@@danhix5005 that fisher cat has evolved also and he doesn’t give a rip about a domesticated dog or cat. My first comment was referencing the comment by the fella taking the video. “Are you ok little fella”.
@@FlukeTog honestly nature and life is beautiful but insane. I would only help by saving the fox completely and treating its wounds or finishing it off so it doesn’t suffer and the fisher will eat it. If I saved the fox though I’d better have something to offer the fisher also like a sandwich for its troubles haha
It was clearly wounded to the point where it had lost agility and was tripping while walking over a log. That fox would not survive much longer in the wild after that encounter. Most likely the fisher was waiting for the human to leave and then it came back and finished off the fox and had a good meal from it.
@@koreyb it was clearly fine you drama queen it literally chased the little rat thing away at the end and had some cuts to heads and you act like it’s organs are falling out or something 😂
@@stickshaker101 They were native to Wisconsin but were trapped out decades ago. Wisconsin brought some back and repopulated this area. I haven't seen any for a couple months but now I think about, I haven't seen any tree rats either. LOL.
Crazy that the fox was out matched and in a death grip. But even though it could probably outrun a Fisher (when not injured) it didn't make it's escape when the Fisher broke contact and instead attacked the Fisher and seemed to drive it off.
The fisher only broke off its attack because it was afraid of the human approaching it. Otherwise it would've easily killed that mortally wounded fox. It probably came back for the fox after the human left the area.
The fisher probably wasn't gonna survive with that injury. Hopefully the Fisher did come back for it, otherwise it would be a waste of life. Something losing it's life for nothing...would be terrible. Plus, all that energy the Fisher used to hunt and capture the fox...what a waste
@@mikeef747 They do. Just saying that Mustelids are probably some of the most ruthless hunters pound for pound out there. Only the shrew could be considered more fierce, fractions of an ounce for fractions of an ounce. ;)
They naturally know to flip a Porcupine over and dig into their stomach hitting the organs right away. even though fishers are savage, they are amazing creatures.
poor fox we've had a family of 4 foxes in our backyard for years watched the 3 little ones grow up to mom's size they've come right up to our back door just the other day they were relaxing in our front yard but we're moving soon and I'm gonna miss watching them we've never had any problem with them
That’s awesome! I’m glad y’all could live in the same area together with no problems and I feel you on that, I’m sure it is gonna be somewhat sad when u move. Who knows you might meet a new family of foxesss!!
My cat loves to play and brawl with the foxes in my area. Sometimes he comes home and I know he's been sleeping in their den because he smells like them.
@@bojangles2492 I have a hard time believing a Bobcat would regularly kill a Fischer. Predators usually go for easy prey so tbh that is hard to believe.
@@goldwolf0606 stalemate? Bro that fisher was dominating that fox, only reason the fox got away was bc of the dude, js the fisher prob tracked the fox and killed it after this video lol
@@nebulablitz6973 that’s why it ran up the tree like a punk? I don’t care who was dominating. I only care what the final result was. The fox didn’t get to clamp it’s jaws in the fishers Neck at the end either, by rule, it’s a stalemate.
@@goldwolf0606 you clearly don't understand how mustelids thrive. That Fisher 100% tracked that fox back down and finished the job. That's no stalemate that's a dead fox end of the story.
Saw a Fischer chase a doe once while I was sitting in a tree stand. Thing straight ran up a downed log along the trail and jumped on her back for a second. Been fascinated by them ever since. Strange to see a deer get chased by such a small animal.
@@tiredleader0621 I’m thinking, for a lunch date. The island deer are smaller, than the mainland ones. The deer were introduced in modern times, and are a nuisance species.
@@tiredleader0621 A big fisher is usually pretty fearless. They'll take on things five times their size full of confidence. Humans, deer, foxes and coyotes, they don't F- around.
Watched a fisher run up one pine and staight down another after a squirrel while sitting in my treestand during deer season in ri.the fisher ripped the squirrel apart and just left it behind.killed for fun.truly a savage animal
The noises the fox makes fill me with grief. It’s painful to listen too but I’m sure the fisher was very hungry. A kill like that would have been a boon for them in the colder months and who knows, maybe she was putting on weight to nurse her young or maybe he needed a kill to save himself from starvation. Carnivores of the same size tend to avoid each other so the fisher was probably desperate in some way.
I have a fox den right under my home, but I’ve seen what looks to be a red fox and a grey fox could there be both together? I also have had a fisher and the sounds in the night always get me up, outside and recording. Such interesting animals to me :)
Absolutely gray and red fox could pair up. I used to work on a fox farm and many colors can be mixed for varied results. Also, I've been bitten by many foxes. It hurts, bleeds and scars somewhat, but I'd guess a fisher bites harder. I hope to never find out.
