You mentioned how impressive it was that the actor playing Predator was able to move so well while wearing the suit. Keep in mind that Kevin Peter Hall was 7'2" (218 cm)! He also played the helicopter pilot. RIP KING

Fun fact: the Predator was voiced by Peter Cullen (including that classic Predator clicking noise) aka the voice of Optimus Prime. The man had a penchant for voicing aliens in the 80's

When Billy cuts his chest with the knife, it’s meant to force the Predator to fight him in honorable combat. Billy believed they were “all going to die,” and he decided that rather than dying while running away, he would rather die fighting. As for the self-harm, if the Predator refused to fight an opponent who challenged him to single combat despite being at a disadvantage (the self-harm) then it would be seen as cowardice on the Predator’s part. It would have been dishonorable to ignore him or kill him at a distance with his plasma caster. Even though Billy thought they would all die, he still tried to buy Dutch and the others time to get away by forcing a fight with the Predator.

He doesn’t tank the laser with his body. When Dutch takes the laser, it hits his gun, causing it to break in half and he is only injured by the shrapnel from the gun coming apart.

Dude, this movie is legendary... one of my most favorite. And remember... old action movies are always better than the new ones.

When they all went nuts on the forest it's called defoliation. They use maximum engagement to eliminate an enemy's ability to find cover or run away. It is a real tactic.

Honestly I hope you keep on with these movies, if only to get to 'Predators'. It's the third Predator movie, and honestly, I feel like it's criminally underrated. It seriously deserves more attention.

Using Billy’s laugh at the end is one of my favorite things in any film.

The scene where they're just blasting into the forest like they're trying to kill the trees seems silly, but it's meant to show how these guys who are used to being apex predators don't know how to handle being prey.

The thing I love about these 80's movies is the insane amount of practical effects and how good they look.

A little info about the Predators to help you understand what their deal is. Predators are a species and society of galactic hunters who’s only true goal in their lives are to prove themselves as worthy and powerful hunters. Once they find worthy kills they collect the skulls of their kills as trophies and to show off to the other Predators on how badass they really are. And when they find a REALLY worthy opponent (like Arnold’s character), they will disarm themselves and remove their helmet as a weird sign of respect. It’s the Predator telling Arnold, “Hey, I see you as a worthy prey. I know I’m physically and technologically advanced than you, let me get down to your size for a more fair fight.” It’s a code of honor type thing. The reason for their self destruct is that when a Predator loses a battle with a worthy opponent, they become disgraced and the only honorable way to die is to blow themselves up. It also helps prevent the opponent from stealing their technology.

You keep saying CGI. That effect was no CGI. Here's what I found: Even the famous Predator camouflage or ‘invisibility effect’ was achieved with camera techniques, not CGI. First Hall would do the scene in a suit that was bright red (as it was farthest from the green of the jungle and the blue of the sky). The scene was then replicated, but without the actors, using a 30% wider lens on the camera. Once the red was removed from the first shot with chroma key techniques, leaving an empty area, it was combined optically with the second take. The result? The trees from the second take filled in the empty area, and because of the second take’s wider lens, it left a vague outline of the Predator with the background scenery seeming to bend around its shape, creating one of the highlights of the film.

One of my favorite movies! I found it funny how you called Arnie a "Commando". You should check out his movie "Commando"! Another breakneck pace action movie of his.

If I remember correctly the space ship at the start was only added to the home release as they want to keep it suspenseful and was sold as a generic military action flick.

The pacing, music, pyrotechnics, stunts. Perfect action. CGI is getting really really good but can’t beat good practical effects. Maybe just an old school guy but I still believe in 2022 this is still top tier action.

If Dutch had let Anna shoot that gun, she'd have become prey since the Predator would know she could fight back.

The third movie "Predators" is an underrated entry in my humble opinion. The newest movie "Prey" was legit crazy good! I would dare say on the level with this one, just for different reasons.

The blast hits Dutchs gun. He turned just in time like Blaine did when the first shot grazed him. And it's supposed to be a combination of the cold water and cold mud that camouflaged him.

The team is a family that's been together a while. Remember Afghanistan? Cambodia? They are the best of the best. Best training. Best discipline. If a team member who is not the designated mini-gunner has a reason to wordlessly yell and scream while mini-gunning a few acres of jungle out of existence... Then that reason is so immediate and serious that there's no time to figure out what is going on. Regardless of whether it's offensive fire or suppressing fire.

John McTiernan had one of the best sets of back-to-back releases with this in '87 and Die Hard in '88.

About the mud hiding his heat signature... think about when you shut the water off after a shower, but before you dry yourself. You always feel cooler while wet, so cover yourself in thick wet mud, you will feel pretty cold. I remember hearing something a long time ago about how cold they actually felt covered in mud. Also, the blast hit Dutch's gun, not his body. It isn't made that clear on film.

Another classic you NEED to see is Robocop. Oh and "Starship Troopers".. I would love to hear how you see them and do you see what they really are. ;D

Everyone really fulfilled a predetermined role that worked really beautifully. Billy was the tracker, with an implied ingenious background. (talismans, knives, role as a tracker). He sensed the Predetator before he even saw him and knew to be afraid. Like animal to animal. He was the closest to "nature" so to speak from all of them.

You HAVE to watch The Terminator and T2 on here! If you haven’t already watched them on your own. It’s so good, and then there’s Arnie. Also another must watch Arnie film is the OG Conan the Barbarian.

