I left the country back in 1979 after I had to live through the genocide under Pol Pot killing madness. Most of my family members did not survive as we were forced to move out of the Phnom Penh City in 1975 to work in the rice fields. I've returned to visit my sole surviving sister every year for the last ten years since my retirement from Minnesota , US to heal the past. It's very safe to visit Cambodia now as the country has come a long way since the prolonged civil war was officially ended in 1998. Be mindful of your surroundings . Be kind whenever possible. It's always possible as life is short to do the things we don't love doing. Happy and safe travels from a genocide survivor ✌️

The egg you were eating is made from permated salty fish and mix with egg. We usually eat it with the vegetable wrapping around because the fish will make it salty. If you like spicy, you can eat it with fresh cut chilli. Almost every Cambodian love that dish because it feel like home made foods anywhere you go.
@TheAdventureCloset
@TheAdventureCloset 28 дней назад
Nothing beats homemade. We can ser it being a comfort food. What sauce do you usually have with it?
@chhinsomanav6104
@chhinsomanav6104 21 день назад
@TheAdventureCloset Thank you for your replies. Honestly, we don't eat it with sauce because the fish is already salty. However, someplace they might make it a little bit less salty or because they put less fish in it. The fish alone you can eat it with a bowl of rice. Maybe the restaurant put less fish in it.

I am an American who was introduced to delicious Cambodian foods by Cambodian friends from church. I was blown away by their delicious and unique flavors. I crave it often. Thankfully, I just go to my friend’s house and they make them for me. They frequently invite me over for dinner. Those foods you were served would not be top recommendations. Why would they recommend those?Top delicious foods in my opinion are: 1) Cambodian Sausages (Twako) 2) Lemongrass Beef Skewers paired with Cambodian Papaya Salad. 3)Cambodian Amok (National Traditional Dish: It’s a fish coconut curry custard served in a banana leaf pocket) I prefer shrimp, chicken, or scallop amok, but they mostly make fish amok, which is the traditional one. I learned that this dish was only cooked and served to royals and upper class people back in ancient times. Only many years later, the commoners were able to eat them as well. 4) Cucumber Chicken Salad 5) Lemon Grass Beef or Chicken stir fry (Cha Kreung Chicken or Beef) 6) Lemongrass Sweet and Sour Beef soup (Somlaw Majoo Kreung… sorry for my mispronunciations or Misspelling Cambodians) 7) Cambodian Yellow or Red Curry with Noodles or Baguettes 8) Shrimp Mango Salad 9) Fermented Fish Paste with Steak and Vegetables for Dipping (Prahok w/ Steak and Veggies) 10) Prahok Ktiss 11) Fish Gravy Noodles (Nom Banjok) 12) Cambodian Pickle Slaw 13) Beef on a Bed of Lettuce and Tomatoes with Black Pepper Lemon Lime Sauce (Beef Lok Lak) 14) Cambodian Papaya Salad 15) Fish Cakes (Prahut Trey) 16) Fish Lime Gravy with Vegetables for Dipping (Thuk Trey). I again prefer Chicken. 17) Chicken or Beef Morning Glory Soup 18) Cambodian Chicken Skewers 19) Ginger Stir Fry Chicken The Khmer Empire ruled most of Southeast Asia from the 9-15 century and preceded neighboring countries. Most things in art, architecture, royal etiquette, culture, tradition, dance, royal court dance, foods, etc… heavily influenced or taken by the neighbors. Some like Thais took them and claimed them as their own, like stealing. They still do it to this day unfortunately. Anyway, happy travels and happy eating! 😊

Hi! Friend watching from Cali, Cambodia has 4 seasons , Rain season, dry season , summer season , spring season . Thank you for visiting Cambodia . Cambodia always eat soup or broth with rice that’s why they serve also rice . The soup name is Kor Koh fish it’s really good made of lemony grass and similar ingredient as curry . Leave is Moringa . Usually the side vege pieces , we ate with a dipping flavor sauce you’ll need to ask them or order side sauce that’s goes along with the vege. The green crunchy thin it’s very good it’s also goes with dipping sauce or with the eggs omelette pastry fishes that was on the same entrees that should be consume with the egg fish omelette .

Those are real Cambodian foods. Most foreigners like the fusion kind of foods because they are familiar with them. Stirred fry stuffs mostly relates to Chinese foods. There are Chinese Cambodians. I'm pretty sure that was sailor koe ko. Samlor means food. Ko means stir. As you see the dish. They stirred vegetables and fish together.

a lot of the popular Cambodian food is Chinese Cambodian food. Same with Thailand, but even more prevalent, most of what people get in Thailand is only Thai Chinese food - Pad Thai, Pad Seew, Boat Noodles, etc (most people did not eat with chopsticks until Chinese immigrants came like 100 years ago). (there's over 20 million Chinese in Thailand). a lot of Southeast Asian countries have a ton of Chinese influence in the food, especially Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam.
