This was Luther's honoring Dionne Warwick who they cut to in the audience because he was singing the song which had been a hit for her. Luther and Whitney Houston actually used to sing back up for Whitney's mom, Cissy Houston, before Luther had hit it big and Whitney was still a teenager, and Dionne is Whitney's first cousin, Cissy is Dionne's aunt. Cissy had lived with Dionne's mom Lee and her family including Dionne after their mother died since Cissy was the youngest sister and Lee was the oldest. So Luther was really considered a part of the Houston and Warwick clan.
In another post someone (sorry I don't recall the name) had mentioned the Luther and Dionne had a previous falling out, and at this tribute this was Luther apologizing, and their relationship was mended from this night on.
Luther was my "Barry White"! One of my top 10 favorite singers. Miss him, this makes me want to dig up my Luther CD and pop it in, even though I'm alone now!
Thank you for the reaction. Some singers are powerful, some creative, some have great voices, some are great singers...Some are all of the above. RIP and thank you for the years of great music Mr Vandross.

Funny that you called him a Bad Boy 😁 Luther actually has a song "Bad Boy" (Having A Party).... THANK YOU for bringing some Luther into my day today 🤙🤙Aloha🤙🤙
Yeah A.B., There isn't anything to say. It's Luther‼‼‼‼ The Woman in the audience is Ms. Dionne Warwick.(Whitney Houston's cousin..... Not her Aunt) This is Dionne's song. ( from the 60's) Check out Dionne's song: * "That's What Friends are For.". There is her original solo version, but then there are 2 other versions where she sings with others. 1 is with Elton John, Stevie Wonder and Gladys Knight. 2 is with Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston and Luther Vandross. Both are great but I think the second version was taken up a notch. Dionne has a lengthy rabbit hole to go through: *" A House is Not a Home" * "Don't Make Me Over" ( one of her earliest hits) * "Anyone Who Had a Heart" * "Alfie" ( The theme song for the movie of the same name * "Do You Know the Way to San Jose". These are just a few. Luther: *" Never Too Much" * "Here and Now" * "Dance With My Father Again. Just a few. Thank you for having such an entertaining and fun channel. You always brighten my day.