Love this movie! But for the record, no, mud wouldn't cover your heat signature for more than a couple minutes -- it would quickly warm up to your body temperature. If it magically acted as a perfect insulator, THEN it'd hide you ... but you'd also have a heat stroke before long. I've seen a fan theory that the Predator's helmet doesn't actually see heat; it just uses false color to highlight unusual things about the environment. (After all, the jungle would be pretty close to body temperature just by itself, so humans wouldn't really stand out that much in infrared.) Hence, the mud only protected Dutch because the helmet filtered it out as unimportant. I think the theory is trying too hard and it's just a minor flaw in the writing, but YMMV.

Predator's have certain type of barbarian warrior culture and customs they hunt, they always search for bigger game/tougher pray, they also hunt for right of passage to become adult, and as u see they collect trophies of their pray

The predator species is called yautja. They live on a mostly hot planet called yautja prime and there are multiple different species of yautja for different areas of the planet. The movies don't really dive to deep into that other then the other species we see.

The Yautja (name of the predator's species) are all about the glory of the hunt. They have a preference to warmer climates but ultimately they travel throughout the universe looking for the most dangerous creatures to hunt, the more dangerous the prey the more glory they receive in killing it. They also look to take pieces of the prey as trophies, most commonly the skulls though sometimes a they may take a personal weapon or other object. If they find a particularly dangerous creature to hunt they will often strip themselves of their gear and try and kill the creature with their bear hands or as little gear as they deme necessary to make the fight as even as possible (which is why the Jungle Hunter didn't kill Dutch). In regards to why everyone always looked so sweaty in the movie it's because they absolutely were. Not only were they in the middle of the Mexican jungle for weeks during the shooting but the majority of the cast were suffering from Traveler's Diarrhea because the place they were staying at had terrible water purification.

Arnold does not get enough props for his acting in this movie imo. Even just his looks at the end. It's not a looks of triumph or "I did something great", it's of a man who's broken, beaten and has PTSD now.

The actors were badasses in real life. The actor who plays Billy the tracker had to have a bodyguard while filming to stop him from killing his co-stars. His bodyguard was to protect everyone else.

If the predator killed billy after he demanded close combat, the predator would be dishonoring their species code. Another rule was the if you are to be defeated in a hunt, you must commit suicide.

You missed the deleted scene where Dutch pulls out Captain America's shield and blocks the Predator's punch and then a cut to a 6 year old Chris Evans eating a juice pop, stops eating while watching the movie and says "What the shit!?"

Mac lost his best friend and was solely focused on revenge. his "rantings" were perfectly natural in that situation. and we assume it fought Billy honerably, although i wish we had seen it. watch Predators for the yakuza fight which was a matter of honor as well. Prey had some decent melee combat as well. and you can camo with mud to a certain degree although i think it should have see seen arnold's eyes at least since they werent covered in mud... unless arnold had his eyes closed. 🤷 as always, i enjoyed your reaction!

Late to commenting on this, but anyone that the Predator guts and skins means they were just base prey, not worth collecting a trophy from. They basically just get hung out as territorial markers, intimidation displays, and if the Predator is feeling peckish, eaten. If the Predator finds you a honorable opponent though, like it did with Billy, it takes the skull and discards the body without skinning or further defiling it. No idea what it would have done with Arnie had it killed him after the one on one fight, if it might have taken his whole body or just the head.

The scary part is that the predator didn’t actually laugh at the end it was playing back a recording of billy laughing

Facts you didn't know about the movie: Jean Claude Van Damme played the Predator in some parts of the movie, but quit production as he was tired of wearing the original suit which looked like a lizard insect hybrid. He even wanted to kickbox Arnold but the producers refused. Kevin Peter Hall, RIP, was cast as the titular character as he was more of an intimidating opponent for Arnold's character Dutch, being 7'2". Oscar Winning VFX company Stan Winston Studios designed the PREDATOR suit and would later return to the franchise for PREDATOR 2 in 1990. Half the cast and crew got food poisoning except for Arnold and Director McTiernan whom ate Spaghetti O's and PBJ Sandwiches, like Spielberg and Ford on Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Schwarzenegger would later hire his own personal Chef to give the actors the food they needed. The producers hired a bodyguard to protect people from Sonny Landham, RIP whom played Billy, as he was prone to violent outbursts. Landham said in an interview that, "We weren't making a movie, it was a survival story for all of us." It was 110° in the shade, while it was 42° at night. It rained for 2 weeks, making filming even more difficult. It was a box office success, making $100 million dollars ($350 million dollars today) against an $18 million dollar budget. It was nominated for Best Visual Effects but lost to InnerSpace. Its now considered to be one of the best Sci-fi Action movies ever made.

I always have a problem with Arnold blowing up that helicopter. That could have been their ride out of there. The dudes inside were already dead. It made no sense to me at all.

the Predator's species (poor name choice considering they're hunters) is called Yautja,and their planet is Yautja Prime,composed of mainly two biomes,jungle and desert. There are different sub-species,and you'll see them if you keep on watching the series (I absolutely recommend you to do so),this one is called Jungle Hunter,and it should be the basic type,the original species,it appears in every movie,except the latest one. So,Yautjas hunt for sport,and prefer armed preys to disarmed ones,now,I'm not exactly sure of why,someone says it's their code of honor,but I think it's more like they want to be proud of having killed the strongest prey around,and to have as much fun as possible,a disarmed prey would be boring,because it wouldn't fight back,but rather back up or run away. Once the prey is killed,they take out the skull with the spine still attached (Sub-Zero,you're welcome for the idea) and keep the skull,after they cleaned it,in their wall of trophies,you know,just for their own pleasure,to feed their ego and to flex the trophies with their friends. Another signature of Yautjas is the self-destruct device on the left arm,the reason why they use it when they're defeated and/or about to die is that they don't want their technology to be found and used by another species,they clean that area of any traces they left
