I’m glad it’s still up a year later! Julie Newmar was an actress, most well known for playing Catwoman in the first and third seasons of the 60s campy TV series Batman. (Eartha Kitt played her in the second season, and both were fabulous!) I know it’s no longer July 4th, but can you please react to the 1972 musical 1776, about the founding fathers and the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It’s free on the Tubi ap with very few commercials.
Fun Fact: Julie Newmar was originally not part of this film's production. She just happened to be at the studio when the end scene was being filmed and the producers ask her if she wanted to be in it, Julie said yes!
Julie Newmar was not a drag queen, she was an actress in the '50s (Catwomen) and Rupaul already had a video and song, Supermodel (Work") when this came out.
@@eolsunder That's how I know her best ... a little wave of sadness swept over me when she asked who Julie Newmar is. For fun, here she is in all her Catwoman glory: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UgW_PhNHq0g.html
Such an underappreciated film and it was way ahead of it's time. I saw this in the theater with a group of my co-workers (one of whom was gay) and we had the best time. I remember liking how respectful this film and "The Birdcage" were of that community which was not always the norm in Hollywood. Cheers, Mum.
This movie is one of the big reasons why I'm into drag. I've already performed in drag once, and I would like to keep it going under my supremely raunchy stage name: Ivana Hump.
This is a hilarious movie. Those three straight men really pulled off the drag queen thing incredibly well. To me the funniest of them was Wesley Snipes. Who knew he could do sich a great job in a comedy & as a drag queen. His lines were hilarious and i loved the scenes between him and Clara. That was sweet. Great reaction as usual. You're awesome.
This Movie Was Released In 1995, Rupaul's "Supermodel Of The World" Album Was Released In 1993. Rupaul Was Already A STAR By The Time This Movie Came Out!
I am thrilled you finally seen this. It’s a top favourite of mine of these kinda films. I remember seeing this for the first time and seeing these masculine actors play such a feminine roll was fun and shows their “playful” side of acting or versatility.
32:32 I raised the volume and got startled by an ad at this point at full blast lol. Thank for you for continuing to edit & make changes necessary to get this video up. I wish YT would stop harassing its content creators. Happy Pride, everybody! 🌈 (Even though I’m watching this on July 1)
This is such a fun and campy movie and this movie introduced me to the wonderful world of drag queens! I enjoyed your reaction and commentary. Your necklace is beautiful. My daughter and granddaughter and I have a generation necklace as well. I’m also called GG instead of grandma! Thanks for reacting to this wonderful movie! Yes, Ru Paul was already famous! Lol
I love another Patrick Swayze film ... don't hear many people talk about it: 'Keeping Mum' with Maggie Smith (Professor McGonagall), Kristin Scott Thomas and Rowan Atkinson. I think you'd love it! Plot: "Walter Goodfellow, a vicar, is so busy composing an ideal sermon that he doesn't realise that his family needs him badly. However, things take a turn with the arrival of his new housekeeper." Sounds boring lol but a such a fun black comedy that doesn't take itself too seriously.
32:30 is one of the most beautiful shots. Not just because of Stockard Channing’s beauty, but the cinematography is so perfect. Thanks for the wonderful reaction to this sweet, funny film. All the actors were marvelous in this.
greetings and love from Germany. Such a lovely reaction, thanx, my dear....sadwise not many reacters give this awesome and moving movie a try....but you are my favorite by far...little side note (btw. i also thought Julie was one of the first drags, hihi)....Newmar has been a vocal supporter of LGBT rights; her brother, John Newmeyer, is gay. In 2013, she was awarded a lifetime achievement award from the Gay and Lesbian Elder Housing organization in Los Angeles. Great woman....just like you.....have a peaceful weekend and stay safe, PrettyWoman 🌈🌈💚💚
I absolutely love this movie! I probably have watched it like 50 times in my life and love it each time. But, you made me love it much more. I had a blast watching with you. lol. I am new subscriber!❤❤
It doesn't say where Snydersville is, but it was filmed in Loma, Nebraska. The town is even smaller now. There is a deleted scene on the DVD where they break down earlier in the trip and almost get rear-ended by a truck. Cars starts just in time.
First time I saw Julie was in a tv show called “My Living Doll” (1964-1965). It aired before she got the part of Cat Woman in the “Batman” tv series in 1966. Happy belated 90th birthday Julie. Cheers
I believe julie newmar is in her 80s-90s now i believe!! This movie was in 1995 and mama ru already had her talk show at thid time of making this movie
Great you teared up. I do, a straight white guy respecting diversity. This film all can watch, and in this post-Trump-befouled culture its message is ever more needed.
Im already subscribed, but the fact that you clocked Coco Peru makes me want to REsubscribe. Ru at this point had already recieved acclaim and fame for "Supermodel of The World" AND had her own talk show on VH1.
Loved this reaction! My first time watching your channel. Just a couple FYI's for you - Julie Newmar was not a drag queen lol. She was an actress and dancer and is probably best known for being the original actress to play Catwoman. As for Rupaul.... he was already famous when this movie came out, though the Rupaul's Drag Race series had not started yet. But Ru was a model, singer and actor before that show aired. As for the cop in the bar... I think it's kind of an assumption that the people who seem to be the most homophobic, are that way because they are reacting to feelings they have deep inside that they can't bring themselves to deal with. This seems to be what Sherriff Dullard (it's a misprint!) is going through at the bar. His monologue represents that internal struggle that people like him tend to have.
Many people compare this movie with "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" because both were produced and released around the same time. Both are great, but Priscilla is a bit better, I think. You should try it.
I think with the cop it was showing that he actually had tendencies of being attracted to men, but instead of embracing them, he further repressed them and then proceeded to lash out towards the drag queens as many closeted people lash out towards queer people, since they don't feel that they can embrace who they are and be open and out, so no one else should be able to either, in their minds.
If you like this movie you should watch the show We’re Here. It’s basically a documentary reality version of this where 3 drag queens go to parts of the country that aren’t always accepting of the lifestyle, and change peoples lives for the better. The show will make you cry almost every episode. I loved your sincere reaction to this movie, hitting the subscribe button now.
38:07 Hello, Just subbed, can't wait to check out your other content. Loved your heartfelt reaction to this... Maybe I can explain, as a gay man. Some Straight Men, Homophobic people do this... Well, for example, if you've ever seen the movie "The Village" Ron Howard's daughter plays the blind girl. She had a line in the Movie ...copy paste: "Sometimes we don’t do things we want to do so that others won’t know we want to do them." This sums up very well why The Cop in Too Wong Foo was saying things as he was while sitting at the bar. And... I know this very well... The best protection from the truth when you're in the closet is to keep your CLOAK nice and snug. Thanks for sharing this with us. I loved your reaction to one of my Most favorite movies. If you don't mind me suggesting, I would highly recommend you watching and reacting to a movie called "Cloud Burst" Starring Olympia Dukakis. It's high on my list of Top Fav Movies.
Welcome to the channel! I have seen The Village and that makes sense of what the cop was saying… I had to remove that scene “due to copyright” but I did comment about what he was saying at the bar (full reactions are on my Patreon) I had to remove several parts actually 🙄 IDK if you know of the reactor George Alexander but he’s the person I asked about seeing this movie/especially for 🌈 month! He’s one of my closest friends on YT & a sweetheart. Anyway, thanks for the comment. Enjoy 💚
It's a good movie but drag queens don't live in drag 24/7. Also it can come off a bit condescending with the small town lady being like, oh, we're not good enough for you fancy city folk.
