I think TAYLOR MARI GUIDE TO THE BANGTAN 7 is the most entertaining introduction to BTS because it shows you why they are different and why if you add all other Kpop groups together it's about the same as BTS Market share. They are possibly a phenomena that will never be repeated for decades, if ever. That's why they get compared to the Beetles whose records they have broken. This guide does not tell you why they succeeded it shows you the chemistry and the culture of excellence and commitment to their fans and hard work that created a hot house environment where the members taught encouraged supported and protected each other. Taylors guide only alluded to the shit they had to endure from the industry that in turn created the pressure cooker that completed the creation of the 7 diamonds unique goofy kind supremely talented individuals. Seems like fan hyperbole .... watch the guide yourself and see.

In Addition to Taylor Mari's Guide, xCeleste has an excellent one called This is BTS and another called This is BTS ARMY. We can recommend other video essays and guides to understand the insane hardships they have been through, or how they rose to where they are, or why they are different and how they break molds and set standards and pave the way, etc. later if those are things you would like to know more about. I recommended some songs in my longer post below. But honestly, they cover so many genres and have hundreds of songs, tell us what you like, and we can recommend things that may be to your taste. A friend recently made a playlist including all their remixes, singles, collabs, OSTs and unofficial songs along with their discography for both group and solo albums, and it was over 600 songs. BTS is never what anyone expects, because there is no way to expect what has never been before. People do struggle to find ways to explain what they are because nothing really comes close.

I like your honesty and the fact that you're not overreacting for views either. Black Swan was a great choice to start as well, instead of the usual English trilogy 💜 The song talks about the fear of losing their passion for music and dance. It's based on the quote of a famous dancer that said something along the lines of: "A dancer experiences two deaths and the first one is when they stop dancing". Hence the title in refrence to the ballet Black Swan. To be honest, BTS are more often compared to the Beatles and MJ than boy bands like the One Direction. A lot of men like them and a large majority of their fans are between 18-50yo. They are really involved in their music and have a group dynamic that's really impressive. I get what you said about the number of members but it's not really their case. Their CEO was looking for a group composed of talented individuals that would shine even more together. Obviously, they're also good looking but some of them don't fit the typical Korean beauty standards and got a lot of hate for it. They really form a brotherhood and ARMY always feels weird when one is missing. Right now they're in hiatus to complete their mandatory military service and will be back together in 2025. You could react to many songs as they have over 300 songs between solos project and BTS songs. To get a good glance at their range, you could react to their 2021 Festa live. It's a medley starting from their first album 2 Cool 4 Skool (2013) to BE (2020). It's also mainly non-title tracks.

Lol, a lot of people clenched up when you said One Direction. I'm one of them, and have never been into boy bands. I'm 46 years old and am definitely not here just because they look cute. :) I'm also not into other kpop groups (though I appreciate some other works and groups). The vast majority of BTS fans are over 25, and there is a massive following of straight male fans. I hope you check out The Guide to BTS by Taylor. It will help illustrate the depth and breadth of their work and who they are.

I could ditto every single word you said but have to change the age to 61. I have never been into boy groups either. But anyone knows that BTS is not the normal definition of “boy band” once they know BTS, the depth of their music and the character of these men. There has never been such a connection between artist and fans due to the perfect storm that created our ties. I dare say our bond may not be as strong if they were not as humble, hardworking, open, and striving to be good people in life. Many don’t realize that most of BTS’s music includes deep messages and their real life struggles. Much of their music has references to literature, art, history, culture. To share deeper thoughts some music even dives into Greek Mythology, movies, or Psychology. There are truly layers to BTS and why people all over the world support them. Their music supports us on many levels and the men work so hard to gift us.💜 The group having 7 is not too many. They share equally and everyone gets there time to shine. They also put out their solo work and each one can stand on their own as a superstar. It is interesting to see how versatile they are and the many genres they cover. It will be interesting to see if you dive into more BTS music or to what level you dive in. Thanks for being open. Love to all you fellow ARMY.💜

Exactly! I'm a 43 year old rocker by heart, but BTS is special, so much more than kpop and defenitly NOT what you would call a boyband of the likes of One Direction (no shade on them though). As a baby ARMY I am in absolute awe of all seven of them. Their lyrics, their flow, their passion, their humanity and humility. Their love for ARMY and for each other. They are simply fantastic.

Yep, 57 year old here, and I grew loving rock bands like Journey and Styx, also Michael Jackson, Elton John, Paul Simon, and much more. I love BtS for who they are as men first, then their music and meaning equally, next. That’s not to say I don’t absolutely love their music - I just have never seen artists who care so much about the world they live in, and who not only appreciate their fans but give their fans 50% credit for their success. They are humble, thoughtful, though-provoking, deep thinking, and extremely talented men who challenge me to look differently at myself and the world around me.

