I guess we are Blinks, then. Wow this post is amazing. I'm sure our viewers who do not know them will appreciate it as much as we do. I'll pin this comment when not on mobile. Thank you so much!
So smart to do this chronologically. You can watch them being their amazing musical style. Welcome to the Blackpink rabbit hole. These girls are wonderful performers and even better people.
Wow, just wow. Automatic sub out of respect for going outside your comfort zone! I'm a New York rap/rock guy, always imagined K-Pop as girls all dressed the same dancing and being "cutesy". I checked out BLACKPINK after reading a small article about them after they debuted in 2016 and I've been addicted ever since. Last month I saw them twice in New Jersey then flew to Las Vegas to see them perform there. I'm so glad you checked out the documentary, as it's a large part of why I respect them so much (plus it gives a brief but decent history of K-Pop) Looking forward to following your BLACKPINK journey, I've got their full 2023 livestream Coachella performance, I'd be glad to email it to you if you like. Let me know if you have any questions about the group, I know way too much about them!
Oh wow! Somehow we have the feeling these girls and their music will be very addictive. We know nothing about this but we are eager to learn. We appreciate you watching and commenting and we may have questions along the way you can help answer. Glad to have you aboard!
To explain a bit more about K-Pop "albums": In K-Pop, the artists, mainly groups, are more prolific than here in the West. While groups definitely do put out albums as we know it, with 10-12 songs, in K-Pop they also release "mini-albums", with 2-4 songs, sometimes adding a remix or different version of another song as well. These releases, also called "comebacks", can happen 2-3 times a year. Although BLACKPINK debuted in 2016 they didn't release a full album until October 2020, titled BLACKPINK: THE ALBUM. This was followed by another full album, BORN PINK, released in September 2022. The group just completed their record breaking BORN PINK WORLD TOUR, which covered 66 concerts in 34 cities and 22 countries. The girls are now taking a well deserved rest, they are attending Paris Fashion Week, as all four are Global Ambassadors for different luxury brands.
That's good info about the albums. We are posting "Boombayah" tomorrow. Also the comeback concept is unique. Learning about this very different genre will be fun!
Whistle and Boombayah are Blackpink's debut songs. It launched the biggest girl group in the world today with 93 million subscribers worldwide. They have broken international records around the world.
WHISTLE & BOOMBAYAH are BLACKPINK's 2 debut songs, both premiered on August 8, 2016 and reached #1 and #2 on BILLBOARD WORLD DIGITAL SONG CHARTS, and it was the first time ever for a rookie kpop group to achieve that. with their debut songs.
Nice reaction, keep watching Blackpink. These are 4 of the most talented women on the planet. I am a 50yr old guy in Australia and I've never seen anything like them, they can do it all. I saw them live in Sydney in June, they are even better live.
New subscriber here. Despite becoming the biggest girl group on the planet, and regularly smashing world records, the girls remain humble and relatable - that is why so many people of all ages love them so much. Enjoy the rabbit hole that is Blackpink, you won't be disappointed.
Welcome! We appreciate you coming along on the journey and we are really excited to hear more. It's hard not to just go listen to everything now but we want to save it for reaction videos.
I'm half Korean and grew up in OH, in the middle of no where lol. There was no way I was going to listen to Kpop, then I came across BlackPink and they blew my mind. After my first video I thought, what just happened? They are incredible artists and people. Please continue to react to BP. Since you started with their first songs, I think you should just follow the timeline so you can see them grow and evolve. "Whistle" is my fav BP song. It's 2 different songs smashed into one amazing song.
Fun fact Jisoo did the whistling on the track. Enjoying your reactions to our girls. It's a deep rabbit whole but you will not regret. Blackpink is the revolution 💗
Yes they are. I was fortunate enough to get to see them live 3 times in the last year the 2 LA shows back in November and in Vegas in August. They are even more amazing live.
And now they are the biggest girl group in the world and in their last world tour they made over $200 million. Not bad for a couple of years of hard work.
Agreed, WHISTLE is definitely "quirky". Their two debut songs, as well as their first "comeback" two months later ( STAY and PLAYING WITH FIRE) are all decidedly different, as the company wanted to show their versatility. Their visual style, while frenetic at points, is almost like art, its so much fun to watch (and the visuals keep ramping up!) You may want to check out their newest videos PINK VENOM to see how far they've come! BTW they were 19-21 years old in this video.
