HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS MOVIE REVIEW | 40:20 - 46:36
Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 Movie Description:
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 is a 2011 fantasy film directed by David Yates and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. It is the second of two cinematic parts based on J. K. Rowling's 2007 novel of the same name and the eighth and final instalment in the Harry Potter film series. It was written by Steve Kloves and produced by David Heyman, David Barron, and Rowling. The story continues to follow Harry Potter's quest to find and destroy Lord Voldemort's Horcruxes in order to stop him once and for all. The film stars Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, alongside Rupert Grint and Emma Watson as Harry's best friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Principal photography began on 19 February 2009, and was completed on 12 June 2010, with reshoots taking place in December 2010.
Part 2 was released in 2D, 3-D and IMAX cinemas worldwide from 13 to 15 July 2011, and is the only Harry Potter film to be released in 3-D. The film was a commercial success and one of the best-reviewed films of 2011, earning praise for the acting, Yates's direction, musical score, visual effects, cinematography, action sequences, and satisfying conclusion of the saga. At the box office, Part 2 claimed the worldwide opening weekend record, earning $483.2 million, as well as setting opening day and opening weekend records in various countries. Part 2 grossed over $1.3 billion worldwide and became the third-highest-grossing film at the time, as well as the highest-grossing film of 2011. As of 2021, it is the 13th-highest-grossing film of all time, the highest-grossing film in the Harry Potter series, as well as in the Wizarding World franchise, and the ninth film to gross over $1 billion. It is also the highest-grossing film ever released by Warner Bros. The film won several awards and was nominated for many more, including three nominations at the Academy Awards for Best Art Direction, Best Makeup and Best Visual Effects.
The Blu-ray and DVD sets were released on 11 November 2011 in the United States and on 2 December 2011 in the United Kingdom. The film was also released in the Harry Potter: Complete 8-Film Collection box set on DVD and Blu-ray, which included all eight films and new special features. Part 1 and Part 2 were released as a combo pack on DVD and Blu-ray on 11 November 2011 in Canada.

People Are Really Misunderstanding My Whole Point About SLYTHERIN... It Has Nothing To Do With Me Thinking They Were Going To The Dungeons, I Don't Care And I Honestly Don't Know Why Yall Are Making That Yall Arguement, Because I Specifically Mentioned My Problem With What Happened. The Arguements Yall Are Making Are So Wrong Because You Didn't Listen, Get The Wax Out Of Your Ears And Pay Attention. I Said What I Said Because The SLYTHERIN Students Could've Helped With The Battle And The Good Guys Needed Every Wand They Could Get. In the books, McGonagall did not say that. She didn't treat slytherins any type of way, like they made it seem in the movie. She said something along the lines of Slytherins needing to choose what side they were on, like everyone else had too. Then she evacuated all the underage students. The students of age were permitted to stay and fight if they chose to. Aberforth was the one who actually submitted the idea that they hold the death eaters children "hostage" but Harry immediately rejected it. He said Dumbledore would have never allowed it and it wouldn't stop Voldemort anyway.

She was disowned by her family (the Black family, Bellatrix and Narcissa's maiden names are Black) for not sharing their pure-blood ideology and marrying a muggle born, Ted Tonks. A lot of people misinterpret Dumbledore's line "Don't tell me now that you've grown to care for the boy." This line is a reflection of Snape, not Dumbledore. It was actually truly surprising that Snape cared for Harry because he did not hide his dislike for him over the years. Also, Harry's mom didn't just friend zone Snape. Snape was hanging out with the wrong crowd. He started to get into dark magic, and they grew apart. He called Lily a "filthy mudblood", and that was pretty much the last straw for their friendship. And although James wasn't perfect growing up, he did grow to become a great man, husband, and father. What I like most about JK's characters are that they are all complex. Nobody is perfect and book/movie characters shouldn't be either.

The books do better at explaining why too. People loyal to Voldemort don't use his name out of reverence, opting instead for the typical "You-Know-Who" moniker or more likely an honorific (The Dark Lord, our Lord, etc) and anyone not loyal to Voldemort would not use his name out of fear, leaving the only ones using his name to be those not loyal to him and also not fearful of him, and thus most likely to challenge him.

