when i first got to know her songs, i thought her vocals where very tuned, but once i got to her live performances i understood that she really sounds like that... i mean i'm sure there's effects on the record but a lot comes from her real voice, which is quite unique
Yes, my first thought was that she uses autotune to lay that distinctive effect on her vocals, not necessarily to correct the pitch. But the more I listen to it, the less I'm sure about that. Definitely a lot of post production on that as well as (maybe) heavy effect filters when she performs live, but without a good and flexible vocal foundation it wouldn't work, so props to her.
cackled at 30:19 LMAO you're so fkn funny!!! "look at me now" is def my favorite song off the album!! the fact that her vocal naturally sounds so autotune-y is so incredible to me!
Love this reaction and how in depth you go with it~ Pang’s one of my favorite albums of all time so seeing a longer video on it is so nice. Definitely will watch your other videos!
I LOVE Caroline!! PANG is a grower, I didn't like all the song at first but now I'm OBSSESED... If you really really love lyrics, but good lyrics, like poetry, you NEED to react to VÉRITÉ. She's not really experimental, but her voice is beautiful plus she's a vocalist, a very subtle one, and her LYRICS!!!! The feeling of them
and yes her lyrical content is has so much power and meaning and its honest and the production is always so incredibly well done, and vocals are really captivating honestly, stunning
I got into her music because a LOT (A LOT) of my mutuals were talking about her, after she released the MV for Door, I was just getting into more experimental music (after listening to FKA and Lorde) and she was experimental enough for me to get interested I guess hahaha. Her MV are so fun too so that helped as well. Door btw talks (among other things) about her former band Chairlift in which she worked for TEN YEARS, but I guess the project never really picked up as her solo project just did. She met a lot of people obviously, who she worked either in the production, visuals and mvs. She also got through a divorce I think a little bit before she started working on Pang, so that's why there's this inmense feeling of heartbreak in the album. I remember she said Door was originally two different songs! She also did a The Coors cover of Breathless, she performed it at Jimmy Fallon (I think?) so there's that. Thanks for reacting to this album, I was so scared you wouldn't like it hehe. My top 5 would be: 1. Look At Me Now 2. So Hot You're Hurting My Feelings 3. Ocean of Tears 4. Caroline Shut Up 5. Door
Really interesting stuff , makes a lot of sense ! I will check out the video to Door as well ! Also love your list you got there 💕 thank you for watching ! She is actually growing on me daily , even though I already liked her !
@@FernStone Fern I wanted to suggest Golden Hour by Kacey Musgrave so you can add ANOTHER album to your already long list 😅 Loooooving the content. Keep it up!!!!!!!!!♥️ Much love
I read 'Go as a dream' line as how dreams are when you first wake up. They are so tangebil and punching you in your memory, but then within seconds your memory of it starts to slip away quick but quietly, almost like your not aware of it slipping away. I think she is saying that her relationship ended so quickly but softly that it was hard to see coming. Her ex telling her to lift up her head, saying pay no attention to it and stop grasping at the intangible, just move on and forget about what we had.
omg her vocal control is in.sa.ne like WHA-?! "insomnia" is intense "ocean of tears" is amazing!!?? kind of getting a charli xcx vibe? im now hearing it and really HAIM sounding too "caroline shut up" is such a fun one and love the rock of it "SHYHMF" is soooo good
thank you for reacting!! I love this album and really like the story continuation. For instance the gate feels like and ascent and during the last song parachute she's going back down. Also during look at me now she sings about not being able to sleep as a result of heartbreak, then the next song is a song about laying awake. I don;t know I think it's a very succesful breakup album and I loved seeing your reaction
its so awesome to see someone reacting to this realm of music. I really hope you check out SOPHIES album, I think you will love it. I never really watch long videos but I love you're reactions because I can sense your genuine love of music.
I'm not entirely sure, but I feel go as a dream is about someone close to her that died. You're like a card, played by the magician, but this time you're not coming back. If you could see me now, you'd have me pick my head and go as a dream. Like astral projection, talking to a soul, The joke without a punchline and slipped through my fist lines feel like she's talking about someone who was suicidal. This is all my own interpretation though.
