Your hot take is not that far off base. One of my relatives from Alaska said that 20 degrees in Michigan (my home state) feels worse to him than -20 in Alaska. Because, in his words, "It's a wet cold, man! I just works its way into your bones." Idk about that personally, but that's what he said.
