Thank you so much for the awesome analysis. In the first hand I like check calling my K4s even against the fish and these are the reasons: 1) Most fishes bet a safe turn card with AQ/AJ for the fear of flush so you don't lose value. Even when they rarely don't they never fold a river donk with those hands and I am also sure after turn goes x/x to have the best hand 100% of the times. 2) When you check raise flop it's true that you get value from the hands you said, and they also call turn, but not so sure they call a jam on the river. So you basically arrive on the river with one PSB where if you jam you only sometimes get called from worse hands but always lose from better ones that never fold. For those reasons I think check call it's the safer route. You always get 2 streets of value in one way or another and always avoid losing all your stack if beaten. Also allow the fish to bluff some missed flush draw (that they overbluff on the river when it misses. Of course I could be wrong, but I would like to know what you think about this thinking process. Thanks.

this is reasonable, but i'm less worried about value owning myself sometimes vs fish, and more worried about stacking them when they have a hand like Axss/combo draws that will call a HUGE flop xr and a HUGE turn overbet. they just have more of this stuff than 2 pair/sets and we get to win a MUCH bigger pot.

Great video Marc. I like your coaching style how you simplify things and break them down into different perspectives makes it much easier to take in the info. And thanks for sending me those three videos on Twitter or X. I played my first live tourney of the year at Commerce yesterday the $400 NL 6-Max event and I got 22nd place out of 488 players for $1,380. It was a tough table with a lot of aggressive pros on my left. But I just checked and let them bluff or bet weaker hands into me and check call all the way down and raise river with strong hands to get max value worked great. Looking forward to playing more live tourneys now.

So for once I actually disagree with one of the concepts. With the K4 hand vs the pro, when the OOP player check calls twice then raises on the river, I don’t think that’s super convincing. I wouldn’t think someone who has a boat plays it this way leading up to the river. What boats do we have here? It’s only 44, A7 of diamonds, or sometimes K7 of clubs. And even then I feel like those hands raise off on the turn. As played there’s so few boats that arrive here at the river I think it’s a call with a flush.
@guesswhosucks
@guesswhosucks 4 месяца назад
You named 3 boat combos. I get it, not a lot. Can you name the bluffs? Because the only one I see is the K4 suited. So 1:1. Now ask yourself, how often villains find an all in bluff on AK477 as the preflop caller into the PFR who tripled off multi-way? Not saying some pros won’t find calls here, but I think more fold than not because of how strong this line is. Perhaps you fall into the category that calls. Nothing is certain in poker.
@hungryhorsepoker
@hungryhorsepoker 4 месяца назад
kinda talked about this in the video, but just like there aren't many value combos, there aren't many natural bluffs either. overall, the most important point is asking "WHAT WOULD *I* DO VS THIS LINE?" when playing vs a pro, and i would most certainly fold a flush on the river to a xr jam. i just strongly strongly strongly believe most live pros are folding flushes here are a high high high frequency which makes the bluff a print. again, would NEVER recommend this line against a fish.

@@guesswhosucksidk in my games I’ve seen some guys spaz out on the river with a missed broadway draw. I’ve seen this play made with a weak ace that was holding on, and now thinks he’s chopping since the board paired and his kicker doesn’t play.

Since Fish arent always very excited to raise against large sizings… on A K 4 are we not value owning ourselves at least some percentage of the time? AK, AA, KK…? And do we really think fish will be opeing Q10 suited type hands UTG and not just limping? I think a lot of the combo draws they may have would be more likely limps than opens? Are we assuming they’ll just always be raising off the strong hands because they are scarred of the flush draw? I understand we should be getting money in with 2 pair, but if he does have a limping range, it seems like K4 is pretty thin? I know that sounds probably overtly cautious, and I suppose we block a lot of those hands, but… just asking…

Curious as to the K4s x/r all in bluff. At the same time, what value hands you have there? You are basically representing 44 (3 combo), A7s (1 combo,. diamonds), and K7s (2 combos). Debatable if K7s suited even calls the flop, although closing the action and vs a small sizing it's probably fine. I think from opponents perspective, they can't just call FH, and have to call A high flushes at some frequency here, since they won't have enough FH here in this node. And a lot of 44 will x/r flop or turn at some frequency too.

In the JJ spot against the fish on the river, I’ve been taking the large sizing but I’m getting too many hero folds. I’ve been shown top pair and watching it go into the muck. Which is great for my bluffs against these guys, but have to think more about what I bet for value.

I don't understand why you didn't mention the fish could have AK. Raise UTG ✅ CBet into 3 players on AKx flop ✅ Calls your big turn bet (maybe most fish raise here) ✅ I feel like at low stakes cash games AK is the villain's most likely holding here and hero is never ahead with two pair.

On the last hand, i agree that with air a pro would likely not bet, but what about a sizing of like 175? If he has hands like Ah 9s, would that not induce a bluff raise? The way we play our hand we kinda telegraph our hand and if they are any good theyd probably make a play knowing that? Also if they are marginal we also get a call. So essentially we lose value on made hands since the sizing is small but we make up for it significantly when they bluff air

On the K4 vs a pro, yes the river check raise is underbluffed, but only by Recs/fish. If the pro thinks your such a player he may fold, but if he knows you’re capable of bluffing, I think even he calls down a good bit. It’s too nitty to keep betting a pair and flush draw and just auto fold once you make your draw against a capable player. Also, if you rivered a boat, wouldn’t you want to lead out to keep his one pair from checking back , or to get value from his flushes?

Probably is a different pool, b cause I mainly play online NL 50-100, but on the last hand when we have JJ vs Reg, if they are decent, I wouldn't rule out completely Flushes on the turn when they check back. For that reason I wouldn't be so happy to x raise. Probably I would choose x call or very small bet to induce a raise with bluffs and thin value.