Each song and performance is very different to the others. Listen to ARMY and we will guide you through the BTS maze to give you amore complete experience of BTS. Things to note from this song and MV: The main dance styles in this MV are contemporary and modern. They do swan related moves, as well as moves that show struggle, choking, feet stuck, defeat, exhaustion. It's an emotional performance. They are speaking here about the fear of loss of love for their art due to burnout. They had been working at a breakneck pace at this point for nearly 10 years, counting their starving days as trainees when their company could barely afford to feed them. I have seen musician and dance reactors get emotional over this song, because it is so rare for artists to be this vulnerable and share such real fears and insecurities about their art, but this is typical for BTS in terms of their level of depth in storytelling and raw honesty. The shadows in the MV are symbolic of their fears. Large and animated and not under their control at the beginning and growing more under their control as the video progresses. You can also see Jin's reflections in the mirrors do not turn when he does, similarly not under his control. They start in white in a black space on stage. Barefoot and alone in the dark, they are vulnerable under the harsh spotlight. Above them is a large balance of black space, like being on the floor of a dark ocean, drowning or suffocating in the cold, as the song lyrics reference later. The corsets two members wear are also a reference to feeling under pressure, constricted. The song references the quote by famous dancer Martha Graham which I know others have mentioned, "A dancer dies twice - once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful." The setting, of an opulent but empty theater, echoes the hollowness they felt even amidst their success as they struggled with their quite unexpected global fame and trying to continue to squeeze out art while mentally and physically exhausted. This was filmed in the Los Angeles Theater. The production on this song is deliberately constricted and made to sound a bit muffled and thinned, almost as though they are underwater, but with a base beat like a heartbeat thumping in the ears, as referenced in the song lyrics. Their production is often part of the storytelling. BTS are the biggest group in the world. Full stop. They remain the biggest group in the world and keep setting and breaking records even while they are currently serving their mandatory military time in S Korea. The first member returns this June and all will be back next year. They eclipse KPop utterly, in terms of number and scope of accolades and awards, in terms of sales and streaming, in terms of artistry, range and diversity, and how far they have come. They are bigger than all of the rest of KPop combined, by all those measures. In 2022, the MAMA awards invented a new category of award for them called The Platinum Award and called them The Greatest of all Time, because they had swept all the major awards for so many years in a row, the only artist ever to do so. They did the same at the MMAs, and again, the only artist ever to sweep all the major awards there and did so year, after year, after year. They do this because of their amazing artistry, the depth of their storytelling, their genius songwriting and producing. S Korea put them on their stamps, a first for a living artist. BTS has 4 vocalists and 3 rappers, all among the best in the world, amazing dancers and performers, songwriters, composers and producers. Yes, all four vocalists are powerhouses and the rappers can also sing and often provide harmonies and support, particularly j-hope. Their synergy is not something anyone can quite understand how to explain nor reproduce. Believe me, labels have been trying for years. They are a family and deeply bonded, but also a unique group of talents that are all very different, but all bring different colors to the group. The individual styles and sounds are very diverse. The rappers are the main songwriters and producers in the group, though all have done it. All of them compose. Member RM has the 2nd overall most song copyrights in S Korean history. Member Suga is known as The Midas Touch in S Korea, as he produces for other artists too and anything he touches turns to gold. BTS are a group of artists more than anything. Not a product. They were assembled on talent, not looks, and most members do not even fit the exacting and cartoonish K idol male beauty standards. They were called "The Ugly Idol Group" when they first debuted and dealt with a tremendous amount of hate over their looks. Two of the rappers were rising stars in the Korean rap underground before joining their label, and the third started as a street and underground hip hop dancer who was already nationally awarded for dance before joining Big Hit. Big Hit was a tiny, broke, Indie label and BTS was essentially their only artists. They were mortgaged to the eyeballs, lacked the resources and connections for training and promoting BTS and BTS faced a lot of pushback, closed doors, industry lockout and organized hate because they came from such poor and humble beginnings. Nevertheless, their visionary CEO, Bang Si Hyuk, prized artistic freedom over all else and the one mandate he gave the boys was that they should tell their true stories in their music. This they did, even though they took backlash for it, they came right out of the gate as teenagers with debut songs that spoke truth to power, criticized societal and political issues in S Korea and addressed taboo topics like mental health. PD Bang wanted to disrupt the music industry's commercial standards by protecting artistic integrity, and boy did he overachieve on that goal partnered with BTS. Their diversity in skillsets and genres of music is like nothing I have ever seen. They are hip hop at their bones, and also do rap, rock, pop, pop-rock, Latin pop, EDM, synth dance, R&B, jazz, neo-soul, funk, rap-metal, ballads, and more. They cover topics like socio-political and socio-economic ills, cultural and historical issues, current events, mental health, loneliness, alienation, grief, love in all it's types and phases from fated and romantic to toxic and tragic to familial and self, generational conflicts, life stages and their own personal stories and struggles. They draw from sources including literature and poetry, multiple cultures, philosophy, psychology, history, science, classic, fine and visual arts, mythos and religions, their personal experiences and more. Their storytelling and depth is second to none. Their dancing too is at the highest level, and itself is storytelling performance art, with moves related to themes and lyrics. BTS is huge because they clawed their way to the top, against heavy opposition as the ultimate underdogs with their sheer talent, strength of character, unique brotherhood bond and a very unique relationship with ARMY. I have never followed a boy band in my life before, and many ARMY will tell you the label doesn't really apply to BTS either because they break the mold in important ways. BTS are such genuine, honest, humble and kind people, so dedicated to their art and to one another and to ARMY, and have faced so much unwarranted hate, that it's impossible not to like them and root for them. They pioneered many of the things seen as "standard" in the KPop industry today and continue to reshape the global music industry as well. They continually surprise us and continue to grow as artists. There are still only two groups and one soloist at Big Hit: Their one senior artist is soloist Lee Hyun and they also now have a junior group called TXT. However, Big Hit grew so huge on BTS' backs, bigger than the previous Big Three labels in S Korea combined, that they reformed as Hybe Music, a legal entity that represents a grape cluster of smaller labels under it. Big Hit is one of those independent smaller labels, but still accounts for 70% of Hybe revenue, which is mainly from BTS. Hybe is the house that BTS built, and they all own stock in their company. Other Hybe artists on other small labels in that grape cluster include: Seventeen, New Jeans, Le Sserafim, Enhyphen, Fromis 9 and many more, plus western artists whose labels they acquired including Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande and others. No one is like BTS. No one ever has been, and no one is likely to be again. If you choose to dive into their discography, their live performances and their story you will see for yourself. Since they debuted in 2013, they put out 20 albums as a group, 11 albums as soloists so far, and many other singles, OSTs and collabs. They have hundreds and hundreds of songs and not a bad one among them. Welcome. I hope you enjoy your journey with BTS. For more powerhouse vocal display if that's your cup of tea, try Film Out, Your Eyes Tell, The Truth Untold, House of Cards, or solo songs of members from BTS albums: Lie, Serendipity, Euphoria, Awake, Epiphany, or Stigma as a start. LIVE is preferred for all of those. BTS is almost always better live. Their vocals are top tier live, and their dance and performance and live charisma are out of this world. Their cover of Fix You is amazing too, and check out Black Swan live as well. For more hard-hitting stuff try Dope, Mic Drop, ON: Kinetic Manifesto, Not Today, Baepsae, Danger, or Dionysus. Try the Pedal 2 LA Remix of DNA. If you like rap try their Cypher series (1-4), Ddaeng, or Outro: Tear (live at Wembley), or solo songs from the rappers like: More, Arson, Throwaway, Joke, Do You, Agust D, Give It To Me, or Daechwita. Their MVs are amazing storytelling and you don't want to miss them, but I recommend pairing them with live performances. Signed a 50+ educator and OG 80s metalhead who is ARMY for life, along with my nuclear engineer husband who is also ARMY for life.