You should consider react to La Vita Nuova (EP) by Christine & the Queens with Coraline Polachek - the all EP with the short movie shot à l'Opéra Garnier is truly a masterpiece.
This brought the hugest smile to my face! Can't wait to see you react to some of the artists people are suggesting in the comments. If you love the experimental use of the autotune sound Pang features, Pop 2 takes this to the next level! Its called Pop 2 because it plays with the idea of being the "second comming of Pop music". Charli definitely uses extremely pop inspired melodies, but she reworks that sound into something new and exciting! SOPHIE does this as well, to a even more extreme level I'd say. Charli's producers are A.G. Cook and Sophie, two friends who joined forces with smaller artists in a effort to reclaim Pop music. They started a entire genre of music that was originally titled "PC Music", but is now known as "HyperPop". Caroline's producer was also part of that circle of friends who set out to change the underground electronic scene. Their influence on modern music has reached beyond the genre, and inspired so many young artists, some of which you will definitely end up reacting to, and allready have! Charli xcx is probably the most well known pioneer of the HyperPop sound, and I feel like she is the perfect introduction to this crazy and fun electronic world! Arca has also been involved in the circle of friends that started this all, so I'm so happy to see you've allready reacted to her! You are in for a treat!
Wow 😲 this is incredible !! This makes me so happy , Also it’s so funny because throughout the video I was saying how it was like kind of pop but experimental too .. I couldn’t put it onto one box . What you have said makes total sense ! I can’t wait to react to more ! Thanks so much for this informative and awesome comment. So happy to have put a smile on your face , the expression is mutual 😁
If you like the electronic sound of this album DEFINITELY check out Pop 2 by Charli xcx! I feel like Pop 2, Kick i, Pang, Magdalene, and Oil of every Pearls Un-insides are all essential listening for music like this! I personally find the production on Pop 2 even more exciting! Any of Charlis latest 3 albums are INCREDIBLE listens. Shes was a mainstream artists who made a jump to a super daring sound and its so cool to see how she has embraced Electronica! So yeah, Pop 2 is a must listen! Love your vids!
@@FernStone That was back in her Mainstream era before she started making electronic music. Just like Caroline and Aurora, her melodies are very pop inspired but the production is absolutely mind blowing! She also works with some of the same producers as Caroline, but I'd say she takes it to the next level. Pop 2 is quintessential Charli Xcx, so I think its best to start with that album. But listening to these artists is going to open a whole floodgate of incredible music! Seeing how you react to artists like this, I'm positive her music would really REALLY excite you! Looking forward to your reaction of Sevdaliza as well! I'm so happy you have followers with such good taste in music! I get so hyped when I see the notifications for your vids
Not sure how familiar you are with björk’s discography, but I think you would love her album Vespertine! It was released in 2001 but the production is absolutely amazing and still feels fresh today, honestly one of my favorite albums of all time. People who enjoy FKA Twigs, Arca, and Caroline Polachek tend to love this album too ! P.S. im loving your reactions! Also you’re going to love oil of every pearl’s un-insides, i cant wait!
