What Haymitch says, "You never get off this train" breaks my heart. Because the Capital plays it that once you win the game, they leave you alone other than once a year, you have to help tributes from your district. But nobody talks about how you basically become slaves of the Capital. Like Johanna says, "There's no one left that I love". That's what happens when you defy the Capital.

There is also the fact that all the victors that were in on it were all wearing gold and not even Katniss noticed. It's why Joanna got naked in the elevator. She only had on makeup and it was gold. Beetee's training outfit is lined with gold which is why Finnick laughs when he walks past him. All the victors were trying to send subliminal messages to Katniss to let her know they were on her side right in the capital's face and no one noticed lol. Also...I never knew I needed to hear someone say, "Ah shit, it's Mr. Clean," with such fear before now...thank you. lol

Cinna's only decoration is his gold eyeliner; I wonder if that was why the team color was chosen - it's from the one Capitol citizen that Katniss trusts.

I really love peoples first impression of finnick because he’s really different from what you imagine and the assumptions as well! Finnick really did the most to save katniss and Peeta throughout the hunger games and there’s more to him as well but I’ll wait until you react to the next movie since it’s spoilers, however most people don’t pick up on it since the movie brushes over it. All I have to say tho some of the things you said when you first saw finnick hits differently when you know more about him! Also that isn’t anything on you! That’s the point with what they were trying to do, even Katniss thinks the exact same things

Peeta's mother used to beat him. In the books besides physical strength was very smart, the capital loved him (he made people from the capital like katness) and he lost his leg in the first game, that's why he have some difficulty in some stuff. in the books he painted rue on the ground as a form of protest, remembering that despite the capital trying to make people forget it was a child who died because of them. Joana and Finnik are amazing

Just a casual reminder Katniss is deadass 17 during this film, not only does she develop PTSD and likely already had C-PTSD from the living conditions in Panem but developing such severe trauma before your brain fully develops permanently alters your perception of the world. I’m not happy that they glazed over Katniss losing her hearing in one ear from the explosion at the careers’ camp or the fact that she had to sacrifice Peeta’s leg for the sake of keeping him from bleeding out but I’m just so glad Suzanne didn’t let them brush over the trauma. I was around Katniss’ age when my trauma started manifesting in similar ways to hers, it hasn’t been all that fun seeing people react to her character development with such distain when I know exactly why she acts the way she does but Suzanne’s accurate portrayal of ptsd potentially saved my life and I’m hopeful that the visual representation of it (performed amazingly by Jennifer) will not only help other people recognize their own symptoms but make the general public more sympathetic to the realities of trauma.

Katniss suffers complex traumatic stress disorder. It's similar to ptsd but unlike ptsd which is brought about by an event or events that happened in the past, her trauma is ongoing, and something she's been dealing with since she was a child.

16:49 The new Tribute Training Center was filmed at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis, which was also used in the Loki series on Disney+. Every Labor Day weekend, that same hotel is the center of the five convention hotels that host DragonCon, one of the biggest general geekery conventions on the East Coast. I've BEEN on that specific elevator from the scene at 18:43. I've had borderline PTSD from the elevators in that hotel from how busy and overcrowded they get during DragonCon. Also depending on the time of night during the convention, you may find yourself on those elevators with cosplayers wearing only *slightly* more than Johanna Mason was at the end of that scene.

Because we know producers cast people a lot for looks, we should be aware that they are capitalizing on the fact that too many people just look at the 'flesh' and not the 'character' of people (yes, actors as well as in real life). It's a sad commentary on society that this is true. I love watching people dis Finnick in the beginning cause it's too cute when they realize they were so wrong about his character, that he was so good he had them fooled, :)...I adore these movies and really appreciate your reactions!

Out of curiosity I found out what the other 2 quarter quells were like. The 1st one (25th Hunger Games) was basically election style. The 2nd (50th Hunger Games) was traditional but doubled. That’s instead of 2 (1 boy & 1 girl) from each of the 12 districts it was 4 (2 boys & 2 girls). And from what I read the 2nd quarter quell was the one Haymitch won.

I feel like, during your reaction, you missed A LOT of the point of PanAm and it's inhabitants. You kept saying no one would buy the queue cards and the corny lines, etc. THAT was the entire point. They were eating it up. They didn't care. It's a commentary on society. What will we EXCUSE as entertainment?
@Drummer4President
@Drummer4President 2 года назад
You mean the people in the capitol were eating it up right? The people in the districts clearly weren’t. The games aren’t entertainment for them. Everything about them is mandatory for the people in the districts. Even watching them is mandatory. It’s on all the screens all the time until there’s a winner. It’s even more clear in the books that several of the districts are rebelling. The 3 finger salute from district 11 was a planned thing, not just because of Katniss speech. District 8, were in open rebellion. The capitol starved them for a couple weeks then bombed one of their factories to get them back in line.

The quarte quell is celebrated every 25 years to remember the capitols victory over the districts. It was decided the stipulations would be chosen from a random envelope kept in a box in the capitol. Snow changed it so that Katniss would have to be in the games again. Haymitch's game was a quarter quell I believe the stipulations for his was 4 tributes would be chosen instead if 2. In the books it said there were enough for all the way up to the 2000th hunger games.

Haymitch actually was in District 12 the whole time before the events of the first movie. He was just hidden away in 12's Victor's Village, a place where all the victors of each district live in lavish mansions with infinite rations and basically whatever they want. He was there alone, since 12 has no other victors, drinking his sorrows away.