God damn it, BTS will really never live down the "one direction" boyband stereotypical comment just bc they are "handsome men who are in a group together releasing music" 🤣No matter how many of their songs they've written/produced/composed, how many times they go against industry standards to speak up abt injustices in korea and the world both in their music and outside of it, how many years it took for them to release a single song that could be classified as "mainstream pop", how much they struggled with money, hatred, racism, xenophobia, how many billions of dollars they have contributed to SK's economy, how many times they set themselves apart and above any other group that has ever existed before and after them AGAINST ALL ODDS in terms of a combination of artistry, versatility, longevity, impact and brotherhood. None of that will matter to ppl/media bc they immediatly make a connection to something completly different on every single level just bc the aesthetics of it match up in their mind. LET THE ONE DIRECTION BOYBAND STEREOTYPE DIE, PLS I BEG 😭🤣 On a more srs note though, BigHit (their label for the past 11 years) were not concerned with having 7 different men in order to market them to teenage girls....I think you just have to take one look at them and their music when they first debuted in 2013 and combine that with the standards of what the kpop industry at the time expected to market to teenage girls to understand that LMAO (They started out as a hiphop idol group btw). BigHit was a VERY VERY VERY small company when BTS was formed, astronomically small compared to the big 3 (SM, JYP, YG), their ambitions were not to be mainstream, more like to make enough money to survive another year despite having lyrics and messages very critical of the SK educational system and society in general, you know, your typical music to be marketed at teen girls (lol). This isn't to say that teen girls were excluded from the market they were going for, just not their focus or aim when the group was being formed. To this day, the only artists under BigHit are BTS (who started their training process in 2010 and debuted in 2013), TXT (a group that started their training process in 2015 and debuted in 2019) and a solo artist named Lee Hyun (since 2007). That's it. 3 artists under one label. Their company even came close to bankruptcy in 2014. BigHit didn't have the capital or media influence to help BTS get exposure in the industry. BigHit spent 2 years looking for members for BTS, the initial idea for the group started with RM (one of the rappers) after one of the producers at BigHit found him and the idea born from that was to form a hiphop group (not idols, no dancing, just rapping), it was after the addition of J-Hope (another rapper), who was/is an incredible dancer, that the idea slowly morphed into what it became, a hiphop idol group with full choreography who would participate in kpop shows while also prioritizing the member's artistic identity and autonomy when making music, not manufactured idols, this lead to some trainees to give up on being part of the group and the rest of the 4 members being added over the next year, Jin was scouted on the streets for his looks and intented on becoming an actor under BigHit not a memebr of an idol group, JK was only 13, V never even sought out to audition for BigHit, he was just accompanying his friend when staff members asked him to audition as well, Jimin was added only 6 months befored their debut, none of them had experience with singing prior to becoming trainees, they were all chosen bc they were the right fit for each other, not bc it made it easier on the company who had to hire vocal teachers for years to come. There was also an 8th trainee who gave up being a part of the group before their debut. Each of the members are very different from each other musically, despite them all now being incredible performers, dancers, writters and producers, they all gravitate towards different genres and styles of music/art. When I first got into BTS I also thought 7 members was a bit much for a group, it was only by allowing myself to explore who each of them were that I was able to understand why all 7 are part of BTS and could see all 7 unique contributions to their discography, whether its in the visuals, lyrics, melody or production I can see all the members talents and visions coming together cohesively. But most importantly I can see how important they are to each other and how to them having a single member added or removed from the group would be aa disaster. Fun fact: BTS is one of the groups that inspired SB19, 2 of the members got to meet BTS back in 2014 long before BTS was what it is today. And if all of that information was not enough to convince you of what I'm saying you should watch "Why most armys don't like kpop" by boracity magazine and also "BTS vs Kpop" by bby gang mag (even if you do it on your own time since it doesn't seem to be the type of content you react to) Since you seem to like "instrumentation" a lot, off of the top of my head I recommend the songs Outro: Wings, Tomorrow, The Truth Untold, Ddaeng, Not Today, Crystal Snow (one of their japanese tracks), Butterfly, Snooze by Agust D (Suga) ft. Ryuichi Sakamoto & WOOSUNG (legendary japanese composer & a member of "The Rose", respectively), For Us by V, (they are amazing in concept and execution and are very unique). Also if you could let us know your favorite genres of music bc it makes it easier to find songs to recommend, since what is hard to find is a genre that BTS has not done and killed it. Thanks for the honest reaction, glad you liked black sawn enough to make your playlist, it's a very deep and meaninful song for the members and their personal relationship with music and I hope you keep exploring BTS music even if it doesn't come from patreon.

