Fun Fact: Toothless hesitating before letting Hiccup touch him was actually a glitch in the animation but the animators felt it fit so good with the what was happening, so they kept it in.

Toothless did not fly reach hiccup to rescue him. He used everything he had to climb out of that gully, and then he ran as fast as he could on foot, and then when he got to the arena, he leapt in the air, plasma blasted the bars, and dove right in.

I haven’t seen anyone speak about in this comment section but there’s a theory when toothless is trying to reach hiccup from falling in the fire, the only way he could was by biting his leg, and that’s how he became an amputee… basically they both were the cause of each others missing parts

Hey guys you can actually see right before toothless shoots him in the mouth, the big dragon was loading up with the poisonous gas that's flammable (remember the other two headed dragon!:)) That's why big explody Also if you remember, toothless is petty lol. that's why he didn't show hiccup until his father said sorry:)

i remember when my mom told me "PRESSURE CREATES DIAMONDS." and i said "THIS PRESSURE IS NOT CREATING A DIAMOND OUT OF ME. IT'S CREATING A MESS " and she said "Well maybe you're like silver. may not be as high value but equally on demand." Both Hiccups uncle and my mom has a way with words.

Toothless didn’t actually fly, he used a mixture of running, jumping and gliding to get to hiccup. And he literally crawled out of the cove, using adrenaline and his claws.

I think you missed the scene where toothless was trying to crawl out of the pit. The screeching is that sounds when he is shooting fire. Toothless didn’t fly. He was SO desperate to save Hiccup that he crawled out of the lake hole.
