The way the box is described is perfect. No filler items, everything is quality and not gimmicky and that's great value for $100 IMO. Interested to see what future boxes look like.
$100.00 this poor man can't afford to spend that much! Every thing in that box except the pan and knife I used 45 years ago in the Army. And you can buy it a hole lot cheaper at any good surplus store. Not to say if you can pay for you shouldn't get it, I know it's some one's livelihood. but poor people really can't pay for it. just saying
You did a great job on the boxing of poor man's.I will buy one next month for a $100 dollars . Do you have a discount u give to first time buyer . Getting it soon thanks again have a great day and always safe first.
You must live in the city to be ordering camping gear and I have that stuff which I got from various sites and Wal-Mart stores. I got my backpack from an Army base and my utility belt, canteen, case, and one folding knife was issued to me at one military base while in service. I was looking at your canteen and can tell that it was made just for drinking water only and I have one which I purchased which is plastic like the one I was issued and it has a plastic lid on it just large enough to put in the replacement water filter.
I have the titanium version of almost every piece of gear you showed (Ti folding spork, Ti Teflon frying pan, Ti canteen and lid, Ti canteen cup, Ti Bot with hanger, Ti stove). Not a fan of the Gerber knife (or any Gerber knife). My kit does with ounces what yours does with pounds. I can’t afford the weight. Looking forward to the next one.
Wow, the bad after the Camp Cook Box was already released but I agree, it was an awesome box! My wife was so impressed with the items she put up half the money to buy a second Camp Cook Box! That in my household is saying something. The October Box will feature a EDC backpack so I’m already looking forward to it.
Hey Tim, great video. I loved the box. I'm might have to get one for myself. I think you got a winner here. Looking forward to seeing more of these boxes.
First box that I didn't immediately shrug off. About time somebody put together stuff that wasn't some cheap wal-mart afterthoughts with one good thing.
Excellent video, my friend. I enjoyed hearing your opinions on all the gear. Looking forward to seeing your video of using the gear in the field! Keep up the good work, brother! 👊
Wow, I have every bit of that gear.... that’s an amazing price! The Gerber Flatiron is a great knife. I like the Pathfinder gear, quality stuff. Mountain House is good food. One pouch will feed me and the dog on the trail. A very solid kit. I would pay $100 for that kit any day. Personally, I would like to see a company make different kits and let you pick which one you want.
I like that nothing looked gymicky. Well, I always considered sporks, regardless of who made them or what they're made of as gymicky, but that's just me ! But the whole package looked really good with high quality, no nonsense items. Good choice and thanks for sharing !
I've been told by a few ppl that the 1st box is always better than the rest, they kinda hook you in with that 1st box, and it keeps u hoping for similar boxes in the future. Not sure if it's true but knowing standard business practices today, I would totally believe it. 🤷♂️
most of those items are things I would use, no issue. the one big change I would make would be to lose the spork. it is too small to be using around really hot food, or eating out of a canteen or nesting cup. I would swap it for the CRKT eatin' tool XL. it has a much better reach, and a little larger spoon bowl. thanks for the review.
Great box. Glad I took the chance on a new subscription service compared to who I had been getting. Very good value for the money. Awesome review of boxes as usual.
I've used (+abused) canteens for 30 years. The Pathfinder is simply the best quart+cup+stove kit on the market, no question. I do own the reproduction WWII stainless of comparable quality, but good luck finding a stove to slip under the cup. Pathfinder canteens could increase their sale margin by one simple upgrade: Caps that depressurize AVON fitting for drink tubes while wearing a gas mask. The USGI nalgyne have this option, yet the Pathfinder does not. I'm running both a Camelback AND the Pathfinder for this reason. Would be convenient to just fill & go with the stainless, because bitter valves on bladder systems leak & drip. Hello David & Jason, I'm still happy with the canteen kit and offer this suggestion as a conceptual improvement, not criticism.
Tim, I went to his website, and it has very little information. It doesn't tell you if you can buy one box or have to start a subscription, it doesn't tell you when boxes ship, it doesn't tell you the approx value of stuff you will receive at each level, etc. I'd love to get the box you show in this video, but I don't know if I can get it. Can you buy previous boxes? There just isn't enough information on the site for me to spend $100. Awesome gear, it's a shame there is no information on the site.
You buy each month you want it, no commitment. And if you follow my social media pages you will see the hints for that month. This coming month is based around a quality pack. Past boxes will be listed if available which they currently are not. Any questions or concerns just email me poormanspreparing@gmail.com
Great unboxing The cup and burner are standard items in Australian army canteen set They are good and not cheap i have several sets I will order this kit i hope he ships to Australia Cheers mate
This bushcrafting craze reminds me when in late 80’s Yuppies discovered Harley Davidsons... they drove price Harleys up almost 50% in 3 years.... same thing happening now with “ Bushcrafting “ everyone a bushcrafter now & price useless shit is thru roof... 90% people who are into it now have never spent one night alone in woods....
Wait until you see the second months box, you'll like that one too. honestly with this one box alone you could take it with a small day pack, say 20-30 liter bag and have a nice overnighter. As i said to good ol Chris Thorn, From DFS. this sub box is friggen awesome im planning on getting atleast the first month for myself.