In the books, when Harry allows Voldemort to kill him, he's sacrificing himself to save the entire world, in doing so, he creates the same magical protection for everyone, including himself, that his mother gave to him when she sacrificed herself trying to protect Harry. Voldemort uses the cruciatus curse on Harry when he's pretending to be dead, but it doesn't cause Harry any pain. When he goes up to the school and talks, people are yelling out at him and he casts a spell to silence everyone, but the spell doesn't stick, and people begin to shout at him again. Everyone is protected from his spells. He couldn't kill a single person if he tried. Harry goes to duel him in the great Hall in front of everyone, and explains it to him, and tells him he won't be killing anyone ever again. Voldemort casts Avada Kedavra at Harry, and Harry does expelliarmus, and there is a bang like a Cannon, and Voldemort's curse rebounds just like before and he immediately falls to the ground dead. There is a body, he doesn't float away like ashes, and Harry catches the wand. He doesn't break the wand, he puts it back in Dumbledore's grave after using the elder wand to repair his broken wand (the elder wand is the only wand in the world that can repair a broken wand). In doing so, when he dies, having never been disarmed, the elder wand will lose it's power and just be a regular wand.

@@KyeGuard what sensible person would take the ridiculousness that is the cursed child as canon? And technically, Harry was never in possession of all three Hallows at the same time, so he was never actually master of death. He had the stone and cloak at the same time, and was the elder wands rightful owner, but he didn't possess the elder wand. Possessing all 3 is the thing that makes you master of death. By time he gets the wand in his possession, he's already gotten rid of the stone. Besides all that, even if you did count the cursed child as canon, he wouldn't have really lost the elder wands' allegiance because he meant to be defeated, to put her off her guard. He didn't actually get beat. He allowed it to happen on purpose. Just like in the order of the Phoenix, when the DA is practicing disarming, students aren't gaining the allegiance of other students wands because they're allowing it to happen.

The fifth movie left out something really important - when we see James picking on Snape, we're supposed to also see Lily defend Snape, and for Snape to yell "I don't need help from filthy little mudbloods like her." We see a few more memories of his in the book and apart from confirming that Petunia was jealous of Lily for having powers while she didn't enough to first write to Dumbledore asking why she couldn't go to Hogwarts as well and then to start telling Lily that "they're sending you away to keep you away from normal people", we also find out that Snape was hanging out with a lot of Slytherins who ended up becoming Death Eaters - don't know if they were ever really his friends or if they just let him hang out with them. In any case he kept defending them to Lily whenever she brought up how they were always attacking Muggle born students, saying things like "It was just a bit of fun", probably out of fear that if he called them out on it they'd stop hanging out with him. Lily actually said something like "James Potter is an arrogant git - and I can see that myself without you reminding me of it every five minutes - but your friends.....their idea of fun....it's evil" but Snape was too happy over the fact that she called James a "git" to really hear that last bit. But when he got humiliated and called her a "filthy little Mudblood"......she broke off their friendship. He tried to apologise but I think it was more the fact that he'd use the word at all - "You call everyone else like me Mudblood, how am I any different?" and called him out on his other behaviour and the people he hung out with - "I've been making excuses for you for years, none of my friends understand why I even talk to you.......You and your death eater friends......see, you don't even deny it now. You can't wait to go and join You-Know-Who. Well you've chosen your side and I've chosen mine". Then a year or so later she started to go out with James. I think if James had "stolen" Lily from Snape he could've born it better - not that it would've counted as 'stealing' her, she and Snape were only ever friends, nothing more. But as much as it pains Snape to know that the woman he loved ended up marrying the man who'd bullied him through most of their school-life, what hurt him even more was the knowledge that he drove her away. He ruined his own chances with her through his own words and actions. And every time he looks at Harry, as well as being reminded of James, he's reminded of how and why he lost any chance he had with Lily - and the fact that he was the one who overheard the prophecy Trelawny made about 'the one to vanquish the dark lord' and reported it back to Voldemort, so he now feels responsible for Lily's death. He's also reminded of that when he sees Harry.

But also, it’s even more hard-hitting when you consider how Snape stood there, took those words from Harry, didn’t say a word, all the while playing, not being, the bad guy. The whole revelation scene with him at the end makes this scene so much more impactful for me.

