Finally starting this bad boy of a franchise! Which is your favourite movie of the 5? Just watched Dead Man's chest on Patreon and had so much fun again! Such long films are hard to fit in all the best bits but hope you guys enjoy! www.patreon.com/SebScreen
@@jacksonporter3713 he gave it away... Never "betrayed" it... Other times he gave it away was for the sake of his plan this particular time was for a bottle of rum with zero significance and he always planned on getting it back... This time he straight up abandoned it.
Yeah I always thought the first was a borderline masterpiece and the third was damn near it. Second is good, fourth and fifth were pretty forgettable. As a whole it's an alright franchise but the strength of the first one alone will always make it a classic regardless
@@Marvelous02 Yeah, they were under a lot of heat Wich may have had something to do with the decision. not to mention the fact that nobody would go see a Pirates film without him as jack.
@@Pretzils1031 Surprised that they didn't try to randomly replace him with Mads Mikkelsen. Listen to women, don't fucking blindly believe them, his ex-wife is a sociopath.
@@brunoheggli2888 I'm a fan of both. You can't really compare POTC to LOTR. I personally think they did great with these movies when you consider they were based on a ride at Disney.
I worked in a cinema back when this movie came out, every time someone would say “Jack Sparrow” I would yell “Captain Jack Sparrow!” Also get a look at Orlando Bloom’s and Kevin McNally’s faces when Johnny says “Human hair. From my back.” They’re trying not to laugh.
Definitely up there with the very best! It introduces Jack Sparrow's character so well, just form watching it we get to find out so much about him and who he is all without a single bit of dialogue. The score sets the scene so well and it's jus a fun scene on its own! 😂
@@laura_gieger Shows himself as grand, everything he does looks like a mess, he respects his fellow pirates and despite all issues his plans work out with the exact result he needed.
Disney studio head at the time Michael Eisner had ABSOLUTELY no faith in this film & Johnny Depp in particular; he tried to cancel the project several times (and his choice for the lead was Matthew McConaughey). It wound up being Disney's highest grossing movie of the year & Depp received several award nominations for his performance.
@@lelouchvibritannia4028 Uh... American businessman and former chairman and chief executive officer of The Walt Disney Company from September 1984 to September 2005 - Nobody to you but very wealthy I imagine.
Yeah, said Johnny Depp acted too camp and kept changing the wording. Which actually worked. It's his baby. And I Wil never watch a captain jack sparrow movie without Johnny Depp
While the scene of Elizabeth fainting is fun, tight lacing was not a thing yet! Stays support the bust while providing the conical bodice shape popular at the time. Tight-laced corsets weren’t really a thing until around the 1850s/1860s, and even then women really weren’t fainting or in active pain like the film industry would like us to believe (unless it was really poorly fitted). Rant about corsetry done. Love your reactions, always a good time.
Came here looking for this comment and to share my experience as someone using an 1880 inspired corset for the past 7 months... the truth is: it is quite comfortable and works wonders for my posture. The days of back pain are over thanks to my corset. And if a could I would never be going back to wearing modern bras - but, you know, modern clothing (also, I'm from Brazil and brazilian summers are a free sample of hell which makes wearing any piece of clothing unbearable).
A channel called Early American had a recent videos on 1700s North American English colonial women's clothing. Essentially stays and corsets were the early equivolent of a bra, except it was a moderately stiff (thick cloth with vertical ribs sewn in) accessory that wrapped around your stomach/under your breasts. A shift/shirt was worn underneath it. You laced it however tight you wanted, just like you lace your shoes today. They were comfortable enough that working class women wore them, even while doing manual labor like gardening.
@@sebastianjoseph2828 indeed also Bernadette Banner, Abby Cox, as well as many other fabulous women (honestly too many to name all in one post) definitely go into better detail busting the “Myth Of The Corset.” And they’re all even more informed than me, and quite frankly I should have mentioned them in my original post. Corsetry really is an art that’s been forgotten and the mass produced corsets available today are definitely not going to be as comfortable as the custom built ones you’d expect from the period.
