What do ya do when 2 of your Powerstrokes are tied up and the other is in the shop, you use the gasser. After this I won’t hesitate to use it again.

I pull 12000 - 14000lbs regularly with my 6.0, the best wearing tire I have found so far with 120,000km on it is the Bridgestone Duravis M700. I run winter tires from Dec-Apr in NL

Exactly why I swallowed my pride and didn't buy a Powerstroke (or even Duramax) and went with 2500 w/ 6.6 gas--I wanted a truck that wouldn't be tied up in the shop and could still tow my Kx91-3 (one size smaller/1500lb less than a 40-4 seen here) and my M7060 tractor (which can be quite a bit heavier than a KX040 depending on implement). Did I want a diesel? Of course! But I also wanted something reliable and doesn't come with $10K in maintenance bills in the first 70k miles.

But unless you’re towing over 20k lbs it really isn’t practical to go duramax or power stroke (and forgot about Ram-their diesels are nothing but expensive issues). And if you’re towing that much weight you should be in a medium-duty single-wheel 3/4 or 1-ton truck.

I get 8-9 when towing and 13 around the country roads. Not a diesel but I make it work as can't afford the diesel upgrade.

@@cheeseymccheese7249 Yeah......IFS axle provides only slightly better ride off the assembly line because the Chevrolet and GMC 4WD 2500 / 3500 4WD trucks have several design and engineering flaws (long list) including but not limited to the inferior off-road performing IFS axle verses the Ford F250 / F350 4WD trucks and Dodge (Ram / Sheep) 2500 / 3500 4WD trucks have the heavy duty Solid Front axles...which along with other positive design and engineering attributes gives the Ford and Dodge 4WD trucks much better off-road capabilities compared to GM 4WD trucks. The complete game changer ---------> Install a quality suspension on the Ford or Dodge trucks......Carli or Icon...the Ford and Dodge trucks have a much better handling characteristics on pavement and off-road.
@15Jeep
@15Jeep 2 года назад
Historically, I have liked GM gas engines...and still like the older GM 4WD "Action Line" trucks. That said, Ford has noticeably more trucks on the roads in the Cowboy state compared to GM trucks. Furthermore, there are bona fide and legitimate reasons. Ford makes SUPERIOR Class 2 and Class 3 4WD trucks compared to the inferior Chevrolet and GMC 4WD trucks. The GM engineers cannot build a good 4WD truck...which are PATHETIC off-road, especially on uneven terrain in mud and or snow. I have seen GM 4WD trucks stuck off-road numerous times in several Rocky Mountain states. Following is a list of reasons why Chevrolet and GMC 4WD trucks are inferior to Ford and Dodge 4WD trucks. Points 1 through 5 are OBJECTIVE. Point 6 is SUBJECTIVE. 1. IFS axle - POOR Axle Articulation / Wheel Travel compared to a Solid Front Axle 2. POOR Approach Angle (low stance) - front bumper will not allow the truck to ascend a steep hill 3. POOR Departure Angle (low stance) - rear bumper drags and hangs up causing damage or will not allow the truck to descend a steep hill 4. POOR Breakover Angle (low hanging frame rails) - truck easily "high centers" on small knoll / hill and becomes a "teeter totter" (a funny sight to see and quite PATHETIC) 5. POOR Wheel Well Design and Shape - square / rectangle shaped wheel well for a round rim and tire.....the proverbial "round peg in a square hole"...the epitome of an absolute engineering blunder for a 4WD truck. Chevrolet did have some improvement (more rounded) in wheel well design starting in 2019. 6. POOR Aesthetics - simply put, the GM trucks are "butt ugly".....made for weird looking Star Wars type of creatures behind the wheel...as mentioned above, this is mostly subjective and has nothing to do with off-road performance, except for how it relates to reason Number 5. 7. DEF Tank - not sure about more recent model years, but the DEF tank on GM diesel 4WD trucks was (maybe it still is) located outside the "low hanging" frame rail on the RH side underneath the front passenger area of the truck. I have witnessed these tanks being destroyed on uneven terrain off-road. More can be said regarding Number 5 above. Taller tires provide more ground clearance. More Ground Clearance provides better capabilities off-road. The GM 4WD trucks are SEVERELY handicapped if owners desire to install taller tires. Why? Because of the round rim and tire in a square / rectangle wheel well.....requires a higher lift and or sheet metal (fender) destruction to provide clearance for 35" tires (4 inch lift) / 37" tires (6 inch lift). Raising ride height that much will mess up the "center of gravity" thus increase the chance / probability of "pitch and or roll" on uneven terrain off-road. In conclusion, modern day Chevrolet and GMC 2500 / 3500 4WD trucks are OK for the following tasks: 1. getting groceries; getting items from home improvement stores; 3. hauling and or towing moderate to heavy loads on dry, wet, snow packed paved roads.

