Fun fact: it's said that the moon spirit represents the "pull" of waterbending while the ocean spirit represents the "push" so when Aang embodies the ocean spirit you only ever see him pushing the water (never pulling)
@@poggerwhite There are multiple reasons. Bringing a target closer to you, trapping a target, having more water to use, and gathering water for a specific technique are what I can think of. Being able to pull in that moment could have given the chance to complete destruction of the navel ships vs just pushing them away.
@Death2Boredom but it still did all it needed to do, it didn't need to pull the water. That's quite a bit of a reach don't you think? Just because it didn't perform feats that it didn't need to doesn't mean it couldn't do those things. Why would it need to trap a person or pull them closer when the spirit can just blast it with a mega spirit tsunami. Also did you say it would need to gather water? At the North Pole? Where they're surrounded by snow, ice, and ocean? It wasn't looking to completely obliterate the navy, it very clearly could've destroyed the whole thing if it wanted to but it didn't. Everything just seems like too much of a reach and headcannon-y to me and relies too much on overthinking and looking too deep into the show
@@poggerwhite Ah that's what you meant, I was talking about the strategy of pulling in and of itself. I would never have guessed you think it's head canon lol. It is straight up stated in the show that the Ocean is push and the Moon is pull. Not only was the Moon Spirit (Pull) dead at the time, Aang was fused with the Ocean Spirit(Push) so I have no idea how you reached that it could be head cannon to notice the animators took the time to represent that. Also there is still a reason to gather water even in such a situation, just looking at how Water Benders fight should show you that.
Koh scared the absolute shit out of me as a kid. I got nightmares after watching this episode and my mom almost made me stop watching the show. I still find him very creepy, but I absolutely love his design.
Congrats on making it 1 Book/Season! Some points: 1. Yes, that girl at the end (Zuko's sister) was in the flashback to Zuko getting burned by his dad in Ep12. She was the girl who was smirking. Zhao was there too. 2. No, Aang fused with the *Ocean* Spirit (i.e. the black fish) to help avenge its partner (the Moon Spirit i.e. the white fish) after Zhao killed it in the pond. Yue became the Moon Spirit in a way, restoring it to life at the cost of her mortal form.
One thing I love about Chief Arnook there at the end (we don’t get his name in the show) is the implication that he had a sense tonight was going to be the night. He knew how Sokka felt about her, and likely how she felt about him, and instead of assigning her fiancé as her guard, assigns Sokka, the one she cared about, to be with her in her final moments.
The firelord talking to Azula was probably a little later after everything that happened. So fire nation soldiers that went back home were able to tell what happened.
Good prediction on the Koi fish. Aang merged with the Ocean Spirit to form what has been called "Koizilla". I assume that some fire nation soldiers survived and the news of what happened got back to the Fire Lord. Book 2 is definitely more serialized in nature than Book 1, although, LOL, not much is as shocking as GOT.
The scene where the Water Tribe people are Bowing to Koi-Zilla, and the Fire Nation stand to fight, so one is left in peace of the other is obliterated gives me chills everytime. Respect the Spirits/Nature or be destroyed. Personally one of my favorite themes of the entire show.
Mark Hamill, best known for playing Luke Skywalker in Star Wars and Joker in the Batman Arkham games and the Batman Animated Series is voicing Firelord Ozai. Absolute legend.
Had to stay up, couldn’t miss this one. So excited to see it! Keep it up y’all, this reaction from y’all is my favorite thing on RU-vid rn Some clarifications for this episode, none are spoilers: The giant koizilla thing that aang became was actually the ocean spirit, not the moon spirit. The white fish was the moon spirit that zhao killed, then aang linked with the black fish, the ocean spirit, to create that giant spirit monster. It was basically using him as a vessel to unleash its wrath for losing its partner. A little way u could tell is it was only pushing the water in its attacks, indicative of the ocean, while the moon is all about pulling the water. Also, for all intents and purposes, zhao is gone. Can’t say more without spoiling something. Also, I hear u about the twists, and while I don’t think any show will ever be game of thrones in terms of twists, this show has plenty of great ones. Don’t worry. Thanks for the reaction again guys, can’t wait for book 2
I feel the same way as you two about this finale however as everyone else has said it does get far better in the next two books. Promises. Thank you two for reacting to book one and I look forward to continuing this journey with you.