I dunno, mate, I’ve read a lot about corsets cracking bones and dislodging organs. There are tons of accounts of that happening, though I’m not sure what era of corseted were lost to blame. And that’s not even getting into the issues of children’s corsettes, which caused a lot of havoc for boys and girls. If this is an early prototype corsette being worn for the first time, I can imagine it being laced incorrectly and causing harm.
I don't know how i feel that this movie came out, almost 20 years ago...but i remember watching this and falling in love with the story. When I first heard that the ride was going to be made into a movie, I had no idea that it was going to be THIS good.
“Getting a bit ahead of yourself there Elizabeth Turner” yes she’s hiding her real name but also she has feelings for Will and maybe knew he was the man she wanted to marry. These first 3 movie were lightening in a bottle and some of the best movies Disney ever made (they don’t make them like this anymore)!
If you enjoy this, you should take a crack at The Princess Bride. It's very similar in tone and storytelling (plus I'd love to see your reaction to it).
We just started watching the whole movie series with our daughter since she hadn't seen it yet. I also had NO idea that Kiera was 17 at the time of filming this movie!
Actually 18, this movie came out in June 2003 and she was born March 1985. I looked it up since I was curious, I also thought she was in her 20s! I was 10 years old when it came out lol
Still believe that the first 3 are the only films, a perfect trilogy! World's End would have to be my favourite, just incredible acting, action, set pieces and music
@@killinglonliness88 well technically is a single turned into a trilogy with two single movies at the end Like how star wars has... 11? 12? Movies and 3 trilogies in it
Dead Man’s Chest is my personal favorite of the 5 but I have to say, while lots of folks are either in Will’s lane or Jack’s lane, I am in Norrington’s lane all the way and he is my favorite character 🙌
3:01 So, a funny story! I was 12 when Curse of the Black Pearl premiered and I was a die hard LOTR fan and would've died for Legolas/Orlando Bloom at the time! I went to see this movie because I knew Orlando Bloom was in it, BUT, left the movie as the biggest Johnny Depp fan ever lmao! After that I watched everything he ever acted on and have never obsessed about anyone like that ever again haha! Many years I considered this to be my favorite movie of all time! After all this time I still love it! it's really fucking fun and add a bit of nostalgia and it's just fantastic time!
I wear corsets regularly due to an old back injury :) generally speaking, corsets are bloody amazing, they relax your spine. This is not however healthy long term as your back muscles would grow weak so unless medically prescribed for issues like scoliosis, wearing them regularly might not be the best idea. Moreover, this cliche of super tight, breath taking corsets is... not very true historically speaking. Ofc women attempted to be as thin and delicate as possible for sure, many did, but not all of them. In most cases corsets were just a piece of underwear.
I've seen this probably 30 times, but I just now realized something about the scene where Elizabeth is eating and Barbosa keeps offering her more food. He hasn't been able to feel satiated hunger in years. He's trying to experience these pleasures vicariously through Elizabeth. He's desperately missed eating apples so he wanted to see her eat one.
This was my favourite movie for YEARS growing up. I was about 12 when it came out. No exaggeration I’ve seen it over 100 times. I had a little talley sheet on the side of my family’s tv and I’d put a little tick on it every time I watched it 😂 I’m 31 now so don’t watch it much. Maybe once a year now. But I can still quote it word for word 😂 I was massive JD fan from when I was 8 and saw Edward Scissorhands for the first time. I had a purse that said Mrs. Depp on it and everything. Ah the good ol’ days 😂
For so long I slept on it. "It's an adaptation of a ride. How good can it be?" I consider few films as approaching nearly perfect, but this is one of them.
