Mamamoo lyricism is amazing. They all can write and you can really connect with their lyrics because they are so true to them. Even their advert song (not sure if you reacted to them already but they are woo hoo, gleam, wanna be myself, girl crush - i think it is and advert song but i might be wrong- and sky sky -which is not my fav but it is cute) are cleverly written. They incorporate a brand word (brand name i think) into the song but they use it in a way that it means something else. Seriously i think that is so hard to pull off. All of them write. Moonbyul writes all her rap verses, making her the most credited 3rd gen female artist and one of the top credited artist in general. Solar wrote a lot of mamamoo songs, star wind flower sun and you, i love too (never letting go) are top. Hwasa writes and produced other mamamoo songs. I think she wrote some in Hip. Wheein also does for her solos. All of the girsl write their own solos and in their albums. I think their lyrics is a big part on why they are so different from other kpop idols. They feel like artists, rather than idols because they literally create their own stuff and not just perform it. Don't get me wrong, idols are amazing in their own rights. But when you can write and produce, and create, it just feels different. It feels more personal as fans.
Aya live performance was during covid. Closed setting and you can see their energy ain't there. They were going through it at time. I saw their streamed live concert and it was working without the crowd. I went to the concert in NYC , COMPLETELY DIFFERENT, all was forgiven with the concert
The reason this was a "tame" performance is because Hwa Sa's grandma died during the promotions for Aya, and backstage before alot of these live performances Hwa Sa and the other members had been sad and crying, so all of their voices were not in peak condition. So since this was I believe the last of the promotion, the members were trying to cheer up Hwa Sa, then Solar cracked on her high note, and they all lost it, and when they went backstage after, they continued to laugh and joke about it.

THe story behind is (if i didn't remember wrongly) they bet who's not smiling will have to buy the other dinner. Also, in MMMTV, there's a part where solar's voice crack and they all laugh deadly. Aya/dinnga mix stage (The promise land) is a must to watch in your free time, there's fan upoad the whole video without the original viewer's comment at the bottom of the video in MAMA which block part of the video. enjoy
I saw their Oakland show at the beginning of the month! It's all a colorful, exciting blur. Literally _and_ figuratively - I hadn't had eye surgery yet. LOL
Aya is similar to Egotistic, though Egotistic is more taunting and Aya is more angry. By the way Aya means ouch part of comparing ending a bad relationship being like getting a rotten tooth pulled. Their energy was down becaus there was no audience for anybody in fall of 2020. Mamamoo draws so much energy from their audience they were affected more by the lack than most groups. Moonbyul was using the hand mike becaus she had injured her left elbow from the vigorous movements in the "gun shot shot" part of her choreography so the choreo had to be modified. It doesn't come up in this behind the scenes but they are in the middle of a fast to get ready for the comeback, and the shoot went all night. The unibrow is another one of Solar's doing something different and all of her handlers trying to stop her. The director was fine with it.
Not sure if you're reading replies to comments so just going to put it here too - Mamamoo is NOT disbanding. Hwasa is moving to PNation for her solo activities but PNation has stated they will fully support Hwasa's Mamamoo activities. Mamamoo will continue.

The set and costumes, really the whole vibe of this MV make me think of Conan the Barbarian. Arnold, sitting on a throne in the back wouldn't look out of place. Maybe he's the one they're shooting arrows at.
Always enjoy the bass line in Aya. In the 'Behind The Scenes' video, Whee In aptly demonstrates why she is my bias. Solar's mono brow is homage to someone but I can't remember who. 😀

Mamamoo does not hold back, yeah this is a break up song and its clear the guy is kicked out for being a jackass. The tooth thing is remove the guy and pretty much anyone like a rotted tooth, pull and remove. Egotistic is also like this, the guy is an egotistical moron so they F him and Chico Malo which is just Solar and Moonbyul is very much a divorce including the two of them flipping up middle fingers blatantly saying FU to the bad boy, watch Chico Malo, the two did their own reaction video to their own MV and said that was the first time they shot an MV entirely on a single stage. Though AYA is sort of an Egyptian like influence, Solar said the Unibrow is for Frida Kahlo a mexican painter who back in the 1920s until the 50s had a unibrow to combat the then beauty standards. Mamamoo tosses in this type of thing in videos also. Most mamamoo MVs are produced like this, either cultural appreciation, or to a time period, telling an actual story, comedy, their MVs are so well produced I think we all have to watch the Live videos because they are so insanely good live but also the MVs because they are so well produced. Most usually find the AYA/Dingga Aggrabah version for live, since they roll out on 4 giant thrones and it is over the top and does have the audience. They prefer handheld mics but for choreo like they dont use them.

