There's no denying the film has a unique concept that works quite well for it.
@xNathyRibeiro

But it has that same premise aa divergent that "oh it's just an experiment about humanity, when you get out it's the Real apocalypse" and that part is boring 😭 At least the hunger games is really a dystopian movie and the games are real, the world is as it is in the first one etc.
@v.vlenmf05
@v.vlenmf05 10 месяцев назад
@@xNathyRibeiro but the saga of books The Maze Runner it's a lot better than Divergent. I'm a fan of The Hunger Games but The Maze Runner it's just other type of dystopia, Hunger games has so much political and cultural crises that I find it heavier to read. For me the three sagas have such unique ways of portraying a dystopic world but obviously it's the same genre, it's like watching Sci-Fi space movies, all of them are the same thing about earth dying and modern stuff to find a solution or leave the planet lol
@propriov
@propriov 10 месяцев назад
@@xNathyRibeirodo you know what a dystopia is? 😂 The Maze Runner is more sci-fi but not "just an experiment about humanity", it's literally trying to save the human race with many moral struggles - plus there is no _big evil_ , but they define _good_ in different ways, and this is definitely a pretty unique concept in a series.
@xNathyRibeiro
@xNathyRibeiro 10 месяцев назад
@@propriov I'm talking more ab the movies darling. And oh really they are dystopian movies 😱 I'm talking about the similarities that the two of them have, which is, they lived "happily" till they discover that it was all an experiment to save humanity. Which happens in both Divergent and Maze Runner 🤷🏻‍♀️ In the hunger games the reality is the one that we see and there is no plottwist ab that. And yeah divergent is shitty, specially the Four spin-off
@propriov
@propriov 10 месяцев назад
@@xNathyRibeiro mate, you literally wrote "at least the HG is really a dystopian movie", implying that Maze Runner isn't 🤣 However, beyond personal tastes, there are many differences and the Maze Runner trilogy managed to set itself apart in a good and unique way. Plus I wouldn't say they lived "happily" in the maze lol, they cohesisted peacefully, but there were dark times (as Alby says) - not to mention in the books Newt is literally trying to kill himself.

This is one of the few movies (series) that didn't follow the books (after book 1, this movie was pretty close to book 1) but despite the other movies being VERY different from the books, it was STILL really good. I really liked the direction they went with it and it accomplished the same thing that the books did, made you ask the same questions, even though it was different.
@raptorneon4919
@raptorneon4919 11 месяцев назад
No this movie did follow the book, it’s the sequels that don’t.
@grice478
@grice478 11 месяцев назад
@@raptorneon4919I think you're just misunderstanding what they're saying. They're agreeing that this one follows the books, but the rest don’t. When they're saying this is one of the movies where it doesn't follow the books they're meaning the movie series generally doesn't follow the books as they mention this one does.
@wilhelm-z4t
@wilhelm-z4t 6 месяцев назад
Very broadly, the films actually do follow the outline of the books but differ in detail markedly. Personally, I prefer the films to the books. It's a matter of taste, I suppose. The books are darker than the films. That doesn't mean I didn't like the books. They held my interest. People frequently complain because a film doesn't follow a book exactly. There are obvious reasons why this is rarely possible, and it's often not even desirable. Books and films are two different art forms. There are different creative impulses at work in each. People need to understand the "Maze Runner" books and films as depicting two separate universes which, although inhabited by the same people facing similar challenges, evolve differently. They are going to diverge, and vive la difference! If all is done well, and the films were done very well, it doubles the fun.

I read the book as an assignment and HOLY CRAP, it was a masterpiece. I would recommend reading it just in case you want more info, since in movies it just seems weird for a character to say a whole paragraph of info for the viewer to fully understand since it would probably take up needed time, so a lot of movie adaptations just cut it out and/or completely replace it with something else. EDIT: I love how Mrs. Jane grabs onto Mr. Justin whenever something scary is going on. Very wholesome 😂😂😂

@@loganbradford2343 Yup, as an assignment. Every quarter she has us read a certain amount of books and do different work for each. It can be book reviews, alternate endings, character analyzation, and a lot more. Many books in her room were donated by family, and she's also very serious about the book assignments. "You don't read, you don't PASS." is what she would always say. I'm getting back to school on Monday since it was fall break. Man, I can't wait. Personally I felt the books were severely worse and weaker that the films, which is very very rare for me. I can't honestly think of another series where I feel that way, but these books were rough especially the last two. The books went off the deep end real fast, and the movie was smart to keep a majority of the stupid stuff away: it got rid of all the teleportation technology, and especially they got rid of the awful telepathic conversations between Thomas and Theresa, as well as they simplified and improved the idea of the virus itself. Imo, the films really cleaned up the books and made the movies far better and more concise than the books did, and they told a better story overall. This is one of the few series I would tell fans to stay away from the books, as they just aren't as good and will likely result in frustration at the stupider things it pulls that the movies wisely shied away from.

