Girl, I was crying with you, and I've been listening to this song for like 30 years lol. That song was kinda the anthem for the broken-hearted for my generation...if that performance didn't make you feel something, you need a new soul. Eddie's still amazing, one of the most important voices of our time. I've seen several comments about this, so I'll reiterate it ~ Jeremy should be next, and it should be the official unedited version. But if you cried at this song...bring your tissue box. It's an incredibly important song, the story's impact is best felt through the official video. "Porch" live at pinkpop festival is next on the list after Jeremy.

I was born in Tacoma Wa a little south of Seattle in 1980 and left to Texas when I was 10 years old. Something I remember as a kid was in elementary school, the curriculum was teaching us music theory in 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade. They really push the arts in school in that area at least when I was there. They had none of that in Texas until middle school. Needless to say I was drawn to music early in life because of this and became a musician. This could have been why such musical talent came from that area at the time.

Loved your reaction. The thing about Eddie Vedder is that he can’t sing any song without putting his entire being into it. He gives 100% every time. His lyrics are poetry, and while his voice has deepened, and he doesn’t hit the high notes as much anymore, it’s still beautiful 30 years later. That's the real True emotions that came out right there! You're in it and can't stop it anymore, want listen to the end because you're in a flow. I'm so glad you reacted to this masterpiece of a song. I love how deep she engages herself within the music and this song just takes you to a place you didn't know you were gonna go. This song has incredible meaning to me personally because it describes my relationship with my high school sweetheart and the incredible heartbreak of a journey we went through with each other and something I would never forget and although I want her to be happy I always wondered why we went through what we went through. But regardless this song is simply one of the most beautiful songs of all time and hits every emotion very deeply especially with the way he sings with so much pain and passion. Awesome reaction and an appropriate one too.

Sadly this live version was shortened but for full lyrics: Hey, oh Sheets of empty canvas Untouched sheets of clay Were laid spread out before me As her body once did All five horizons Revolved around her soul As the earth to the sun Now the air I tasted and breathed Has taken a turn Oh and all I taught her was everything Oh I know she gave me all that she wore And now my bitter hands Chafe beneath the clouds Of what was everything Oh the pictures have All been washed in black Tattooed everything I take a walk outside I'm surrounded by Some kids at play I can feel their laughter So why do I sear Oh, and twisted thoughts that spin Round my head I'm spinning Oh, I'm spinning How quick the sun can, drop away And now my bitter hands Cradle broken glass Of what was everything All the pictures have All been washed in black Tattooed everything All the love gone bad Turned my world to black Tattooed all I see All that I am All that I'll be, yeah Uh huh, uh huh, oh I know someday you'll have a beautiful life I know you'll be a star In somebody else's sky But why Why Why can't it be Oh can't it be mine

Release me is another emotional vocal performance by Eddie, talking about releasing his emotions he felt about his father. He never knew his dad and found out later after he had already passed that his dad was someone else. I don’t know which live performance is best for that one, I will have to search and post link here. Glad you chose another of my list of vocal performances I recommend back in one of my comments, glad you enjoyed it as much as I thought you would. Great reaction as always, love it

"Black" is simply a stunning heartbreak of a song, beautiful no matter what version of it you watch (personal favourite is the live version from Pink Pop in '92). Not a bad song on the 1st album "Ten", from "Jeremy" (the official full video) and "Porch" (Again, the live at Pink Pop '92 version is fun) to "Garden", "Even Flow" and "Release" - i'd also recommend checking out stuff like "Wash", "State of Love and Trust", "Breath", "Indifference", "Rearviewmirror" from around the period of the 1st and 2nd albums (and from the 2nd) - there's a lot of later stuff that's awesome as well, and a great band to see live :) You've opened a massive rabbithole into several bands, not just Pearl Jam...

This is the 'Someone Like You' for the grunge era. It encapsulates that world-changing heartbreak of losing someone you love and torturing yourself imagining how happy they'll be with others. I recommend pretty much everything on their first 3 albums and a whole lot more after that. I mean they're my favorite band so I like almost all their stuff. But to name a few. From their first album, Ten: Deep, Porch, Release, and Garden, plus all the stuff that was on the radio like Even Flow, Alive, Jeremy, Once. Also from around this time but not on the album is a really great song called Yellow Ledbetter. From their second album, Vs: Dissident, Indifference, W.M.A. and all their singles, Go, Animal, Daughter, Rearview Mirror, and Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town. On their 3rd album, Vitalogy: Tremor Christ, Last Exit, Spin the Black circle and their singles Corduroy, Immortality, Not For you, and Better Man. Well that should keep you busy for a minute. Anyway that's their first 3 albums. After that they had less hits but there are still plenty more great songs to come. They have like 8 more studio albums after these.

I still remember when their album came out which while I was in high school. My friend had just got dumped by his gf so he wanted to listen to this song; poor guy looked completely defeated and destroyed. Since then though he found great girl, married and with kids. And if I recall, Eddie had a head cold or flu when unplugged was recorded. But he still puts that raw emotion, face gestures as he sings.