@@Me-yq1fl perhaps, it's been quite a few years. We started our fur farm when I accidentally tapped a red fox in one of my raccoon traps I had set to thwart the decimation of our corn fields. My dad put the adult female fox in a cage and over the course of about 3 months, had her tamed to the point that he could reach in through the holes in the cage with his fingers and scratch her back. She would squeal with excitement every time he came near. He bought her a mate from the breeder up the street and she produced many litters.
interesting until you’re running outside not to record but to save 4 of your 6 chickens that somehow got throw out of the fenced in area into the main fenced in back yard, the other 2 just didn’t get gotten to yet, thank god they lived but he didn’t want one he wanted them all.
I've been watching Ehrman against rabbits. Mink against rats. And now this. Damn. We should count ourselves lucky that this third family of carnivores isn't any bigger.😳
Hyenas are closely related. Thats the big version. Very dangerous. Wolves and bears are also closely related, bears are like giant dogs in the same way foxes and jackals and coyote are mini wolves, or dogs or whatever.
@@dominicyelin Mustilidae is the order as opposed to feline or canine. I think hyena are actually closer to feline or perhaps ther own order but I can't remember. Now you've inspired me to search the mammalian carnivors to refresh where the bears and marine mammals come in.
@@jimbarth9859 bears are "closer" to dogs and hyenas are closer to mustelids, they're giant mustelids, trust me, although there are just giant otters anyway. So theres already giant mustelids.
This was super rare footage holy shite. I only wish he would have stayed still once he had a clear view. Moving around makes pekan fishers nervous and that low-key scared him off his opponent. That gray fox probably didn't make it if that fisher tracked it down after the man left. It had blood and would be easier to scent then.
“I think I’ll be ok, thanks for your concern. I suspect I’ve suffered a laceration to my right ear and temple area. I’ve deduced from my wobbly steps here, that I may have suffered brain damage but I won’t be sure for a few more hours or so. I need to get some distance between myself and that Fisher. I feel like one of the Gallo brothers about to get hit on orders of Carmine. Anyhow, much obliged for saving me at the last minute. Here’s some advice for you Lenny, that pal of yours, his name is George. Well, when he walks you down to the river, and he’s got you talking about tending rabbits and whatnot, just don’t turn your back to him, capisce? Arrivederci Big Lenny.”
Don DoDat Either you’re an idiot or you’re too young to know that what you’re saying is just stupidity lol.. A fisher is apart of the weasel family, minks, stoats, etc.. They literally turn around in their own skin & attack whatever is attacking them.. This fisher definitely would’ve killed this fox 😂 & actually was killing him . Mink will hunt things 10x it’s size and also dangerous animals like muskrats.. You might wanna rethink your assumption on these animals lol.
unfortunately this would not be over when the video ended. the fisher will easily track it. the foxes only real survival strategy here is outrunning it, which obviously isn’t an option for this unfortunate one. (fishers, like most mustilids, are incredibly agile and lightening fast but have short legs in relation to a long body and a healthy fox would easily outrun one). faint hope clause would be if a related fox came along.
That fox wanted smoke after that! I’m proud of him for standing the fisher off after that! Also you’re a brave man for getting that close to two animals that could ripped you to shreds!
The fisher wasn't in a face off fight notice it was avoiding the fox teeth by maneuvering . Once it was startled by the human the fox was able to potentially bite back. Predators avoid direct conflict as much as possible. The reason the fisher let go in the first place is because it saw the human as a potential predator trying to catch it.
There was a Fisher in my front yard last week. I know it was one because of the distinct sound they make. It was making the sound all the way into the distance. I have outdoor/indoor cats - I had better keep an eye on them because I heard the same animal a couple of weeks ago too.
@@donjohnson7899 i got me handful of bike honks . it scares them . and yup none fvcks with my animal even its a bear i'll retrieve it . i am not playing when it comes with my pets, ever.
The correct thing is to let nature take its course and not go too close to upset the process just to be able to take a video. The 'little fellla' is badly bitten and could end up having a long slow death from sepsis when it would have been better to have been finished off by the fisher and provided the meal for it it obviously needed.
Orrrr what he did was right. The body is absolutely amazing and can rejuvenate itself. A couple claw marks and a bite probably wouldn’t have been enough to kill the fox so I’m happy it survived and got away as well as stood down it’s opponent. Cat like animals like to get their prey in a vulnerable position like on its back to snap the neck.
There's no right or wrong in nature, animals don't care how their prey feels, they're satisfying instincts nothing more. And as humans we have no real business doing anything about it either way.
Looks like spring, for the fox to attack after he got away likely due to your presence. My guess is defending pups. I have seen foxes with this very injury and pondered Domestic dog ? Coyote? I didn’t think about a fisher and do have them in my area. Also a few pine martens but they are mostly further north.
