Hey y'all, we are back after a very busy couple of months with a new update. We know it has been a bit since we've posted a video but we hope that this video helps to fill y'all with some of the things that have been going on with us. As always, feel free to ask us any questions that y'all may have and we'll try to answer them as soon as we can!

Norfolk Navy Yard played a huge part in both battleships, she built Alabama fr 1940-1942 & modernized Texas fr 1925-1926. 👍🏼

My grandmother was a welding supervisor at Levingston Shipyard in Orange, Texas during WW2 and participated in the building of the USS Orleck. Her daughter, my mom, helped collect pennies at school after the war as part of the fundraising that enabled the USS Texas to be transferred to the State of Texas and opened as a museum ship in 1948. #ComeOnTexas

@@AL5J_ They may have. He did work as a Welder and some Carpentry. My Brother was on Frigates (1981-1985) aka before the Mid 1970s as Destroyer Escorts. It just made him happy that his Grandson was on one. That Yard built both types. The scene in the movie PT 109. The Destroyer that cuts the PT Boat in half was the DE USS Peterson. Built in Orange. The Japanese Helmsman was uncredited in the movie, was George Takei of STAR TREK fame.

I think the restoration of USS Texas is one of the most important restoration of historic ships since the SS Great Britain in terms of the scale of the work necessary. It think it’s amazing that you’re going into such depths to restore the guns to a new operational state and that you are planning to have teams to work and demonstrate the guns going forward. It's really great to hear that Texas is still on for her drydocking. As well as being a historical USN ship, she also carries the torch for that entire segment of early Dreadnought history and I for one am so glad she's getting the work needed to keep around for future generations to learn about Texas and the important period in naval history she represents.

I am a former docent but had to quit for medical reasons. We brought our grandsons out the last time you were open to see where their great-grandfather served. My dad is 96 and lives out of state, but he likes to get updates. Served in 1945 Magic Carpet then went on to duty in China post-war humanitarian missions. He has visited Texas several times since we moved here and he was in better health. Thanks for posting this!

My sincere respect and gratitude to your dad Nancy. I too am a baby boomer whose dad served in the Pacific in WWII. I’m Vietnam era Navy. Assuming that your dad is Navy judging by his service in Magic Carpet I wish him “fair winds and trailing seas”. All the best to you and your father.

I flew into to IAH yesterday and my first stop was to see the USS Texas. I grew up 5 miles from the USS Constitution and I love seeing our naval heritage at any chance that I get!! Godspeed Texas to the drydock. I hope that we will get videos of the ship in motion on it's way to the drydock.

When the divers were inspecting the bulkhead between the ships berth and the Houston ship channel years ago for her first removal and dry dock, they found a stolen car that had been run off into the water near the rear of the ship. As a wrecker service owner at the time, I removed the car myself. Many memories of prowling all through the ship as a kid. My Dad worked on the San Jacinto Inn restaurant that was built next door many years ago and I spent a whole summer there, prowling around on the ship nearly everyday. I just volunteered to help with the restoration! Hope they'll have me.

When you consider how much work was required to maintain everything on the ship when it was operational, it really puts this overhaul (and continued maintenance) in perspective. I'm incredibly thankful for all the time and energy everyone has put into getting our old girl back in shape.

Nice to see some living history in those guns. The Cruise Liner at the Beginning looks like the ones Build at Papenburg Germany and fittet out at Emden Germany when I was a child in the late 90s.

I've always wanted to see Texas but I think I'll wait till she's back in full glory and make it a family vacation because a day trip will just be rushing. I am going to make the assumption she'll be BACK for her 100th birthday! The fact she was there at Normandy is very significant for me as she was part of the operation that would ultimately free Europe which includes my own origin country of the Netherlands. BTW: Anyone else had to look away when he was talking about the mounts? Those doors in the background...

Can I ask will the 3 tier director tower be overhauled or can there be a dedicated video on it at some point please. As it's the most recognisable and intriguing part of many American capital ships pre and early ww2. Thankyou

If you get a chance, definitely go see a WW2 destroyer museum. Since they're smaller than cruisers and battleships, there's not as much to maintain and are kept in fantastic shape. The USS Kidd is one of my all time favorite ships that I've visited. Such a great experience. I'd love to see a Gearing class as well, as that's peak WW2 destroyer tech.

My family visited BB-35 in 96 or 97 (my memory is crap sometimes) and I throughly enjoyed the experience. There's several museum ships I'd like to visit in the future and I'll gladly visit this old girl again when you get fixed back up.

This is awesome - I rode my bicycle to the Texas many times from Baytown Lakewood - love that ship, have taken both my grown sons to it as well, can't wait to get back down to the engine compartment neither of my boys has seen that due to the water coming in. I hope that once it is repaired it will be in PERMANENT DRY DOCK and not still floating in water for it continue to rust away.

The Navy should have never gotten rid of these dry docks. Especially since the closing of Charleston, Philly, Mare Island, etc. As a Chief Warrant Officer, I was in charge of the forward Quad 40mm gun on ARL-24, the USS Sphinx. She had a forward and aft 40mm mounts. These mounts were really impressive in action; but sure were hard on a guy's ears! I also served aboard USS Texas (CGN-39) and eagerly follow the restoration of BB-35!

