You do not need a $200 reel or $200 rod to go fishing. You can catch the same fish with a $20 reel and $20 rod. I would never tell somebody how to spend your own money but I could never see myself spending that much. I'll take a piece of string and a stick.

It's a basic Santee rig. Tri swivel with a weight on one end, the main line on another and about a 2 to 3 foot leader line with a peg float about 6 inches from the hook on the other.

@@northeastohiocatfish Can’t wait for that video! Since you live in the Medina area; do you frequent the Mansfield Lakes over West (Knox, Charles Mills, Pleasant)? Flathead seem to be too common around there.

Do you trailer your kayaks or whatnot? I’m getting close to buying one and am not sure if I want to go roof rack or trailer.

Trailer. I bought a 4x8 utility trailer from tractor supply for around 500. I made the floor out of treated 2x6's and installed water proof lights and wiring. Works great. My kayak is close to 100lbs so there was not really an option of throwing it up on the roof.
