I'm a Baby Boomer, and just seeing these young people so committed to finding answers and solutions with such positivity and maturity is very enheartening for me and my feelings for the future of our children and our country.
I dunno, I’m in my late 20s, and I’m kinda tired of feeling like there’s been no actual change regardless of who is in office. You’ve probably seen more transformative stuff during your lifetime, but so far, every election has been promising me the moon and then seeing me again in four years.
@@burstingturtle Hope you are planning to vote. The problem we've had started quite a long time ago with the republican party. They would f things up and the Democrats would have to come in and clean up their mess. Without fail! It was even WORSE under trump and we had to endure tons of businesses closing down and the subsequent loss of revenues because of it due to his mishandling of Covid. Biden had to come in and turn things around, and that he did! We were headed on a spiraling crash and burn course under trump, and it will get worse if he wins. For the first time since Obama, I feel hopeful for a new and different future, one of fairness and prosperity. We could live in a different country under dictatorial rule, but we are fortunate not to. I will do all in my power to make sure that never happens to our country. I am voting HARRIS/WALZ. No matter how she performs in her duties as President, it could NEVER be as bad as losing our freedoms and rights to a wanna-be dictator. Please VOTE!!
@burstingturtle don't lose hope. Real change takes time. I have faith and have been waiting for your generation to make the change. We need the youth to show up. I believe you are a more tolerant and inclusive generation and just want people to live their life. Hang in there!
@@burstingturtle I've been in the tech field for over 20 years. I always vote, and nobody knows my name, regardless of who is in the White House. When I was young, I loved technical things and kept reading them. Then, I got into the tech field. Please read hot technologies and join free online seminars or recordings. The hope in this country is that if you're good at something in tech, you'll have a hope of getting a good-paying job.
@@burstingturtle I mean under Biden you got the largest infrastructure deal since Eisenhower and massive climate change investment (the largest in history by far)
I love this for them it really touches my heart to see the young generation civically engaged and educating themselves about important issues. It’s just so refreshing and positive!
I love seeing these young people so engaged. When we were young , the environment and guns weren’t so very serious in our lives. Also, healthcare was an issue but not as expensive when we were young. Go young folks.
As a millennial, I feel like we have always cared about the issues more so than the candidate. Unfortunately, this country has been in discourse ever since Trump came on the scene and took over the Republican Party. I really wish the real Republicans would take their party back because this is not how it used to be. This will be the second presidential election that my GenZr gets to vote and I’m still not sure if she gets the impact her vote makes so these type of meetings should be held among young voters.
Yeah it's a little crazy how different the media covers gen z vs how they covered millennials when they are actually very similar to eachother in many ways, especially late 80s-early 90s millennials. They attacked millennials relentlessly for things they now praise gen z for. But I think it's because of us, they've change their coverage because we are the largest generational consumer-base and the media at the end of the day is profit-driven these days and will cover things in a way that gets them clicks, views and subscriptions from consumers. People keep wondering why the shift in tone from the media has changed so dramatically over the last 5-10 years and that's precisely why, we were slowly overtaking boomers/silent gen in numbers as they continue to die off and marketing had to start to change.
all young people are positive and progressive ! All over the world ! Only when you turn 40 you vote "conservative"....which means the so called sttus quo....which means STOP !
@@deerslayer4204It’s hilarious that you conveniently refuse to ignore nuance like the modern housing crisis, the gig economy, inflation, etc etc etc, it’s much easier to look down on people, than have a single nuanced thought for you I guess 😂
@@GraceEarney-di6vjFact check: the only political party consistently advocating to raise the voting age, to limit youth access to the ballot, are republicans/conservatives/the right wing. Nice try at deflecting with a soundbyte though, you sound like the same people trump whines about
Excellent program. thank you for bringing this article to the forefront. I feel that more good stories like this would be uplifting to everyone. I wish there were more.
I just hope with all these efforts these young adults will vote in greater numbers and vote consistently as a responsibility in this democracy. Voting not on just the immediate issues, but considering the short and long term consequences of voting and not voting on their futures.
Unfortunately, we still have the electoral college, which is basically affirmative action for Republicans, and many election officials across the country are devout maga election deniers who have pledged to not certify any results they don’t agree with
They are having a real debate based on their views. This is how democracy works, or should work. Talk about your differences and decide on an agreement of what will work for all involved. This country matters very much to them, after all, they will be the ones to inherit what is done today, America is their future. I love this.
Good thing you said “should work”, because I agree fully. But the modern Democratic Party is far from democracy. Installing a candidate that no one voted for is the opposite of democracy.
Democrats have been in charge for 12 out of the last 16 years and our country has slipped so far into communism it’s frightening. Look at Venezuela and ask if you want your grandchildren living like that. Kamala was born and raised Marxist. The writing is on the wall peeps
What were the adults on stage talking about? Are the discussions just about ideas the young people came in with? Did they base the discussion groups on questions that these young people voted to talk about before they came to the event? Is all this info going straight to the candidates?