The canteen is nice with the wide mouth. But it would have been better if Pathfinder made the wide mouth Nalgene bottle compatible. Cool that he included a lot of Pathfinder stuff, though. Good quality. I'm surprised he didn't include a fish spreader.
I swear he got that gear off the back of truck to be able to give them away for $100! Amazing gear for such a ridiculous price. I'm definitely going to get in on this. 👍👍👍
Great set up for a beginner starting out and can see this being a good way to get a decent range from the start. Also good for a scout troop to be fair. Saying that most people after a while have more enough gear and tend to upgrade as they go. I'm at the stage of having 3-4 cooking sets and at least 5 types of backpacking stove. In fairness I could actually do with reducing the amount of kit I have. I could see the additional volume of gear for someone already in the game getting a bit out of hand.
Not a bad bit of kit the pathfinder pot with the fold out handle is a mug same a the old German mess tins, the water bottle is good, similer to the old US issue water bottles , I am a British army vet and used both us and brits water bottle had a not 5 bottles on my belt kit , the cooker is similer to our old hexi block burners very good bit of kit
I'd like to own that gear , I think it's a reasonable price . Now you said something about a $200.00 dollar gear box , when be will you be showing that one , do you know ? Thanks for sharing .
2laughandlaugh I have the stuff from Walmart, including the folding pan. I also have everyone of the Pathfinder items. You are not making an honest comparison. You should be able to tell the difference by sight, if you held the items, you totally could tell that there is a huge difference.
Dude,Foone much cooler I’m going with it! If that military style water canteen had a metal cap it be perfect wish my military surplus one had that stove option
Most people are missing the point of this kit. Just this 1 months kit could start someone off on basic backpacking. I think it's a really great kit. It takes away the guess work for someone trying to get started.
If you're just starting out this makes your cooking kit ready to go. That's a good amount of stuff for $100. Pathfinder is top quality and that knife is a good design for food prep. I have one similar I use in the kitchen for chopping onions etc. Trying to figure out what to buy, then ordering this stuff piece by piece, waiting for each item to arrive is a royal pain cause I went that route. If each box doesn't duplicate what you already have then you could build an entire camping kit the easy button way and have top quality to boot. This is well thought out ready to go like a pizza
Very cool, that was a pretty cool box. I liked that the kits were different sized pieces like the Cup you can drink out of or boil water. Pan with lid was really cool, and I really liked the canteen cup kit with carry pouch. I was checking into get the box since I cancel my battlbox sub. Thanks
Great American Survival Try to get the October box! Sound right up your alley with a backpack ,Organizing bag and water bottle with filter. The closer to release date, the more photo hints PMP releases.
Been watching a lot of recent PMP unboxings. He's gone the way of all the others. Battlbox bought/merged with Crate Club and I'm not finding anyone who's real happy with the exception of the SurvivalBox subscribers. They're sold out.
Do any of these subscription services ever allow consumers to buy PREVIOUS boxes? For instance, I'm just now hearing about PMP and it would be nice if we could buy past boxes that may have been leftover. I haven't seen any that allow it, but curious if there are some that do and I just haven't come across them yet.
Unfortunately that’s not usually how they work. It’s kind of like a kickstarter program. As many people that subscribe, they order bulk of enough items to get a deal to send out and as people keep subscribing they keep adding. They might wind up with a few extra items out of each box but I’m sure there’s some kind of return system in place to recoup some losses.
He should maybe team up with Varusteleka from Finland, the have a lot of great and affordable products, a lot of wool and of course knives and clothings :)
I have the Pathfinder Canteen cook set on a Condor Battle Belt loadout for hiking. It's a great kit. I actually bought a better canteen bag for it & used the $2 Dave bag for extra gear on my belt. I already have a Spyderco Roc, so wouldn't need that Gerber. I could afford these boxes, but I'd rather build my own kits.
Trying to start a channel to show people that have physical deficits what works best for their backpacks via ease of use, weight, cost too & also show them ways that they can modify and adapt in nature or urban settings using the things that they can budget monthly & know that they'll be able to make it with a little less struggle. This is quite impressive! Do you know what comes in the 50.00 box. I remember his video when he was first starting this box & the man that makes these actually cares. After the first of the year I may have to buy one or 2. Better than what Battlbox has become by far. And the weights are decent...i tell people w/ health issues or injuries to start at 5 =4 4=3 3=2 2=11= zilch. Crps, hand dexterity issues legs ,but ways to use even canes or crutches. Some of the things he has put in are so crucial. And I didn't mean to write a novel haha but I am impressed by your review.
I think for the overall price it's a fine selection. But me personally I wouldn't carry a fry pan in my bag too bulky. But as you stated it was a cook kit and it certainly covered that atleast three times. I think the value of what you received is less than the usual cost of the items. But I don't think anyone needs three cook systems, not if one wants to stay light. Just my opinion. I am allergic to packing excessive gear after all.
Not to be a wise guy, but that is far better than the actual esbit stove: it's a bcb stove, unique in that it has that integrated windshield (also makes it much more stable, even with smaller pots) and designed for alcohol gel ("firedragon", check out survival on purpose' video on it). World's cove times better than esbit AND can be sent by post).
This whole video, I wondered.... Where would I stop my beard, if I was bald? Would I go higher? Or lower? Would I start it with sideburns? Are those lowrider sideburns?
