I don't think there's ever going to be a psychological thriller as good as this one, I wish I could revive watching the last performance again, especially the act where she ends with the black swan and her shadow resembles the swan, just perfect. The oscar Natalie won was well deserved
@@hshwuajqkwjdbwjje2066i watched perfect blue before and i love them both but me personally thinks black swan is a bit better only bc its irl though, both are masterpieces
I love how the costumes are also telling the story. Nina starts in white and pink displaying her mind set and the shades slowly darkens with gray to black as she falls into madness. The movie is about toxic perfection and loosing yourself in your craft. Its so good. ❤❤❤
"The only person standing in your way is you." Fun Fact: The script took around ten years to make it to the screen. Real Dancing Fact: Both Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman have praised choreographer Benjamin Millepied for altering the choreography enough to allow them to do most of their own dancing and to help them appear like professionals. Good Friemenies Fact: Natalie Portman revealed that director Darren Aronofsky would subtly try to pit her and Mila Kunis against each other during filming in an attempt to increase the on-screen tension between their characters. This included keeping the two actresses separated during filming and sending each of them intimidating text messages about each others performance that day. However, according to Kunis, this backfired; because they were already good friends before filming, whenever they would get wind that the other one was doing really well, they would respond in congratulatory support, not rivalry.
That Darren Aronofsky sounds like a menace. I heard he really fucked with Amy Adams, and Jennifer Lawrence had an intense and hellish experience filming Mother! Ion like the cut of his geb; his vibes are off 🥴
It irritates me when I hear stories of directors trying to manipulate actors like that. Natalie and Mika have shown throughout the years that they are great actresses. No need to resort to manipulation to get a good performance. Glad they saw through it and it backfired.
OMG I didn't know this! I'm so happy it backfired! It's not only wholesome, but also goes to show that people don't always have to be against one another to work better. Camaraderie is even greater!
I never realized the rash on her back is supposed to be a metaphor for her mental health. At first, it's not that bad. Over time as more traumatic things happen to her while preparing for the role, it gets worse & eventually it consumes her. The stress/pressure of the industry she's in, the predatory behavior of the art director, her overbearing mom, her struggle with owning/accepting her sexuality, etc.
this is literally one of my favorite movies. If you liked this you should watch Perfect Blue (1996), it’s an animated movie that is literal PERFECTION. Natalie Portman was also in another movie called Closer that is so beautiful and iconic that she of course gave another outstanding performance in
One of THE best psychological thrillers imo.. I cant imagine anyone other but Natalie portraying this role, it was so beautifully heart breaking!! Thank you for watching this, there isn't many reactions for it 🥺🥺
As someone who has danced professionally for years, I have a love hate relationship with this movie. Love the thriller aspect along with the aesthetic but annoyed how Natalie Portman claimed to do all of the dancing scenes when in reality the majority of the pointe scenes were done by a professional ballerina instead. Love your reaction as always, Chu!
They counted the shots, they say the majority of them are Natalie. The harder pointe stuff was Sarah. 35 full body shots, 23 were Sarah. Every other dance shot was Natalie. I think they’re just arguing over what constitutes a dance shot. Sarah says only the foot work counts, the production says it all counts and the simpler pointe work was Natalie. I think Sarah signed a bad contract and didn’t take enough credit. But they can both be right. She did the hard stuff but the majority of what they used in the film wasn’t the shots of hard stuff, that was only about 20% including two with Sarah’s face replaced, the rest was arms, face and simple foot work by the actor.
This comment is a lie lmao she’s obviously not a pro but to try and discredit the time she spent into making sure she could do MOST of the shots is sad and weird when you aren’t even spreading the correct info
I've noticed a lot of people mention Perfect Blue, but don't think I saw anyone say that Darren Aronofsky bought the rights to Perfect Blue specifically so he could make Black Swan.