The concept of this trilogy had potential, but they really made it superficial and unoriginal, books included. Still, you guys' reaction is fun to see. More entertaining than the movie for sure, at least to me. It seems the hunger games prequel set off the 2010-2015 dystopian YA crowd in everyone's audiences lol. There was that period of time where they took this one theme and overdid it and overclichéd it to death and beyond (vampires, dystopian, werewolves, nephilim...) Don't get me wrong, they're entertaining. Some more than others. I was absolutely part of that crowd at the time. I was also the target audience. Had fun with it, but it was mass-production-ish storytelling and that's just not a good combination. Then came the fae, but it worked very differently. There's also always some real gems, even (maybe, once in a while) in the mainstream. Nothing wrong with enjoying them, of course and this is all 100% my personal feelings and opinions. Hunger games, for example, still in my mind has all this cons and yet is still WAY better than maze runner in many ways. I just think of some parameters to make comparison more of a possibility and character building, character archs, worldbuilding, exploration of the themes in the story, idk, a lot more? Yeah, hunger games wins that one. All of the more interesting elements in maze runner were sadly not explored
@wilhelm-z4t
@wilhelm-z4t 6 месяцев назад
"Maze Runner" is the exact opposite of superficial and unoriginal. Put away such childish things as "Hunger Games."
@tywinderbaum5283
@tywinderbaum5283 6 месяцев назад
@@wilhelm-z4t nothing childish in my mind with either series. They're both excellent concepts, especially the worlds they build have tons of potential and the idea of the story is excellent, potentially very layered and complex. But in my personal opinion, neither was executed to the full extent of their potential. The characters in maze runner fell flat to me even though in theory, the idea of them was or could have been complex, it just wasn't executed in a way that allowed all those ideas to come through. Again, this is all personal opinion and taste. And btw, even if something is intended for children, that does not make it poorer. Neither of these stories is childish. They deal in very serious, horrible topics. But childish is also not an insult. And children are fully capable of complexity, even if not the same as adults. To sum it up, again: "all (or maybe a lot of) the most interesting elements in maze runner were sadly not explored". This from someone who enjoys in depth world and character building. I do understand not all books are like that. But it feels superficial to me in part because of that. All personal opinion.

So let me explain something. The 8 sections of a maze each have a greiver home, so after a greiver has searched the maze at night and it returns to its home with its key fob, it signals that section of the maze to close, that’s why section 7 was still open since they killed the greiver that never returned to signal section 7 to close. Hence why when they brought the key fob back it registered them as greiver a and started changing

