After shooting this video the director wanted her to do it again. Her guitar player told him to F-off and use what you got, I'm not letting you put her through that again and took her out of there.
When they made this video, Jennifer was dealing with a breakup and she broke down in tears while filming and they just kept the cameras rolling. Her tears and emotions were genuine and real. I saw them in concert shortly after this came out, and it tugged on my heart when she performed this
I saw her in the first concert she sang it in... he kept telling her he was coming back and the divorce would stop but it was a lie...100% pure emotions.... that concert every eye was filled with tears...
Omg people it was acting, she stated that in multiple interviews. It’s disgusting how people will just make up whatever lie that will get them some attention. Grow up.
I divorced in 2006 and three years into being a single dad I heard this song the first time. I had to pull over. The moment you realize “I don’t have to live this way” and just the flood of relief and joy. Love your channel and enjoy your selections.
I got divorced that same year. My ex had a baby 8 1/2 months after she left and the baby was born on the same day or divorce was final....... February 14th. I listened to this song on loop for about a year.
Sorry for your heart break. You don't ever have to live that way its good to hear from man perspective. Just know your not the only one going thru this too
This song is actually from the perspective of the "other woman" of whom the guy was having his affair with. “Even though the person who is cheating might think he or she is getting away with something, they know they aren’t living their highest truth,” Jennifer Nettles says. “And they wouldn’t be in the situation if they were just happy-go-lucky in the first place. Nobody is happy in this situation.”
Martina McBride has a song called Whatever You Say with quite an appropriate line that goes: I know you can hear me, but I'm not sure you're listening.
I love the way she starts off asking him to stay with her and by the end realizes that she doesn't have to live this way and tells him to stay with his wife. She's realizing that she deserves someone who will give himself to her completely. I'm always talking to my daughter about how she doesn't need a man in her life to be happy and, if she is with someone she needs him to give himself to her as much as the other way around.
If you like female country singers...would love to see you react to Miranda Lambert's Tin Man. It's an emotional one too. Love seeing your reactions. You're always so honest and I love that.
Reba McEntire did a song called “Whoever’s In New England” before this about a wife who is being cheated on. So, Jennifer Nettles did Stay from the other woman’s perspective. Really in a cheating situation nobody is happy.
She was going through a divorce, when they did this video. Her emotions were raw and they left it in the video, which made it more powerful. Also, the song is about the other woman, who is asking a adulterer to leave his wife. However as you know during the song she becomes stronger and realizes that he is using both her and the one he is with, and in the end she is telling him to stay with his wife because she is done being used.
Thing about it though, her divorce isn’t what caused her to cry. She said it was a personal friend who was going through a cheating relationship and that’s what caused her to breakdown!
The pain is real, if I'm not mistaken she was going through something similar when they recorded this video. It took everything for her to hold it together, to the point she almost said "F*** it, I can't do it" until Kristian (the guitarist) told her to tell her story
I hope she wasn't going through something TOO MUCH like this, because the woman in the song is the other woman. The entire point of the song is the woman realizing she's on the wrong side of things. Note the different way the word "stay" is used in each part of the song. It's the same word, but being used to mean the opposite result (stay with "me" to stay with "her").
This is not personal experience; the director asked her to remember a painful moment. I believe she used her divorce as inspiration for the tears. The director then kept pushing her for more until the guitarist got angry and put a stop to it. It's a brilliant performance.
@@Mark_MOORE_VFL no it would be personal experience if she was the other woman. I didn't say not personal, I said personal experience referencing the lyrics.
@@Mark_MOORE_VFL Jennifer has said she did not live this story. Her husband wasn’t cheating, but they were going through a rough divorce. The song was inspired by a song by Reba.
I think she was going through a divorce when she recorded this and she struggled through this video but she did it. If you like female country singers, I recommend that you watch Martina McBride's "Concrete Angel". She has a beautiful voice and tells a true story about her sister and niece.
This is my favorite song done by these two. Happy to see you react to a wonderful singer like Jennifer Nettles. Love your reaction. Stay safe and say hi to Lucky!