Thank you for taking the time to show everyone out there what other trucks can do. I like the ride quality of the GM trucks but the looks are not always the best. I don't know what they were thinking when they put those plastic fender skirts on the wheel wells with stupid reflectors either, it makes the truck look tacky, and the front end of a Chevy HD truck is even worse. I drive 2013 Chevy 1500 4x4 ext cab and its been a real good truck, but in the past I have had a 94 and an 03 2500 dodge cummins and those were decent trucks. The thing that really kills the diesels are the emission controls that have forced me back to driving a gasser, of course I don't tow as heavy as i used to, but I do tow around 8000 with this 1500 5.3 and still get around 13 mpg. When you have a business, you have to go with what you need to make it work, and thats the way it goes, no mater what, and that what counts.

Completely Agree! The GM engineers need several aesthetic design courses from the Ford and Dodge engineers. Moreover, the GM engineers cannot build a good off-road capable 4WD truck. @@jptv5250 I agree that Chevrolet has improved their exterior and interior aesthetics and designs. GMC is similar, but Chevrolet has the edge with round style wheel wells in aesthetics AND function. GMC has stupid looking and poor functioning angle style wheel wells for a round rim and tire. I would give GMC the slight edge in grille / front end design. Both General Motors 4WD trucks get an F (flunk) for their Class 2 and Class 3 4WD trucks. IMO...Ford and Dodge / Ram (personal preference) by far leads the truck market with Exterior / Interior Aesthetics, Design and Ergonomics! I definitely like the CAPABILITY of the 6.2L V8 (420 HP) and FUNCTION of the differential e-Locker equipment available on the 2022 Chevrolet 1500 4WD ZR2. This truck will be a formidable competitor to the Ford F150 Tremor and Dodge 1500 Rebel. It is impossible to overemphasize the ADVANTAGES of the Naturally Aspirated 420 HP 6.2L V8. It is by far the BEST engine available under the hood of a Class 1 truck! However...the ^^^High Fives^^^ and Kudos to the new Chevrolet 1500 4Wd ZR2 are most definitely TAINTED by the FAILURE of Chevrolet allowing this truck to roll off the assembly line with puny 33 inch tall tires. This truck should have "standard 35 inch tires" and "optional 37 inch tires"......the same sizes available on the new GMC hummer. Ford's use of the twin turbocharged 3.5L V6 Ecoboost is the very reason I would not purchase any trim level F150 truck. Nothing but reliability and durability issues and problems with this engine platform. Ford would do VERY WELL introducing a Naturally Aspirated Push Rod V8 for their Class 1 F150 truck line.....especially for the F150 Tremor and F150 Raptor. I would like to see Ford build a 6.5L V8 "Baby Godzilla" engine for F150 trucks! In addition, a 5.8L V8 version would do well in the Bronco!