Here's a fun fact, while the elder wand was taken by various wizards and witches throughout history, the resurrection stone and invisibility cloak were kept in the family, being passed down from generation to generation. The invisibility cloak was eventually passed on to the Potters, while the stone made its way to the Gaunt family, aka, Voldemort's mother's maiden name. This means that Harry and Tom are distant relatives

James Potter was a 'pureblood' but for all his faults wasn't racist or prejudiced. So it's not too surprising that he'd be very distantly related to the Gaunt family. I remember back in book 5 when we found out that Sirius was related to both the Malfoys and the Lestranges through his cousins marriages Sirius commented that the pure-blooded families are all related someway or another (including to both Arthur and Molly Weasley) since there are very few 'pureblooded' families. No breaks, nothing...), 5 (the final battle with Dumbledore and Voldemort was literally the best wizard duel ever), 2 (it's just darker and I love every movie that has parseltongue in it), 1 (it's the start of it all and it really brings you into the world of HP)

My favorite is also 3, lol. Just everything about it is perfect, which is quite rare. Second favorite is Deathly Hallows Part 1. Almost everyone I know has number 7 at the bottom of their list because of how little action and stuff it has, etc. Which I understand, but I just really love how dark and tense it is. It shows that everything is actually serious and not a fun magical journey now. The movie just drags on and on and yeah I love it. Sets the tone perfectly. It also has the creepiest eeriest bestest title opening out of all the films. Goblet of Fire is probably my least favorite, because of just the overall tone. The tone is all over the place and it doesn't feel linear which annoys me if that makes any sense. Story is all over the place. I also just DO NOT understand why Dumbledore couldn't have just pulled Harry out of the contest thing. He's clearly underaged and clearly didn't put his name in like wtf?

Eh, I like the third movie the most as well, but I wouldn't say it's perfect. a big part of why dumbledore even revealed the hallows to harry at all was because he knew harry could be trusted to not be tempted to use them. just like the first book where he had to not want the philosophers stone to get it from the mirror. dumbledore spent his youth like draco, entitled and because of his prodigious talent he was full of himself and ended up killing his little sister and destroying his family. he always turned down power after that, because he knew he would be corrupted- hes a boromir- even when dumbledore first found the resurrection stone he tried to use it, so desperate to apologise to his sister who's death he caused- knowing it was not safe too, and got that cursed hand. Dumbledore also turned down minister for magic numerous times because he didnt believe he could be trusted with that kind of power. Lol your reaction to Ron and Hermione’s kiss is basically Harry’s reaction in the book (Harry was present for this in the book). He’s basically like “hey guys, awesome, really I’m happy for you and it’s about damn time, but there’s kind of a war happening right now.”

And really not all Slytherins are bad! Merlin, the greatest wizard of all was a Slytherin. Regulus Black was also a Slytherin and he as the first one to find out about Voldemort’s Horcruxes, found one and tried to destroy it. Snape of course and also Slughorn (potions teacher in the 6th book/movie) - and he was also very nice. In the books there are a bunch of Slytherins that fight in the war against Voldemort (they don’t all go to the dungeons). I don’t like how they portray the Slytherin house in the movies.
@ekajkroy5456
@ekajkroy5456 2 года назад
In the book, pretty much all of the Slytherins evacuate from the room of requirement, none stay and fight on the good side except Slughorn, the head of Slytherin house. But you are right that not all are bad, for example, Bellatrix and Narcissa's other sister Andromeda, the mother of Nymphadora Tonks, is Married to a muggle born and is a major ally of the Order of the Phoenix and offers up her home as a safe house for the order during the time of the battle of the seven Potters.

