I’ve been hitting up 40th street Newps. Hit the left side of the jetty. Nice current that flows your bait out not in. Had some great yellowfin croaker there.
Yesir!! It was nice to see some older folks out there appreciating what the socal beaches have to offer. Truth is I could have probably learned alot of techniques from them as well. As fisherman we all enjoy the same past time, if a couple tips can help someone else enjoy it even more then that’s our duty.
Hey friend, I'm a kayak fisherman and love to surf fish. I use Peen spinfisher vii , slammer4 and also you might want to check out this reel. Tsunami saltx 4000. Fully sealed for saltwater fishing. I never worry about sand while using my Tsunami saltx4000. Just an awesome reel.
Hi there, I just started learning how to fish. I've been going to Balboa and Newport Pier, but want to try surf fishing now. Do you have any recommendations on where I can legally fish? Of course, I'll have a license and all!
Yes any of the beaches around here you can legally fish. There are some areas from Laguna to Dana Point that are marine protected areas, but any of the beaches from Newport to Long Beach are totally legal. Good luck!
It’s a Kasting Zephyr. It’s a great real and super cheap on Amazon. I wouldn’t recommend it for surf fishing though cause the sand totally ruined it. Something that’s a bit pricier would definitely be worth it. At $40 bucks though, this is a great budget reel for freshwater though. Just don’t set it in the sand!
This was actually a corbina which is a much rarer catch then a corker around here. I actually hear they are good eating as well. Looking back I kinda wish I would have tasted it for… research purposes, but it was just catch and release that day!
Rookie mistake putting your reel in the sand bro. Nice rod I just picked up the same one for surf fishing 8'6 shimano scimitar paired with 3000 shimano Sedona hoping to go out soon for some halibut or whatever bites honestly
Yeah I got to excited haha. The 8’6” has been perfect for me in the surf. There are definitely some fish out there right now and not a lot of people on the beach!
