When Clint picks up the note and reads it- "See you soon, idiots" and he hands it to Tuco and says "It's for you" 😆 my dad LIVED for that little joke. This movie reminds me of him like no other and I miss him terribly.

My favorite is Once Upon a time in the West. I saw it in a drive-in theater back in 1968.

33:52 "I don't want this movie to end. It's so good." Said right BEFORE one of the five manliest scenes in movie history. Awesome.

Sergio Leone's so-called "Dollars trilogy" culminating with The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly is quintessential for the Spaghetti Western genre and really helped redefine Westerns as a whole. Much to the credit of Leone's directing and Ennio Morricone's scoring, as you point out. Prior to these, Westerns largely had very white hat/black hat characters with little in the way of subtly or nuance, and overly mythologized the Old West for much of the US. As to the coolness and general badassery projected by Clint Eastwood, I defer back to a quote about him from Leone: "As an actor, he has two expressions: with and without the hat." 😊

It's a real classic in a genre. Mind you, Leone was a maverick in the genre at that time so his films were not standard western fare.

In childhood, I liked Clint Eastwood in this. As a young man, I liked the work of Eli Wallach. As an older man, the unabashed corpulent capitalist crassness of Lee Van Cleef is what I like. Specifically, because of how little screen time he has, but how big he plays it. He needs no back story. It's all up to him on the face (his face) to show it without saying it.

Sergio Leone was a master of CINEMA art... And Ennio Morricone wrote the music, but directed by Leone, so this style of music is directly intended by Leone. They did another masterpiece, to me, the BEST MOVIE EVER: "Once Upon A Time In The West"... Watch this piece of art, story telling, framing, revealing, all with one of the best score ever. The kind of movie you'd like to see in Theater...

The line about, "When you have to shoot, shoot, don't talk!" wasn't even scripted. It's one of the most memorable lines from the movie, but Eli Wallach improvised and ad-libbed that line... he added it.

Tuco (Eli Wallich) was my favorite character. He also had a good role in the Magnificent Seven(1960). Great Reaction 👍👍👍

Another fab western - ‘Once Upon a Time in the West’, possibly the best opening scene of any film. Also, Ennio Morricone’s compositions are iconic.

The best Western ever made and perhaps, one of the best movies of all time period

"You see, in this world there's two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig." The best western of all time, hands down. That bridge scene sometimes gives me nightmares. I dream that men are still fighting over the bridge, completely unaware or despite that the Civil War has long been over. I understand it is weird for someone like me to fixate on, but the Civil War is a hobby interest of mine and such a meaningless battle is horrifying to me. Fun Fact: Clint Eastwood wore the same poncho through all three "Man With No Name" movies without replacement or cleaning. Skeleton Key Fact: The skeleton found by Tuco (Eli Wallach) inside the wrong coffin at Sad Hill cemetery was a real human skeleton. A deceased Spanish actress wrote in her will she wanted to act even after her death. Prequel Fact: This is a "prequel" to A Fistful Of Dollars (1964) and For A Few Dollars More (1967), as it is set during the American Civil War while the other two movies are set afterward. Towards the end of this movie, Blondie (Clint Eastwood) acquires his trademark poncho. It works when you take all three movies as a whole. Historical Fact: Though no specific year or date is stated in this movie, at least part of it takes place during the New Mexico Campaign of 1862. This is confirmed when the hotelkeeper and Tuco mention the retreating Confederate General Sibley (real-life Henry H. Sibley) and the advancing Union Colonel Canby (another historical person, Colonel Edward Canby). This is consistent with the campaign that took place between February and April 1862 in the Union territory of New Mexico and the Confederate state of Texas.

One of my favorite movies of all time, and soo, sooo glad someone else understands the depth of its quality. I hope, Mr. Valentine, that when you have time, that you react to the Danish symphony performance of the soundtrack. It's a popular re action/music video, but few of the reactors have ever seen the film. TY

Tuco is one of my fav characters of all time. He steals the scene every time.

Ennio Morricone was an absolute soundtrack legend, who got his start with these "spagethi/italo westerns".

If you haven't seen them already, I would strongly recommend the first 2 movies in this trilogy. 'A Fistfull of Dollars' sets the prototype and 'For A Few Dollars More' is just as good (I would argue better, though many disagree) as 'Good, Bad, Ugly'. Clint and Lee Van Cleef are both great, Leone perfects his style, Morricone nails the soundtrack again, and the final duel scene is every bit as tense, epic, and chill-inducing as the duel at the end of the 3rd movie.

I remember watching this movie with my late wife, rest her soul, me having seen this movie about a thousand times, but for her it was the first. The bathtub scene with Tuco made her laught out loud. "When you have to shoot, shoot, don't talk".

Great reaction. Loved the movie. My favorite part is the end when he put Tuco in the noose. He was actually protecting himself and giving tuco his money. This way he wouldn’t get double crossed

You are absolutely right that Tarantino was inspired by Sergio Leone's work. I think Tarantino said himself that this was his favorite film of all time.

