I didn’t realise how many iconic episodes are this early in the series! This might be the best season of all

I think Barney is a dramatic device, like a Greek chorus... a narrator of the subconscious, primal thinking and motivation. He regularly steps in fills in peoples thoughts, deconstructs their acceptable fronts and images and points out their actual motivations, sexual or otherwise. I think this device might be the reason for this show's success.
