The first rule of Monty Python comedy is, there are no rules. Nothing has to make sense, it just has to be funny, and this movie is funny, hilarious, absurd, shocking, unexpected and down right silly. And that's the point of Monty Pythion humor.

This movie was *huge* in geek/nerd culture back in the 70s and 80s. We'd go around quoting lines from it all the time... "a moose once bit my sister", "tis but a scratch", "it's just a flesh wound", "Ni!", "she's got huge... tracts of land", "let me face the peril!" "no, it's too perilous", etc. etc. etc. The movie started as soon as the credits started rolling at the very start... there are a bunch of jokes in it. Originally the knight characters were going to ride real horses, but after it became clear that the film’s small budget precluded real horses, the Pythons decided that their characters would mime horse-riding while their porters trotted behind them banging coconut shells together.......The film’s initial budget of approximately $319,000 was raised by convincing 10 separate investors to pitch in. It was funded by a coalition of rock stars and record labels such as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Elton John, Jethro Tull, Island Records, Chrysalis Records and Michael White. Still a classic film to this day.

@@deving9793 Most men would have. Galahad's entire thing was that he was the only one of the Knights of the Round Table to ever achieve finding the Holy Grail-the cup used by Jesus during the Last Supper and that supposedly was used to catch his blood during the crucifixion-because Galahad was the only one who was pure and virtuous enough to do so (the mission God charged King Arthur and his knights to do). If memory serves, Galahad finally locates it then dies shortly after, a virgin, because he's *that* pure. Pretty much his entire life was dedicated to just serving that purpose. The movie's a satire of Arthurian legend, that the knight whose entire thing is his purity is the one faced with an entire castl full of nubile teens, some not legal, but who're all horny, and that he wasn't pure enough to resist temptation.

You asked if 16 was the age of consent back then. Here’s some interesting trivia for you - Two states have a minimum marriage age of 15 years old, Hawaii and Missouri, and two states have the lowest minimum marriage age, which is 14 years old. Those states are Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

The Holy Grail is the entry point for almost everyone to Monty Python. Personally, I prefer The Life of Brian, but the corporate pirates at the opening of The Meaning of Life is one of the funniest damn things, ever…that and the biggus dickus scene from Life of Brian. The troupe really shines in Flying Circus, though, because of the sketch comedy format.

Sup Devin, man your channel is really taking off! Great job! May I add a request? I'd like to suggest 'The Hunted' with Benicio del Torro and Tommy Lee. That movie doesn't have ANY reactions, which is a tragedy in itself and is a great movie! You can start a trend. Anyway, great job and nice to see you're doing well.

When I rented this the first time I spent all weekend trying to watch it. The only reason I watched it all the way through is because I paid money and I wanted to get my worth out of it. I made the same place you did during the credits. By the time the flash of screen popped up I thought I was ripped off. A few years later, I was talking about the movie and someone convinced me to watch It again.And it's been one of my favorites ever since.

Monty Python movies are WAY better when experienced along with several friends, hopefully of different socioeconomic backgrounds, and (importantly) some of whom have "been there, done that" and are true fans so they can explain stuff. Then, with a tour guide and companions to share it with, you can really see it how it was meant to be seen.

As others have mentioned, the point of Monty Python is, there IS no point. The goofier, the sillier, the better. They had a TV show before they made their movies, and even though I find it difficult to pick just one sketch as my favorite, I’d probably choose, ‘Self-defense against fresh fruit’.

The guy almost died laughing, but at 47:14 he says "... but since I was kind of forced to watch this, I would say I enjoyed it." That is a major downplayed praise (and of course you enjoyed it :-) , so as 'punishment' for this 'lack of enthusiasm' you now háve to watch Life Of Brian 🙂

Devin, these movies confused you because you lacked context. Monty Python isn't a person, it's a comedy troupe from Britain. Most people who saw this movie before the new millennium had already seen their show (Monty Python's Flying Circus) and knew what to expect. Look that up, and you'll understand way more about the MP movies. Also, British comedy is an acquired taste for Americans. I grew up on it, so I nearly pissed myself the first time I saw this movie. If it's not your thing, that's fine... but at least give more of it a try, just to say you put effort into finding out for sure.
@deving9793