I took dance classes for 8 years, sadly some traditional teachers want you to be thin. "I can see your lunch" has been said to me a couple of times because my tummy would stick out. I don't know if it's the same today
When I first saw this film, I had read an interpretation that it was about the protagonist having a mental breakdown after being sexually abused by her mother her entire life. Only later on did I hear other takes on this film, and that one is still the one that makes the most sense to me.
That actually makes the most sense. I definitely thought that the mother infantalized her and engaged in very inappropriate behavior, but I could never figure out if the mother toed that line of sexual abuse or fully crossed that line. Both are absolutely horrible though. But that sense of disassociation N. Portman had throughout the entire movie is indicative of abuse of a sexual nature. And she seemed so confused by her own desires through the whole run time.
Only Imbd,” when they still had forums.” people brought up the mother, daughter sexual abuse. If it wasn't flat-out sexual abuse it was emotional incest, hence her obsession with her daughter that goes beyond controlling.
@@Chuuzus please react to perfect blue if you haven't seen it was the og movie but they're both very different i love black swan for some personal reasons but perfect blue is in the top 5 "horror" movies of all time for me
you can be a ballet dancer no matter what your size is, the skill and talent has nothing to do with weight. but the ballet industry has a long history and still very prominent beauty expectations for the ballet dancers bc of the beginning of ballet dancers in france also being used by powerful men and just general french beauty standards. but WEIGHT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BALLET ABILITY!! alot of ballet dancers sadly end up having ED’s due to this prominent beauty expectation. but i think the industry atleast in the US is being bit more inclusive. although slowly.
Black Swan is such a good movie. I could only watch it once, but it left a big impact. This is why I voted for you to watch it. Gorgeous and heartbreaking. Natalie deserved that Oscar.
how I took the lip biting thing was he wanted to see her have a strength/resistance, show how defiant she was to get the role. Had she let him have his way it would’ve proved she’s weak
Being someone who had a passion for dance, and later having to give it up because I sustained a knee injury and gained massive weight as a result of depression, this movie WRECKED me. Especially seeing the other dancer getting hit by a car and having bolts on her legs...
i just watched it for the first time last week. it’s one of my fav movies now. also as a figure skater and ex ballet dancer, there’s a TON of eating disorders involved.
@@Chuuzus you HAVE to watch Whiplash now, with Miles Teller and JK Simmons. Movie fans and critics like to put that film as a sort of brother to Black Swan, bc both of them deal with the obsessed artist and the hardass mentor. Truly chef's kiss. Simmons won an Oscar (bc he ATE!) and Miles Teller actually acted well in it.
I remember watching this when it came out and how it reminded me of Gaga's 09 vma performance but also Madonna's Die Another Day video. As someone living with a mental disorder, I'll always have a special place in my heart for this movie. Loved your reaction because b*tches do be crazy lol
One of your best reactions yet mehn!!! I've seen the movie many times before, but your reactions made it even more of an experience. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 I love you!❤️❤️
This is an excellent movie. I remember being a kid and looking forward to watch this. We didn't have internet access at home so I would go to the public library to do research for homeworks, they'd assign you a computer for an hour to google whatever you needed, I would rush and use the last minutes to watch this movie's trailer as many times as possible. Then, when I got to watch the film, Omg! Natalie is perfection. Good old times those days.
You should watch "Mother!" It's one of my favorite movies EVER. So disturbing but Jennifer Lawrence's performance is INSANE. It's the same director as "Black Swan" too :)
Another great Darren Aronofsky film is Mother! with Jennifer Lawrence it'll definitely take you for a ride and it's just as beautiful as Black Swan 🖤👌🏻
this movie is definitely inspired by perfect blue, an anime film directed by satoshi kon. i strongly recommend watching that film too. it’s beautifully haunting.
aaah so happy you did this, black swan is one of my favs movies from life! it was what got me into dancing 'cause the dancing scenes are so breathtaking. this reaction is the best Christmas present, thank you ❤
there are a few theories that speculate what happened to nina before/after the movie but the one i think is the most logical was that nina was s3xually abused as a child. it’s dark AF but hey so is this movie 👀😅
Thank you for this 😊. If you're looking for another movie to watch, Promising Young Woman is a great one! Make sure you read up on the trigger warnings first though 😬 Merry Christmas! ❤️❤️❤️
You experiencing these amazing films with such joy and being on the verge of tears because of the quality of the film is why I love movies and reactors like you!!