Yeah, I totally understand how you felt about this song. I was in a situation where I didn't know I was the other woman. And yep! I knew I deserved more! Definitely should check out their other music to help change your mood after watching this beautiful but heartbreaking song. "Stuck Like Glue" "All I Wanna Do" "Love Your Baby Girl" All very lovely songs!
Please give your self a treat and watch her singing I can’t unlove you.Equally heart wrenching she has the most powerful voice in Country music if not all music ,simply exquisite.
She was going through a divorce at the time this was filmed and there had been allegations of cheating on his part. Even though this song was from the "other woman's" perspective, her emotions were real and the tears fell naturally. The other half of Sugarland, Christian Bush, stopped the producer from making her do another take when she was clearly overwhelmed by her emotions. A song about the cheated on wife coming out the other side is Shania Twain's song called Life's About to Get Good. A little back story, Shania was married to producer Mutt Lange in 1993 and in 2010 they divorced after it was revealed that Mutt (perfect name) had been having an affair with Shania's best friend who was also married at the time. After the divorce, Shania's friend's husband who was equally shattered by the affair and Shania began a supportive friendship that resulted in them falling in love and getting married. This song was written about that time. As the best selling female artist in country music and one of the best selling music artists of all time, she is so under reacted to. She has many great songs in her catalogue to chose from.
Her name is Jennifer Nettles. She used the memory of her grandmother's funeral for the tears. His name is Christian Bush. They aren't married just in the band together. His grandfather owns Bush's beans
“God’s Will,” “Concrete Angel” and “Anyway” by Martina McBride are LIFE CHANGING SONG’S!! If you have a daughter, “I’m my daughter’s eyes” will make you cry, but they are happy tears. It affected me so much, as a single Mom, I chose it to be played at my funeral. Martina McBride is such an amazing singer. YOU HAVE TO REACT!! Sending great vibes right back to you!
I love the journey all reactors go on watching this, including you!! Loved your reaction!! Edit: Women don't have to share real men!! I've been in the position that this song was written from when I was a young adult and it was a great lesson to learn so young because it's SO IMPORTANT!!
Your advice and reassurance at the end of this video...... simply excellent...... I can also relate........ I guess we just live and learn.......from the pain..... Nicely done........💖
She recorded this the day after she had received her final divorce papers. In reality she was the wife who was cheated on, though she sings the song from the perspective of the “other woman”; but the pain was still fresh and raw evoked by this song!
I am a father of a broken girl and your reaction to sugarland stay was perfect. And the personal insight and advice made me cry for my daughter. But you get it and I am a subscriber of yours from now on
Yes it was a very personal story for her, and after she broke down during recording it, the guitarist told her she didn’t have to do it again- that first take was enough.
Jennifer Nettles wrote the song Stay in response to an old Reba McIntire song "Whoever's in New England". Jennifer wanted to write the song from the perspective of the "other woman" when they filmed the video, Jennifer was going through a divorce so it was a very personal experience for her.
Kudos for catching the flip at the end. Almost every reactor I've seen react to this song missed it or missed the point of the song entirely. Subscribed to you just for that catch :) This song was written before everything happened, but Jennifer had recently divorced her husband for cheating when this video was recorded. She was kind of a mess. After a couple of takes, Christian, her guitarist, shuffled her out of the session telling the producers he hoped they had what they needed but he wasn't willing to watch Jennifer break down any more. So, the pain here is real.
Excellent reaction, so hard to see such pain. Her voice is amazing. Please look at Ingred Andress video from the CMA Awards last night. Great song, great voice and true emotion.
Hey G, you are funny af! Don’t let ANYONE OR ANYTHING stop you being you. You’re the only reactor that I come to and watch every second of your videos. You may not be everyone’s cup of tea but you sure are mine. ❤
I love how strong you are!!!! You can tell how much you've grown as a person. That is a beautiful thing, seeing the strong woman you have become! Bravo Gitana and Merry Christmas 😘❤️🤗🤗🤗🤗
Other female country artists I think you might like (with my personal song recommendations lol) Martina McBride - Independence Day Trisha Yearwood - In Another's Eyes (with Garth Brooks), and also throw in Georgia Rain Lee Ann Womack - I Hope You Dance Dixie Chicks - Traveling Soldier Jeannie C Riley - Harper Valley PTA Reba McEntire - Fancy Just a few to start haha. Enjoy seeing your reactions and hope you're doing well!
