I love Elton John. I grew up with his music and to see Metallica perform one of his songs was so fun to watch. #eltonjohn #reaction #metallicareaction #metallica
James has sounded fantastic ever since the band emerged from Covid isolation. The time spent back in rehab and the time off from the road did him a world of good. And they've sounded especially good on the 72 Seasons tour. James definitely seemed to be having a blast playing this show, and the best part of it all was how much Elton & Bernie clearly loved it.
FYI...the song is titled 'Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding', and it's not from Elton's first album. It's from 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road', his 8th album released (I'm counting the live album 11-17-70). That being said, this cover is amazing. It's a long, complicated song, and other covers are mostly sub-par attempts to copy the original exactly. That Metallica made it their own is great. I'd suggest to anyone interested, listen to the original studio version. The song is such a fan favorite Elton almost always opens his concerts with it for a reason.
The fact that they bursted out their best instruments and played friggin awesome is mad respect for Sir Elton John. This was just fire good. GARAGE INC 2.0 maybe???? This was a masterpiece of a cover.
I also laughed and clapped when I saw this version on TV. I worked on the tv crew n was Lars’ closeup camera and wondered how it was going to turn out. I think it’s simply amazing.
@@ReactionGenX i’ve been doing this kind of work for a long time and this is one of the best live performances I ever saw. The only other time I shot Metallica was when they performed on the concert for valor in 2012 or 14 I think as part of a three hour veteran show you used to be able to see the whole thing on RU-vid I was impressed with them then but this cover was just genius.
There's a clip out there of Metallica performing on the Howard Stern show where they were shown a clip of Elton John saying that their song "Nothing Else Matters" was probably the most perfect song ever written and recorded. James actually started to tear up when they were told that. Obviously, the fact that James holds Elton John's opinion in high regard says it all.
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road isnt Elton John's first album. That would be Empty Sky in the UK and a self-titled release in the US. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road was his highest selling album and was his 7th studio album. The album helped launch him to superstardom.
@@ReactionGenXso many amazing albums to go through. Cool part of Metallica for me always has been the diversity in their albums. Maby skip ST anger thought 😂