"Does this mother not know what privacy is?" That lady don't know the meaning of the word. That and 'keep your hands to yourself.' The mother and Vincent need court ordered classes in respecting boundaries.
oh my god this is one of my all time favourite movies it's so good! i'm glad you checked it out boo💞 Natalie Portman gave us that Oscar nomination type acting as Nina, she DID that
That opening scene ....the first 30 seconds of the movie is absolutely beautiful- my favorite scene. I have loved Natalie Portman since I first seen her in The Professional, 1993. She's one of my favorites.
Please react to Whiplash! It deals with the same theme (Perfection) as the Black Swan, though not as theatrical, and has a hell of a performance from J.K. Simmons :)
‘What Lies Beneath’ is an excellent 2000s horror thriller. Chillllld…you will love the twists and turns. Very creepy. Kinda spooky. Kinda sexy. Happy New Year Chu 🎉 hope you stay blessed and beyond in 2023!!
Ughh yesss!!! This is one of my favorite movies. The storyline and the costumes 😩. My face lit up when I saw this in my subscriptions, you're a gem. Hope you're enjoying your holiday szn Chu 🤎
chuuzus’ uploads give me life i literally clicked right away! plus, this is one of my favourite movies of all time. will be watching it later though because i’m tired and i want to give my full attention to this video.
your commentary was so funny, I was traumatize the first time I watched it, and had nightmare with the "black swan side" but the final dance scene omg it was beautiful.
A real Christmas gift! One of my favorite films and one of my favorite RU-vidrs together 🥰. I could watch that Black Swan scene FOREVER. SO FREAKING AMAZING!
Merry Christmas to you and yours! Thank you for all the laughter and tears and jump scares. You always make me smile. All the best to you in the new year!🥂✌🏻💖
Merry christmas Chuuzus❤️❤️❤ I haven’t finished the video yet but I’m sure it’ll be amazing as always. Although suspiria and the witch didn’t win the vote I hope you react to them in future as they are amazzingg. Bit fucked up but it’s what we’re used to on this channel💀💀
I'm so glad I found your channel, you're so funny and I loved your reaction 😂❤ Shit hits the fan very quickly and unexpectedly in this movie, but I love it so much, it is definitely in my top 5
Natalie Portman ate this shit up right here❤️😊listennnn Natalie is my wife atp I only watched it bc she was the movie and chuuuuuu😭😭❤️❤️🫶🏼not my favorite thriller movie you know the seasoning 😂🤣🤞🏽🤘🏽to my heart on this one ❤️❤️❤️❤️🫶🏼love yaaaa I hope your having an amazing week and weekend ❤️😊my favvvv happy holidays to you my love and happy new years ❤️❤️❤️🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼🥹
The point of the movie is that she drives herself so hard that she actually starts seeing Mila Kunis' character, who was never really there. The really sad part about this film is that the actresses had to restrict their diets to an unhealthy level and it made them miserable.
I don’t comment enough but hunnnny, you are just fine, no ugly! I love your reaction to this one because I feel like I went through all of the same emotions and thoughts as you, love this movie. I kinda really want to see you review May and Stoker. I have others I can’t remember now, but that just means I’ll have to watch more vids and comment later!
Vincent Cassel is a French treasure and a damn fine actor! I'm very excited for the upcoming version of The Three Musketeers with him and Eva Green 😍 Definitely check out Vincent in Brotherhood of the Wolf. You will not be disappointed by additional man candy Mark Dacascos 😉
LOL „the score“ BABES the soundtrack is just the original Swan Lake Ballet from like 1875. The story of the Swan Queen is a real and iconic ballet piece. You should look it up sometime
For some reason, my favorite line and also line favorite delivery in this film is, "Was I good?!" Black Swan instantly asking the only thing that matters.