@@anabhousen7159it's probably due to always dealing with those assumptions in the beginning. Not to mention, we don't know how often these older fans are dealing with these assumptions and speaking up about being an older fan so it probably becomes habit to remind people that BTS has older fans. Also, even if the reactor doesn't mention the age of the fans it doesn't mean that they don't hold those preconceived notions unconsciously. I've seen plenty of reactors that never mention the age they believe the fans to be but in another (later) video they mention the genuine surprise about the age of the people watching the video. And how it was great to see that and made them want to dig into BTS more 🤷🏾‍♀️

BTS has been a group about 12 years and pioneered most of the things seen as industry standard now. All 7 BTS members have very different musical identities and genre preferences. Unlike other Korean bands they all write compose produce. Their ability to collaborate and split off for solo work is why they never will need to actually split. They have over 700 awards between them and their own personal achievements and accolades. If you want to get an idea of the range of songs try BTS FESTA 2021 which is a live medley in a relaxed setting. Or to hear just their voices BTS MTV UNPLUGGED FIX YOU, or BTS TINY DESK CONCERT with a live band. Solos. I appreciate you stepping out of your comfort zone. However, I do find it odd that a professed "songwriter/rapper" did not approach the lyrics or the meaning of the track. There was an obligatory girls reference though. As a 66-year-old male ARMY I guess I am getting cantankerous when someone markets himself as a songwriter/rapper and ignores any mention of the words. But good on you for taking a first step. That is the start of any journey.

