King Diamond has all type of voices, this particular song is a rare example of him using exclusively higher pitch. Usually he is much more dynamic in his vocals.
@@BisscuteReacts Yes, I am pretty sure on the subject. I was a big fan of KD in 80-s and listened to his epic line of 5 albums (86, 87, 88, 89, 90). This track ("Halloween") is on his 1st solo album after departure from Mercyful Fate (band), released in 1986. It has nice memorable heavy guitar riffs (very much in the style of Mercyful Fate) and can be described as a "hit" track due to its relatively simple structure (compared to other very complex KD song writing). I truly believe that this one is not the best introduction into King Diamond legacy. I am pretty sure you should check put any (I mean any) track from his concept albums which followed later including 90`s "The Eye". On other hand I also truly believe that all the other albums of KD that were recorded after "The Eye" do not match his brilliant masterpiece shriek of 4 albums (87-88-89-90).
Normally King Diamond is switching from falsetto to normal voice back and forth in his songs. This is one of the few songs where he almost exclusively sings in his falsetto voice. He also does a lot of different creepy voices in his songs. It's so awesome. I recomment checking out his whole catalogue as well as his other band Merciful Fate.

I love King Diamond. He is my favorite singer. Those highs are really him. I’ve seen him live for the first time back in November of 2019. He sounded like he was in the studio. A phenomenal show. I highly recommend sleepless nights next. At the end of the video, and yes that is his real voice
King Diamond (real name: Kim Bendix Petersen) is from Denmark... currently 66 yrs old. He was involved in numerous rock bands in Denmark since the 70's... But it was in the early 80's when he formed the heavy metal band Mercyful Fate that King Diamond had truly arrived. One of their early fans was Metallica's drummer Lars Ulrich (who is from Denmark)... another was Kerry King, guitarist of Slayer. Mercyful Fate was controversial for using satanic themes in their lyrics, which made them a target of religious groups... Their 2 major albums were 'Melissa' (1983) and "Don't break the Oath" (1984)... King Diamond was using kabuki makeup like the original Kiss on stage. But the band split up after guitarist Hank Shermann wanted to make 'funk' rock music... King Diamond launched his solo band w/ Mercyful Fate guitarist Michael Denner and (late) bassist Timi Hansen... Guitarist Andy LaRocque joined w/ drummer Mikkey Dee (who would join Motorhead in 1992, and then the Scorpions in 2016). King Diamond released his debut album 'Fatal portrait' in 1986, half the album had songs that depicted a ghost story... His success came w/ the 2nd album 'Abigail' (1987) which had every song depicting a horror story about a cursed unborn child 'Abigail LeFey' being reborn in her bloodline after she and her mother were killed in 1777 when the previous Count LeFey discovered that his wife had been unfaithful. Band members changed for the next album... Denner & Hansen left. King Diamond released his biggest record "Them" (1988) which depicted another horror story about a boy named 'King' who lives in haunted family house called 'Amon' w/ his mother and sister 'Missy', and their 'Grandma' comes home after being in a mental asylum. The next album 'Conspiracy' was the sequel where 'King' is an adult and has inherited 'Amon' and 'Them'. His next album 'The Eye' was not a concept story, but still had horror elements... but label problems would disband King Diamond until 1995. In 1993, Mercyful Fate reunited and released 'In the shadows'... w/ guitarists Hank Shermann & Michael Denner returning... they released several albums in the 90's before disbanding again in 2000 - 'Time' (1994), 'Into the unknown' (1996), 'Dead again' (1998) and '9' (1999)... Guitarist Mike Wead replaced Michael Denner in 1997. Kind Diamond returned in 1995 w/ guitarist Andy LaRocque from the original band... 'The spider's lullabye' was not a concept story album, but he did return to that horror story format w/ 'The Graveyard' (1996)... 'Voodoo' (1998)... 'House of God' (2000)... In 2002, he made a sequel album 'Abigail II: The Revenge' ... which was quite a bit creepier than the original. 'The puppet master' (2003) was the next concept story about dolls being made w/ real human eyes that had the souls of the people trapped in them... 'Give me your soul, please' (2007) was his last record for a while. In 2010, King Diamond underwent heart surgery and was inactive for years... he finally made his comeback on tour in 2015. In 2022, Mercyful Fate announced a reunion tour w/ King Diamond & guitarist Hank Shermann... Mike Wead was kept on guitar and Bjarne T. Holm on drums w/ bassist Joey Vera. They claim they have a new album in the works...Mike Wead is also in the King Diamond band. Meanwhile, King Diamond is also working on his next concept album - 'The Institute' w/ guitarist Andy LaRocque co-writing the songs. The Spider's Lullabye is highly underrated. Some people dislike it because they had a different drummer in there. Yet they've remastered it. It's never bothered King or he would've had Mickey Dee re-record the drums and put out a new edition.

The backing vocalist is his wife Livia Zita and her vocals are usually not out in front of the mix but she sings in a near doubling of King Diamonds voice to add texture and depth to certain parts of songs and chorus'. Even at age 66 King's voice is still as strong as ever and Livia adds another element to the songs as some songs her vocals are heard when she and King sing in different pitches.

