A fun day on the water out of Homer Alaska.
Part 2 of this trip to the Kenai Peninsula.
The Charter was Bob's Trophy Charters.
The Captain was Captain Corey.
The First Mate was Tal.
The Vessel was the Sea Predator.
We were not even sure that I was going to make this trip to Alaska this time around. But luckily I made it up! Since I was late in the bookings I went on a different charter than my Dad and our Friends. We thought it might be a little weird for me to go off on a charter on my own but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
I was with a group of three from Michigan, and a group of two from Minnesota. Everyone on the boat was super cool people.
Watch and see how we fair in our fishing for big Halibut!
More to come... stay tuned for the more of this trip up to AK.

Fished out of homer a couple years ago and did well out near the Ushagat and Amatuli islands. Our biggest was only 115lbs. But wanted to also catch lingcod but was told the fish were not around or fishing for them was not good for awhile. Well next trip coming up and will need to find another place for some good Alaska fishing! Homer is such a beautiful place!
@creativelivingnorthwest
@creativelivingnorthwest Год назад
When we were using the gear to catch Rockfish, I hooked a Lingcod but he escaped as soon as I got him to the surface and let slack get in the line. We were also hooking some small Salmon. In the previous trip a month earlier some of the anglers hooked Redeye as well. The main target was Halibut of course but the waters have much more than just Halibut. It really was beautiful out there, the day started rainy but turned into a sunny day by the end. The islands we were between looked like they were Hawaiian with the sun on them.

The small ones are Rock Fish. We put our catch in freezer boxes that can be bought in any store in that area. They are Styrofoam with a cardboard outside. Our haul was under 50lbs so we didn't have to pay for freight bringing it on our flight back. There are other options to process and fly it back wherever you need to

There have been so many Halibut taken from the water out by Homer AK... there is a reason it's considered the Halibut Capitol of the World. We were hooking one at a time... there are vessels out there that do "Long Lining". They bring up Hundreds of Halibut at a time. They just keep coming!

Fished out of Homer in 97, got into a school of young ones, most were 25-35 lb range, and we just popping them off, looking for a larger, lucky catch. People wonder about shooting them also; well, that beast took a 45 to the head, and was still flopping; can you imagine one with energy to snap your legs/ankles? It's fun to watch others "JUMP" at the gun-fire.

Glad you like it. And the video guy was myself. Yeah, I do need some help. It is hard to be the videographer and to be in the action at the same time. Nice video, but I don't understand why you kill and keep these large halibut. Given the consrvation issues why keep any halibut over about 75lb? I have caught many many halibut in Icy strait and I release large fish. They are often females and ofen full of worms and the fillets are too big...............

@creativelivingnorthwest Год назад
It took both of them to lift the monsters in. The Captain explained to me that he dispatches the big Halibut with the pistol before they come onto the boat; that way they do not thrash around and damage the boat, equipment, or hurt the people on the boat. You want to come back to port alive and uninjured; this ensures that.