Harry and Ron became Aurors, or dark wizard catchers. Ron was only an Auror for a couple of years before he joined the surviving Twin in the Weasley Wizarding Wheezes joke shop. Hermione ended up coming back and finishing her 7th year. After a career in the MoM, she ended up becoming Minister of Magic. Neville actually did end up becoming the Herbology professor at Hogwarts.
@ekajkroy5456

Neville was an Auror for a period of time too before leaving to teach herbology. And Hermione becoming minister of magic is questionable among many fans because a lot of us don't consider the cursed child to be canon due to the fact that much of the story is frankly ridiculous. Voldemort having a secret lovechild, the sweet trolly lady being an ancient being of some sort who extends her hands into sword-like claws and is tasked with keeping children from escaping the train. Her running on the roof of the Hogwarts express. Harry being a shit father and telling Albus Severus that he wishes he wasn't his son, them going back in time and saving Cedric Diggory, getting Harry killed and erasing Albus Severus and all of Harry's children from existence then Cedric becoming a death eater. I could go on and on. It's all very bizarre and shouldn't be considered canon.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but Remus and Tonks didn't die off-screen per se. The movie didn't show them get killed, but it did show them in Hall with the rest of the fallen. You were so taken aback by Fred's death and had your eyes closed when they showed it.

They actually wanted Daniel to play Harry as though he had this haunted quality about him. Even in the books, Harry is basically a blank slate for the reader to project themselves onto.

So few things - One - Neville just killed like 300 people yes? Yes. Two - While I understand their reasoning, the quick final battle that also went unseen is BAD form. In the book, Harry defeats Voldemort in much the same way, but in the dining hall with everyone around. EVERYONE knows it's over.
@jaredwhitley2778

I don’t think they mention this in the movie, but there’s a reason they all start saying You Know Who instead of Voldemort. When Voldemort takes control of the Ministry, he places a trace on the word Voldemort, so when anyone uses the name, he can find them.

They did slytherin so dirty in the movies for the sake of simplicity. In the books they’re much more complex and their whole deal is that they are cunning and will do whatever it takes to get the job done. So yeah a lot of them have low morals but they’re not all mean or bad. But the movies made them straight evil.
@gianellab.4953
@gianellab.4953 2 года назад
I mean, given how they changed Snape's story, I think the generalization kind of fits the franchise well. Think about it. Harry learns in movie 1 that all bad people came from Slytherin and everyone's supporting the idea, but he learns at the end that Snape was not bad at all and he died a hero. Thus, he (and probably others) ends up changing the way he talks about slytherins, especially with his son. It's a whole storyline of its own, and it's kind of cool. I think we shouldn't always treat every change in the franchise as bad, but try to see it through the movie logic. It makes sense...ish.

"The ones who love us never really leave us," hits so much harder when you've lost someone close. The timing of your journey, specifically, with the HP series makes it seem like you appreciate so much better the impacts of death throughout it. I haven't teared up watching the movies in a long time, but watching you go through it reminded me of how cathartic empathy can be. Slytherin wanted the most cunning and ambitious students, traits that aren't evil; you can be in Slytherin and have empathy and compassion. (Book examples are Andromeda Tonks (Bellatrix and Narcissa's sister) and Regulus Black (who died for his house-elf)) Gryffindor, white mare Patronus (not sure why it specified the color, but it did), and a wand that matches Remus'. My favorite movie has more to do with the memory of watching it with my brother: Goblet of Fire. Thank you for reminding me how much these movies mean to me.

The way Snape's memories played out in the movie, it really does look like Dumbledore is heartless, but that's not the case. When he says "Don't tell me now that you've grown to care for the boy," he wasn't saying it like, "Come on man, suck it up, we've got a job to do." He was saying it like, "You've been complaining to me about this kid that I care about for six years, and now that I've had to admit out loud Voldemort will have to kill him, you're acting like YOU'RE the one who cares about him? Seriously?"

*I’m still pissed they didn’t include Draco throwing Harry his wand after he rolls out of Hagrid’s arms.* I’m not even a huge HP fan, but it would’ve added so much to Draco’s character, especially given how much he saved Harry at numerous points.
@Threeleebird
@Threeleebird 2 года назад
And that didn't make any fucking sense because 1. Harry had already stolen his wand in the previous movie (What the hell could Draco give him? His mother's wand that wouldn't work because Harry didn't disarm Narcissa?) 2. Draco wasn't going to live if he did that, because Voldemort would kill him for betraying him. Draco didn't save Harry, it was the other way around. If it wasn't for Harry, he would have burned to death in the Room of Requirement. And I don't know what you mean by "at numerous points" if the closest thing Draco did was to not recognize Harry when his face was deformed, which saved him from living in Azkaban after the war. Draco didn't care about Harry's life, it's not like they had been friends.
@clover2739
@clover2739 2 года назад
I’m glad they didn’t because it makes no sense for Draco to do that, plus Draco isn’t much or a hero type and doesn’t need to be it was clear he wanted nothing to do with this, his family were there and he only went over because his mum called him so they can escape because his parents realised they don’t want harm on Draco either