A little background on "Teddy" who you met in the documentary: Teddy Park is a Korean-American rapper/producer who grew up in New York and California before moving to South Korea. He was the leader of a group called 1TYM before joining YG Entertainment and becoming a hitmaker for other YG artists. Today he has his own sublabel at the company called THEBLACKLABEL.
Good for you for expanding your horizons. Blackpink are amazing and many Americans instantly dismiss them because of the Kpop label. Their songs are positive and upbeat and the girls have a bond as close as sisters
Thanks to you both. I think you’ll find that what makes BLΛƆKPIИK so fun is that each and every song is so unique and different than the others. The only similarities are that they almost always have some rapping which is nicely blended with interesting and beautiful vocal choruses. Thanks again for stepping out of your comfort zone; I think you won’t regret doing many more BLΛƆKPIИK reactions!
You have a new sub. Loved your reaction, it was so refreshing and honest. I'm a blink as well, and as many commenters have said, you will really enjoy their music and once you have started you can jump down their rabbit hole.
Glad you guys enjoyed it! I’ve been a fan of theirs since a few months after their debut and can say they are a special group like no other. Can’t wait to see more of your reactions to them! Also since you said you enjoy rock, reacting to Dreamcatcher is a must! They combine K-pop and rock and it’s incredible. Also an incredible group like no other!
Fun fact: Whistle in Korean is hwipalam. So contrary to what the subtitles say, In English they would be singing Whistle - istle - istle instead of constantly repeating whistle.
@CoachCastTV Thank you for this recommendation! Not a 'Blink' yet, but will follow the journey! Definitely a vibe, but I'm searching my soul for a true connection. Loving your reaction😊
Thanks for watching. Music speaks to different people differently and it may not resonate with you, but the work ethic and talent are undeniable. Glad you have an open mind!
I recommend you react to their music video (if any) + live performance of the same song because their choreographies are amazing too ! I found it more interesting when someone does that ! Not a lot of RU-vidr does that ! You may start with their oldest songs ! Here's a list of some of their popular songs that you can consider reacting to: “Pink Venom” “Shut Down” “Tally” “Typa Girl” “Hard To Love” “Yeah Yeah Yeah” "Boombayah"✅ "Whistle"✅ "Playing with Fire" "Stay" "As If It's Your Last" "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du" & "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du Remix” "Forever Young" "Really" "Kill This Love" "Don't Know What to Do" "Kick It" "Hope Not" "How You Like That" "Ice Cream" (featuring Selena Gomez) "Lovesick Girls" "Bet You Wanna" (featuring Cardi B) "Pretty Savage" "Crazy Over You" "Love to Hate Me" "You Never Know" "Kiss and Make Up" (featuring Dua Lipa) "Sour Candy" (featuring Lady Gaga) “On The Ground” (Solo by Rose) “Gone” (Solo by Rose) “Solo” (Solo by Jennie) “Lalisa” (Solo by Lisa) “Money” (Solo by Lisa) “Flower” (Solo by Jisoo)
I just came across your video and may I say welcome to the Blackpink rabbit hole. You will enjoy it here 🖤💗 The girls debuted as adults (Rosé and Lisa were 19, Jennie was 20, and Jisoo was 21-Jisoo was generally even considered too old for a debut). It is actually a great thing since they are able to sing about mature topics like dating and love and other stuff and they can be sexy and alluring if they want to. It was also easier to have a crush on them since they are adults, so it didn’t feel creepy and inappropriate. They characterized this as “empty” mainly because it has a lot of atmosphere. K-Pop is usually heavy and bombastic and have elaborate music production and has a large sound but this song is actually very minimalist in its approach. That’s why the company was hesitant to release this as this is not the usual K-Pop sound that the audiences know, love, and enjoy.
Absolutely love seeing new people getting into the k-pop world, if you liked the netflix documentary on blackpink, they actually have another documentary on disney+ which is towards an anniversary of theirs but does give more insight also, keep up the good work, welcome to the world of blackpink and maybe more k-pop groups or soloist in the future 💛
Welcome to the rabbit hole! I hope all of the Blinks are kind to you. Not all K-Pop is like Blackpink (far from it), and Blackpink has a wide range of musical styles of their own. You can even see that with Whistle, which has pop, hip-hop, country (steel guitars), and EDM elements. If you like ballads, you will eventually get to a few of those from Blackpink, or the members' solo songs. Rosie also does a lot of covers of various styles, including rock (The Killers, Oasis, Coldplay). Enjoy!