Yas! Ocean of tears is one of the best songs of 2019 imo. Love all your reactions. You should do All Mirrors by Ángel Olsen or Titanic Rising by Weyes Blood in case u havent heard it yet :)
Have been watching all of your AURORA reactions, so I'm really happy you've done Caroline now, another of my favourites. And I'm so looking forward to future reactions, SOPHIE, Rina Sawayama, Lorde, and Florence and The Machine, wow, absolutely my taste. This was interesting as always, and I have to say the editing on this video was hilarious. (side-note: you mentioned an 80s sound, and I believe there are a few Kate Bush references throughout Caroline's discography, so I can imagine there was some inspiration from that period) If you wanted to get into any more of Caroline, there's a few places to look, though I'm sure another more knowledgeable commenter will come along at some point and have more concise info. But yeah, she was a part of a group called Chairlift before, which has a few really interesting songs, and her vocals are just as cool and interesting as they are throughout Pang. Some albums of theirs are 'Something', 'Does You Inspire You', and 'Moth'. I'd say the production is a little less fleshed out and detailed compared to Pang. But if and when you delve into that, I'd recommend the songs 'Romeo,' 'Ch-ching,' and maybe 'Polymorphing' for some classic vocal twists and turns and stuff, but there's so many more interesting ones too, so a look at the albums in full would be good. I think the song 'Get Real' has a similar rhythm and ebb and flow of 'I Give Up' on pang, which is cool! She's also gone by the name 'Ramona Lisa,' I believe, so you can find songs under that name. As for more from Pang, there's some live sessions to explore, such as at The Current, where she's performed 'So Hot You're Hurting My Feelings,' as well as 'Ocean of Tears', which I'm sure you'd like, and also 'Door' There is also a video of her performance at KEXP, with 'Go As A Dream,' 'Door,' 'So Hot You're Hurting My Feelings,' and 'Ocean Of Tears' Sorry for the long comment, but I hope you might find some of it useful.
Wow a lot of awesome information here ! Truly appreciate it . Thank you ! So glad you like the editing haha 😂 also so glad you like a lot of yeh artists I’m going to be reacting too ! That’s good news 🥰 can’t wait to check out more of Caroline’s stuff !
KEXP again ... this station is an awesome melting pot for new interesting music (as their slogan says every time 😅). It's where I also found e.g. 'London Grammar' and 'HÆLOS' and of course 'Aurora'.
A perfect example of Caroline showcasing her live vocals - that u must check out - would be the live session for WFUV of her singing the song Get Real by Chairlift (her former band)
this was a great reaction! love this album and glad you enjoyed too :) i think you’d love her interview with annie mac with radio 1 when she talks through the album in more detail
I highly recommend St Vincent's work, they are poppy but with a experimental side and she just released and album las month called Daddy's Home that is super 70 inspired
I would absolutely love if you reacted to Kacy Hill’s album Is It Selfish If We Talk About Me! Super underrated artist but I feel like you would like her style!
I loved your reaction, this album is very beautiful. i'd love to see you react to okovi album by zola jesus, it's one of the best albums i've ever heard in my life. please do it 🖤
Hey Fern, love your reactions 🥰 I'm thinking of something to recommend that you'd like, just gonna keep watching more reactions to get a feel for what you like.
@@FernStone one of my fave albums and you were right: Caroline can give herself a natural vocoder and autotune effect. It's insane, especially live. You should react to "Pop 2" by Charli XCX next. There's a song with Carooine on there. It's one of the best futuristic pop albums of all time. Put it on your list, the girlies will eat it up 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️💕
OOH something different! this'll be interesting! also actually wanted to recommend listening to VÉRITÉ and maybe exploring her discography (dedication i know i know HAHA) but she's so COOL and not enough people listen to her music ... her vocals are beautiful ( i.e. ep's/ albums >i think the two albums are quite different as she's evolved quite a bit and her first was a little more dark themed than the second / live performances are beautiful and powerful / acoustic & stripped versions coz they're amazing... are even better than the studio versions imo and really do the songs justice ... stunning) .... but thats if you end up enjoying her sound of music and everything else hehehe so I really hope you consider giving her a listen and see what you think (i personally love her stuff and especially the sounds of her latest ep "new limbs " and album "new skin" and her single "by now") 🖤🖤 LOVE THIS btw
There's also CEP (which is just her initials). She used it to release an straight-forward, exclusively ambient album. No vocals. No pop sensibilities. All made with sine waves and extremely minimal. And according to her it is more of an tool used to concentrate as she apparently didn't dump any soul into it. Which I've gotta say, I still love. I love ambient.
sorry for the spam lol just realising im constantly seeming more insane ahahaa but BUT i've noticed how quickly your channel is growing daily and literally gonna hit 1k in a day or two SO CONGRATS IN ADVANCE you're a gem!! 1K🎉🎉🎉🤸♀️🙌🙊💕
there were little parts of Caroline's vocals where i honestly thought sounded like phoebe bridgers thats so funny, and yes definitely she should be explored to here