Saw the Texas back in the early fifties when you could go deep into her. Could see the propeller shaft exiting the hull and many other fascinating secret places. Hope to again before it's too late for me.

Up until they started having major leaks. You could make reservations for a "DEEP INTERIOR" tour. I never done it. But there's hope.

Just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to make the video to update us I would love to be a volunteer on the battleship Texas but unfortunately you guys are $2500 miles away from where I live so unfortunately I can't be a volunteer but I guess you can keep us all updated by your RU-vid videos much appreciated keep up the good work I'm really looking forward to seeing the upcoming videos on her when she is in dry dock that will be really cool to see try and get as many videos as you can and be thorough thank you keep up the good work.

Great job on the guns, I'd love to volunteer to help, but I'm not sure I'd have the free time. Will defiantly try to make it out for the ship's birthday! On a side note, funny you all posted today, isn't it the anniversary of the start of the Battle of Iwo Jima today? Where Texas helped with shore bombardment.

Great to see all the WW2 anti-aircraft guns being restored. Texas and North Carolina are the only BBs to still have them and they are an essential part of the ship's history. I know its almost impossible but I would love to see one of the 40MM mounts slaved to a working director. I think you would be the only museum ship in the world to have one even if it was only simulated with some modern electronics driving the pumps and motors.

Sad that Jacksonville didn’t raise the money for the Saratoga which was homeport in Mayport but now a destroyer. It’s nice to see a ship preserved.

I know it's probably not your top priority, but I hope you can go all out on filming, while Texas is in Drydock. Timelapses, Drone footage, GoPros in all the nooks and crannies, etc. to document something that is probably not gonna happen again in a long time.

Hey, no worries! We are planning on filming as much as possible, not only for youtube, but for official documentation as this is an important event in the ships history as a museum ship. This is the second time in almost 80 years that the ship will be put into dry dock. We're planning on trying to live stream the ship moving as well, but we'll see what kind of internet we can get while underway.

Got a suggestion for when she leaves her berth for Galveston: rig some speakers on deck, and blare out some songs. I'm thinking Sabaton's "Dreadnought" from their latest album "War to End All Wars". After all, Texas is the last dreadnought...

All that is needes now is for the steam boilers and triple exspancion engines to be revived to working order. Then you can send the the battleship texas to hunt pirates as she is the Texas State Navy flagship.

My father was a ship fitter at the Orange, TX shipyard building destroyers during the war. He would never talk about his experiences there. I understand. I never talk about my 27 years in the US Postal Service in Houston, either.

For your cuts - do closeups and then cut back next time you cut - so you don't have so many jump cuts without a frame change.

I wish I had the money to donate to fix her up to come back to Texas under her own power. Then she would not only be the oldest surviving battleship but the oldest to sail under her own power. Would also be nice to see her next to the Missouri. The oldest and newest battleship together.

Used to live not far from BB-35 in Friendswood, TX. Back then it wasn't on most maps of the area, and you'd drive right past it on NASA Road One and if you blinked, you'd miss it. Now it is a pretty good sized town from what I hear. I live in Florida now, or I'd be volunteering on her this very second, but alas, life has ways of playing dirty tricks on us, and moving us here, there, and yon.

The museum should get itself 2 3D printers and produce their parts themselfes. would be much cheaper in the long run, also get those gears done in stainless, so you dont have the problem again.

I have 8mm film footage of myself and my cousin manning one of these 3" guns on the Texas, in 1956! (we were just 5!) So wonderful to see these treasures of Naval history being taken care of so well!! Wish I could come and help!

I always wanted to tour the USS Texas for many decades but I don't get to Texas much and never to Houston. In April 2019, I flew into Houston formy sons graduation from Army Medic School in San Antonio. It's far cheaper to fly into Houston and rent a car. I had a day to myself so I drove out to the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site with my son and when we got to the area, it was all blocked off by deputies. The whole area had been closed down due to a refinery fire about 2 weeks prior that contaminated the whole area so there went that dream and I put it back in the bucket with the rest of the items on my list.

Thanks for your effort that you and your team are putting into this very worthwhile exercise. I reside in the UK and am unable to visit more the pity. At least I have the excellent videos from your channel. My interest is in the engineering that was involved with these battleships, rather than the war content. With that in mind I read that "Die bags" were used to denote who shot what . I am aware (I think) that Texas can none but where were these bags put. Inside the windshield? if, with the charges they would not survive the firing. Again many thanks for all your efforts. Keep safe, Rich

I beleive that all these ships should be restored and made battle ready. The USS TEXAS is the pride of the great State of Texas and she needs to be made ready to fight for Texas if she called on to protect Texas.

Those heavily pitted and damaged gears can probably be brazed up and repaired. It's a fairly standard straight tooth gear, should be able to.fimd new gears and have the shafts turn and new gears pressed and welded on etc

I think a twitch program would be great! That with just a camera looking at the front of the vessel then slowly add other camera around the boat from like the command center, stern, messhall and and maybe even do some live shows with the crew doing maintenance

Tragic that the USS John Rodgers couldn't have been saved. It was one of the most stock Fletchers in existence before it was scrapped in 2011. Thankfully, the Texas found a far better fate. Thank you!
