Click Here To Subscribe to the Catch Magazine RU-vid Channel ►goo.gl/9Z5dTu - Chinook Salmon - British Columbia Spring/Summer Tour took me up to the far reaches of British Columbia's Skeena River and the many tributaries of that amazing Canadian watershed. For Catch Magazine's 48th edition, T-Motion theater presents a video about the wild and adventurous chase, fly fishing for spring/summer Chinook salmon on the swing, via helicopters piloted by Dave Hiltenkamp of Summit Helicopters LTD out of Terrace British Columbia and jet sleds from the Skeena Spey Riverside Wilderness & Lodge also from Terrace British Columbia.
The anglers on camera include none other than the talented Adrienne Comeau, who guides for Skeena Spey Riverside Wilderness & Lodge and Steve McPhail, owner of Nass River Steelhead Company out of Terrace British Columbia. This tech-infused video includes some great insight on fly fishing for the big Chinook Salmon, who live in the world-renown waters of British Columbia. Thanks to the British Columbia Fishing Resort and Outfitter Association, Eddie Bauer, Ross Reels, Skeena Spey Riverside Wilderness & Lodge, Nass River Steelhead Company and Summit Helicopters LTD. Adrienne is a certified badass for landing a fish like that in that deep and fast of water.. anyone that wades big rivers knows one slip or loss of balance can get really scary real quick. Amazing. Just chopper in to one of the nicest untouched systems in the world to hammer those unreal fish on the fly.. almost get depressed watching this.. unbelievable stuff.

Beautiful country and beautiful fish. Please keep your king salmon fishery healthy. There are so few good king salmon fishery now. The Sacramento river had good runs of salmon in the 1970s, and 1980s when I started salmon fishing. Now the salmon are not a strong. 30lbs king salmon were a regular sized. Now you are lucky to catch a king salmon above 20lbs.

About 8 years ago I was invited to fish the Bella Coola for pinks. I had no fly gear for salmon, being until then a dedicated stream fisher for Rainbows. I was also a single handed rod guy. So I bought a decent 9 ft., 9 weight fly rod. I did have dreams of 'Big Salmon' trips so I paid the big bucks and bought a high end Ross Reel for 9/10 weight lines. I thought the drag system would stop a freight train. (... dramatic foreshadowing...) We did well on the Pinks, fishing right against the shore, usually with one foot on dry land. After a while I got bored of such tactics and heaved my line well out into the current, just to show myself I still remembered how. A fish hit which was surprising. What was a Pink doing out there? It took off downstream in a genuine reel screaming run as my drag was only set for 'Pink size'. Before I could tighten the drag I was into the backing. The fish didn't seem to notice so I tightened some more. Still it was taking backing. I finally turned the drag up all the way and the fish still was making it's way back to the ocean. I was moving down the bank as fast as I could, but it was a loosing battle. I have never felt so heavy a fish, even on the ocean. When the last few wraps of backing were showing I grabbed the reel and just held on, hoping for a miracle. It was not to be. "PING!!" The 'Pink leader' and the fish parted company. (By the way, I did have as much backing as the spool would allow.) So when Adrienne said, "You're not going to be able to put the brakes on these fish", I know what she's talking about. It must have been a Chinook and I can only wonder about how big it was.

@bazlur-Vancouver 6 лет назад
Most rivers and lakes here are open for anybody, but you have to buy licence and conservation stamps(stamp for salmon 15$ and steelhead 25$+around 40$ licence for local residence, more for foreigners or other provinces of Canada. Fishing is regulated by fishery dept. Wild steelhead only catch and release, Chinook(spring) and salmon have daily quota. same are allowed to take , some don't. Very often rivers fishing is closed, if the fishes are not enough for breeding for future. all hooks are barbless. It is not like Russia or other soviet former republics or some countries in Eastern europe, China etc where people are destructive to anything living or swimming in the water.