I love their songs individually and as a group. 🥰 I'm happy with the reaction. 🥰 Looking forward to more reactions from you. 🥰 I would love to see you react to how they started as a group, their humble beginnings. I love how humble and kind they are despite their worldwide success. 🥰 They deserve where they are now. 🥰 They also talk about loving yourself all the time. 🥰 We need more of that at this time. People are so hard and cruel nowadays, especially on social media. They have a very good influence on the people. 🥰 Thank you for the reaction. They have a wide variety of music. A lot of new reactors aren't used to actually analyzing pop music. Jpop tends to be shallow and if we're honest, kpop often is too. We as ARMY know that BTS is pretty unique and that's part of why they're so popular.

If you decide to pursue your BTS journey, you will understand why. People do have misconceptions about this group. All we ask, is that they are given the chance, so keep an open mind. They are not just a boy band, cause through their lyrics , poetic ones I must say ( not the English songs much ) , they inspire people. Thank you for your reaction

One, (of many) main things that separates BTS from western "boy bands" is that the members of BTS are currently bad ass soldier's, come from a country that is still technically at war and have jobs that range from assistant drill instructors, field artillery, (i.e. big guns) to counter terrorism not something any western boy band has to deal with but something that not only BTS but other male K-pop idol's have to think about. Also, during their service, (as far as I am aware) they are paid only the salary of a soldier in their given rank.

BTS has several Japanese albums with both Japanese versions of hit songs and original ones. You may one to check them out. Their vocals really shine in them, particularly on Crystal Snow, Film Out and Your Eyes Tell. Additionally, their songs not always include all seven of them, so there’s a ton of variety. They have solos, duets, vocal-line and rap-line songs. They have a sizable adult male fan base as well. Their number has kept growing as they have released their solo albums and drawn people into the BTS world that may have otherwise been skeptical about a “boy band’s” merits. One member performed at the World Cup opening ceremony, another at Lollapalooza and a third at a Coldplay concert. Another had a sold out concert tour in US & Asia.

4:15 I get what your saying, about appealing to "girls" and there is a huge visual component when it comes to Kpop (there are actual visual stans who aren't really there for the music/message at all). BTS itself was actually supposed to be a hiphop crew when the project 1st formed around the 1st member RM & originally there was just rappers (RM, Suga aka Agust D & JHope) until the project changed and BigHit added the vocal line (Jin, Jimin, V & Jungkook). I would say a big difference between other boybands and BTS is that their producer's one requirement was that they have a hand in the songwriting to include their own stories/experiences. RM and Suga were underground rappers prior to joining BH and already had their own colour as artists and songwriters/composers/producers. BTS' first 2 title tracks No More Dream and N.O are basically social critics and a call to young people to have the courage to follow their own dreams and to say no to anything else - which might give you an insight into the type of fans/people who were/are drawn to BTS' music. Black Swan, which is based on a famous ballerina's quote about how a dancer dies twice, the first time when they can no longer dance and explores their fear of no longer loving music & burnout. It's part of an album series based on psychologist Carl Jung's book Map of the Soul (album has the same name). The rapline has 3 solo songs from that album as well RM = Intro Persona, Suga = Interlude Shadow & JHope = Outro Ego, there's also ON which has already been recommended. Many of their songs can be taken as superficial love songs, but like in their album series Love Yourself Her/Tear/Answer, you'll find that these songs have a deeper theme of all the aspects of love and not necessarily love between partners, but also between you and yourself or like BTS between themselves as brothers & band members as well. There's a history of BTS being dismissed, mocked, hated on (to the point of death threats and actual petitions to the SK president to have them disbanded), etc so you'll find that many fans can be very protective, sometimes overly so, but if you learn more about their history and how they have been industry disruptors both domestically in SK and in international markets it might make more sense, but otherwise thanks for keeping an open mind and being honest with your reactions.

