Great to see you getting comfortable on camera - looking relaxed and humorous, man! Saw MD's post with your wife - exciting times coming soon with the baby:) Wishing your fam the best
Hey there from America. I’m going back through your videos, and I love my harlequins! I been wanting to add numbers of them and this video has just sealed the deal!! Them and Embers together is gorgeous in my 60 gallon breeder. Embers have had babies survive, I’m ordering more harlequin immediately 🙏❤️
Exciting day today. Set tank up just over a week ago and been doing testing and letting my real plants get going. My water has been low PH and tannins from the bog wood making it like weak tea. Despite boiling and soaking the wood for two weeks. My first tank for ten years and the Harlequin Rasboras were my first choice. Got 12 today and 3 Corys. The PH has stabilised now. Our tap water is just over 6.2 ph but today my tank water was 7, hopefully the coral I mixed in the sand substrate has started working. Now will be keeping a close eye on the levels and ready to act when needed. My tank is 110 litre Jewel Primo. I’ve added a sponge filter today to give extra filtration. Added good bacteria before getting the fish. I’ll be a bit obsessive at first while I know it’s all going well. I do love the Harlequin rasboras. Corys too. Next time I’ll be getting another 3 Corys and Cardinal tetras. I’ll be glad once I’ve got through this early stage.
They were my first fish choice in my newly cycled tank. I’ve got 12 and they are so enjoyable to watch. They are adapting well to my soft tap water. Mine are quite immature so not up to full colour yet and not very big. Getting on well with the Corys that I’ve added. They like the plants that are growing nicely. Very glad I chose these little charmers. I did read up on them and was aware that they are a good first fish.
Harlequins are indeed great fish. A decent sized shoal are a delight. They are colourful in thier own way: not the vivid neon blast - a bit more subtle than that. A good sized shoal in a well planted tank will only get better: those subtle colours will develop a richer intensity. And the original colour variety is still the best: the new stains haven't done anything to improve on that in my opinion... They are peaceful... and adaptable to a wide variety of water parameters within the acceptable normal ranges... bulletproof does describe them well. Providing them with the optimal conditions that suit them best will always show them at thier best. The quality that I love the best about them? They are confident to the point of brazen! The ideal dither fish: they actively move all round the tank - totally happy to be out in the open... right at the front glass of the tank. If you have problems with shy fish refusing to come out... these are what you need!
Looks like everyone has gotten comfortable in the African tank. Nice action in it. BTW, you've talked me into harlequins. Don't know why I've ignored them before
Killed it again, Matt. As one of those guys that wants to see more rare fish videos, I fully recognize the importance of what you’re trying to do in giving people the deep dive on the basics of fishkeeping so we have less people trying to keep a betta or a goldfish in a teacup. You reckon I can keep an arapaima in a 20G? Yes, I’m kidding. Keep doing what you’re doing, you legend.
It would be cool to see you cover Celestial pearl danios! I just got 16 of them in a 40g breeder and I'm really enjoying them. Thanks for all the great info! Cover anything, I'll still watch it.
These were the first fish I ever kept when I started the hobby many moons ago, they will always have a special place in my heart ❤️ Loving the content Matt keep it up!!
A perfect fish for the black water aquarium, any asian gouramy aquarium deserves a scool of Harlequin Rasbora. I must say that my favourite is the Tr. espei with the slightly smaller triangle but way more red colours.
I own a Landen 30 gallon rimless aquarium. In my opinion the aquarium is worth the extra money. Harleguin Rasbora are going to be the next fish I purchase. I already have Golden Blue rams and panda Cory catfish I think these Harleguin would be great tank mates. Great info and video. Well done
Hi Matt, A wee question mate.... Do the Americans call them "Lamb Chops" because of the lamb chop shape on their flanks ? Anyhoo... Keep up the great work mate (y)
Hi Matt. I’m here from MD’s channel and have subscribed. I am so impressed with your fish knowledge! I have harlequins as well and enjoy them very much❤️🇺🇸
Rather than Harlequins.. We went for 20 Glowlight Rasbora (Trigonostigma hengeli) beautiful little entertaining fish.. Doing great with similar numbers of Black Tetra, Lemon Tetra and Cardinals along with a few larger fish.. including Opaline and Pearl Gourami (among some others).. Great video Matt, how about a fish-file on Chocolate Gourami 😉
I’m guilty of walking past harlequin rasboras (and walking towards corys ofc), but maybe seeing a large shoal of them will change my mind. Nice video Matt, as informative as always!
