Someone left a comment the other day asking about the bait, but the comment was removed. ??? I got nothing to hide, I use the same brown limu that the mullet guys use.
@bigisleroller would you share where I can find the brown limu? I looked online for the best bait and it said dough bait. Tried that and no luck at all. I'd like to learn all I can about fishing this side of the island. So far I've just been able to catch a few toau, one moi and one papio.
Spirit of Aloha..Giving your " Catch " away..I grew up in Hilo..Did some fishing in the Canal ( when " Kimiville " was still there..but, most of my fishing was on the " Hilo Breakwater " Spearfishing..and around the island..Puako, Milolii, Kawaihae...My Buddy use to go to Keauhou pier and watch some of the " Local's " come in..They would give him some fish that they caught...🥰🤟
How do you put the brown limu in the hook? Do you tie it to the hook? I didn't know there's giant Awa in that river, amazing. If I knew I'll be fishing in there when I was there 15 years ago. I caught small bangus (Awa)in the Philippines but never that big. Pound for pound the best fighting fish to catch. A lot of my friends in the mainland don't believe me.
You just dip your hook into the buck of limu, no tying. That is why when picking the limu you have to get the strong, good quality limu. I agree with you that the Awa is one of the best fighting fish, especially if they are jumpers. They are strong and are able to make long runs. I've seen a lot of people lose them when they bring them in from the first run and think they got the fish beat and the Awa takes off on their second run.
what size hook you use catch these? Do you do the double snell hooks? I fishing for palani in hilo bay alot but my mom loves awa iv never tried fishing that park are the bites slow?
