In an interview with the channel "Patrol Gaming" Austin said that he wanted to show off "opera" Rob; however, Rob said he wouldn't do it unless Austin did it with him. Rob's training was primarily opera. Austin had some training in it but his degree is in musical theatre. Austin went on to say that he thought he'd been okay but that Rob was just fabulous. One of the (many) things I love about Home Free is how supportive they are of each other.

Rob was a little nervous about this because he's had a bit of operatic training in college, but he hasn't sung opera in 15 years. I was taken aback by his ability too, It was amazing!

Coach Adam Rob did study Opera in college, but hasn't really sung it about 15 years. Austin approached him with this project and this is the result...I'm glad you gave them the thumbsup (👍) as this is not their typical genre. They did try and they said "two country singers try" and I'm sure folks could tear them apart but you recognized it, for what it is.

Both Rob and Austin have classical training. Fun fact Austin was trained out of his Georgia Accent, and when he met up with the boys from Home Free and they asked him to join the group, they asked him to put the accent back. I love Rob in this, he sings is wonderfully, love that deep rich tone.

Austin hits all the notes, & with some flair, as you'd expect, but Rob bel canto'd the shizzle out of this with a gorgeous warm free-spinning chiaroscuro.... I don't give a damn if the Italian diction isn't perfect, I'd buy an album of Rob singing popular arias on day of release!! :)

This is insane. Wow, wow and again wow. This is extremely good. Fantastic. Both are doing great. But Rob sounds so different. I'm perplexed. Rob has studied some opera, but hasn't sung it in 15 years.. His voice is just magical, so rich, so warm, so powerful. Chills just ran through my body. It flows into my heart. He will be able to stand with the greatest of opera singers. It's not often that I listen to songs by opera singers many times in a row. But here it is. Of course I hope that both will always continue to do Home Free, but I wouldn't think it wrong that such "trips" are made more often. Opera, country, ballads, soul etc. I think anything is possible..

I've never cared for opera at all... but I could listen to these two sing opera for days!! After hearing them in this, I've actually listened to quite a bit of it. At first to see how it was originally performed, and I think they sound amazing. I'd love to hear them sing more!!

Even though they are using 2 different styles of opera they know each other so well. Rumor has it when Austin heard how well Rob did on his part, he went back and redid his. They are both amazing! Great reaction. Love the stop and comments.

It really isn't acceptable to make such sweeping statements. Austin was classically trained from adolescence on and then trained at one of the top universities for music on full scholar. I suggest you listen to the range of material on Austin's channel if you think he is "a country artist."

I don't think you've been listening to enough of the band's music. Rob has been getting more leads than Austin (who used to be their go-to lead) in recent years. Consider Dreamer, Remember This, Understand, Amazed. And he certainly is not underrated by anyone with ears!

Yes, Rob trained classically throughout college. Like Avi Kaplan, he is using that training to learn and know how to use the voice but Rob went country and Avi went folk, country, western. Austin is also trained but as you said, in much more of a contemporary/pop manner of singing.

Great Reaction! I have never been a big fan of opera except maybe some Andrea Bocelli & a few others. But I have always appreciated the talent it takes to sing opera. I was pretty impressed with Rob & Austin's version of Nessun Dorma. I have heard this famous song done by Pavarotti. I think I was more surprised by Rob's range & powerful delivery than even Austin's. Pretty good for a couple of country boys! Nice to see them dressed up in suits & looking classy.

Austin’s voice is sharp blue ice, Rob’s voice is a warm flannel blanket, Chance sings like dark velvet, and Tim … well with a 5+ oct. range, can destroy a sound system with his bass thunder yet reach unexpected highs. ( check out Tim’s single, “Stay”.

@@patriciamcl54 If you watch Home Free’s “Ring of Fire, featuring guest, Avi Kaplan, you may notice how Avi tips his hat to Tim’s ending note. If you want to dispel any doubt about Tim’s (sound system destroyer bass - true, he has blown a number of systems at concerts.) check out Peter Hollens, featuring Tim Foust: Misty Mountain. Stay for the very end, and hang onto headphones.

This was actually Austin's idea, and he had to convince Rob to do it. Rob actually had classically trained in college. But he hadn't sung Opera in over 15 years. Austin had a musical theater in college. But he was also classically trained. They were very nervous while waiting for the premier. But oh my gosh no reason to in my opinion. Truly enjoyed watching your reaction to this song.

In Home Free, Austin is the high tenor, generally a lighter voice than Rob, who is a low tenor, although Austin can reach low notes as well as Rob, he losses air volume and his voice sometimes is missing with the background of the group

Training in classical music is the foundation of all serious voice training, which both have done. Lundquist simply has more classical training.
@patriciamcl54
@patriciamcl54 Год назад
No. Rob was trained to sing in a particular Italianate style for which his voice is highly suitable. Austin was classically trained from about age 15 and then received further years of training. If he had trained for another 10 years, he wouldn't have developed the same style. It has nothing to do with how much training you have, it's how you develop what you are born with. In fact Austin's teachers wanted him to continue since they could hear one of the most in-demand sorts of voice in contemporary opera (as opposed to the Italian warhorses), a true lyric tenor.

I subscribe more to Jeff Constellucci. Training my voice consists of singing every part of a Home Free or VoicePlay song, and I wonder how many people like me are out there (that can hit every note, though the deepest bass rumbles are still a bit beyond my current reach).

I'm perplexed as to why you cut off the first few seconds of the video, which includes the slightly nervous smile they exchange , before their transformation. I also continue to be perplexed as to why Americans think that only a heavy Italianate tenor has an "opera voice", since the 19th - early 20th century Italian operas are pretty much considered out of style in the opera houses of Europe. A British vocal coach reactor, trained in opera himself, has commented that a lyric tenor like Austin is much more employable, being able to be used in opera. light opera, musicals, song recitals ... In early opera like Monteverdi heavier tenors sound weird even if they can manage the vocal agility required, and in modern opera (Glass, Turnage, Birtwistle ...) the Italian style voice is actually a handicap. Of course Rob's voice is lovely but that style is not the only one in town. With that in mind, it's worth remembering that Austin's tutors in college wanted him to do further study for opera , but he decided against it, having already had about 6 or 7 years of classical training as well as Broadway style. Curiously, I've noticed that when reactors comment on the goosebumps this produces or make a little noise of emotion, it's always when Austin sings those high sustained notes or when he uses a more reflective tone at the beginning of his second section. I am a great admirer of the brilliance and agility of Austin's voice, and to write him off dismissively as "a pop singer" is in my opinion a mistake .There does also seem to be a cultural divide in what is appreciated: Americans go crazy for very low notes with a sort of sports stats awe at how many octaves someone can sing. Europeans are on the whole more interested in how someone sounds and are not that impressed by very low voices! Personally I'm very glad Tim Foust had nothing to do with this, otherwise there would have been the usual fangirling.