This is certainly a great one, and I appreciated your enthusiasm for it. However, my favorite western, which might more accurately be called an anti-western, is “Unforgiven.” All of Clint Eastwood’s other westerns are good, too, especially “The Outlaw Josey Wales.” Great older westerns include a couple featuring Gregory Peck, “The Gunfighter” (1950, the first psychological western) and “The Big Country,” and of course two iconic classics, “High Noon” and “Shane.” Most recent great western is “Open Range.”

Pulp Fiction is the only Tarantino movie I've seen but even here I notice immediate parallels like the humiliation of having someone come and eat your food without asking. The scene @23:00 where Ugly is being tortured with the music outside is reminiscent of the origins of the "barbershop quartet" where, as I understand, they sang songs to mask the sounds of screaming as the patient's teeth were being pulled (because barbers also worked as "dentists" back in the day). Wonderful commentary and enjoyed learning some new words used in context as always: 1. wheedling: flattering with the intention to urge someone to do something 2. caterwauling - yawling like a cat 3. imprecation: a curse invoked on someone 4. dissembling: pretending with the intention to deceive.

I loved Van Cleef as Angel Eyes as well. His character was good too

Ive had tons of moments in life were i thought this or that movie was the greatest of all time like The Godfather & Schindler's List & Saving Private Ryan but i honestly think this movie is the greatest movie ever made after all these years , its a movie i can watch daily & never get sick of watching especially with the amazing music & i notice a new detail each time i watch this & ive been watching this since a kid in the 90's , this movie has a bit of everything in it❤

Finally watched your reaction to this. Realized at 24:11 (the scene from 24:11 to 24:34) that you are watching the restored version of the movie. Several scenes that were cut and left out of the US release for years were finally remastered and added back in about 2003-ish. Since these original cut scenes were never dubbed in English, Clint Eastwood, Eli Wallach and several other voice actors (replacing actors who were unavailable or had passed away) were brought in to record these lines in their voices. This will explain why Eastwood's voice sounded a little older, and Lee VanCleef (the Bad) sounded completely different at 24:30 - as he passed away back in 1989. All in all, great reaction as usual.

If you want to get tecchnical the voice over is not good however I find it charming for this movie. Most of the actors were Italian and did not speak english. Sergio just told everyone to speak thier lines in their native language. In fact Sergio only spoke Itailian and some french which he communicated to Eli Wallach who spoke french also.

This movie came out at a time when John Wayne was king and good cowboys wore white hats and bad cowboys wore black hats. This is the first series to break that mold and be real-ish and gritty. And of course John Wayne hated it. Good the bad and the ugly is a prequel to the Dollar series. Even though it was made last. And Lee Van Cleef was so good he got to play two different characters.

I only watched this film a couple of years ago after I had played the video game RED DEAD REDEMPTION 2. That game was absolutely amazing (maybe one of the best video game stories and gameplay ever made) -- despite the fact that I had never watched a western. So, I began watching westerns after it. This was a very good film (and one of my favorite westerns).

Look up The Danish National Symphony play The Good the Bad and the Ugly. It is the greatest performance I have ever heard. I have this soundtrack on vinyl, my dad got it right after the movie came out. A must listen.

12 Angry Men.....WATCH IT! One of single greatest films of all time. Filmed in 1957, shot in black and white, and it's all set in one room, with 12 men. It's IN-CREDIBLE!

This is One of the greatest westerns ever made. I've watched it many times before. It actually became a weird tradition that me and my dad have.🙏🏽 We watch it together every Christmas. It was a tradition where he would visit my granny (his mom) on Christmas and rent this to watch with family and family friends at her house🤙🏼👍🏼 We did it every year until she passed. I recently just brought that tradition back like last year but now it's just me and my dad 😁 I just noticed a flaw the other day or i might be trippin. Didn't Tuco find the tobacco on Carson when he searched him? If so then how did Angel Eye's bandits give Angel Eye's the tobacco? 🤔🤷🏻‍♂️ I didn't go back to check. Great reaction to a great movie. It's as close to perfect as it gets. Brilliant Leone directing and Colli's cinematography framing in on some great faces. Ennino Morricone's music is beyond words. My top favorite "westerns" are this one and "Quigley Down Under" (with Tom Selleck and a great villain in Alan Rickman). Great score too (not Ennio Morricone level, but anyway..) Worths a reaction!

This is a great film, but imho a little overrated (that catchy title helps a lot with that). The pacing leaves a little to be desired and the three leads forced into uncomfortable alliances in the hunt for gold is a bit too contrived and unbelievable. For a bang bang action spaghetti western I would always prefer the film Leone made before this _For a Few Dollars More_ (also staring Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef). For a lengthy epic operatic western I'd prefer the film Leone made after this _Once Upon a Time in the West_ However, the one thing that this film has that is perfection would be the score. Ennio Morricone was legendary and did (amongst other things) the music to all the Sergio Leone westerns. The main theme is iconic and I was familiar with it as a toddler many many years before ever seeing the film "The Ecstasy of Gold" is used a lot by other people these days (so it wasn't surprising you recongised it when Tuco arrives as the cemetary). Although my favourite piece is "The Trio" used during the final stand off - without the music that is just five minutes of 3 guys looking awkwardly at each other, but with the music it is incredible.