Hmm, I'm glad you enjoyed the song, but I think you have some pretty strong preconceptions about the group/fans. If you get deeper into them that might change. They don't generally appeal to the same crowd as One Direction, and 7 members doesn't seem like too many when you look at what they each bring to the table creatively. Their roots are in hip hop, with some of the members coming from the underground rap scene, and all members contribute to writing and producing. They certainly aren't "designed so that girls can have lots of members to choose a favourite." Something in your comments and expressions makes it seem like you assume young women aren't capable of looking beyond visuals or being interested in quality, meaningful music. So while I'm tempted to say "hey actually ARMY is really diverse we're not all teenage girls!" instead I'm going to point out that some of us are teenage girls, and those teenage girls are cool and have good taste in music. While BTS' music videos are super fun, and there are some great catchy songs with amazing visuals and choreography, in my opinion the best stuff is generally on the albums. My personal favourite albums are 'Wings', 'Tear' and 'The Most Beautiful Moment In Life' series. Their solo music is awesome too, check out albums like 'D-Day', 'Indigo' and 'Jack in the Box' to blow your preconceptions wide open. Their live performances also bring a whole new level to their appeal, these guys are amazing performers. Their lyrics are really important, so you need to read quality translations somewhere like 'DoolSetBangtan'.

You don’t seem like a lyrics type of guy. Bts leader loves Nas, so a lot of their songs are lyrics focused. The instrumentals/vocals/dance help to tell that story. If you like a lot of noise/production like in some jpop there are songs like that but not a lot. I would not expect vocals on a trap beat. That’s ridiculous.

With "Black Swan," BTS divulge their most harrowing shadow yet, one that any person who lives for making art faces: losing the passion for creating. "A dancer dies twice - once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful." Martha Graham. This quote is at the root of the sentiments inlaid in "Black Swan." Much like a dancer feels purposeless when they can no longer express themselves through dance, BTS contends that the day that music no longer fills them with the same passionate fire as before, or even if there came a day when they stopped creating music - what they feel is their life's purpose - it would feel like death. RM sings, "If this can no longer resonate / No longer make my heart vibrate / Then this may be how I die my first death." Once again, BTS affirm that despite their countless record-breaking accolades, the wealth they've amassed, and their ever-increasing fame, they are artists. What means most to them is the art - music, visuals, dances - that they create.

Black Swan is about their fear of losing their passion for their art eg Song Writing, Composing, Producing, Rapping, Singing, Dancing even just going up on stage. But they over come that fear and the' Shadow' represents that fear. At the end it of the MV the Shadow falls down to nothing representing they conquered that fear. 'Shadow' is a Psychological term from Jungian Psychology along with Persona and Ego. This song is from the album series Map of the Soul where they explore Jungian Psychology and in regards to themselves. There's a harp like sound and another instrument someone said one is a Traditional Korean stringed Instrusement. There are 7 members of BTS 3 Rappers who all came from the South Korean underground Hip Hop scene 2 as Rappers/Producers and 1 as street dancers. They have 4 Vocalist and but they can all sing. They are a group of 7 Song Writers, 7 Composers 7 Producers each to a lesser or greater degree. One of the Rappers RM has the most Credits lodged with the South Korean Copyright association in fact he's has more song credits for song writing, composing and producing than any other kpop artist. While Rapper Suga (aka Agust D) is an award winning Producer and writes and Producers for other artist's from other companies. This is a big part of why they are not just the biggest group within the Kpop Industry but the biggest global group on the planet in fact they are the only group able to compete with solo artists. They are one of the top 10 global artists.

Hi! Black Swan came out just when I was losing my passion for my career. These lyrics hit me so hard. Imagine, growing up, loving something so much and working so hard to achieve your dreams and then find yourself stuck. Can you ever get the love back? BTS sings about every genre' of music. If you want POP they have Pop. Their Pop songs aren't deep. They made them for ARMY during covid to cheer us up. I believe most ARMY's are here for the lyrics. If you're willing, BTS can take you on a wild and wonderful ride. My suggestion for your next video; Blood Sweat & Tears. It's completely different than Black Swan.