Fun fact: At 10:00 you can clearly see the bridge Iroh and Zhao are standing on is highly raised, directly below is the deck of the ship. Yeah, Hahn is probably dead or crippled from that fall 😂
The blue Koi was the Ocean spirit. The Fire Nation killed the Moon, and Aang and the Ocean shared their power to wreak terrible revenge. They badly underestimated the power of the spirits. Zhao's last act in life was to decide he's rather die than let Zuko help him.

I'm not sure if I'm right about this, but I took Aang's transformation to be sort of an Avatar/Ocean Spirit possession. The Ocean Spirit wanted revenge for the death of the Moon Spirit, and that's why Aang took that form and why it primarily used water attacks. Also the Moon pulls the tides, the Ocean Spirit only used pushing attacks with its water, such as its Tsunami, to shove the Fire Navy ships away. As for Zhao, yes curious indeed what happened to him. Who knows if we will ever find out what happened to him. 🤔
Spartan is on fire while watching avatar. We're so used to him being left behind on Game of Thrones. But with Avatar he's got his nose right on the pulse while Pudgey is like "what just happened?"
One fun interesting fact is: as they told us, the moon was the spirit who pull water and the ocean the one who push it. If you watch closely, everytime the giant fish (who used the body of aang, the avatar, as a channeler) used waterbending, since it was the ocean spirit, it was only pushing water, never pulled it.
The show ramps up from here and I absolutely love Book 2: Earth. The show is really a classic that you can watch over and over again. It's fun to see new reactions to it.
From the animation quality, to the insane fight scenes, to the dark undertones even into the spirit realm, this is the episode where I first thought "Okay so this show is actually top tier", and it only gets better from here
NOT A SPOILER but a lil fun fact about this episode. Water bending involves pushing and pulling of water. It’s also mentioned that the ocean and moon spirits represented push and pull so in the final fight when aang merged with the ocean spirit, you can see that it was mainly pushing the water and not pulling since the moon represented the pull and it was dead
14:11 Water bending is arguably the most OP bending form. It can shift through all three states of mater, it's got both blunt and cutting force, it can immobilize and it can be used to hover. Not mention the other op things it can do that I can't mention (spoilers). It's only limitation is terrain but there are ways around that too.
Water is most OP 1000% can create perfect vacuums and steal all oxygen from the lungs. Can fly (not hover), cut, smash, yada yada anything anyone else can do
Cool detail, when the moon spirit is being held hostage/killed the only color is the blue in Yue's eyes showing her connection to the moon spirit. Except the ocean spirit, water and fire (like you guys said). Katara is also probably a master at this point. She reaaaally leveled up under Paku. I'm not sure how long they were in the northern water tribe, but I get the feeling it was longer than the 3 episodes made it look. I enjoy book 1, but I don't honestly remember how I liked it my first watch through. Book 2 and 3 are definitely better, your audience will also probably grow once you guys get into the rest of the series. You guys are hooked more than most after the first book so I'm sure you'll enjoy the next 2 books even more.
