This game is really popular around south east asia region. The master-champion in this game is non other than Thailand. FYI, 'sepak' means 'kick' in Malay Language, while 'takraw' means 'hand-woven rattan ball' in Thai Language. Although some players nowadays may use plastic material for the ball.

Sepak Takraw, in my opinion, is the most fun to watch sport. I'm not a sports person but during Intramurals in school, Sepak Takraw is my favourite thing to watch next to Volleyball then Table Tennis.

The ball is made of Rattan or plastic. It's quite hard and if you got hit by it, it is painful. I got hit once and it leaves a bruise. It became a lesson for me to stay as far away as possible from sepak takraw courts if their are players playing to avoid another accident

sepak takraw is former national sport of the Philippines but in 2009 we replaced it by Arnis (a kind of martial arts using wooden stick) because takraw is originally from our brother Malaysia. Still takraw is popular in Philippines and the rest of south east Asia.

I think it's the ultimate sport. Because it is an exciting tournament throughout the tournament and uses a high level of skill to play and Thailand has always been the world champion.

Many south east asia claim sepak takraw as their traditional game. As am from malaysia, i would say that is malaysia traditional games too. And "sepak" is actually malay word translate to "kick" and "takraw" if am not mistaken from thailand word for " ball matting from bamboo".....

this sport was invented way long before the volleyball game. and while the west was playing handballs such as volleyball and american fooball, we the east had been playing with the feet which were soccer(football) and sepak takraw.

Soon after the sport goes international .. being in Asian Games, Sea Games and every other international sport competitions.. I can tell you one thing, that ball does not feel good when it hits your face after being spiked like that lol it's used to be made of rattan. The modern ones are made of some kind of synthetic fibre and it hurts like hell when it hits your body, it feels like being hit by a 2 X 4. As players if you haven't had your face scratched by the ball during your journey, you're probably still a newbie 🤣

As remember, we practice Sepak takraw since primary school that quite so hard for reaching this level. 360 degree kick is Thai style as side back kick Malaysia style. Now the style is mixed for the more powerful one.

Sad to say.. this sport is not in the Olympics but it definitely deserves a spot in the Olympics ... it's not even known internationally yet.. but slowly gaining popularity and some countries (specially European countries) recognizing and start playing the sport. This sport is so popular here in South East Asia where I am from (the Philippines). It's basically called kick volleyball by some, it's actually volleyball and football combined and add some gymnastics skills on it. Players are allowed to use any part of the body to hit and defend the ball except the hand. Like in volleyball each side are allowed 3 touches of the ball (originally it is a hand woven ball made from rattan but nowadays it is usually made from synthetic plastic ) before sending it to the other side, but in Sepak Takraw a player is allowed to have those 3 touches all by himself.

Philippines But it keeps on changing... That was the top 3 who's almost keep on battling in supremacy... I'm a Filipino and during my high school I been playing it.. In my college I was a varsity player and goes anywhere in the Philippines to compete locally but I failed to compete internationally... But I'm happy though.. And the spark are still in there burning... 💪❤️ About the ball... 😅 Aside from the local rattan balls.. The competition standard now is made in plastic... And super hard... You can get bruises and injured for sure... 😂

The sport is mostly a South East Asian phenomenon, and I would argue even in South East Asia. The popularity of the sport is slowly dying. These days you have Football, Tennis, Badminton (Famous in South East Asia), etc. It is hard to compete because other sports have bigger exposure, they have bigger investors. Even the government are reluctant to invest in Sepak Takraw. Because you cannot win an Olympic Medal by being a nation that is good at Takraw. I do hope one day, the game will get more exposure and perhaps some investors will want to invest big money in it.