Ohdearme. I really like tat you listened to BTS and appreciate that 'this is solid'. This is an absolute classic. This may seem a chill easy listening song, but, perhaps not so much when you do some research. It's very painful and laced with great fear. Beautiful, but existentially frightening. & may seem like a lot to you, but bear in mind that they sing and dance live - you try it! 😂 Idol music is deeply collaborative - it is not about one lead player - it is about 7 working together each showing their best. The rappers write their own raps, and each is from their own perspective on whatever the subject in hand. The vocalists seldom write a lot of the lyrics (though it happens) but each will contribute to adding a shade or an emphasis to a phrase, especially in terms of harmonies and colours. and any one might add to the choreography - even those who are criticised as 'poor dancers'! BTS is widely misunderstood in the west, in part because they are Korean (and they are VERY Korean), using their culture and history (just like we all should) as well as exploring many elements of western culture. If you want to look deeper, there is always more than on the surface - for example this song is part of their work exploring the psychological theories of Carl Jung. Those theories are nor explored superficially, but are taken on a personal level and looked at from their own lives. This song is about fear : the fear that as an artist you may be nearing the end of your ability to conduct your art as you have for the last decade. It was written about a time that BTS themselves were nearly burned out and feared they might have to stop living a life of intense work and creativity which had consumed them all for over 10 years. They reflected on a quote from Martha Graham which talked of a dancer dying two deaths with losing the ability to dance being the more painful. One Direction, and in fact 'Boy Band' BTS are not. Sure, they are pretty - part of the job description which does not hurt, but you would be foolish to look no further than that. That's not why most of us are here. Most of us are here for the ideas and the incredibly warm loving support they give to us, when they share their own fears and uncertainties, and tell us that we too are more than we think we are. I'm 68 and I've seen them all, all the bands, all the boys. I've listened to all sorts of music in all sorts of languages and styles. I've never found a band - of any kind - that has the kind of open, honest and immediate relationship with fans, which BTS fosters, or who's fans are so open and supportive not only of BTS but of each other. It's not always easy to fully understand BTS' work - the culture is very different, the history is different, and much more, but good lord it is fascinating. Fine, even if you don't need to really understand what 'the Shadow' is, or the meaning of Singularity, actually, the music is enough to lift you right across a room - and over there, there may be an ARMY who can help you out! I apologise for this note. I really don't think I've made myself very clear at all. I just hope that you will open your mind just a little more to the idea that BTS are more than a 'boy band'. Nothing wrong with them - if you like um, fine. I never did, much. And none have come close to achieving what BTS do on a normal week at work. I note that you have now observed that there is an audience for BTS on the channel. There is an audience for BTS almost everywhere. And we love seeing people discover them and realising that they are 'not what they expected'. It's absolutely fine if you dislike them - but please don't listen half-heartedly and miss the point! If you listen dismissively - which you came close to here - your audience will rapidly evaporate, and you may "benefit" from the opinions of a few passionate ARMYs who are unimpressed by your lack of research. We all start off knowing nothing, and often start of saying stupid things that expose our lack of sense, but, ARMYs are generous and recognise good hearts who are honest and want to learn. If you hate a song - or the band - fine, move on. I HATED several BTS songs (I remain at best lukewarm about their English songs, though the performances are stunning) - later I learned better. Anpanman - well, is a silly poppy song about child's 'superhero', and GoGo is an annoying song about you only live once, Very poppy and silly, both of them - really annoying. Then .... I found out. Anpanman is based on a Japanese child's manga about a little man made out of bread, who hears about young children who are starving and flies through the city to find them, and then he breaks off a piece of his own head to feed them and their family. After that he can't do anything for a while, can only rest and wait for his head to grow back. That is a light hearted story of extreme self-sacrifice. Gogo is actually an account of the financial plight of many young people in Korea where living costs are soaring, and wages low: as a result many spend all their available money having fun, and get heavily criticised for being feckless. But in fact, most know exactly what they are doing and why - they will never be able to save enough to secure their own home (even to get the rental deposit), so what is the point of saving? They may never be able to have their own family or their own life, but spend long days in dull jobs with no prospects, for decades - so, live now. Both these songs are satires - and until I understood, I hated them! But they are golden moments of joy, with another message that doesn't distract from the light and sunshine of the music, but none the less somehow remains comforting. Not for everyone: that's OK.

It can be a marketing strategy but personally I think it's very balanced , 3 rappers all 3 have diffrent flow plus one is dance leader(jhope) , other is a producer(suga) and RM is the spokesperson and leader. As for the vocalist there are 4 . One has deep and baritone voice (V) , one has very high pitch and sweet voice(jimin) , jungkook and jin have high to Medium pitch but both have diffrent quality. But all vocalists can go both high and low. This creates multiple layers in their vocals. And all of them contributes in writing the songs and jimin, jk jhope and V are in dance line. So its more of a balance. SO, when we ARMY say every member is needed , We MEAN it. BTS can't be BTS without all of the 7 members.

No offence but comparing 7 uber talented, hard working all rounder artists, musicians to however many 1direction members/performers is not fair to 1d. You are literally comparing 7 uber successful musicians (individually and as a group) who write, compose, produce, sing, rap, dance perform and have made the world a better place to some performers who couldn't even get along with each other.

I am a fan of Bts and 1D and it is honestly very disrespectful to call the 1D members only Performers. They wrote almost all their songs since their third album (Before that they’re were like between 16 and 19) and all member have written many of their songs. Zayn and Liam are also both better vocalist than any of the BTS members, followed by JK. Harry Styles and Zayn Malik also both have very successful solo careers right now, like Harry is arguably one of the most popular artists out there right now. All of the 1D members have solo albums, that they have mostly written themselves, so I would call them artists instead of performers. All of one direction members have written more songs than Jk, V, Jin or Jimin. You’re right that there were problems within the group, but they also had genuine friendships with each other, like Harry and Niall or Louis and Niall or Niall and Louis or Liam and Louis or Liam and Niall. They’ve still had interactions with each other over the past years, even after being on a break for more than eight years.

