First Time Straight Razor Shave 

For all that watch this video and are wondering why my hands were shaky, I had some coffee earlier before my shave, probably not the smartest thing to do as i am fairly sensitive to caffeine. I appreciate all the concerns from the viewers. I do not have parkinsons or diabetes. After reading this comment if you still feel like comment on my shaky hands feel free but i will not respond, thank you for watching.

i know the vid is old. (2016) but for newbies; several things: this is a shavette (replaceable blades), a cut throat (straight razor) is a single blade you sharpen repeatedly. epilate against the grain (that's what the brush is for, badger hair is reportedly the best, soak in warm water, not hot, before creating the cream with the soap) shave with the grain for first few passes flip the razor all the way through so the point is out the other side and hold with 2-3 fingers on razor side 1-2 on the other angle is between 20-30 degrees use small strokes

that's pretty brave, going against the grain first try with a cutthroat

Had my first one 10 minutes ago, not a single nick! Went with the grain, across and against like I would with a safety razor and I actually preferred it, no redness or sore skin, no bumps at all and I only had to wash the razor twice. As long as you stretch the skin and apply little pressure, you'll be fine :)

Oh my, that's a beautiful knife. I've seen these on Amazon and have overlooked it so many times. I am jelly of you for this being your first shavette. I hope you are still using these kind of razors, cartridge shavers are an extreme rip off that NO MAN should waste money on.

I just shaved for the first time with my straights razor today. I would recommend used clear shaving gel so you can see what you are doing. Also shave with the grain instead against it

that style of replacable blade razors are called shavettes

I use a straight blade for shaving you did pretty good for a first timer you were brave. As your technique gets better it gets easier. This video is old if you stuck to it you are probably a pro by now

I have just ordered a straight razor and intend to use it for daily shaving. I already use a brush and soap and have done for a good many years. I am using a blade that uses a strop because I intend to ave this blade out live me. I liked this one, it was your first time shaving and you had one little nick. It gives me hope. Thank you.

Whatever y'all do don't let the straight razors go... They are best and sooooo economical... I got my first no brand straight razor from the hair store when I was 16... I used to use gillets and shit $12 for one... It was time to get a new head, so wat does a broke kid do? Buy a new razor for $12 cause he doesn't have $16 just for the heads... So I got my $12 went to the hair store $3 for the straight razor and i bought !!!!! 9!!!!! Cartridges of blades thats 180 blades... Man I learned how to use it, ofcourse I've cut my self before, but I still have hella blades and iam all ways lined up well groomed...

never go against the grain on your first time thats just nuts man i have been using shavettes for a little over a week i still dont go against the grain but hey you did an awesome job. there are tools to line up your beard like the beard ninja and what not check it out on amazon.com .

this idea may sound funny to you but ,you can practice your hand grip and your shave angle using some shaving soap and the top edge of a butter knife or even a popsicle stick. the first attempt to use a sharp razor can be intemidating for a newbie or a rookie, untill you develope muscle memory and confidence.

I just got an antique straight razor - and I used it - but the way you hold the razor is not the TRADITIONAL way I hope you are well....

Despite the wrong terminology (shavette not straight) I'm giving you a like for bravery. Shaky hands from coffee and Derby blades wich are some of the dullest blades on the market you did very good.

Super brave! I got a crappy magic shaver. I like the slide lock ones better I think. I watched another video that used binder clips as a guide which appeared to be about 15 degrees or about 1/2 the width of your thumb

Cool demo. But with real concern for you, the shaky hands look like diabetes. They get shaky with low blood sugar. If you haven't been diagnosed, you should get tested. I sincerely hope you are well.

Great first go with the razor. If you want to progress with it, try practicing using your opposite hand as well and without a blade inserted.
