second of it. You couldn’t even hear the person right next to you even if they were yelling. The sound and light show was phenomenal and I was so happy they put this concert out on dvd so I can relive it over and over. If you like Maiden you should definitely check out the grand daddy’s of metal, Judas Priest. You think Bruce has an interesting voice, wait until you hear Rob Halford wail. I know most people will suggest the typical maiden songs, but please please please don’t ignore Dejavú and Caught somewhere in time from the album Somewhere in time. 22 Acacia Avenue and Gangland from Number of the Beast Album. And also, Bruce Dickinson is the the voice that people know maiden for but there is a hidden gem called Paul DiAnno , who was the frontman before Bruce and he is raw power, in which the band over all had a different sound too. Any song from the album Killers is an aggressive powerhouse of metal with some punk elements to it and it must not be ignored. Thank you for being and doing what you do. 🤘🏽♥︎ Ps. Little interesting side note about Bruce Dickinson, he’s a pilot/singer/fencer/soccer player, he even beat throat cancer and is STILL singing in Iron Maiden and performing to this day. The man is just…..he should have been Knighted by the Queen (God rest her soul, my condolences Great Britain), I mean no Blasphemy but Bruce isn’t just a Legend he’s a Metal God. Even Metallica says that they were heavily influenced by Iron Maiden, which in turn means Megadeth was as well, since Dave Mustane was a member of Metallica in their beginning. Really need to see their music video for “Wasted Years”, awesome message, awesome song, and some “behind the scenes/off stage glimpses into their lives, it’s very cool.

I think the feat that makes you really enjoy Steve's immense bass skill is the volume. Not only the bass is overlooked because of pinches vs bass notes, but it's also often at a lower volume than other instruments (expecially guitars) or at least that's what I perceive. Steve's bass is super loud and that's why I can appreciate his flaming skills so much.

I am a huge Maiden fan!! I recently discovered you doing these "metal reacts" and I just had to say that Iron Maiden is a top 3 for me, and you're reacts are neat :), I love that this is the genre you've chosen to react to. Way to go!! Bruce's singing is epic along with the music behind the vocals and the stories he tells in each track. Obviously paying attention to the music is easy, it's front and center. I suggest listening to the stories starting with this one... Rime Of The Ancient Mariner... it will draw you in closer to the music. I love it!!! (keep up the good work!!!)

One year after this reaction I can't help but chime in. This is definitely one of the greatest metal songs of all time, from one of the greatest metal bands of all time. And those guys are pure class. Steve Harris, the bass player gave up a successful career as a professional soccer player..... To create the band "Ash Mountain". Later changed to Iron Maiden. In their younger years, they 5 of them would challenge fans to get a team together and play a game of soccer. And Bruce is a successful jet airliner pilot. He flies them around the world to their concert destination on their own 747... Flight 666. They are quite remarkable people. So glad Steve was inspired in music over soccer. Look at what we would've missed out on. So fun watching your reaction. ❤❤

I was fortunate to see this tour back in the day, once at the Oakland Coliseum and once at the Sacramento Fourth of July show several months later. It seemed to Maiden was on tour forever for the powerslave album. Almost a year-and-a-half I think. An interesting side note here is that this show was taped very close to the end of the tour and it is remarkable how much voice Bruce still has at this point given the rigors of the worldwide Escapade they had launched based on this record.

I'm glad you said that you should listen to the album version because you have only reacted to live performances. I couldn't agree more. The first song on this album, "Powerslave" is Aces High. The last song is The Rime. React to the Official video for Aces High, and just listen to the Album version of Rime. I would suggest reading the lyrics to the Rime as he is singing. It's an experience.

I have seen them 3 times best band to see live ever. Steve has so much talent writing all the songs he has over the years.

So glad you did this song. I remember the first time I heard this song listening to the Powerslave cassette on my boombox in my bedroom. I thought holy heck this is amazing, and I learned a very cool story too. The studio version of this song is TOTALLY worth listening to as well.

You must see them live. I've seen them 5 times and met Steve Harris (bassist) once. They still have this level of energy. This is my favorite song, and hope they do it live again.

That video is from the 80s. The singer has a background in opera and that’s why the sound is so versatile and strong. Theater and opera are seen and heard very loudly in their performances. Great musicians, great music and ....... You don't seem to have seen EDDIE on stage yet? He should always bow deeply when he arrives.

The two lead guitarists went to school together so have known each other for a long time!! Which is why in my opinion makes them tight as a drum when playing together.

I've been a big fan for over 40 years and this is still in my top 5 favourite Maiden songs.You really can't go wrong with anything from this show though.I was lucky enough to see the whole set on their Powerslave tour in the UK back in 1985 and I don't think I've seen anything to equal it since.Outstanding!