Love how you breakdown the instrumentation.. that "guitar" type sound you heard was made using the traditional 12-stringed Korean instrument "Gayageum". It is probably the most well recognized Korean instrument. The Gayageum is a plucked Zither, usually has 12-strings, but may have 18, 21 or 25 strings. Many Kpop groups incorporate traditional Korean instruments. BTS & Stray Kids are the 2 groups who do it more frequently and beautifully. (FYI, Wikipedia has a fairly detailed explanation about the song, including the instrumentation.)

5:55 you might be thinking of interpretive or contemporary dance. Jimin majored in contemporary dance as a HS student, as well this songs theme is based on a ballerina's quote so the choreo is definitely influenced by that.

ngl I almost turned you off at 4:20 with your comment about 7 members being "too much" and a "marketing ploy for the girls" *sighs* BTS is 3 rappers and 4 vocalists. Each bring a unique range and color which makes their vocals outstanding. The 3 rappers - who all have different approaches/and flow write a majority of their music - but the vocalists also contribute to song writing as well. EVERY member is important for their sound/success. I guess the standard stereotypes are to be expected from your first listen and i really hope you learn a little about this group of talented, hard working, humble underdogs who made it big when so many in the Kpop industry and the western industry was (and still is) against them succeeding. Are you actually reading the lyrics?? BTW - I am 57, have seen thousands of bands live - and NOTHING has hit me like these guys have. Although it *IS* music for smart people - so I understand why so many struggle with them. Name another band that routinely makes you do research to truly understand their lyrics - (referencing literary works, psychology, art) and then still be open to additional interpretation. and FYI - there are a *LOT* of male ARMY (fandom) who also resonate with their songs about self love and acceptance, not fitting into society, being critical of said society, and trying to make it a better more positive place. I was NEVER into boy bands - BTS are artists/musicians. Please wipe the western "boy band" idea from your mind when trying to compare them to anyone else making music. Also - Please check your prejudices at the door and listen with a more open mind if you continue to react to them. thank you.

@@anabhousen7159 yea, thats not telling him to do something thats requesting... police dont request they tell. and was she wrong? if you want to understand bts you SHOULD leave your prejudices at the door, theres NOTHING wrong with her comment. Ofc he doesnt have to, but anyone watching his bts reactions would prefer that as well. He said he wants to learn more and understand more, so thats not an out of pocket request to make especially as a fan of a group who always gets misunderstood and always has prejudices against them.

Glad you gave them a listen! 😊 I also initially thought that the group was too big. It didn't take long to change my mind. The very uniqueness of each member contributes to the specialness that is BTS. 💜 You might want to check out some of their solo work to get a taste of their individual styles. My favorites aren't necessarily their most popular or recent songs. I think I spotted others explaining about their military service. While all but one released solo albums after the group went on hiatus, they also had solo work while they were active as a group. Most, but not all, of the solos during the group's active years are under the BTS label while their hiatus work is under their individual names. Jin- Moon (no mv, I believe there is a live performance), Suga (aka Agust D) - Daechwita, J-Hope - More, RM (group leader) - Still Life, Jimin - Lie (watch a live performance), V - Rainy Days, Jungkook - Seven (won MTV's Song of the Summer, I believe) Group songs - ON (kinetic version), Mic Drop (Steve Aoki remix), DNA, and Fake Love. Their earlier work is more Hip-Hop. No More Dream (debut song), Danger, We Are Bulletproof pt2, Jump (live performance), and Attack on Bangtan are a few. 2:27 I think the instrument might be a Haegeum, a traditional Korean string instrument. Agust D had a song entitled Haegeum come out not too long ago. The instrument was used in that song, but the word Haegeum also has another meaning that applies to the song as well. Anyway, when I listened to a few examples of what a haegeum sounded like, I thought it sounded like the instrument used here.

I don't think that they knew how many members bts would have. With them it was pretty much fate that they are 7. The group can't exist if you remove one.

Don't take the difficult comments too personally 😅..Army (fan base) is big, and some of us are a little more passionate than others. Take your time, there's so much material, over 10 years and close to 400 songs. You're bound to find something you love, they have so many styles of music.. Listen, explore and enjoy ..😊 💜 Thank you for the reaction. Hint...because they sing mostly in Korean and have beautiful, intriguing music videos with so much going on..singing, dancing, the clothes, sets, lights, etc. it's easier to watch the first time enjoying everything, and a second time reading the English subtitles. Their lyrics often have deep and important message.