ıt is great to have you guys to react this show.. Because although it is the best animation ever, when you watched it a million times it is hard to go back and watch it again from the start no matter how much you miss it. So the tumblr debates and reactions on youtube is what you are left with. I wish i could watch it for the first time again :(
The finale wasn't that big indeed but it's only the first season. Wait for the second season. The finale there is so good and shocking. And the third season is ofc even much more powerful. And pls watch Legend of Korra after this. It's so good too and maybe you will meet some Charakters from Legend of Aang😏
Fun fact the reason the world went black and white was 1. A reflection of how Zhao see the world as firention and rightful rulers with everyone else being the lesser 2. The only way for the human eye to see color is through white light and so all the fire and glow from the ocean spirit creates white light and the few times it comes in contact or shines on people that’s why you get color
Congrats on making it 1 Book/Season! Some points: 1. Yes, that girl at the end (Zuko's sister) was in the flashback to Zuko getting burned by his dad in Ep12. She was the girl who

Zhaos men were still fighting Iroh after killed the moon spirit. Zhao was dragged into the spirit world. He is trapped there. Minor spoilers below for legend of Korra: . . . Zhao is seen in the spirit world, forced to wander forever in a kind of jail for humans that wrong the spirits
The avatar that tried to slay Koh was the waterbending avatar named Kuruk because he stole his wife's face (which is the woman's face Koh had in front of Aang)
Agree that this finale is the weaker finale between the 3 seasons. It will just get better from here. Not mind-bending as GoT, do note that this is still a kid’s show.😅
Late response, but at 15:30 yes she has the terrain, but Zuko is probably dehydrated, hungry, has been in freezing cold water several times in the past 24 hrs, and just got done carrying Aang on his back through a frozen landscape in the middle of a blizzard for potentially miles/kilometers. Along with the moon and such, so he might have had a small disadvantage haha 😂
love this one when Aang is in the spirit world and meets Koh and what he does for Zuko and when the ocean spirit becomes 1 with Aang and does what it does loved that
The giant water koi godzilla was a combination of Aang's Avatar State and the ocean spirit's power. After he saw the moon was back Aang left the Avatar State and the ocean spirit returned to the pond but grabbed Zhao on the way. Also "Yue" means moon in Mandarin.
The ocean spirit is the one who possessed aang and helped fight. The moon spirit was dead at that point. The ocean spirit stopped once it saw the moon spirit had been restored.
this episode shows how powerful the avatar and the spirits truly are when they let go of all restraints, but consider this Aang is a pacifist think of how all of this violence might effect him.
@@keanancupido They have watched season 2x1 but yes this would normally count as a spoiler as it in fact breaks 2 spoiler rules. We post the spoiler rules on every video.
ATLA just ramps up from here. The story telling and the fights just get more epic. I'm glad you're enjoying and can't wait to see some of your reactions to some of my fave episodes! Looking forward to your love/like/hate list.
Because the Moon Spirit got so much attention people always forget about the Ocean Spirit and give the Moon credit for the Ocean Spirit transformation... there were two fish in the pond...
Season 2 onwards is where things really start to kick in, Season 1 is decent but you could tell the first half of it was very episodic, whereas late Season 1 / Season 2 onwards episodes become a lot more long-term and plot oriented.
Zuko is hands down my favorite character. I think we all can relate a little to his journey and he is very much a complex person. Like spartan said he doesn’t want things handed to him and this makes him a true morally grey character. The wrong actions based on super honorable intentions.
As someone who loves the game of thrones and house of the dragon, I really love Avatar the Last Airbender. Book 2 is my favorite and while I do like action and and huge twists, it's the character relationships that I really enjoy in this series. And there are certainly plenty of twists ahead, but you just can't dive into the GoT mentality. But what the show does offer is a great dynamic and proves that you don't need anything over the top to be a fantastic show.
It's actually not Aang. Being the avatar, his body can often become a receptacle for spirits. Meaning it's the spirit inside his body, not Aang's actual consciousness that's doing anything.
I love how the waterbenders bow to the ocean spirit. It is such a powerful moment that they just stop fighting and put all of their faith in their tribe's protector.
Been loving these reactions so far, excited for book 2/3. Also just so you guys know the voice that is Firelord Ozai is none other than Mark Hamil (Luke Skywalker)