Sugarland is an American country music duo founded in Atlanta, Georgia, consisting of singer-songwriters Jennifer Nettles (lead vocals) and Kristian Bush (vocals, guitar, mandolin). The group was founded in 2002 by Nettles and Bush with Kristen Hall (vocals, guitar).
Theyre a great band, saw them play at the Country2Country festival in Glasgow back in 2018. Had some drinks with the guitarist, Kristin, in the hotel bar after the show. You shod have a listen to "It Happens" and "Down To Mississippi"
She was going through a divorce, her spouse was cheating on her, but she decided to write this song from the other woman's perspective. Very empathetic. The tears and emotion were very real. They almost stopped shooting at the behest of the guitarist, who is now her husband and father of her children
And by the way her live performance of this at some award show where she legit broke down on stage is legit one of if not my favorite live performances to see
My favorite female country singer. She is amazing and versatile no matter what she sings. She’s even starred on Broadway. Powerhouse voice but still has her Georgia drawl. ❤️
Sugarland is my favorite country duo. They aren't a couple, more like brother and sister even though they are not related at all. Jennifer wrote this song way before it was recorded by Sugarland as a response to Reba's "Whoever is in New England". I have some solo recordings where she is debuting it live at the bar her first husband managed. She wanted to write a song from the other woman's perspective. However, by the time they made the video, Jennifer's first marriage was breaking up. Kristian, the guitarist, who is just the nicest guy in the world in my opinion, was so upset and mad at the director that he almost stopped filming when Jennifer started to cry. You can see it in his face in some of the scenes, that intensity of do not mess with my bestie. Love the song and if you want a song by them, you might want to try "Babe" off their new album Bigger which features Taylor Swift.
Jennifer Nettles and her angelic voice. You can't help but to cry once you understand the song. Nice that she finally steps up and makes the choice for herself.
They started as a trio. Baby Girl was the first song I remember hearing from them. Jennifer Nettles also did a duet with Jon Bon Jovi called Who Says You Can't Go Home. You should check them out.
I was one of many to suggest this song and I'm so glad that not only have you listen to the song, but found the group Sugarland. This is very much so a personal thing for the singer, Jennifer Nettles, the reason she wrote this song was because she had recently found out that her husband had an affair and during the recording of this video she was going through a really nasty divorce with her husband and that pain and anguish and raw emotion you see on her face and you hearing her voice it is all 100% real. The song was written from the point of view of the other woman or mistress, because Jennifer couldn't help but wonder how The other woman felt knowing that she was the other woman and in love with someone who didn't love her back. And don't worry Gitana, I shed a few tears every time I hear this song. Great reaction. Hope you and your family are safe and well, from one of your many faithful Gitanos.
I have listened to Sugarland since they emerged. Jennifer has a power house voice, and I have always liked this song. I am sitting here bawling my eyes out because this song hits home right now. I’ve gotten involved with a man who has a woman at home. I didn’t know this until recently and after I had done and fell in love. It’s hard only having the person you love part time to no time. I sometimes get his evenings, but when he goes when she calls my heart breaks a little more. He keeps telling me he’s gonna leave her, but at this point I don’t believe it. I feel used and so ashamed of myself. I haven’t gotten strong enough yet to do what I need to. He really just needs to stay
From what I remember, she DID NOT experience this situation herself. They did a ton of takes when they were recording the song, it was a long day and everyone was getting tired and of course just singing the words to this song triggers an emotional response, so it was taking a toll on her. They thought they had finished but someone suggested they do one more take and in this last take Jennifer Nettles completely broke down. After discussing it they decided that the emotions she displayed were exactly what they wanted in the video and so they used that last take (for the most part). Of course, we have all experienced heartache and there is no telling what memories this song may have brought back, it doesn't have to be the exact experience that song it speaking to.
