First Time Watching SE7EN Reaction... This will MESS WITH YOUR HEAD. 

I worked in a movie theater when this was released, and I'll never forget how quiet and upset audiences were at that ending. People left the theater like they were leaving a funeral. But just like John Doe said of his acts, this movie became studied and discussed and they couldn't deny the significance of what they saw.

One of the craziest psychological horror thriller movies ever made! The scene where they find the victim, Sloth, tied to the bed after a year, and everyone thought he was dead, was on Bravo's 100 Scariest Movie Moments.

Love that Kat’s finding ways to get some horror-adjacent movies in, as movies like this and Silence of the Lambs are just so good. Bravo!

The 90's had so many great movies, wish they could still put out mainstream stuff like this.

David Fincher is known for dark cinematography. I highly suggest his film "The Game" (1997) with Michael Douglas and Sean Penn. It's not horror, but you will be clinching the edge of your seat.

If you watch the beginning intro again, with the Trent Reznor music, you can see scenes of John Doe doing his stuff. He is cutting the skin from his fingertips with that razor blade. He is writing in those journals they found. He is preparing the glue solution that will be used in the "Pride" victim. He is sewing up and doing finishing touches on the leather apparatus used in the "Lust" victim. He is taking pictures, presumably of the "Sloth" victim, Viktor. He is reading about how to 'torture' his "Gluttony" victim, and has just started in on his "Greed" victim. It isn't until after the movie, that you realize that the intro was John Doe doing all these things.

Monitoring library records was illegal before the PATRIOT Act was passed after 9/11. The legislation included Section 215. It gave the FBI the ability to, as the American Library Association stated in protest of the measure, “secretly request and obtain library records for large numbers of individuals without any reason to believe they are involved in illegal activity." It was renewed multiple times, and finally expired in 2020 because of delays in budget negotiations.

This and Silence of the Lambs are two of my favorite movies of all time, glad you are not only enjoying them but recognize how well crafted they are.

Arguably the best detective movie ever made. All star cast, great atmosphere and top notch script.

The way the killer yells “Detective!” when he walks into the station is maybe the most chilling line in the whole movie.

I took a date to see Se7en when it was in theaters. We went to dinner afterward, and my date's hands were shaking so bad that the food kept falling off her fork. There was no second date. David Fincher is a brilliant filmmaker, but I've been kinda mad at him ever since.

This was my first date movie with my now wife. We saw it in the theater and when we discussed it, we discovered we both liked it so much, we saw it again the next night. This is how we knew we were made for each other. 🤣

90´s had the icons of horror/thriller/cop movies, few examples like Morgan had Kiss the girls (with Ashley Judd) Denzel with Fallen (Donald Sutherland) and Bone Collector (Angelina Jolie) Keanu with The Devil's Advocate (All Pacino) It was a nice touch that Kevin's name wasnt on the open credits, to not put the audience in some suspecious idea that he was the killer.

I only discovered this channel this week. Blasting through the older content but had to watch this one. You should watch 1408 next. Another Steven king I think.

I sat in the theatre for the entire ending credits, trying to process what I had just seen. I decided 'Heart's Filthy Lesson' is a great song. I love me some David Bowie.

What gets me, is think back to the car ride out with John Doe. Its so much more disturbing when you think back to him telling Mills to remember every time he looks in the mirror that the only reason he's alive was because John Doe allowed it and wanted it. Its so dark and messed up, and you gotta believe it would stay with Mills for the rest of his life. That Doe could've just killed him in that alley. But instead he kept him alive, murdered his wife, and drove him to kill Doe, all because Doe wanted it and allowed it. That is some top tier mind-f***ing.

This film is truly a masterpiece. You, however, are an utter delight to watch movies with. Never stop being you and sharing these reactions with us!

I've never received a strange package and not cried out, "What's in the box???"

I still remember seeing this in the theater and at the end everyone…EVERYONE just silently walked out of the movie and to their cars just in confusion and terrorof the ending . Unbelievable movie

The fact we only see the aftermath and some witnesses accounts of the crime makes it more disturbing then actually seeing the deaths happen

Two of my absolute favorite twist movies star Kevin Spacey. Se7en. And The Usual Suspects. Which is still my favorite movie of all time, and I'm 51.

The opening credits are perhaps the best ever put to film.

When I saw this in the theater, I jumped about 5 feet in the air when the Sloth guy coughed when they found him. Brilliant screenplay and great performances, and you were entertaining and made a great reaction vid, as usual.

I remember seeing this in the theaters and after it was over we just sat in the parking lot discussing it forever. We wound up driving to Denny's to warm up, get food and keep on talking. I think it was just that none of us wanted to be alone because it creeped us out so much.

Envy and Wrath were the final 2 sins. A once in a lifetime movie.

One of best dialogue pieces was in the police car with John Doe. Kevin Spacey may be a creep in real life, but man can he play the bad guy with an expertise I've never seen before. So well cast, acted and David Fincher's brilliant directing. I usually say "fun reaction" like I usually do, but that ending as brilliant as it was, was not fun. One of the best detective/crime drama's ever made.

The incongruous moments of humor make this an even more amazing movie. Like when Pitt says "the Marquis de Sharday." I consider this superior to "The Silence of the Lambs" because of the relentless dark tone, and the fact that there's no Catherine Martin walking away holding Precious at the end. Brilliant.

Glad you finally got to watch this, and glad you liked it! Great film. Fincher is a hell of a director. 'Zodiac' is another terrific and horrifying thriller. If you ever do series - 'Mindhunter' is a series by Fincher that's amazing.