@@FishShopMatt love my Clouds. I have both long fin and normal. My Dwarf Golden Barbs also school with them. I have had to seperate 1 male called Chaser into his own tank though after killing my fav female :( Kept 3 of her last babies.
Loving the series! The females flip upside down to lay eggs on the underside of broad leaved plants. I had seen the behaviour in my planted community tank when I used to keep them, though never saw any frys. They are lovely fish, blackwater does magic to their coppery hues.
That's amazing! I believe the eggs are very light sensitive and you need to keep them dark once laid. (Can't remember if I left that bit of info in or not) ❤️🐠❤️🐠
@@FishShopMatt are you in the Co-Op C.A.R.E Forum? One of the members developed a fantastic infusoria system, and no bad smell. Keeps me out of trouble with the *Patient Spouse*™️ Currently, the directions are under a post for Nerm Week 2022: "Rewrite Directions" Competition 😁
I had a shoal of these. Till I did a water change one day and shocked them all.😢 used to use the outdoor hose to fill my tanks and that water was too cold. Live and learn
Really under rated fish. Have mine with purple emperor tetra and beckfordi pencilfish and panda corydoras and bn plecos. I love them. Also love the lambchop rasbora just a harlequin in smaller form. Beautiful little fish
@@FishShopMatt thank you. I was wanting to add peacock gudgeon. Or would u recommend against it? Not kept them before so not sure how it would affect the community tank balance
Your videos are better each time, Matt. Thank you for sharing your passion and work. Greetings from Brazil! My dream is to take a photo there at the store!
I loved my harlequin raspora. I kept them with glow light tetra, 2 corydoras and a betta. They were in a 10 gallon and now I know why the tank failed. It was overstocked. If I ever got another tank I would get a 29 gallon.
Yayy, just hanging out with my budgies and saw The notifications. MY fav fish and having a school of them in my tank right now. Great vid Matt Maybe do a goldfish fish file? I would like to surprise my grandpa with an entertaining video. Just if u want ofcourse.
Hi mat loving your content. I was wondering if you could do a fish files on goldfish what plants work and what other fish I can keep in the same tank. Thanks
Another 👍video just gave away my harlequins for some galaxy rasboras. Im like Md fish tank. Just instead of plants and scape i swap fish 😅 #need a studio and more tanks
@@FishShopMatt you’re such an adorable lad!!! I could literally listen to you talk about aquariums and fish all day! We also need MERCH! :) keep up the good work Matt!
Hey Matt, love your channel! A suggestion for a video further down the line… Kuhli loaches! Have a load myself, love them! Add plenty off activity to the bottom of your aquarium
I'm so glad I watched your video. I'm setting up my first 20 gallon standard aquarium. It will be planted and Harlequin Raboras are one of the fish I want to keep. Thank you for all the information on the species. Gina from across the pond in the USA.
Enjopy your content very much. Very informative, interesting and fun to watch. I live on the west coast of Florida, USA and I would love to find a fish shop like yours somewhere here. So far, nothing yet. Keep it up! Cheers!
As a fish shop guy from 32 years ago I'm happy to pass on the crown . Iv been watching MD since the shed following George Farmer since PFK forum day's when he was deployed with the RAF . I am a massive fish geek back in the hobby because of RU-vid and guys like you . I have mixed feelings about the rise of Maidenhead aquatic on the hobby but in the new climate I believe it's been for the best . I use Dobbies Carlisle 64 mile round trip but worth it
My favourite shoaler. I currently have 12 in my main tank and love how they look in a heavily planted aquarium. I enjoy how they aren't constantly shoaling but seem to pick their peak times during the day for a good old synchronised swim around.
Another stellar video Matt! I’m am too guilty of overlooking these guys at my LFS but man are they lovely! Also I’m really enjoying how you overlay their natural habit, I always find myself opening another tab to view this whilst watching other RU-vidrs videos!
Good vid. Really like these fish as they seem more interesting than the usual tetra beginner fish in the way they behave. When I had six they seemed nervous and stuck together all the time. Now I have twelve, they just don't care, they are all over the aquarium having fun. Keep the vids coming.
Hi Matt, at maidenhead aquatics in Stratford yesterday and saw a type of male guppy & was wondering if, with your superior fish knowledge, you would be able to identify the type? they were pink and yellow and looked like a refresher or fruit salad sweetie. Thank you so much in advance. Ps we love your beard 🙂