Hi Gitana! Like I mentioned in my comment to your post previewing this video, this is definitely a tough one to get through! No one should have to go through that much pain, but, I am glad that Jennifer chose to share it with everyone. It was a brave decision and I'm willing to bet that it helped aid in the healing process for her. Look forward to your next video! 😃
Jennifer Nettles is a marvelous singer and very talented actress. He is married, and she is divorced, they split for awhile then got back together, have not heard anything about them for a long time.
Great reaction , this song really brings out your emotions the way you said country music does. I think you can tell a lot about people by the way they react to country music more than other genres, like a good look into there soul. I hope you try Patsy Cline, Sweet Dreams, Crazy, I fall to piece's. THANK YOU. LOVE Y'ALL!!
Her name is Jennifer Nettles. Not sure if his name. The group started off as a trio, with another lady in the group. She definitely has that country twang in her voice. She did a song with Jon Bon Jovi, you can’t go back, think. It is a pretty good song
I used to live in her hometown....if i'd known someone was dragging he through this shit .....i would have taught him what he needed to know and worked to put her on the throne she deserved , i'm 70 and live alone with my pitbull and look back on a life populated by broken souls
Beauuuuutiful reaction Gitana... you never cease to amaze me. Next: Front woman Melody Cristea of Liliac (Lil-EE-ack) is waiting for your beautiful reaction to the song called "Sail Away" a original and ballad. You won't be disappointed. Enjoy and become a Fang!! :)
That song and especially the video hits you right in the feels. I love the raw emotion by Jennifer and how she’s hurting, begs him to stay with her, but develops strength as the song progresses until she tells him to stay away. This topic may be uncomfortable for some but Country tells it like it is and if there’s any emotion that you’re dealing with, this genre will bottle those feelings up and make music that will hopefully help you. Great songs along the lines of this one, about infidelity, realizing your mistakes, or even getting the courage to break free from a damaging relationship are All These Years by Sawyer Brown; Promises, Reasons I Cheat, and Hard Rock Bottom of Your Heart by Randy Travis; It’s Your Call by Reba McEntire; and You Were Mine by the Dixie Chicks. Man, I’d love for you to react to those songs!!! Thank you, we appreciate what you’re doing and for taking our requests!
It is impossible to watch this video without tearing up, I should know, I have tried at least 100 times. lol. I'm a sentimental guy. I don't like seeing beautiful people in pain.
They started out with 3 members but one left... This is something she personally went thru. The guy is her best friend/guitar player.... While filming this sing he stopped playing and went to hug her because she lost it. Its a great song that still gets me at times. They have so many great songs.
I was in this situation with a girl doing this to me and I finally left, I then met someone else and I loved this girl but things started to get rough and in my Absence she was heart broken not having me in her life and Over Dosed last week and I will never get to hold her again. This song brings up so much in me and all the guilt I carry.
Find a way to let go of the guilt. Guilt could be one of many, many reasons she overdosed. So clearly this is not a path you want to go down. She may have many underlying issues which may have helped lead to the problems in your relationship. While at the same time, the same issues may have led to her inability to cope w the relationship being over or the underlying issues in itself. If she was previously an addict even long ago, it stunts your development, your maturity, personal growth. Therefore a break up as an adult w adult consequences ( housing, bills, family, kids) is being dealt w by someone who is mentally equivalent to the child that started abusing. Once you move from using to abusing, you stop maturing. She may have verbally lashed out or taken actions blaming you, but she did not overdose because of anger at you. Guilt, shame, remorse is far more likely to be the cause. So dont allow yourself to carry that w you. We all make mistakes, we are flawed, we can be better. Being better in one way will be learning from this, growing. You don't have to be cold, or not mourn her. Obviously no need to speak I'll but your not responsible for her well being. Your responsible for yours.
Jennifer Nettles was the wife who had a cheating husband. What a twist it was to hear her sing this from the perspective of the "other woman." The woman is a beautiful artist, a talented writer, and has a voice that cuts into your soul.