The 90's was such a great decade for movies, arguably the last great decade. As well as this masterpiece there was the likes of Silence Of The Lambs, Terminator 2, Heat, Jurassic Park, L.A Confidential, True Romance, Thelma & Louise, The Matrix, Pulp Fiction, Saving Private Ryan, Fight Club, Schindler's List, Fargo to name just a few. The role of John Doe was uncredited when Seven first came out at the insistence of Kevin Spacey himself, he was a well respected up and coming actor back then and he wanted his appearance to be a surprise for the audience.

20:15 I always loved him telling the homeless woman to eat. Like, "I know you're probably gonna use some of this money for drugs or alcohol, but please, at least feed yourself." No extorting or judgment, just a transaction and concern.

I like the idea that cops shave their chests before they make a big arrest, just in case they happen to be shirtless in any ensuing photos.

The most twisted thing for me is that John Doe doesn't actually kill anyone. He drives each one to kill themselves or die as a result of their particular sin. Mills is pushed to become Wrath, the 7th "deadly" sin but doesn't die before the movie ends. However, John Doe had the assurance that Mills will eventually die one way or another as a murderer driven by vengeance. Mission accomplished.

I like that you're starting to move from horror to thrillers. Silence of the Lambs and now Seven! Both amazing movies. The ending in this one caught me way off guard my first time watching.

My friend was really shook after we saw this on its original release date, and we had go to Dennys afterwards to talk. I was fascinated and couldn't stop writing about it. After many years, I've come to the conclusion that the movie's core message is about the transfer of love through the ultimate sacrifice. William and John Doe are both exceptionally smart and therefore aware of all the pain in the world; but best they can do is keep their distance and scorn it. David and Tracey come the closest to a love that can remain hopeful enough to bring life into the world. John Doe is essentially saying: if your love is legitimate, heal all of us who suffer in our sins. True love would be willing and able to accept crippling loss and still transfer it to worst of the worst. Since David is unable to act beyond his own ego's conception of love, the reality of a transcending healing love is made ever more clearer, yet even more elusive.

"Se7en" was somewhat controversial at the time for its extensive use of handheld "shakycam" footage. Fincher, who had come out of the world of music videos was more open to using shaky camera footage in a world where movies were traditionally all about NOT shaking the camera, and instead opted for as steady footage as possible, unless some sort of special circumstance dictated shaking in a particular scene. In fact, a device was invented in the mid-1970s called the Steadicam, which used a man-worn harness and spring loaded arm that isolated the camera from the operator's movements and gave just about as steady footage as traditional crane and dolly shots using the freedom of a photographer's own two feet. So to go to pure hand-held during heavy movement scenes was quite the shift in philosophy. Of course, people today don't react to this, as shaky camera footage is a staple in modern action movies of any/all sorts. :P I remember being quite jarred by all the shaking during the John Doe chase sequence, back when I saw this movie in a theatre when it was new. End of oldtimey trivia... :)

This is my favorite thriller from the 90s. Dark and atmospheric, Fincher does thriller SO well. His other thriller offerings are worth checking out as well. The Game, Gone Girl, Fight Club, Zodiac. I wouldn't called Fincher's work "horror" per se, but a lot of them have a horror feel, so I say definitely include them on your reaction list. :)

Best "Seven" reaction on RU-vid. It is, as you rightly say, a masterpiece - and I think it's still David Fincher's best film. You have fine taste. Other Fincher films worth a reaction: "Gone Girl", "Zodiac", and "The Game" - they're not *really* remotely "horror", but worth a look.

Se7en is one of my absolute favorite movies of the 90s because it had an uncompromising vision and style and it wasn't afraid to let the bad guy win. This was my very first Kat reaction video btw and now Im subbed UP😊. I gotta say, your facial expressions coupled with your random arm flailings are just... priceless. Great reaction Kat, i love this movie it´s a masterpiece of cinema, the dialogue is sharp, the performances immaculate, and the twists continually surprising. There are some fun-facts about it Brad Pitt refused to make the movie if studio executives changed the ending, he came up with the movie’s ending. He thought that Mills should be the one to kill John Doe, which would give the movie a somber, realistic ending without the big, satisfying moment of retribution that most of these movies have. Initially, executives at New Line Cinema despised this ending, and tried to have it changed. However, Pitt threatened not to do the movie if they changed the ending, and they were forced to relent. Leland Orser went to extreme lengths to prepare for the interrogation scene. In order to nail his intensity in the interrogation scene, Leland Orser did rapid breathing between takes to saturate his body with oxygen and allow him to hyperventilate at will. He also deprived himself of sleep for a few days before shooting the scene, so that he’d look suitably disoriented. David Fincher’s vision for this movie was to essentially make a black-and-white movie in color. He brought on cinematographer Darius Khondji who at the time, was known for shooting perfume commercials to pull off this effect. The signature gloomy look of this film was mainly achieved with a chemical process called “bleach bypass.” Plus, the silver was left in the film stock, which added to the darkness of each shot. Brad Pitt really did injure his warm while filming, so his cast was real and had to written into the movie. Morgan Freeman’s son Alfonso, had a brief cameo as a fingerprint tech. While shooting the gluttony scene, the production poured seven crates of cockroaches all over the set. Reportedly, one of them even crawled in actor Bob Mack’s underwear. The sloth victim Victor was played an actual actor, Michael Reid MacKay, who weighed only 90 pounds during filming. Due to his incredibly slender physique, he’s played roles of creatures/ghosts/monsters in The Monster Squad, Insidious: Chapter 3. During the Greed scene, actor Gene Borkan was covered in so much fake blood that he got stuck to the floor. Despite being a movie about a brutal serial killer, only one kill is seen on screen, when Mills shoots John Doe at the very end. Ironically, 6 years after the movie was released the Patriot Act gave legal permission for library records to be pulled, which this movie made a big deal about being very illegal in 1995.
