I found that cutting up bluegills and putting a chunk of bluegill on a hook works best for big cats

With cut bluegill and kind of minnow. But the blue hills you was catching is the perfect bait for catfish I use bluegill and shell crackers for catfish all the time and I have caught 60lb plus on bluegill and shad

I'm a north Oklahoma chic that loves to fish the Cimarron River. I found that if you can put a worm- seems any worm- on your hook and make it bleed, you attract bigger cats (and gar). I haven't yet figured out how to make the worm bleed, it's just luck if you hit the right place on that dang worm. Oh, and I put the worm on the bottom with light weights. Love your videos!

I use to fish for big cats like that..... We made up a rig that had 2 #2 hooks facing back to back at the end of a 12 inch leader.... Cube up a couple of blue gill so each cube fits a hook..... Put your cubes in a mason jar and leave it out in the sun for 3 to 4 days...... When you get to where you want to fish, put your rig on the end of the line, without any weight on it and bait it with a bait cube on each hook..... This presents your bait as one big glob that will attract the bigger fish but no matter how a fish comes on the bait it will pick up a hook.... Then cast to where you think they are and let it settle to the bottom to sit and let the stink bait do it's job..... When the catfish moves of with your rig, set the hook and hang on..... My friend and I fished this rig for 1 week straight, every night and kept nothing under 2 lbs. or about 20 inches long.... At the end of the week our total was over 275 lbs. of catfish with 13 fish between 10 and 17-1/2 lbs. The rest were between 2 and 10 lbs. each all high clear water mountain channel cats..... The best eating catfish I'd ever tasted. The thing to remember about the bait is make it out of a fish that is in the pound with your catfish so it's a food that's natural to them and chunks that fit 1 chunk to 1 hook that just covers the barb of the hook.....

You'll see this alot around this time of year, water is at the right temp. The channels, flatheads, and blues catfish are sqawning right now. Thats why you seen all them channels in the shallow right now. Rough time trying to catch them, when they are sqawning but nice catch.

I live in maine where all we have are bullhead. I have found that they bite best at night. Sometime's I will use a garlic dip on my crawler and fish from the bottom. I also have and LED lantern that I use from a dock. It helps to draw the catfish out into the open. I have found that most catfish like the dark water and use smell to locate food.

I found out that fishing with live worms works a thousand times better if you hook the worm just once so that it looks natural in the water the way a worm should look if it just fell in. You cant be near sunfish obviously because they will easily clean you but if you are targeting bass or catfish they will inhale the whole thing.

Another cool thing is if you want to see if a pond never fished has any Cats throw out a cup of dry dog food. They will float long enough and you will start seeing circles in the water.

With those suspend catfish l would suggest using shrimp and fishing on the bottom. They will go to the shrimp because of their sense of smell.

Secret 7 dip bait. I have caught 100s of cats in all types of water and weather on that stuff. When I can see them towards the surface, I use a bobber and float the circle hook and bait. They smash it!

The lake I fish is populated with a lot of channel cats, a few bass, and a lot of small blue gills. One really good bait for channel cats in a lake of that size is take a big package of cheap hot dogs and cut them up into 2 inch pieces and marinade the dogs in a thick ziplock bag. Throw all of your dog pieces in the bag, a jar of minced garlic, a lot of garlic salt, douse it in white vinegar, add one pack of cherry koolaid mix. If the channel cats are feeding they will kill it. I've pulled out 15+ on a good day. I make a big batch and keep it in the refrigerator. I can usually get in four good trips on a good size batch. More garlic the better.

That's what my family used to Cach in Michigan on our cottage lake ...... if u want to go it had record bass and pike 😊😊😊😊

Fished a few creeks and drains at bastrop and fayette during bluegill spawns. Only fish artificial. When the gills slowed down just put a crappie nibble on the end of an 1/8 ounce jig and caught several cats 3-5 pounds. Always exciting when fishing ultra light rigs

You said if anyone had any advice about hooking those catfish to let you know. Well I'm from the south and from my experience you seemed to be a bit to impatient. Trying to throw it right in front of their face and expect them to nail it right away.ive found it effective to find some sort of small patter to their locations,and then drop your line and wait them out. Give them time to hunt the bait band then let the choose to strike. Trying to force and hurry a strike has always seemed to make them skidish. Especially since you can see them and they can see you. Also turkey liversbare a good try also. But hey, I would have been equally excited to catch those monster bluegill. Great video you guys. Beautiful pan fish! I had the yearly state record bluegill in PA way back in the 90s. Over 2lbs, SLOB of a gill. Those were all super nice fish though. That's what happens when ponds arent over fished

I' ve never seen a pond with this variety of fish and they are all this size . Those cats love small bream but the bream that are in that pond, you will need chicken liver. This looked like so much fun for you and your Dad. I would love to locate a pond like this.

To catch those catfish you need to get a big bait down deep. Catch a bluegill and chop it in half and throw it out with a light to medium weight. Then just hang on when it gets taken. A worm suspended 2 feet below a bobber is only holding mid-water above the fish and they are not going to swim up to have a look at such a tiny offering. Give them something that smells fresh with a bit of fresh blood on the bottom and they will take every bait you put in front of them.

I fish in a lake in South Carolina for catfish and chicken liver is usually your best bet for bait. Just let it sink to the bottom and ull know when you got one
