This is Blues Rock with a tiny sprinkle of gospel -- no doubt. Definitely a combination of all three genres. Elvis was just so good at melding these three genres together in his own style to create what became what people called and still Rock and Roll. But I'd call this Blues/Rock. The old school down and dirty southern blues he learned in Shakerag -- blended with the raw power of rock. He uses his legendary baritone then transitions into this gritty tone. Incredible range and the man was ALWAYS IN KEY. Just nobody ever was able to match him. He was God gifted ... one of a kind.
@Shon East Elvis started out in Country Western music, which is America's first original music style. Everything else grew from there, and Elvis could do it all in his own unique style.
So glad you're loving Elvis! This song was written by two R & B singer songwriters. As you watch more videos, you'll see that more often than not he is sweating. But that black leather suit was so hot they had to cut the seams to get him out of it for cleaning between tapings. A little history: Elvis learned the hard way back in '56 that he needed bodyguards, security guards and police presence at his concerts. This was after a few close calls of narrowly escaping while being chased by fans, having his clothes ripped off, having the stage torn apart making it impossible to finish the show, and even ending up in the hospital. Death threats were made throughout his career, and there were times when he wore a bullet proof vest and carried a gun in his boot when on stage. Once four men rushed the stage in Las Vegas. Security grabbed three of them, and Elvis karate kicked the fourth off the stage. And yet he was very kind to his fans. He often went to the gate at his home to talk with them and sign autographs.
There is a story here about this segment of the show. Steve Binder, director, was getting ready to go home after a long day of rehearsing for this special when he heard music coming from back stage. Steve followed the sound back to Elvis' dressing room where Elvis, a few of his friends and a few session musicians were having a jam session which Elvis was always very fond of doing with his friends! Just an acoustic guitar, an empty box being used as a drum, an empty beer bottle served as a cow bell and just about anything that people could use to make sound with and it sounded just incredible! Steve thought that this is exactly what people need to see about Elvis! This is the REAL Elvis! Engaging, fun loving and his essence just raw and untamed! Steve thought at that moment that he had to have a "Jam Session" segment just like this in the show! The segment we saw was unrehearsed, only a list of possible songs to sing as Elvis couldn't remember all of the songs he had recorded, but it was up to Elvis to decide which songs to sing. There was to be no electric instruments, although Scotty More sneaked his electric guitar on stage. It wasn't long before Elvis said to Scotty; "Hey man, lets' switch axes!" and that is how Elvis ended up with Scotty Mores electric guitar. This was my favorite segment of the show!
Elvis said himself in is singing it was a mixture of Gospel, country, ? Blues. Elvis is and always will be the greatest he sang from his soul & could sing anything magnificent gift our beautiful Elvis forever 👑👑
Elvis always makes you want to sing along with him ? And dance the night away. What chrisma our Elvis as , what a man never again will we see anyone like our stunning Elvis 👑👑
This was 1968 Comeback Special. From 1956 Elvis could not walk in public. He had bodyguards from the fifties. Even barbed wire at a show couldn't stop Elvis fans wanting to touch him. They had to leave their musical instruments on stage and run. Even a stage was overturned.
It was his 68 comeback special they wanted the taping to look like a jam session. If you want to see the best preformance of all time check out if i can dream from this special hes in a white suit . It was his tribute to MLK and Robert Kennedy . Their death hit him hard
Rock/soul/blues/gospel -- He had such a range and power of emotion, he could sing anything! I was blessed to go to 2 Elvis concerts. NOTHING can compare to seeing Elvis live. Love your reaction and message.
This performance is from The Singer Special titled Elvis in 1968. After people saw it on TV, it was referred to Elvis 68 Comeback Special. The reason being, from 1960 until this show, Elvis was mostly just involved in doing 3 movies a yr, with albums from those movies released. He wasn’t having many hit songs on Billboard. This show had all the music critiques and newspapers, saying Elvis was better than ever, and plus he looked so great at age 33. The entire show is worth watching, as every song is great, including the gospel performance. He ended the show wearing the white suit while singing If I Can Dream, in honor of Martin Luther King. I’m sure those chosen to sit around him were instructed on how to behave. The small audience and intimate atmosphere, was unique for an Elvis performance. Elvis wrapped up his movie obligation in 1969 with the movie Change of Habit, with Mary Tyler Moore as his co star. I hope you watch some more of this show.
The 68 come back special was in front of a live TV audience and not a big arena. Elvis had been doing movies for years and had not performed in front of a live audience for seven or eight years. There were approximately 200 people in the audience and several sessions where they would sing a few songs and then bring another audience in on the next session. He would then go on tour in bigger venues and sell out every concert for the next several years.