If I recall in the books Harry never broke the Elder wand, I believe he stored it in a box with the invisibility cloak and the resurrection stone and hid it behind a painting in the headmaster's office. Its been more than a decade since I read it though so forgive me if my memory is wrong.
@Threeleebird
@Threeleebird 2 года назад
Yes, that was what happened. Harry never broke the Elder Wand (which would be like shitting in Dumbledore's grave) and actually used it to repair his wand, which broke when Hermione wanted to use it. And I guess after retrieving his wand, he gave Draco his wand back, though I think he wouldn't respond to him anymore, because Harry disarmed him, if I'm not mistaken.

I seriously recommend that you read the books. The movies really had to trim things down for the sake of time, and as a result there are a lot of things that aren’t explained properly, particularly with the last couple entries. The books in my opinion have a much better death scene for Voldemort.

You just can’t mess with powerful dark curses like Fiend/Demon fire, boy literally played with fire and got more than burned. About the Elder Wand, it’s not set in stone that Harry will always keep it, not have I stolen or some how be disarmed from it by a specially talented wizard so instead of risking a literal nuke on a stick, he destroyed it. Plus he isn’t about power.

"I wonder if they have a ride like this." You are absolutely right they do, it's called Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts. You can only find it at Universal Orlando in the Diagon Alley selction in Universal Studios. It's a good ride but I feel like it could be longer. Also I think it technically takes place during the events of this movie, as you are traveling into Gringotts as the trio are raiding the vault, though Bill is coming along as he was going to give you a tour of the bank before running into the trio.

My ranking probably goes 1) Prisoner of Azkaban (best direction, unique feeling and tone 2) order of the Phoenix- nailed Harry’s character and relationship with serious. Great villain in umbridge, cool final battle 3) deathly hallows part 2- great finale, good music and dramatic moments, best scene was snapes memories 4) chamber of secrets- fun mystery, bit of a guilty pleasure but had fun moments 5) goblet of fire- dumb and fuck, tonal clashes, messed up the story by not including stuff from the book, still had fun scenes and settings, graveyard scene and the three tasks were good. Bit of a guilty pleasure 6) philosophers stone- good start to the franchise but suffers on rewatch due to mainly being worldbuilding and less plot focused + some questionable child acting 7) half blood Prince- great ending but way too much dumb romance shit and forced comedy. Bit of a boring one until the last 30 mins although the book was really good. 8) deathly hallows part one- filler filler filler. Pretty dull. Btw this list is all opinion based and subjective. It’s my ranking of my personal favourites not necessarily a reflection of the objective qualities of the films.

I fully understand the decision to send Slytherin to the dungeons. It's not about Slytherin being bad, it's the amount of connections Slytherin students have to Voldemort's army. Many of their parents would be Death Eaters, a considerable number of them would share a mindset of joining sides, some would likely join simply based on comradery of other Slytherins joining aka their friends which would inevitably also cause others to consider it throughout the school causing an internal conflict. You'd also be pitting children against their parents and against their own classmates, which aren't things anyone should ask of them. It was the safest choice, both for Slytherin and the school, to lock them away until the battle was ended. It needs to be reiterated though, Slytherin isn't the house of evil, otherwise it wouldn't exist. Funny part about my house, I actually took 5 different tests online before going to Wizarding World, and I actually got all four houses, and Gryffindor twice, then when I got to Wizarding World I was put in Hufflepuff, so I guess I'm that :p I respect my Slytherin brothers though!

I realize this is an old video and I apologize if somebody’s already commented it to you. But I wanted to mention when Harry has been calling Voldemort you know who it’s because there was a taboo on the name and that’s how they were tracking him magically. Since Harry is basically the only wizard that will say the name they knew it was an easy way to find him. They did not explain this in the movies. I think there may have been a deleted scene but it didn’t make the final cut.