Here is a recommendation for you, In 2009 Sugarland released a Christmas album, Titled "Gold and Green". My favorite song from that was "Little Wood Guitar", you may not be able to react to it here but it is a great song and worth a listen. There are songs that you can find videos of one is the classic "I'm Getting Nuttin' for Christmas". Jennifer Nettles voice is just so special she one of those artists that from the first note you know exactly who it is.
The really sad part of this is the fact that she was going through all of this in her real life. Had to stop taping often so she could get herself back together. They had to cut out some of her language also. She wrote this song as part of her recovery.
I love Jennifer's voice Sugarland is awesome they're one of my favorites. You should react to "baby girl" and "stuck on you." I got picked on for being short so I feel you girl. But my mom told me somebody picks on you for being short look them in the eye and tell them I'm tall enough for my feet to touch the ground.❤️💚☘️
Great words for people to hear G. Very true so very very true. Sugarland started out as a trio. Their third decided she liked writing etc but not performing in concerts and left. Jennifer nettles and Kristian bush have been together since and write much of their material. In the us she was the host of a a Christmas special for years and has done Broadway. Her voice is amazing and when they harmonize WOW. Other songs I like by then are baby girl, something more, settlin’, already gone, and want to.
She MUST be a great singer for you to cry for a side chick. LOL! I suggested this when you first started doing country. I knew you would cry! Doug has a message for you on Instagram. XO
Jennifer Nettles is one of the top female country stars. Extremely talented. She hosted the Country Music Christmas Specials for 10 years. You might search RU-vid for her duet with Idena Menzel singing Frozen. Several whole shows are available on RU-vid and you would enjoy them. Try her singing a tribute to Brooks & Dunn, their song Red Dirt Road. Be sure to watch the whole thing.
I know this song so well from many years of being a fan, knew you would end up in tears. Waited for that moment at 10:16 when you caught the shift. Your real reactions are why I follow your channel.
when I watched this video for the first time I have never felt the need to give a complete stranger a hug nor have I ever felt the absolute hatred for someone I did for the man to make this poor woman cry
A great deep song. She sang that song from the other woman's viewpoint as her husband cheated, and they divorced. Try a listen to Brooks and Dunn's song "Believe". It's also a true story about the lead singer's childhood relationship with an older neighbor and the lessons he passed on to him. It's a beautiful video. Thank you and you will relate to it. George
This pulls on my heart strings too. I love country music for the story it tells. ( mind you, most country is: A. Party!! B. Falling in love C. Falling out of love ) It just is....
Sugarland are amazing! Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush often together, but this song was actually just written by Jennifer and won the CMA for song of the year, the first time SOTY was written by a solo female in about 30 years. I'd recommend all of their music, but in particular "babe" or "tonight" or "down in Mississippi", and Jennifer has some amazing solo work, "unlove you" , "this angel" and "jealousy" are among my favourites. But tbh, you can't go wrong with any sugar land or JNett stuff really.
IJENNIFER NETTLES HAS SUCH A UNIQUE POWERFUL VOICE AND EVERY NOTE FILLED WITH EMOTION AND THIS GIRL DOES NOT STAND STILL ON THE STAGE , SHE IS CONSTANT MOTION , ALL PLEASING ITS LIKE GETTING A TWOFER YOU GET TO HEAR HER AND YOU GET TO WATCH HER , CHECK OUT , DOWN IN MISSISSIPPI AND UP TO NO GOOD, LIVE, GREAT SONG ITS LIKE AN ANTHEM TO WIVES AND LOVERS EVERYWHERE ALSO THEY DO A CUT CALLED MOTHER , NOW THIS SONG "MOTHER" WILL PULL A TEAR OUT OF YOUR EYES , AND YA GONNA START THINKING ABOUT AND REMEMBERING YOUR OWN MOTHER GUARANTEED TO PULL A TEAR
Love your reaction! If you are looking for more female country music singers try Barbara Mandrel "Burning the Midnight Oil," "If Loving You Is Wrong " or "I Was Country "