Well technically District 12 did have another victor before Haymitch but yeah, she was long gone by the time Haymitch won his games and became a mentor

@@bluet. Yes I know and I'm super excited to see it however, while we may not know what happened to Lucy after Snow's gunshot, she is dead by the time of the original trilogy because in the first book during the reaping before Prim gets picked, Katniss talks about how District 12 only has 2 winners and that Haymitch is the only one still alive

I don't think Peeta gets credit for how strong he is. He's not a physical fighter, but emotionally he's incredibly resilient, intelligent, and aware. I think him as the main love interest is a testament to the "female gaze" and the writer being a woman. He represents so many characteristics that women value in a partner. He recognizes Katniss's strengths and capabilities, he is genuinely supportive, he doesn't try to diminish who she is to be dominant (not in private and not when potentially pressured in the public eye), he is an emotional rock, capable of healthy communication even when he's hurting (thank God, because Katniss struggles with this, but I think she grows with him). I think sometimes he diminishes his own value because he's impacted by messages of what he's "supposed" to be, but I also think he knows who he is and stays true to that. Peeta is probably much closer to a healthy woman's ideal man than most movie depictions tend to represent.

I hesitated for a long time before I gave these movies a chance. There were a lot of franchise movies at the time, or I thought it would be just for our tween demo. Worth a watch. For anyone.

I was afraid to watch these movies, too, but because this was the only one of the YA trilogies I could enjoy reading. I was sure they’d spoil good books with bad adaptations. Very happy to say I was wrong.

This is my absolute favorite reaction anyone has ever had to this movie. You paid so much attention to things like scenery, character development, the way certain shots were filmed/directed, etc. Can’t wait to see you react to the final two films!

Why the victory tour? To further rub it in the faces of the Districts that their kids died. To further crush any spark of rebellion by showing off the person who ensured their kids never came home.

Also Peeta painted rue on the floor to show the what these people are really doing and to also remind katniss what they are fighting for Like someone else said Peeta’s mother beats him and puts him down, they hinted and showed a bit of it last movie but it really wasn’t obvious so when Peeta says about how he has no one who needs him and stuff it does feel like out of nowhere

Man I still think Catching Fire is one of the best book-to-movie adaptations. Like I tried to picture how the arena worked in my mind when I was reading the book; the movie did such a perfect depiction that it really made that whole thing clearer to me.

Well, Finnick's role is one he's played for a long time. He acts the way he does so the Capitol won't kill his family and loved ones. Which is also why he sleeps with anyone the Capitol tells him to.

This movie shows what it means to be a victor...and it means trauma and doing what the government wants you to do or you can be messed up. And imagine Hamish's experience as victor. He probably tried training people for real at first and they all died. The PTSD from BEING a victor, including survivor's guilt, then investing kid after kid and seeing them die, he was a broken man with nothing to look forward to except more dead children he couldn't help. The ONE thing that a victor could count on was never having to face the arena again...until...and what are those victors going to do when that ONE thing is taken away... Third movie is worth watching just to close it out. But yes...this was the best of the franchise. And the most horrifying.

I know you said you don't like the idea of allies because it makes the games go by quicker but the games can actually last quite a while. The 74th ( 1st movie ) went for 18 days. I believe the longest game was something just over a month. Also, allies are a pretty vital part of the game depending on your playstyle. Careers ( district 1, 2 & 4. Although they only have 1 and 2 as careers in the movies for whatever reason ) Careers ally almost every game so they can take out the biggest threats and as soon as that's done, whoever wakes up first usually kills everyone. Or you could play the way Johanna played her games ( don't remember which one, I think it was 70th or 71st ) but Johanna played the weak card, showed everyone during training that she sucked so she got a low score so nobody thought she was a threat then just went savage on everyone when the games started.
@Drummer4President
@Drummer4President 2 года назад
Johanna was even smarter than that. She didn’t go savage at the start of the games, she played the weakling for all the games then just went savage at the end when everyone else had already mostly killed each other lol

Actually, in the books Katniss had nightmares every single night about things from the games, the mutts (which had the eyes from the fallen tributes in the books) turning to other people from the game she had killed, coming back killing her, hunting her and worse. Then Peeta was the onluy one who could help her sleep.

Most people from don't know how to swim, including Peeta. Also, Peeta is the main person, besides maybe her sister Prim, that literally keeps Katniss "sane". Peeta is the strategic, intelligent, well spoken, charming, master manipulator and observer. They new that Katniss wouldn't have been very able to "sell" herself/image to the Capitol or get her to work with them, without Peeta's calming influence on her and his ability to make her look good and appealing infront of an audience.

Every 25th Hunger Games, to *really* drive home that this is punishment for the Districts rebellion, they add a twist. The 25th Hunger Games, they had to vote on who went to the games. To remind them that they had *chosen* to rebel. The 50th Hunger Games, the one Haymitch won, they took twice as many tributes as usual. To remind the Districts that for every one of them that was killed, two Capitol citizens died.

I think you were joking? But as for why District 11 is mostly/all Black people, canonically I think District 11 is supposed to be the southern part of the US: Georgia, Alabama, Florida, etc. (Also the fascist regime that forces children to murder each other is also a /tiny/ bit racist.) /jk (Also I giggle a little bit every time you call him Peter - his name is Peeta, but Peter is my dad's name lol) Also, that joke about Finnick getting strippers/hookers made my cackle considering his book bg - in the books, after he won his games, (at 14), he was forced into prostitution. I feel like there's a bingo card somewhere of all the different ways a culture can be fucked up, and Panem hits all of them.

@@andrevaughn6980 if I remember correctly (it’s been a few years since I’ve read the books), Haymitch was the first to understand and utilize the force field to his advantage. There were twice as many tributes in his game but he won because he manipulated the system, and Snow killed his entire family.