There's no kissing in this movie until the end bc Keira Knightley was underage until the end of filming. Her parents signed a consent form for the kiss but Orlando Bloom refused to kiss her until she was a legal adult
The first three are amazing and are the most imp! The last two are more focused on the adventures of jack rather than any large consequences, but I love they they’re crazy adventures in the last two as it’s something sun to watch after the seriousness of the first three!
There were SO many great scenes that were improvised in this film that just made it so much better. You should really continue watching the series for much more and better surprises.
Favorite line… there’s a lot, but the Disney ride reference ( the fourth wall breaking one) is the best. Something along the lines of “You can wave that bone all day but that dog is never going to move.”
I feel sad for the greatly underrated Klaus Baldelt. He made the score for the first film but everyone assume it was Hans Zimmer, because he made the others and helped Baldelt producing the score for PotC 1.
I ABSOLUTELY love Pirates of the Caribbean, one of my childhood movies (me and my brother used to watch this all the time). Although I'm a huge fan of the franchise, I didn't really enjoy the last two movies, they just didn't feel the same to me but they're still watchable. The first three are great and my favourite one is the Dead Man's Chest, I just love Davy Jones and Captain Barbossa.
when i watched this i had absolutely no clue as to how enjoyable it is. it’s like a cartoon and i love when movies are so self aware and use their ridiculousness to their advantage
What this first movie does amazing that every sequel misses is making Will the main character, not Jack. Jack is at his best when he’s the chaotic side character, not the main hero.
2nd one is my favorite! Honestly I love all 3 of the original movies, though I know some don't like the 3rd as much. As for Team Depp or Team Bloom... when I was a little girl I definitely had a huge crush on Orlando Bloom in this movie, but as an adult I'm totally about Johnny Depp. Something about the rugged, older man look is just chef's kiss 😂
This was the first movie I worked on. My film school was on the universal backlot, and I was working part time at the theme park, so I’d walk from school to work by going through the movie sets. They were filming the city attack scene one day, and I asked if I could watch for a while. They said they’d pay me $50 to help clean up between takes and toss the pad under Orlando when he gets knocked out. Amazing fun.
No wayyy. I just found this channel and am really looking forward to this video cause I love pirates, and then I saw he's reacting to avatar the Last Airbender, Attack on Titan, Demon Slayer, Moon knight, X men and no way home. I love all of these. I see this as a win-win
Holy shit, ive seen these movies so many times and this is the first time ive noticed that the fight between jack and will is nearly perfectly synced to the soundtrack
"Keira Knightley, not to be confused with Natalie Portman" (as though Keira Knightley's career didn't get its start BECAUSE a director thought she could be confused with Natalie Portman as long as she was caked in makeup)
At World's End is my favourite of the Pirates films. The first three are just so good! I suppose growing up I was always more Team Bloom, but my favourite character has to be Barbossa. You can't help but love him!
If you like this franchise, I highly HIGHLY recommend you check out “our flag means death” it’s a new pirate series on HBO and it’s absolutely incredible
omg i just finished binge watching our flags means death thanks to ur comment and it is ingenious, even tho a bit cringey at times, especially at the beginning :DDDD
This is one of my favorite franchises and I’m so happy you’re reacting to these movies!!!!! I’m a Will AND Jack type of girl, why choose if you don’t have to?? If I had to choose, I would pick Will though. “2 daddies fighting” is the best thing you’ve said in this video so far 😂 😂 I’ve been obsessed with pirates for around 25 years (I’m 30 now) and I don’t see it stopping anytime soon! I’m going to get a pirate ship tattoo sleeve soon, I’ve been planning it for almost 10 years and I think this year it’s finally time! ☠️☠️ Thank you so much for this amazing surprise!!!