We are very excited to have found them, and so far everyone has been lovely and done a good job giving us some info to learn more about them. We have another already recorded and will post in the near future. We hope to do their entire catalog. We're really impressed with them.
Great reaction. The mythology of Whistle is that Lisa hacks the fans into the controller at the beginning of the song. This has helped the fans have a say in how their career grows. Also it helps explain this video, which turns life into a vid game and or dream sequence.
ROSÉ 🌹(main vocalist) is my favorite because she is the most complete and integral of the group, her voice is the best, she dances excellent, she plays piano and guitar professionally and she writes her own songs.
Their other debut song "BOOMBAYAH" is more popular with 1.6 B views, the only debut song in RU-vid's history that got over billion views. If you like Rock try "KILL THIS LOVE" specially the live performance at TOKYO DOME (sing in JAPANESE & rap in ENGLISH) with live band.😊
I did the math as spelled out here. Not counting Leap Day, BLACKPINK's work hours: 5 years x 365days = 1825 days. Worked 13 days, get one day off. That's one day every two weeks. Every day worked, 14 hour work day. 13days x 14hours per day = 182hours worked every two weeks. 182hours x 26periods per year = 4,732hours per year. 4,732hours x 5years = 23,660hours worked in 5 years. 52weeks divided by 2 = 26days off per year. 26days per year x 5years = a total of 130 days off. 130days off work x 24hours = 3,120hours off work over the course of 5 years of training. 5years x 365days x 24hours = 43,800hours in total (divided by two is 21900) so BP worked more than half of the total hours each year, when most people only work for around one-third of the total hours.
@@CoachCastTV Absolutely! These ladies have a completely INSANE work ethic. Nobody over here in the West would appreciate working such long hours for such a long stretch without a break. Everybody would look at you sideways and walk away cursing over that idea. But that is exactly how these ladies made it to the top of the pile and stayed there for their entire careers, besides when their company was being goofy. There were a couple of stretches of time when BP did not release music at all. After the documentary was filmed, there was yet another two-year-long stretch when we got NO music from the group. So when we finally did get it, of course we ATE IT UP like starving jackals and wanted more! Of course that caused even more record-breaking things to happen (including breaking their own records in some cases). :)
@@jamescurfman3284 Wow, when you have perhaps the most popular group in the world, it makes no sense to have a long hiatus. The benefit of being late to the party is all this material we can binge.
@@CoachCastTV Yes, you have that exactly right! You both are very lucky that way. The one downside to that is, this music is several years old now (but that's okay; if you stick with it, you can catch up, especially with this group with their relatively small discography even though they made it to seven years).
In K-Pop, your favorite member is called your "bias". Thanks for recognizing my bias, Rosé. Please check out her performances on SEA OF HOPE, a TV reality show about celebrities who opened a seaside café, they cooked, served and performed on the beach for the customers. Rosé was the first special guest on the show, she played guitar and keyboards on a few songs as well: *THE ONLY EXCEPTION* by Paramore ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2DUdg4dnse8.html *READ MY MIND* by the Killers ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_r92v-T4gSU.html ...and her heartbreaking cover of *TIME SPENT WALKING THROUGH MEMORIES* by Nell (turn on subtitles) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mrUU_L-pfRU.html
Great Reaction CoachCastTV! Really glad you enjoyed BlackPinks documentary and Whistle! If you decide to watch more BlackPink videos we will ask you to check out their live performances! BlackPink has a band called Band6 which gives BlackPink a more of a Rock sound! BlackPink has two rappers Jennie (Main Rapper) and Lisa (Lead Rapper)! Rosé (Main Vocalist) and Jisoo (Lead Vocalist)! August 8th 2016 BlackPink debuted with Whistle and Boombayah! October 31 2016 Playing With Fire and Stay! Stay is their least popular song because it has Country elements to it but I love it cause I’m from Texas! Although Classic Rock is my favorite music I appreciate Country and Western also!🖤🌸🙏🏻
If you want to expand your horizons more since you like rock check out Band-Maid they are Japanese rock and some of the best musicians out there. Check out their song Play live.
You two are hilarious, keep up the good work. When you have time check out XG, a 7 member Japanese gg based in Korea following the K-pop formula. They have subunits of 2-4 members rapping in 3 languages effortlessly.
Welcome to the wide world of Kpop, and you picked a great group to start with. Many people (mistakenly) call it a genre, but it's really an industry with many genres that you can explore to find what suits your taste. You seemed to like the whistling in this MV, and Jisoo deserves the credit for that.