The discussion topics were put together before the voters arrived and they had no say in what those topics were going to be. Prior to their arrival, they were given a pre-program survey on their views towards the topics as well ad briefing materials explaining all the proposals in detail. Once at the program, there were 4 deliberations in small groups of around 10-15 on all the proposals under the 4 different main topics: Environment, Economy and AI, Healthcare, and Democracy. After these deliberations, the voters all met in the big ballroom for an expert panel on the topic just discussed. The experts were of various expertise and political affiliations. People were called up throughout the panel to ask questions their group had come up with during their deliberation. I'm not sure if this data was sent to the candidates themselves, but it's publicly available online so the candidates can easily collect the data.
My kids did a Close Up trip to Washington DC where parents sent their seniors to Washington DC to see Washington firsthand. They would have participated in something like this while there
The first time I could vote here in the US I had to choose between Clinton and Trump, then it was Biden and Trump, and now it is Harris and Trump (again). Trump has been a very annoying constant when it comes to choosing for me.
Do some research into the history of your nation. And world politics, how they have turned out, what cause and effect shows up every time. Then you'll have your own stand. Not just what the MSM tells you.
Remember team sport VOTE ALL blue There are 50 @SenateDems elect 10 more to get the peoples work done there's 213 @HouseDemocrats elect 20 more VOTE ALL DEMOCRATS
School choice isn't what it sounds like. It's a long con. They take funding from public schools for decades so they can say 'look how public school is failing! ', then offer discounts to enroll kids in private schools which are free to teach, or NOT teach, anything they like.
I literally don't know a Democrat that doesn't support the 2nd amendment. But that doesn't mean that people should have weapons of war on the streets. It's really straightforward. If you saw somebody walking down the street with a bazooka, you wouldn't applaud that person for exercising their second amendment. This is how people see automatic rifles that spew out hundreds of bullets a minute. The responsible thing is to allow people to have their handguns their rifles their shotguns to be able to protect them and their families. At no point do you reasonably need an assault rifle. There is no sport or need of protection that warrants that type of weaponry.
We all need to be level headed and remember things like this when we see people use the age-old rhetoric about “kids these days, what is the world coming to” (the same talking point every single generation says about the younger generation they raised) Kids these days are more thoughtful, empathetic, and understanding. Sadly certain types of people see that as weakness
Thank you Joe!❤️🙏!! Thank you for passing the torch and trying to save the climate for the future. And thank you for your wonderful policies that actually makes a difference for all Americans. Roads, bridges, jobs, lowering inflation much more than in all of Europe, making medicine affordable, standing for women’s rights, family tax cuts, doing something about child and senior poverty, negotiating in one of the longest most difficult wars in the world in Israel and Palestine. Standing up for democracy and against war crimes in Ukraine. Trying to reform the Supreme Court. Talking about the importance of education. Making a better program for veterans. Investing in curing cancer. One of the greatest moments for me is when you talked about empathy for 15 minutes in one of your press conferences, when asked a question after the final question. Showing the world So much decency and love in that. That’s respect for all ages. And bringing back aviators. Thank you 🙏 ❤️
Because raising minimum wage doesn’t work without also putting caps on the price of necessities. And not just the obvious necessities like food and healthcare, but the ones they still pretend are luxuries, like communication/connection services, transportation needs, power, water, all of which are needed to hold down a job! How are you getting/keeping a job without a phone or internet, without reliable transportation, without water to keep yourself clean, and without electricity to keep it all running? There’s also the housing issue. Housing prices have gone criminally insane in most areas, priced for desperate people who need to live in certain areas close to their job and decent enough to raise their kids, and who work several jobs to afford it, OR live with 2 or more roommates. Units that are only built for a single person or a partnered couple are now priced for 3 or 4 incomes! These are not luxuries. These are what’s needed to live and function in modern society, and ALL of these things currently have the freedom to raise their prices every time we get a raise in salary. And in many cases, that’s exactly what they do. So we end up equally as overworked, exhausted, and miserable as before, having to feel guilty for every small pleasure we allow ourselves, and having little-to-no quality of life. So until the cost of living is THOROUGHLY AND EFFECTIVELY addressed, raising minimum is a temporary fix that lasts about a minute before it needs to be raised again. And this is all completely setting aside the fact that not all small businesses can afford to keep raising their salary bill without also raising their prices, and risking losing their business altogether by pricing themselves out of their customers budget.
The minimum wage has been at $7.25 a damn hour for the past 15 years, and PRICES HAVE STILL GONE UP REGARDLESS. You think us just waiting and hoping that we can get costs of goods and services down while folks are being paid a starvation wage is going to help matters? And you didn't even mention inflation. That goes up regardless of how cheap groceries are. We need a massive minimum wage increase NOW, and tie that shit to inflation. Americans desperately need help right now. We don't have time to sit around and wait to do study after study on how to figure out the best way to cap prices when Americans are feeling the heat right now. I agree with another comment....these kids don't care about the minimum wage because mommy and daddy are paying all their bills. When it's time for them to get out in the real world, they'll quickly feel the pain.