Yes, that is his voice lol. The King is a legend, he is known for his high falsetto! This man has had triple-by-pass heart surgery and now at 66 yrs old still sounds amazing and puts on the best shows. All his albums are concept albums that tell a story and are horror themed. I've been listening to the King for nearly 30 yrs now and the albums 'Abigail' and 'The Graveyard' are my favorite! I last seen him live in 2014, he was about 58, and sounded as good as ever! He has inspired bands like Metallica and Slayer, in fact, Metallica has a whole medley / compilation of his Merciful Fate songs on their Garage Days covers album, which King has also performed live w/ Metallica. Fun fact: This dude fathered a child at 61 yrs old! You should do an entire 1 hr + long reaction to the entire Abigail album and read the lyrics along w/ it. That story is sooo good and you will become the most legendary reactor of all time for doing it! ;)

You could make it fun and do it as a live stream and request donations of x amount to move to the next song. We'd make sure you got through the whole album. If anything, I'd love a 20 min vid of you just reading the lyrics to the album and telling your thoughts on the story. One thing is for sure, if you react to more, always do live concert videos, it's a must w/ KD. You picked a great vid to start, all the somewhat more recent vids, like the Filmore concert from 2015 (as opposed to old footage from the 80's and 90's) is the best because of the high quality HD vids. Ah, I’ve loved this song for years. Found the studio version online a long time ago. Have never heard it done live. Always surprised such high notes go over well in a very masculine genre like metal. Still, a crazy-wide vocal range is always impressive.
King Diamond puts on a phenomenal live show. I was lucky enough to be in the audience for this specific show and I left believing that every young rock band should go see King Diamond in concert to learn not just how to put on a concert, but to put on a visual show for the crowd. I also very much prefer this live version to the original recording from the 80's.

Hes known as the stephen king of metal, he does the voices in his stories/concept albums of almost all the characters. i believe you'll want to react to Sleepless Nights, Welcome Home, Abigail, Them and The Eye from the same Songs For The Dead show at the Fillmore in philadelphia. And yea i believe his wife Livia can't be heard via the background vocals much of the time for whatever reason. Great reaction btw.
My favorite song from KD is probably "Evil" from the first Mercyful Fate album, he uses his high, mid and growl voices in it and it is musically amazing.
This song is off Fatal Portrait. The whole album is great as it tells a story. You may also like the The Candle or Dressed in White off this album as well.
You should check out Volbeat's Room 24 featuring King Diamond outside the other recommendations you have received. King Diamond is really a unique and interesting singer, and the music is high musicality. I think my favourite King Diamond songs are At the Graves and Arrival and for Merciful Fate it is Satan's Fall, Gypsy and Don't Break the Oath.
I've always had trouble getting around that high pitched vocal, but the guy has killer range and when he takes it down a couple notches he really rocks then. the band is really good to. by the late 80's early 90's this style was well on the way out. instead of king diamond I was jamming Metallica, Sepultura and Ozzy Osbourne.
King uses his voice to great effect...going from shrieks and highs only dogs can hear to very low growls and deeper registers. It's quite taxing but he's been doing this since the mid to late 1970's and lately, he's been sounding incredible!
I guess this is one of those rare instances where I got to share this reaction here too lol I'm getting more into their discography lately and this was my first time seeing it from here cause RU-vid was recommending it. But yes King Diamonds voice is out of this realm lol started in the 80s and was kind of pioneers in the heavier Power metal speed metal genre with Judas priest etc . Him and Rob Halfords vocals are like top God metal tier IMO even though I haven't heard alot of King diamond/Mercyful Fate. He's got a wide range especially from what I'm seeing from his early stuff . His deep range is interesting ( especially with his speaking voice on the mic lol reminded me of one of those 1940s commentary people on old horror movies. Almost sounds like the narrator guy in Michael Jackson thriller video is what I get from lol ) but his highs are freaking impressive. His shows that I've seen on RU-vid practically nearly sound the same as some songs from like 30 years ago lol and he's reaching into his 60s and still kicks ass . He doesn't look that old either lol Edit : yeah after watching your reaction yeah I think I just added this song as one of my favourites so far by him lol . This songs riffs are nasty and just how long KD can go with his high vocals are insane in this live performance

For me the one and only Halloween song is by Helloween, from the masterpiece Keeper of the Seven Keys part I, a masterpiece 13 minutes song. I suggest you to listen to it.
The backup singer is his wife, I have never actually heard her even at the live shows. I sometimes wonder if her mic is even on. Before marrying her, he always rejected the idea of singing with anyone else.

I would suggest you check out Abigail, Them and The Eye. He has alot great songs but it`s some that sticks out for me, A Mansion in Darkness, is definitely my favorite King Diamond song, , Sleepless nights, Twilight symphony, Tea, The eye of the witch and The Candle or you can check out Is that you Melissa ? and Shadows from his other band Mercyful Fate`s album In the shadows. King Diamond has big catalogue and a lot of great songs.

IDK if anyone pointed out yet, but a lot of King Diamond's albums are conmceptual - the lyrics follow a story. The albums Them and Conspiracy are one story, Abigail I and II are another one. When you read the lyrics and listen to music you get a movie flashing before your eyes, amazing stuff. All hail the King!