The fisher was trying to avoid the foxes jaws long before the person startled it. The fisher not wanting to be attacked by what it perceived as a predator let go off the fox thus loss the advantage of avoiding the foxes teeth. Predators usually avoid direct conflict. If the fox ran immediately the fisher would have just jumped on it immediately because it could avoid the foxes jaws.
I know that fox just got his ass handed to him, but he looks neurologic, and the fact that he went back at the fisher before finally going on his way worries me that there's more going on here then just a nasty attack from a ruthless preditor
@@rogerparker9228 yes, that's exactly what they do their prey. They bite the back of the neck and sever the spinal chord. That fox was mortally wounded. The fisher probably came back later and finished it off.
Well the fastest way to get attacked is for the fox to turn its back while the predator is still close enough to jump on the fox back again. The fox having teeth as well could easily bite the fisher which is why the fisher ran once the human startled it. It is possible the fisher tracked the fox later but for the moment it wasn't trying to fight.
amorbid - What do you mean "ruthless attack by a predator"? You do know that the fox is also a predator, right?! What about the poor chickens this fox may come across?? Do you think that fox's are vegans? Give your head a shake!
I'd say that fox was trying to protect its nearby den of little ones. I can't think of another reason it wouldn't run away when the fisher was spooked and ran up the tree.
It was doing what most animals do...don't turn your back on the predator as to allow it to gain control again. a Marten is an ambush predator. The fox probably had no idea what attacked it in the first place. it was in shock and didnt want to turn its back to the marten. its possible that there was a den nearby...
@@springbonnie2300 I love cats but they're an invasive species and should never be let outside without a leash. The fisher ain't doing anything a cat wouldn't do.
Comforting to know that the PA Game Commission just released an undisclosed number of these viscous beasts. My chickens had enough to worry about without these killers.
The guy never told us what happened with the fox later. The bite to it did seem serious, but wild animals can survive what may seem serious damage as long as they have all four legs and two eyes to work with.
It could have been a mother fox on instinct defending her pups and just that drive to protect them but to succumb to injures what I would call a broken neck and everyone knows that's what they do Martin,Fischer,Weasel,Mink, etc. Jump on the back and severe the spinal cord and he was in the process of doing that until he let go.It could've been a male fox protecting territory....Whatever the reason ROUND-1 Goes to the Fisher looks like nerve damage to the fox.
"Attack" is a common strategy of defense for the weaker of of two animals fighting. That's why a squirrel or muskrat will often charge at a mink if it manages to get free of them for a moment, rather than trying to run away. This fox might have been fully aware that it couldn't outrun the fisher in its weakened state, but that charging right at it might thwart or delay the fisher's second attack.
I thought the fisher was the aggressor but the fox had his chance to get away and went back after the fisher. Strange. The fox does look beat up though.
That fox knew he was done. Running was not an option. His spinal column was nearly destroyed at the base of his skull. That's what they do. He'll die. The fisher does not give up. They are small wolverines. The scent from the blood will take the fisher right to this stiff almost dead fox.
Guy: Are you OK little fella? Fox: Is that you Mr. “This will go viral.” Well aside from having my ear chewed off by a rabid squirrel, my day is not going to bed.
Dana Novak : but it's OK for you to have a field with your chickens later !!! Right ?! , like you really give a rat about your chickens staying alive !!! HYPOCRITE !

Reuben Caldwell I think the Fisher was actually going to kill the fox, but notice the moment the cameraman took a step it suddenly bolted towards the tree
Honestly. It looks like he had gotten a hold of the fox’s pinnia. He’s all Wobbly and such becuase the blood in his ear is throwing off his balance. If he gave the fisher a good enough injury to make him change his mind on fox food he’ll be fine. His ear will heal and he’ll have a nasty scar. Unless infection takes him. Thats the biggest worry here imo
The only thing I see wrong here is the fact it took him so long to stop it. We will never know if the fox survived or not but it would have had a better chance if he stopped it right away instead of allowing the fisher to injury it further.
That fox believe it or not will probably live wild animals are extremely tuff and rugged the fact he could walk after that guy spoked the fisher and the fox got away with his life
That Fox was hurt very badly, and maybe died after. He could not even keep his balance toward the end, walking on those logs. Those Fishers are vicious fighters. Looks like he got bit very badly under the right ear. If there was no human to scare off the Fisher, that fox would have been dead.
Love all animals, but nature is brutal and these two are dangerous. Only a fool would intervene. This is documentary. Who knows what the observer is thinking, except for asking the fox if it's ok?
I would’ve screamed and scared them both away. Saddens me so bad to see animals fighting , crying, and almost getting killed. I get emotional over animals. Ore than humans. Lol
I moved into my new home in a forest on 38 acres and my neighbor told me about this Fisher I have never heard of this animal until this evening.... I found what appeared to be the guts of a rabbit because of a pinch of fur but not one bone strickly guts and the poor things heart