Interesting you mentioned how this gasser has more bed payload than your diesel truck. The GVWR can't be more than 14,000 Lbs. if the truck still wants to be labeled as a class-III. Diesel trucks have a higher GVWR, but most of that is in the towing rate, but not a higher bed payload. The reason for this is because a diesel engine is considerably heavier than a gasoline engine & therefore increases the curb weight of the truck. So, you only really want a diesel if you are going to do mostly towing and/ or you plan to put your load on a trailer. Today's direct fuel injection has enabled gasoline engine to not only make a lot of torque, but do it at fairly low RPM's; today's fuel delivery technologies have given gas engines the power band of diesel engines from 15 - 20 years ago. You look like you do a lot of towing, so you warrant the extra cost of getting a diesel.

Upper control arms and really just the front suspension of those trucks are just awful. I would suggest atleast some better aftermarket arms (kyptonite, mazzula, or kibbetech). The next issue with salt on the roads is the paint on the frame. GM uses some bs wax paint on the frames and the salt destroys it. So definitely wash the underside of it as much as possible.

I just picked up a 22’ 7.3 4.30. It’s surprising how low the RPMs can stay driving around town. It lugs itself around low in the RPM range. I have a feeling these 7.3s will be very reliable and also have longevity. The pistons have oil cooling jets on the backside, cast iron block, port injection, 6 bolt main, large spacing between cylinders, NO; direct injection, cylinder deactivate or start/stop, no crazy emissions stuff from DEF heaters to sensors. I don’t see much downtime with these 7.3s. My buddy owns a 6.6 and the valves are apparently coked up really bad from that direct injection system.
@jc7435
@jc7435 2 года назад
@Marco Polio I’m not sure of exact mileage, I believe he said 60k or 80k. They are business trucks and drive all over the Bay Area, so lots of freeway miles. The coking makes sense; oil is being deposited into the intake without any fuel rinsing off the back of the valves… They added sodium into the valves to try to reduce the coking, maybe it reduces it but it’s still happening. Don’t let it be your deciding factor tho. Every manufacturer/power train has its issues. This is one I personally didn’t want to deal with, given other wants I would still get one. I wanted; locking axle and solid front axle which you can only get with Ford (unless you want low payload power wagon). Still cleaning valves is a very lengthy $ process… adding stuff to gas to “clean” won’t work since the fuel never touches the back of the valves.
@jc7435
@jc7435 2 года назад
I’d add a GOOD high quality catch can if I had a direct injection engine. Be sure to regularly drain it. I believe it helps a lot with the coking My buddy uses the same independent mechanic for 10+ years. He doesn’t make stuff up to get a Buck (at least not with my buddys company), as he almost never recommends anything but the standard maintenance when they drop their trucks off. So I believe him when he says there is coking and it needs to be cleaned. I wish GM would just be honest and add it to the maintenance schedule.

Sorry dude but after watching this video you just don't know what a good truck is if you think that this new 6.6 gasser is good at towing. I own one of these trucks and its the absolute worst performing truck at towing that I've ever owned. 3.73 axle isn't enough gear ratio. These trucks need a 4.10 or 4.30 gear options.
@workplaytv
@workplaytv 2 года назад
I own lots of other trucks so I have lots to compare to and for a gas truck it holds it own in my opinion
@richr909
@richr909 2 года назад
@@workplaytv Well then we agree to disagree. I just don't like that these 6.6 gassers have almost no power down low below 3k rpms. I don't want to have to rev my truck from 3,500-4,500 all day for towing. Seems like a great way to kill a motor to me but I guess time will tell to see how well they hold up.
@travis10ist

Get Ford 7.3 Godzilla with 4.30 gears, y’all would be a lot happier comparing to Chevy 6.6 gasoline

@richr909
@richr909 2 года назад
@@travis10ist I test drove one before I got the GMC. I didn't like the way the 10 speed trans felt in the Ford and on the test drive the trans was at 217 degrees during normal around town driving. That's way too hot for me. When towing that trans in the ford would probably be around 250 degrees. My 2022 2500 Sierra trans runs at 164 degrees around town driving and pulls a 5,000lb trailer at 168 degrees trans temp. Heat is the root cause of trans failure. I know that Ford says that the 10speeds run hotter but I don't care, I don't trust the long term reliability with a trans running that hot, especially without a trans dipstick to check the fluid under the hood.