They didn't take the crowd out - there was no crowd. Aya came out during the pandemic and the pre-release single from the album was their covid song Dingga. Mamamoo was probably the group most affected by the pandemic because they're first and foremost a live group. All their virtual live performances during the pandemic were missing the energy and excitement of the feedback loop created when MMM performs in front of a real audience full of moomoos. They frankly seemed a bit lost during the pandemic and in my opinion they only got their mojo back when they embarked on the MyCon tour. Irish is one of the genres Mamamoo has never done. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it but they're full of surprises and love new musical challenges so you never know. Not sure why you said they do different cultures with every MV. Egotistic is the only other MV I can think of with specific cultural references unless you want to include Starry Night and Wind Flower because they were shot in New Zealand and Hong Kong. As with Egotistic's Spanish diaspora concept it's worth pondering why they used an Arabian Nights concept for the main set & costume design in Aya and why the members also played bizarre characters that have nothing to do with the Arabian Nights. Btw, Mamamoo was accused of cultural appropriation by knee-jerk critics who missed the point altogether. I think the snake charmer flute is a clue that the relationship has been a seductive illusion, a romance novel where they constructed an elaborate, exotic fantasy world of their own creation. Mamamoo songs about love, passion and desire are very visceral and often include elements of dangerous, risky behavior. Don't forget that Scheherazade tells the 1001 tales to avoid being killed by her husband, who puts his wives to death the day after their marriage so he can never be cheated on. The visual design in Aya is as blatantly unrealistic as the orientalist art of the 19th century or the set & costume design for the Ballets Russes production of Scheherazade over 100 years ago or a Disney movie. MMM isn't appropriating a real culture, they're using the well-known catalog of phony, fictional representations of Middle Eastern culture to make a statement about the seductive and destructive power of romantic love when it's nothing more than self-deception and a castle build on sand. Breaking free from this fantasy of love is going to be painful (Aya means Ouch! in Korean) and the members' methods of liberation are just as strange as the fantasy land they're leaving. Wheein sheds the veils, hats and dark makeup representing her oppressed and repressed state of mind in the relationship and becomes a sort of genie who magically makes the room light up when she liberates herself. The other three take more violent measures to extract their lingering feelings: Moonbyul fights back with a gun and an arrow to kill her feelings, Hwasa extracts them like rotten teeth, and Solar ... well, she has a wild imagination so her outlandish character takes some 'splaining. Solar said the unibrow was a nod to Frida Kahlo but didn't explain what Frida had to do with the Asian ghost character implied by the long white dress and excessively long hair or what either had to do with a breakup song. Young female Asian ghosts are thought to be haunted (so to speak) by lost love. Frida Kahlo lived most of her life in pain after a teenage accident when her pelvis was impaled during a bus accident. Put them together in the fever dream mind of Kim Yongsun and you end up with the final scene where she ritually impales the bowl of her tears with a dagger to exorcize her feelings. In Aya it's like we're getting a kpop version of a few more tall tales that Scheherazade never got around to telling in the Arabian Nights.

Imo Aya is one of their most interesting MVs because the only full explanation for everything going on is something similar to my lengthy and fairly complicated interpretation and, as you said, that's a lot! Btw, if you haven't seen Leon Bakst's set & costume designs for the Ballets Russes' Scheherazade I think they're worth checking out, esp for an art director. They're easily found on google images. They epitomize the exotic orientalist notions of Middle Eastern culture in the west at that time and influenced everything that came later in western film.
Sadly, RBW confirmed Hwasa did not renew her contract and will leave on 30 June. No mention was made by RBW about signing a special agreement like Wheein did in 2021 to allow her to remain a member of Mamamoo and participate in Mamamoo group activities and/or albums.
@@I-Roy Check your facts, I'm right. Wheein's special contract was extended to Dec 2023, Hwasa's has already expired and RBW announced two days ago that she did not renew her contract and made no mention of any special contract until Dec 2023.
@@I-Roy RBW announced on June 27 that MAMAMOO's Hwasa would be leaving the firm due to the expiration of her contract. The idol joined RBW in 2014, the same year she debuted with MAMAMOO. RBW said in its statement, “We inform you that our exclusive contract with Hwasa, who we have worked together with until now, recently expired. After careful discussion with Hwasa, we mutually decided to wrap up our beautiful journey together.”

Hey DJ, I wonder if she has ext with Mamamoo activities but not announce it maybe? Because today RBW posted Hwasa dancing Queen of her episode. Not sure why they would promote her if they are no longer affiliated in any way..very strange. Wish the company would clarify if she is still OT$ like wheein did or not.
