No, Aurora is much better than you think ... Self taught, discovered from a video put online without her knowledge and she initial turned down the offer of becoming an artist. There are documentaries on RU-vid giving the full story. This is probably Aurora's most personal song, it took a long time before she could write it and it is very infrequently performed. This was recorded in break from the 2015 Wilderness Festival on a lake in the grounds. The song:- Aurora does like to leave room for interpretation with her songs but she posted this on Facebook in 2015:- "Today is the day. 22nd of July. It's been 4 years since you left us. Since all of you left us. how time flies, we even find ourselves forgetting for a moment, nearly moving on.. Not because we forget you, but because we remember to live. But know that I will always remember you, and everyone that went down with you. I will think of love, and send love to those who needs it this today. I hope no one is crying alone. Rest in peace my friend. You are free now. "Little boy in the grass" There are interviews on RU-vid where she is asked about the song and yes, it is about the Utøya massacre in 2011 and to someone important to Aurora who passed away that day. When pressed on the subject in one interview I listened to she agreed that they could have been described as girlfriend and boyfriend at the time ... He was 17 and she was 15.

Wow! That’s so intense. I had no idea about that. Tragedy can become such beautiful music when handled well. She certainly appears have handled it well.

This one is always tough to watch...her emotions are still raw....67 youths....I can't even process that scene in my head. Beautiful reaction to this....for some reason I was nervous to watch it but you immediately dispelled all that and made me love this performance even more.

The technical staff of the Mahogany Sessions have the same ideals, production values and skills as the wonderful people of the Norwegian broadcaster NRK who created Aurora's Nidarosdomen concert, are responsible for the HAIK series, which of course included Aurora's magical concert in the Os forest and the Nobel Peace Prize concert. A talent such as Aurora's obviously deserves the best possible technical conveyance.

@@steveogreact If you are interested I recommend spending 4 min privately watching this song in the cathedral (Nidarosdomen) in Nov 2017: youtu . be / 5n9tsO6pNQQ It is very different version with a full orchestra behind and a beat to it and much more uplifting. Here she might actually be at least closer to being "over it all" meaning that tragic event behind this song.

Thank you and good luck with the new channel spilt. This is Aurora’s tribute song to all the family’s who lost loved ones in the 22 July 2011 massacre in Oslo and Tryrifjorden. She lost a friend that day too. Great reaction and I’m looking forward to Aurora week. Aurora is working now on songs for a new Album.

This song and video is hard for me to watch knowing what it is about. I remember when this happened and watching it on the news and realizing the horror these kids went thru that day. Very sad. Aurora did a great job (in memory) of those who lost their lives and for someone who she was close to that also lost their life that day..

This raw performance, with its tragic back story, breaks my heart to hear her anguish. I can't imagine how difficult this was for her to do. A bittersweet eulogy to the victims and perhaps a piece of musical therapy for herself and everyone affected by that horrible event. Very brave of her to reveal her feelings

Yea. This is special performance. So sad and emotional. My favorite version of this song raw and just beautiful (there is also great full instrumental version from Nidarosdomen and both are a little different then album version :) ). And her expressiveness I always love it)... in some moment she even takes air like she would be crying. It is about Utoya massacre and I think boad also correspond with it as Utoya is a island (she lost someone close there). Thank you much for this reaction (and this version) and also for a Aurora week. Ps. She is natural artist without any formal education. She just started to make music as a child on old/broken piano when was 6 years old and then started to make lyrics in English from 9 years old (before of that she did not knew English good enough to make such lyrics). Even her parents did not know that she makes music for first years. She even did not wanted to be a artist only wanted to make music as a way of expressing emotions or just creating. I think (only my theory) her uniqueness in music can come from her personality (and talent) but also because as far I understand from interviews (if not please correct me) that as a child she was exposed to music but not so much: only for some music on recording which her parents listen (like Cohen, Enya, classic music etc) and she did not listen to "mainstream" music in radio/tv. She also said in some interviews that she generally does not listen to music too much. In some other she said she is working on music even in travels and has music in her head (like working on songs or has some parts/ideas in head) and if she listen to other music it sometimes "nullify" each other :). Fun fact is that she said she does not like to listen to herself :P. Of course this things comes from interviews in different moment of time and some things could change a little up to now :).

You’re right, and they didn’t even have a tv, and then you have more time to do other things. When I was a kid we had tv, but it wasn’t much going on there😅 So I used to draw, listen to music and read and of course being out in the forest😍 I’m glad I experienced that kind of childhood 👍💕

She is so fantastic..... this version of the song I feel she is hurting a bit more inside.... possible it is because of she is in a boat, and it is so close "setting" as the Utøya island and water was the place where the killings took place... many were killed at the water edge, like this video. My feeling only.....

Yay, great reaction👍 and so cool that you start your new channel with wonderful Aurora 😍😍 This song is so sad, I can barely listen to it without tears in my eyes 😢 I remember it like it was yesterday, but it happened 22 July 2011 that 67 youths were shot and killed (I know you’ve got the story from others)😢❤️ You should check out this song live at Nidarosdomen as well, a quite different version, more upbeat, but still beautiful 💕 Aurora is self taught when it comes to singing and playing piano, she’s born with this amazing voice/gift🤗 I absolutely agree, I don’t know another artist that is so captivating as Aurora, she’s truly unique in so many ways😍 I recommend watching the documentary “Once Aurora”, and also the documentary HAIK with an awesome concert in the end (in the forest). Two very different documentaries, but you learn a lot about this amazing artist👍 Could you please react to: “Soft Universe” live at Nidarosdomen “Exhale Inhale” live at VEVO ✌️💕

As usual, you did it justice, and I look forward to more, especially this opening week. I truly believe she's an all-time great, despite still being very young. This is one of my favourite reactions, to one of my favourite live Aurora performances, this is just so beautiful and the production is so good, all of which you noted. Perfection from Aurora and O.Martin on guitar and back up vocals. Not perfection in terms of sterility, just that beautiful undertone of rawness, which gives a live performance its authenticity, whilst being as close to perfection as a live performance can be.

Awesome! It's interesting that Aurora seems to frequently use harsh vocalizationsee to match references to violent or brutal content in the lyrics - in this case the Utoya massacre. She does so in Murder Song and It Happened Quiet. for example. So I was wondering if you might want to devote an episode to her lyrics and their roots in folk music's storytelling by artists such as Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan and Enya,. Of course, she uses her body with gesture and dance to aid the storytelling, as well.