There needs to be a minimum (livable wage) and a maximum wage. They need to be tied together. The fact that the workers are getting minimum wage and the CEO are getting huge excessive pays + bonuses is ridiculous. Prices are high because of corporate greed. The corporations are making huge profits. We need to get rid of monopolies - competition is good for consumers. Vote blue all the way down the ballot. Democrats are working for us. Republicans work for their rich donors.
There are grown adults who can learn from these young people. Look at the majority of comments online and man, it's disheartening how people talk to each other simply because they don't agree on certain political issues.
How can they not know it's collaborative? That's how the Constitution and govt is set up. It's all about debating issues, not pushing one-sided issues through. Yet, for many of these kids they've never seen a working Congress.
I wish there was an elaboration of why the support for minimum wage went down. Was there a consensus to transfer federal tax dollars to allow first time participants in the stock market and/or regulate corporate stock buybacks to allow for more average people to gain control of the stock market? Was there a consensus on replacing the minimum wage with a maximum wage instead like Jesse Ventura described to prevent too much flow of capital in one direction? Was there a consensus on increased healthcare benefits at a workplace through regulation instead of raising the minimum wage? Was there a consensus behind allowing more worker unions to negotiate higher wages or for the buildup of more worker cooperative startups?
Waste of time! As long as your values don't allow you to acknowledge that blatant lies and conspiracy theories have no platform in any political party or political sphere, then this exercise is futile. A country that elevates the Second Amendment above the right to vote is not a democracy. If America was a true democracy then as the constitution says you are endowed with alienable rights at birth, those rights should include your right to vote. No state should abridge this right unless you're incarcerated. As soon as you are out, you should resume that right as no person or court of law has the right to take away that inalienable right. Australia makes voting mandatory, but their motives for this were about ensuring they kept the aboriginal vote in check. It should be mandatory to vote. You go in and spoil your vote if you must, but you must be a part of society.
Universal healthcare would change America, for the better. I am a breast cancer survivor, who is going through a divorce after 32 years of marriage. I could have left much sooner. I will soon lose my healthcare, and Idk what I am going to do.
I love this project, the whole point of our nation is to have political discourse to understand both sides and find a compromise. Not be terrified of political attacks.
I think at least half of them will will vote blew up and down the ballot and the other half will probably vote MAGA… I hope not, but I think they will vote MAGA
A family of four migrants in New York City receives more monthly funding than a family of four that includes a military veteran who receives disability compensation.
The problem isn't minimum wage. The problem is corporate greed. Corporations will raise prices on everything if you raise wages. Nobody keeps them in check, because corporations own both major political parties.
Sweden has a great solution to this. They don’t have a minimum wage, but strong labor unions. The government threatens to get involved if the unions and employers can’t come to agreement and that threat keeps them in check. But I think we also need a higher minimum wage in the States because we don’t have enough unionization. We really need both.
Seems like some adult Americans still have not matured yet. They’ll realise that reproductive rights is a fundamental liberty. Hopefully the youth who agree with a ban change their stance as they value their freedoms more.
Stephanie Grisham, Trump's past press secretary said that Trump referred to his supporters as basement dwellers and he also said if you tell people a lie long enough they will believe it. Black people who support Trump, especially, what do you think Trump thinks of you?
Democracy should be collaborative, but at present it is flailing. I favor an end to the party system for a system based on discourse on the issues where the candidates state what their approach would be to solving the problems we are facing and an transparent look at their voting record (if they have one), even if it was only on their local city council...with an opportunity to explain why they voted the way they did and if they would still vote that way if they had to vote on that issue again. This allows the community/voters to have open discourse with the candidates, to understand where each candidate stands regarding issues they care about, as well as an opportunity to suggest ways they think would help solve the issue/problem. Some of the conclusions they reached during this experiment are concerning (based on the percentages). No more lame debates - which in this context are flawed and don't really work. Finally, the electoral college would have to go, and popular votes would decide things. Hence, we need to do a better job of educating and connecting the dots for students so that when they become voting age they know how to be engaged, how systems between the 3 branches of government influence each other and the ultimate outcomes, and how elections at the lower levels, state, local community, school boards, local courts and judges, also influence whether changes in our country happen or are thwarted by special interest groups or ideologies.

@@jordanwarner5432 big retailers like Walmart have much larger profit margins than that. If their profit margins are that small, they would also raise prices because of the minimum wage increase. Raising the minimum wage isn't that helpful, making your dollar go further by not printing money for foreign wars that have nothing to do with us, and not shutting everything down for a "pandemic" would've been more helpful.
@@SAAG69 I just googled Walmarts average markup for all its items and it’s between 20-28%. That’s not a lot man. If anything, Walmart hammers the vendors on their margins so that they can get the most competitive pricing to the customer. And the vendors usually say yes because that’s more revenue based on higher volume sold. So yes, Walmart has just enough profit margins to be competitive and still grow because they sell a lot to lower income households. Oh, and they still will price match if you find a better price online. Those monsters!