"Mini albums', and other synonyms, are what we older folks used to call singles - the main, "A" side, and a "B" side. Some disagreement, but this was supposedly the "B" side to Boombayah. IIRC, it was "country" rather than "empty"? Yup, song of the year on their domestic market, and it nearly didn't get released😎
You need to really try some Korean BBQ if you have not done so... Or Korean Fried chicken. To eat it is actually a awakening. Good Reaction. Fun to watch. But when I first looked at both of you.. I could have sworn you were KOREAN. We are all GODS children. Welcome to KPOP. Also if you like ROSE voice.. check our ther SEA OF HOPE concert live. Her voice is so beautiful. She sings a bunch of covers that are great. Read my mind is one of the best covers I have heard.
😄 Glad someone can appreciate the quirky humor. 🤪 Mrs. Coach has a lot of food allergies but we are now motivated to seek out Korean food. Thanks for the additional info as well.
To my way of thinking, an 'album' with only two songs on it is a single... 🤔 I'm not a fan of rap, I like my melodies, so I preferred the sung parts of the song. They had clear, bright voices. Also loved the whistling, which we seldom hear nowadays. I'm wondering whether a good part of their 'training' involved learning English, and of course dancing, fashion, hair and make-up etc. They really do present as a very 'styled' group. Not sure I'd be inclined to look out more of their stuff. I'm well past my 'pop' phase...
Coach is not a pop guy normally (with a few exceptions) but enjoyed this enough to watch another, and tomorrow's really got him. Plus watching the documentary gave us both a deep respect for them.
Korean is the easiest language on the planet to learn how to read. It was designed that way. You can learn to read Hangeol/Hangul in the time it takes to fly from America to South Korea. Obviously you still have to learn vocabulary… but reading the actual characters (ie seeing them and knowing which sounds they make) is the easiest of any language.
Whistle es una buena canción ,conoci a las chicas por otra canción , pero esta es epica me encanta el silbido y los rap ,deberian de reaccionar a kill this love de blackpink 🩷🖤 es incleible y saludos cuidense mucho

Coach loves both...Mrs. Coach has a lot of food allergies so we do have to be careful. However, Coach is definitely checking out some Korean food soon.
I shouldve warned you guys sooner. Blackpink is Known as a Gateway Kpop drug. Once you open this pandora's door to K-pop- it never stops!!! Then its Twice, G-Idle, Le Sserafim, Red Velvet, BTS, Itzy, Stray Kids, the list goes on and on. I see from your videos that my warning came too late. May God have mercy upon your Kpop souls, from one Blink to another.....
TAEYON a world treasure 🌷🌷. That’s understating. Listen on killer voice. Also u tube Taeyeon Seoul concert. A classic . Originally from GG =. Girls Generation. 2nd gen Kpop Song from Girls Generation video =. Song name = Paparazzi mixed with singing in the rain GENE KELLY voice. A wonderfully imaginative piece of work. I’m from TEXAS go figure. Enjoy ❤❤❤❤❤. As far as BlackPink first album fantastic. Brought to US and as far as I’m concerned had to conform to US standards which watered BlackPinks talent down. Kpop brought back classy choreography, high style fun interesting music. I’m quite addicted happy to say. Check out the past groups also. Girls Generation , Brown eyed girls , 2NE1 to name a few.. Many more a good rabbit whole to go down. PS I’m a MidZy big fan of ItZY ❤️
That's good info. We've heard those groups all mentioned before, and hopefully will get to them all at some point. Just not enough time in the day. LOL
Now that you've experienced K-pop, you have to try Korean BBQ! So good!👌👍😁 Did you say you like rock music? Have you heard of J-rock, Japanese rock? Baid-Maid is an all female Japanese 5 piece rock band that mixes classic rock, pop punk, metal and even Southern rock elements in their music. Guitar, bass and drums are all absolute shredders! Guaranteed your new favorite rock band! Start with Domination official live!
You should react to kpop MV because it really beautiful with full of meanings and storylines , I suggest you should react to V "slow dancing","love me again","rainy days","for us"and"blue"❤❤
IMO you started out with their worst song. It's not a popular opinion, but the song goes nowhere to me. If I would have started out first hearing this song from them, I would have never gone any further. But keep searching the rabbit hole. Every song of theirs is good. This is just my least favorite.
If this is their worst, then they must be something incredible because we both enjoyed this one. We chose it because they talk about it in the documentary. "Boombayah" posts later today and so you can see if we liked that one as well. Thanks for watching!
