The purpose of the annoying neighbor kid being there was for him to be counted instead of Kevin, which is why his parents don't realize he's missing until they're on the plane.

Can we just talk about how this boy was just 8 years old and he was being objectively neglected and abused by his other brother and no one did anything about that but ridicule and abuse him further?

Um, yeah, the McCallisters take it to an extreme extent. Look around the house. Every room is decorated in red and/or green. I'm ashamed to say that it's family tradition to watch this movie around Christmas and I just noticed the color scheme recently.

Fun Fact: Fuller (Kieran Culkin) (the kid that drinks alot of Pepsi), is Macaulay Culkin's real brother.

Only a movie written by John Hughes, directed by Chris Columbus, and music by John Williams could've produced a movie about a family leaving a child behind and it becoming a timeless, heartwarming christmas classic.

I would highly recommend watching Home Alone 2 as I think it does a great job at recapturing the spirit of the first one and it’s just really well done all around. Don’t watch any other of the sequels though, their not worth anyone’s time.

“Maybe he committed suicide.” Is one of the funniest jokes in this film

Daniel stern said in an Interview that when he did that scene with the tarantula, he was scared it would bite him, so they had somebody who knew his spiders tell him tarantulas are deaf so you could scream as loud as you wanted and it wouldnt hear a thing... leading to that iconic moment!

To be honest, Kevin is right about the family, they called him a *little jerk* but yet all of them are jerks. Only a rare few aren't.

Macaulay Culkin is now older than Katherine O'Hara was when she played his mother in this movie.

Fun fact it's kind of ironic that the pizza delivery guy was. Afraid of being shot at considering the fact that the bulletproof vest was invented by a pizza delivery guy who was tired of being shot at. In the dangerous neighborhoods where he had to deliver pizzas.

You know it's interesting seeing people react to Home Alone. For context the guy in yellow, the Polka King dude. That was John Candy, an incredibly famous comedic actor back in the day. He was sort of like that time's Will Ferrell. Him just showing up was like a WOW moment and anything that he did people would laugh at. Not knowing him or really having context I see a lot of reactors be like "Ew, who is this creep?" Also the gun Kevin has is a BB gun, it just uses air to shoot a little pellet.

Your right about him just looking like a regular old man. Kevin believed the story he was told about him and i guess the shovel didn't help. Maybe it was just more about the stories he was told and not so much about the mans appearance

You said it, Useless Adults! I grew up in a Chicago suburb and still live in the city. As a kid, this film hit like a tornado, quotable, smash hit in theaters, launched Culkin's career like a rocket...but over the years the backlash over this film was stronger than I anticipated. Not just the unbelievable antics, but how unbelievable the characters are as well. As a college freshmen in the south loop, I got together with a few guys in my dorm during that first cold winter weekend before school let out and we took the Metra to the burbs. They had a lot of money and free time and I had nothing else going on. We were talking about the movie and how it was everywhere when we were young, how it was considered a huge holiday juggernaut. They were drunk, I was following along, and they decided, spur of the moment, to visit all the locations from the movie that we could. We went to the church in Winnetka first, then the house in Wilmette, then Hubbard Woods park where Kevin runs with the toothbrush...that's a six mile hike in the snow with 4 drunk guys knocking back Heineken's all night long. They'd grown-up in the area and loved the attention their neighborhood had gotten from the film...and I realized that these bozos loved the movie because they were just like Kevin, and the rest of his siblings, in the movie: unsupervised brats. Tons of money, lots of free time, access to all kinds of toys and goodies and technology...and their parents were basically a non-entity. Working their asses off for their kids so they can screw around, get a pricey education and drink their way through school. Not a lot of consequences for their behavior, either. All of them missed class the following Monday and shrugged it off like "Eh, so what? I'll just retake the class in the spring." The whole time I'm thinking "Wow, Kevin's character isn't as Hollywood as I thought."

I never noticed before that that the person seated behind Kate jerks awake when she yelled Kevin's name upon realizing that they had left him behind.

btw, there are some effects hidden around the movie. here are 2 examples: the time that kid gets crushed by the chair ( or whatever ), the chair is actually rubber. and when that guy gets his head on fire, its a greenscreen. and for all the effects, the one who is responsible to pay for it, is Kevin. yes, Kevin. that kid left home alone.

I can't believe nobody is talking about her singing, she sounds amazing! Are we just gonna ignore that?? Come on guys

Something unrealistic in this movie is the flight to 🗼🇫🇷 leaving in the morning. All transatlantic flights between North America and Europe are carefully coordinated due to communication deadzone between Newfoundland and the British Isles. Eastbound flights depart the US/ Canada in the afternoon/evening and arrive in Europe the next morning. Westbound flights leave Europe midday and arrive in the states in the afternoon/evening later that day... taking into account the timezone change.

Do you watch Succession? Fuller, the little kid with the glasses, is Macaulay's brother Kieran, and these days he is playing Roman in Succession. Kieran's also in Father of the Bride, which you should definitely see if you haven't already!

Another great Macaulay Culkin film you should watch is "The Good Son". a TOTALLY surprising performance from him.

I think that worse people here are his parents. They forgot their son at home, they did not once themselves checked number of kids on plane. Not to mention they did not checked them ONCE on the plane. And one thing that really irritates me a lot that very small if anyone complain on them grabbing and pushing that woman from the phone, not to mention several free phones right NEXT to her. Policeman knocked, there was no answer. He did not had permit to enter and Kevin did not answered. What else was cop to do? Do not forget McCalisters did not allowed them to broke in.

Actually "christmas" is base on Yule, sol Invictus and other pagan celebrations, christians really don't know the date so. You can celebrate being in winter cuz that what Yule is about.

Every so often you get that one kid in the neighborhood who's just weird and annoying and can't take a hint lol. The Kids in the Hall had a recurring character like that called Gavin, who would just bug people in stores or neighbors just trying to paint their chairs.
