This song is used to close any party, wedding fest, student party... Everybody holding each other by the shoulder, jumping and turning, shouting the chorus as hard as you can. And the verses we sing only lalala as nobody really knows the lyrics. I can tell you that after a Connemara you have no energy and no voice left.

This song is about the Irish spirit of independence. And as you can tell, it has a very big Celtic inspiration. It is a French song traditionally played at the end of a party by the DJ to announce that the party is soon over or at least that the DJ is leaving. The song is borrowed from resistance and invites the last revelers to dance like a last stand.

As a French girl with Irish roots I have my own interpretation of that particular song. It is all about Irish independence and the scars from the civil war. Michel Sardou used to write very political songs. He has been involved in many polemics because of his political opinions and many songs are to listen ( read) « second degree » as they are mostly sarcastic like « the old time of colonies » that is a denunciation of what happened there. About « les lacs du Connemara » it is a painting of life in Ireland at the early 80’s, a romantic place with a dark past and the physical wound in the north ( black clouds coming from the north) if you need an explained translation just ask me ! I am very emotional with this song as it is a bridge between the two parts in me the French singer, the Irish history and music. And you can believe me it was not simple to find a song with my very Irish name in France (and also someone saying my name correctly 🤪)

Michel Sardou was touring in Ireland with his musicians and producers when after a long hard's work day, they jokingly decided to write a song about Ireland. But, none of them knew the country that much. They went to bed. Early on the next morning, the producer went downtown looking for information in tourism offices and came back with loads of flyers about Ireland. The band laughed a lot and decided to write the song just for fun. It turned out to be a B side on a record but the lyrics were kind of part of irish history/civilization and it became a great hit, one of the top ten here in France.

Nope, they were in southern France. They had left a synthesizer in a car. It couldn't stand the heat, and when they tried it, it sounded like bagpipes, which gave them the idea of writing a song about Scotland. But inspiration did not come, they finally left for Ireland, and wrote this song without having set foot there.

Hi, for « Le temps des colonies » Sardou is in the skin of a character, he doesn't talk about himself in the first person. It is a humorous song, not a racist one. Sardou is an actor in his songs, he has never been racist, nor homophobic or anything else. Anyway, keep listening to Sardou, he is our best singer!

This man is the 4th generation of a very appreciated artistic dynastie. He made his first appearance on a theatre stage at the very early age of 3 months ! He recorded his first song by the bias of acting when he was chosen to be the very first Enjolras from the original french version of the musical Les Misérables. He was so much praised for the wonder of his voice he decided eventually to make a name for himself in music industry. My favorite songs from is long list of material are Musulmes and Le bac G. He also made a duet with Celine Dion called Voler.

The fact that you wanna see it live prove how right he is and how you understand how Sardou works with all his song. Some success Breton songs in France: French lyrics: Hugues Aufray - Santiano (1961) Tri Yann - la jument de michao (1973) Manau - La tribu de Dana (1998 Pop) Breton lyrics: Nolwenn Leroy - Tri Martolod (2011 - traditional breton song remastered) Bro Gozh ma Zadoù (National Anthem of Brittany) An hini a garan - Denez Prigent (ballad)

Michel Sardou was my mom's favorite singer. I've been raised with his music. When you look at him, he seems to be a "normal" guy, but he is the French singer who has been the most polemical in his whole career. He sang "Le temps des colonies", and they said he was racist. He sang several songs that made people think he was the least patriotic French guy. People believed he was a misogynist, he sang "Femmes des années 80". He has been called "the 1st punk in history" because his songs were often very polemical. If you listen to "J'accuse", "Je suis pour", "Le France"... You will think he was crazy to sing these songs when you know in which context he sang them, the moment they've been released. In the end of the 60's French people criticized America a lot. Then he sang "Monsieur le président de France" and "Si les Ricains n'étaient pas là". In these 2 songs he reminds people and politics that if American soldiers hadn't come and fought and died in France, French people wouldn't be French anymore. Now he is retired from his singer career, he plays theater, but when he has something to say, he does.

Michel Sardou is perfect for reaction channel, because...he's a reactor himself (just jocking, but when he speaks on tv, most of the time he speaks like he thinks and sometimes it's bordeline because he's got some ideas not really common comparing lots of artists, lot of his songs are also pointed because of the lyrices not very politically correct). But he's one of the big old french singer. Fun fact: This song is like an hymn, every french people knows at least the "riff" and a lot of parties end with everyone singing it as "la lala lala lalalalala" ...even more when everyone is drunk and happy :-)

Black clouds Coming from the north Color the earth, Lakes and rivers, It's the scenery of Connemara. The following spring, The Irish sky Was at peace, Maureen plunged Naked in a lake in Connemara. Sean Kelly has said: " I am catholic, Maureen too! " The church in Limerick granite Maureen said yes. Tipperary Bally Connelly, And Galway, They arrived In Connemara County. Was Connor, The O'Connelly, the Flaherty Of the Ring of Kerry And with something to drink For three days and two nights. There in Connemara, We all know the price of silence There in Connemara, It is said that life, It is madness And madness It is made to be danced. Scorched earth in the wind, Stone moorlands Around lakes, It is for the living A bit of hell (A bit of a blast), Connemara. Black clouds Coming from the north Color the earth, Lakes and rivers, It's the scenery of Connemara. Some still lives on the path of Gaels and Cromwell, With the rhythm of the rain and the sun, the horse's stepping We still believe in it Lakes monsters That we see swim Some summer evenings And submerge forever. We still see Men from elsewhere Who came, Looking for The peace of the mind And for the heart A taste of something better. They still believed there That the day will come, it's close, Where the Irish Will make peace Around the cross There in Connemara We all know the price of war There in Connemara We do not accept Peace from Welsh Neither English king peace