Chuck's death was in the novel. It's actually an element of mythic tragedy, a trope that is thousands of years old. What should be realised is nothing in films, plays or literature is new. Maybe a particular viewer or reader hasn't encountered a certain plot element before, but that doesn't mean it's new. It's all been done before many times. What's important is how these various building blocks are arranged and utilized. Even the basis for "Maze Runner" is ancient. The film is actually based on "Theseus and the Minotaur." Thomas is Theseus, the hero. The Glade and the Gladers are Athens and Athenian youth, respectively. The Grievers are the Minotaur, the monster that feeds on the Athenian youth, who have been offered as sacrificial victims. The Minotaur is half man, half bull. The Grievers are half organic, half machine. The WCKD mechanism that's found in the crushed Griever is Ariadne's thread, the key out of the maze. WCKD is King Minos. The maze motif is also subtly repeated in the "Scorch Trials" and "Death Cure." The Glade's Athens is, however, more like "The Lord of the Flies" than classical Greece. The Glade is, after all, an island in the middle of an ocean-like maze. Themes in that well-known classic include the tension between groupthink and individuality, between rational and emotional reactions, and between morality and immorality. Scenarios which we do see play out between Thomas and the Gladers. This myth has also been told and retold many times in different guises. For example, Stanley Kubrick's film "The Shining" is a looser retelling of "Theseus and the Minotaur." In that story Danny is Theseus and Jack, his father, is the Minotaur. Thomas is the archetypal tragic hero. Tragic heroes are characters of elevated stature, both in birth and morality. Like most heroes, he has above-average intelligence, which means he has situational awareness; he's determined, which means he is firmly set in opinion or purpose; and he has a loyal close friend who guides, advises and helps him as he faces his trials. In the films, Newt clearly fits the role as Thomas' helper, his Ariadne. The Theseus' myth also emphasizes the power of love. Ariadne helps because she has fallen in love with Theseus. Newt has also fallen in love with Thomas. As a tragic hero, Thomas is subject to a collective fate, the will of the gods, if you will, which had precipitated the solar flares that scorched the Earth and indirectly brought about the Flare virus. A common attribute of the tragic hero is that he once held a lofty position from which he has now been cast down. Thomas' hamartia has visited his own individual fate upon himself which prompts his present adventure-journey. His moral choices while part of WCKD led him to immoral behavior, the torture and deaths of his friends. In this way, Thomas assumed the role of a god over the Gladers. That's hubris. Humans, even if they're heroes, have to be taught they are not a god. Thomas' eventual betrayal of WCKD precipitated his downfall and the tragic course his subsequent life followed. Tragic heroes suffer, and so Thomas must suffer. He suffers because of his lost status, he suffers because of his past actions, he suffers because he's lost his identity and been condemned to the trials, and he suffers most because of the deaths of companions he lost along his adventure-journey. Yes, those nearest and dearest to a tragic hero are always at risk of mortal peril or death. Most often, it's death. That's why Chuck had to die, and he won't be the last. It seems incredible but heroic stories often follow the same basic pattern. In his book "The Hero with a Thousand Faces," Joseph Campbell, distilled the world's myths into a common structure which he called the monomyth or hero's journey. It's very concisely summarized as follows: A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man. That's the "Maze Runner" film trilogy in a nutshell. Nothing new under the sun. The whole idea behind the Trials is to create something like new engrams in the brain, which would alter the brain's chemistry and so the enzyme used as a treatment and potential cure for the Flare. The idea is that if the right combination of engrams is produced through the Trials, which are complex and terrifying scenarios the immune must solve, a cure might be found. It's rather like a fixed-point iteration converging on an eventual solution. At least that's WCKD's hope. It's the trilogy's McGuffin, so you shouldn't obsess over it, however. Take it at face value. You know, that there are things like lightsabers and FTL travel etc. Another thing to discern is that the Griever sting is not the same as the Flare virus. It's similar in effect, but not the same. Why is this? The experimental design for the Trials consists of two groups: immunes (treatment) and non-immunes (control). The idea behind a control group is to have a baseline to compare the treatment group to. So, some of the Gladers are immune to the Flare, others are not. However, the Trial must treat all the subjects equally as far as stimuli are concerned. They have to be subject to the same risks; otherwise, you couldn't compare the resulting brain patterns between the treatment and the control groups, which is the point of the Trial. So, whatever the Griever's sting is, it would have to affect the immunes and the non-immunes. Therefore, it can't be the Flare virus. It's something similar to Flare, but not the Flare. It's also 100% curable by WCKD since we can presume Thomas won't die eventually after being stung. Furthermore, Griever virus can't be communicable. If it were and someone was stung, like Ben was, all the subjects in the Glade might die. That would ruin the Trial.

I get that they wanted the cool aerial shot of the maze for the movie, but in the book the maze is underground, inside a dome that simulates the sky (à la Hunger Games). It's actually a major tactic that WICKED turns off the day/night cycle of the dome (when Thomas puts them into the endgame stage,) leaving the Gladers in perpetual gray half-light that really screws up their sleep patterns and makes them irritable (as a third-shifter, I can relate). They also cut a very long ascent through the maintenance tunnels, during which the Gladers are attacked by gelatinous blobs of caustic acid that try to burn their faces off. Horrifying. I actually think the movie has better pacing than the book, but I may be biased since I saw the movie first. But thank God they let the Gladers curse. In the book, they use exclusively made-up curses (klunk, shuckface, shank) and it's super cringe.

😂 Justin is being used as a pillow to squeeze when she is scared 😂. You're sweet man ❤. But maybe Jane, you just shouldn't watch movies that are stressing you out. Maybe you're just too soft hearted for it 😊