OMG I LOVE Pirates of the Caribbean! The first three films are pure pleasure! (In fact, for me you could stop there, with the vision, so as not to freak out with frustration in watching the next ones xD) That said, nothing to take away from Bloom, but #TeamDepp (my very first teenage crush right after watching this film)
Just found this channel and am very pleasantly surprised! It's a reaction channel that actually ADDS to the original piece. You're awesome keep doing what you're doing
DUDE, I'm so here for this LOOL, I actually love that you literally haven't seen any movies (Just kidding LOL) but its awesome, you changed so much since Harry Potter!
I love this franchise!! Can't wait to see you react to the rest! As far as crushes, it's pretty even between Depp and Bloom. Orlando is closer to my age, but I've been in love with Johnny since the 80s, so....
Kinda sad that Johnny Depp lost his job to play such the iconic character. I don’t know who else could do this in such a way. Plus he showed signs of being abused rather than him abusing. But they still fired him just because of an accusation rather than waiting to see if he actually did or not. I feel like the movies will have to stay where it is now. There’s nothing like this Jack Sparrow.
@@erikawilliams9558 I do think the whole story is pretty important though, just because it makes you wonder how many men are out there who have their lives ruined, although it's their female partners or spouses who abuse them physically, with nobody out there to believe them or talk about it. It's terrifying tbh
@@erikawilliams9558 I know it may not matter to you, but it does matter in the long run. The justice system is being warped into a “guilty until proven innocent” structure which is downright unfair and means peoples right to defend themselves legally is being infringed upon. Obviously allow victims a fair trial but don’t destroy lives based on accusations alone 🤦♀️
I'm so glad you're finally watching this franchise! It's so good! Brings back so many great memories. I was team Depp and still am. I started watching your reactions several weeks ago because of Marvel and I really enjoyed them. You have become my fave reactor. Keep up the good work Seb!
Justice for JD;(( I was 6 years old when I first saw this film and was absolutely taken with JD, even though he was like 8 times my age at the time hahaha. JD then, now, and forever.
I CAN'T EXPLAIN HOW HAPPY I AM YOU ARE REACTING TO POTC SERIES! These are my favorite movies! Yes, even the later ones I think are good! I can't wait for number 2, because that one is not only my favorite of the series but my favorite movie of all time! Good job Seb, you are my favorite RU-vidr and please keep up the good work.
Also I feel bad for Johnny Depp and everything that's happened to him lately even though he's been proven to be actually innocent and in an abusive relationship with his stupid wife and I hope that with the six pirates of Caribbean they don't like write him off from the series because of her problems that she's caused for him
@@eugeniapatroncosta920 because toxicity is what makes publicity run. And the publicity brews stress and toxicity further. And that's how you get Drama.
The relationship that Jack has with the Black Pearl is so... i guess wholesome? When he said "Shes only a ship mate" in the 2nd movie, it heart broke me because of all he has gone through with The Black Pearl, or its former name The Wicked Wench (idk if its in the actual movie or if its a deleted scene, but i know he says it) Idk about you... but I for certain believe, that The Black Pearl, is the only thing Jack loves other than himself... You may disagree, but I firmly believe so
To save y’all the trouble, the underwater boat trick is physically impossible to do with just two guys. The amount of air pressure trying to push the little dinghy upwards would be too great for two guys to simply drag down to the bottom of the ocean. But it does make for cool movie trick. lol
just got out of work and i was tired and just not motivated for anything cause it was exhausting but hell yesss this definitely made my evening a lot better cant wait to watch this
I lost count of how many times I saw this film at one stage, but I hadn't seen it since I was in my lage teens, until your video, then I immediately had to put it on 🤣
I'm realizing I couldn't make a reaction channel because I've seen most major franchises. That's why it's so interesting to see someone go through it for the first time.
also there is possibly two reasons why Jack walks around like he does one because he's been on a boat basically his entire life basically that he has sea legs is both his legs are used to The swinging of the boat so that's why I on land he wobbles like he was on a boat still the other reason is explaining that RU-vid video by film theorist where he's dehydrated so his motor functions are a bit off but you have to wait until you watch pirates of Caribbean 5 they'll be able to watch that video