Hi guys, I just subbed, This was a sound of Blues and gospel, and yes we love Elvis forever and he's been gone 45 yrs and he is still as popular today as he wad then, I thank you for helping us keep his memory alive for all time . Would you react to Elvis singing Walk a mile in my shoes and Just Pretend, both beautiful and different songs. Thanks Lori Sutton TCB 1935 🤺🤺🤺🤺🤺⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡
Great reaction - this special is iconic. You should check out what now my love live in Honolulu (rehearsal show). First satellite show to the world 1.5B viewers - another iconic performance. Man this guy has charisma and a great voice. Fun fact also: he is the only singer to be inducted to the main 5 music halls of fame (gospel, rock and roll, rhythm and blues, country and rockabilly). Love your reactions 😀😀
One of the first unplugged shows (only Elvis has an electric guitar). Billy Idol (big in the 80') recreated the boxing ring (that is what Elvis is on here) in a music video , 20 years later . Elvis influenced more people as anyone else. BIG ELVIS fans ; Milly Cyrus, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Freddy Mercury, Bruno Mars Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin), John Lennon, Michael Poulsen (Wollbeat) + many more I can't remember right now !!
🎊New Sub here!!! Just ran into you.. Love your Elvis Playlist Elvis has blues, soul, county, rhythm and... Poke-salad Annie has Funk in it .. 😂 Take a deal breath and.. Hear it again, you'll see.. You guys are great!!
He was petrified here, it was his first time in front of an audience albeit small, after making all his films, I think 31. He thought he would bomb and when the time came to leave his dressing room he said "I can't do this" He had to be coaxed out of his dressing room by the producer of the show. At the beginning of the show he was so frightened he wouldn't be good enough. The rest is history.... All the girls must have been warned not to stand, reach for, or touch him, or go on the stage. In one of his songs here he sits on the floor on the edge of the stage, surrounded by young ladies and one tentively asks him if she can put her hand on his leg, he nods and she does, wonderful to watch. LONG LIVE THE KING ❤️
If you visit Graceland. Elvis loved cars and also had motor cycles. His collection is on display at the museum. His pink Cadillac and his last car was purple are there also.
I remember on a previous reaction you didn't know how to pronounce Elvis's hometown. It's Two-pa-low!!! Tupelo!! Please check out Elvis's gospel songs, it will bring chills!! He won two grammies only for his gospel work!!!
Since you're early on in your Elvis journey, I think you would enjoy reacting to this: Elvis Presley - Music Evolution (1954-1977) (7:32). It's a series of videoclips that will give you a great sense of his versatility. And it has no copyright! Another good introduction to Elvis is: Elvis Presley's Dance Moves (2:52).
"Lord above he knows I love you, it was he who brought me through. When my way was dark at night he would shine his brighted light when i was trying to get to you!" great line
Elvis was gospel Raven cell country western and rock ‘n’ roll put together that’s why Elvis is the king of everything you know what I mean but a boom but a bang
Since you like the "Church" side of Elvis, you really need to watch "He Touched Me," which is a documentary about the gospel songs and faith life of Elvis. He truly loved the Saviour, Jesus Christ, and loved singing praises to Him more than anything else!
He has 3 Gospel albums and 3 Gospel Grammys. If you haven't heard any u might want to..I suggest Crying in the chapel..Take My Hand Precious Lord..and I Believe..Thanks ✌️
The discussion of his voice has a little bit of God is exactly right. His singing is how he praises the creator, just like how a bird praises God by flying. It is the blues.
Family,. I just subscribed. I've seen 3 videos of Elvis you reacted to. I love your reactions. 💕💕💕🎶🎶🎶. If you want to really see his moves. Suspicious minds. Live in Vegas 🙏. Believe me there are as many men in the audience as women👍👍. I've seen Elvis. 3 times in Houston. . he's awesome 👍 I💕💕💕💕
This black suit was from a TV special he did. He retire from Show business but he missed his fans so much. The song he did in the white suit was from that TV special too. The song about Martin Luther King song too.
With Elvis, you get 100 different styles of Music. Looks, moments. Like most artists, once you've seen them you've more or less see what you'll see again.
Elvis was cool. A man’s man but his looks and sex appeal drove the girls crazy. He had a different hair and clothes style that teenagers copied. He was the first to incorporate different genres in his music. The whole 1968 comeback special was fantastic. The black leather suit was very hot and the lights made him sweat. He did two concerts that day and it was edited for the concert.
Elvis had a never ending search for God. He studied many religions. He read man’s different bibles. He even wore an Ancient Egyptian Ankh. I pray he’s in his Lords hands. God bless you both 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Elvis had his body guards in the studio n also a couple were on stage playing with him..Just imagine that he was so nervous he wasn't coming out..He was 15 minutes late coming on stage because the producer had to speak to him about just go out n say hello n if u feel u can't do it then leave..
Some people maaaan, just win Super Jackpot in lottery of Life/Genetics. It's just unfair what this man was blessed with, Swagger, Charisma, Looks, Charm, Funny, Tall deary deary me. 👍
If you like how Elvis reacted to his fans check out his 1970 love me tender live also after Elvis used the black leather suit he had his famous jumpsuits designed the black leather suit made him sweat 💦 and would split during the performance.✌️♥️🙏🙏
Elvis did a couple of gospel albums. I think he went to black churches as a kid. I think he grew up in black neighborhoods. This was one of his earliest hit. He was doing basic rock blues.
He actually did two shows for this special. After the first show, the audience left and a second audience was let in. So, yeah, he may have been performing for awhile at this point. They edited using both shows, picking which parts they wanted to air on television for the special.
elvis didnt need bodyguards, if guys attacked him, hed use karate on them.. if girls attacked him, hed kiss them.. his crew was just there when he wanted some backup singers heheh
